I was just wondering if you’d be able to mention the difference(s) between “farm bred,” and captive bred, and your opinion on both. The most fascinating thing about this particular reptile is it has the means to become warm blooded during mating season. Which is a scientific breakthrough in the herping industry, and can also tell us a bit more about dinosaurs.
Maybe the dinosaurs with feathers (thought to have generally lived in the colder regions) were warm blooded and the smaller dinosaurs nearer the equator were cold blooded.
I got a Tegu at a reptile convention last year. I was really surprised at how intelligent she is: they can tell whether or not you are trying to harm her not not, and don’t get crazily defensive. Sometimes when I startle her when she is asleep, she will try to tail whip me but then stops as soon she recognizes me. And she never bites! She does need a huge enclosure and lots of heating of course…
He even closed his eyes when you were petting him. So cool. Too bad I live in a small city condo lol (A cage like that would take up half my living room)
I just wanted to say, we have a tegu as our class pet (high school). At the beginning of each school year, I show the kiddos this video to help them warm up to "Rufus". He loves interacting with the kids and getting to roam around the classroom daily. I love watching all of your videos, but this is one we especially enjoy.
this is so sweet! i bet your students are incredibly happy to have you as a teacher, i'm sure having an animal in the classroom brings a lot of enjoyment to their learning!
I'll bet that you're an awesome teacher and every kids favorite. What a great experience it must be for your students to care for and interact with Rufus. So many people are scared of reptiles , Rufus sounds like a good species ambassador. I had a great dog named Rufus. He was the best boy.
I've been keeping reptiles for the better part of 15 years and I have to say you have the best reptile channel on youtube! Great job man!! I love the honesty, especially regarding the larger lizards! Keep up the great work!
Yep, this is the one. I finally have a dream lizard. Now to research and save up the money to give a Tegu the live and care it deserves (probably further in the future than closer, but I'm willing to take the time). Thanks for this video. I'm so in love with the Argentine Tegu now.
Cross hybridize it with a Komodo Dragon, a Thorny Devil Lizard, a Horned lizard, a Flying Dragon lizard & a Giant Flying Fox bat.....ENTER THE DRAGON ! Attach a flame thrower to it's body it can operate with it's Satan Claws & it will appear to be a fire breathing dragon. They've also unearthed Nephilim Giants & cross hybridized them with Wolves, Lions, Tigers, Scorpions & of course a Ram to create Beastly hybrids....The Monster energy drink slogan "Unleash the Beast" is not a joke but first they will repeal the 2nd Amendment which is why they are staging so many FAKE shootings. They might even stage another fake presidential assassination. Can you imagine if they stage an assassination of a beloved sports idol on national TV ? Who is the most popular sports idol on TV right now ? He makes the crowd roar when he makes birdies & eagles. He allegedly won the US Open years ago with 2 stress fractures & a torn ACL which is BS to inflate his legendary status. Now the current version of Tiger is really warming up to the crowds putting himself out there in the line of fire. Recently Tiger's Caddie had to get a heckler removed from the golf course but for some reason there's no picture of the heckler except one photo of Tiger's caddie trying to pay him to leave. The heckler's face is blotted out ? I would think this guys face would be plastered in the news so he would easily be spotted if he follows Tiger again ? Whatever happens it's all scripted by the NWO powers that be !
Omg! Your daughter walking Guss Guss was the cutes thing I have ever seen! Also, I feel like you need a compilation video of how many times a reptiles stole the show with it's random and funny behavior. Make a death roll count for Guss Guss too lol.
I'm always amazed how lizards are becoming tame and also are attached to their owners. And it's super cute how they close their eyes when they are petted. Adorable! ♥️
When you were petting him on the face and kinda holding his face like an hamburger and him just closing his eyes that was so adorable to the point where I actually awed XD
I think tegu is a really beutiful reptile, too. I'm Korean, and I really want to visit America some day to see a variety of reptile breathers! (Maybe I am not good at English, so I may say wrong things.....)
I have had a tegu for about 6 years now. Some of the problems you mentioned aren't much of a problem for me and might not be. She loves being held and sometimes walks right up to us wanting to get picked up. Tegus have very distinct and unique personalities and not all will be like this, but if you want to train them to be held, definitely get a strong grip on them and hold at both sets of legs and prepare to get scratched by the tegu trying to climb around on you. As for the enclosure, this may be unique to us, but the people we got her from actually rescued her from an abusive life. She was held in too small of a tank to where she could hardly move and her tail grew bent because of it. This has led to trauma for her so if she if put in an enclosure at all, she will hurt herself trying to get out. We solved this by letting her roam around like our cats, and they get along very well. We do have to clean up her poop all around the house, but you would need to anyway in an enclosure. When it comes to relationships with other pets, she never attacks our cats, we just recently got a kitten and the kitten loves her. The kitten will play with her, making playful swipes, and yes it is playful the scratches would be much different if it wasn't, and my tegu just sits there not caring, occasionally pushing her gently with her tail if the kitten tries to bite it. Tegus are amazing, definitely think before you get one, but if you know what you're doing, getting one will be one of the best decisions of your life.
I have the deep and vital need to cuddle a Tegu. I can’t really have one but I wish I could volunteer at a rescue or something so I could at least interact with them.
i want a lizard but i live with my grandma because she can't live alone and she refuses to let me turn the spare room in our house into a lizard's room.
Hey Clint, not sure if you are still reading comments under videos from over 5 years ago, but I wanted to let you know that today I saw two Argentine Tegus in a national park in Argentina. I immediately recognized them and was in awe because I watched your videos about the (so many) years ago! They are truly impressive. Thanks for your knowledge!
i have a bearded dragon with mbd he didn't get any calcium from his old keeper because they probably didn't do enough research but now when i have him he's getting better, he's probavly not gonna be like a normal beardie ever but that dosn't mean I'm not gonna treat him like one. his name is nemo and loves interaction and hes just awesome
I am so happy to have found your videos! I acquired an Argentine tegu yesterday. She had been roaming free in a neighborhood for well over a month. I live in my Ohio, so she wouldn’t have done well come winter. I’m slowly getting her enclosure together, and I am binge watching your videos! Since she’d been living wild I am a bit frightened of her biting me. But hoping she and I can build a nice relationship!
It's interesting to see the different personalities of various Tegus across RUclips. Ed and Emily's sweet Ally seems to love being handled. She's such a puppy lizard! Gus Gus is adorable!
Clint has such a baby face in this video omg ! i discovered him more recently so im going back through older videos now. Love how the channel has grown for him over the years
We watched this video and did extensive research on B&W Argentine Tegus and we finally got our own. Gus Gus seems like an angel compared to ours, but our tegu is going through puberty right now. They are incredible creatures. We got ours as a baby and it’s so interesting to see how quickly they grow!
We just got our Tegu today thanks to your video! We've been watching for months and researching and we finally did it! Thanks Clint for all your content and information!!
Since Emily and Ed got Ally over at Snake Discovery I have fallen head over heels in love with these guys. This video of your's Clint just solidified this has become my dream lizard. I don't know if I could ever have it, especially since I never had a pet lizard at all and I'd like to start with something easier like a beardy first. But if I could, this is definitely the one for me. He is just so sweet!
When I get my own house with space I plan on getting a tegu. I usually don't like lizards and have a lot of experience with snakes, but I will come over to the other side for a tegu. Even though their enclosure is gigantic, the idea of having it is so exciting to admire.
This lovely presentation is how I convinced my sweetheart, who was of the "let's START with a really big reptile!!!" school, that we should look at something a bit more beginner-sized. Not because Gus-Gus isn't 100% adorable, but because we need to be realistic about the size, strength and needs of the animal and whether we can handle them. Realistically, that's a no right now, but gosh Tegus are lovely. That said, the look of dawning horror on my sweetie's face when he learned that Tegus can GET UP AND RUN ON THEIR HIND LEGS was absolutely. Freaking. Priceless.
I have a 2 year old right now named Sephiroth. He is going through the "terrible twos" as they say. Thats ok though, I try and do whatevers right by him. Had him since he was a baby, and its been an interesting journey. If you are interested in getting one, be prepared. Make sure on top of your research that you have a vet in the area who specializes in reptiles, and preferably a retailer who can provide pinky mice and other specialized foods. Future housing must be thought out of course.
You're amazing bud. You're the only RUclips I've found that actually gives out good information about the tegus. I'm getting a red tegu soon and this video really helped.
Whenever i see a new reptile in my local pet food center, I always come to this channel to check if I could reasonably keep it. They get all sorts of great reptiles from local breeders, and I want them all, but I only live in an apartment so knowing what I'm getting into is important! Thank you, Clint!!
Could you make a video going over reptiles you think would be great for people with disabilities? Like weight limits or hand tremors or hand numbness or just being a bit slower than others. I love tegus but I have a lot of health issues that make me unlikely to be able to care for them so I'll just love them from afar.
Crimson Rose You could look into some of the look at no handle species and see if it's feasible for you. Look into the many different "Day Geckos" they are really pretty to look at and fun to watch but shouldn't be handled.
Charlotte Olson well I need them to be handleable because if I clean and the species moves fast I might not be able to safely transfer them while cleaning or catch them if they do get loose.
Crimson Rose that’s where a bioactive enclosure would come in handy! the setup would be a little pricey, but it would require virtually no maintenance by you, so you’d never have to handle them. this is because you’d have a “clean up crew” of springtails, isopods, earthworms, etc that clean the substrate for you
@@crimsonrose4648 eastern box turtles. You can keep two or three together if you want as they are not aggressive, they aren't to fast or heavy and are very hardy. They will need a uvb basking light and are small enough for a tortoise table if you need them elevated but I prefer to dedicate a room or corner of a room with low corral you can step over but they can't climb out. They love strawberrys and blueberrys, greens, flowers, and you could probably buy a commercial box turtle food or tortoise chow to supplement their fresh salads otherwise you'll want to put some extra thought into the diet and maybe add some insects. They are beautiful and if you buy captive breed babies they will live the rest of your life so you can get very attached. You can find breeders online. Just make sure you are committed permanently and have a safe stable home before getting any
Just got mine about a week and a half ago from a guy that rescues them in the wild. Been interacting with him for a hour at a time and after the third time he finally let me pet him back with no aggressive behavior...baby steps with this guy but already falling in love with him:) Great videos thank you very much.

Yes! I'd love to learn more about the Saharan Uromastyx. I visit the pet store (30 minutes away) nearly every week just to check up on the one they have
Saw some tegus at a pet store here in orange park Florida today, I was immediately entranced by their awesomeness and beauty. Will definitely be researching as much as I can!!!
This is insane, my cousins have a family of Tegus living under their summer house in the countryside (we live in Argentina) and we never knew what these were or if they were dangerous for all the little kids in our family, so this was such a cool and informative find!

I own an exotic animal sanctuary and I have the first tegu on record to have a tail amputation! 4 hours of surgery and 3 months of intense recovery later my girl is doing amazing!
I rewatched your video:) Clint, I raise fancy poultry. Rare poultry. It is so ironic to see the similarities between reptiles and birds:) My parrots and my poultry, turkey, ducks, geese, etc. are sooo much like reptiles:) Birds can see ultraviolet light,as well,as I am sure your know, they are wild when they see you for the first time in outdoor light. I got the idea to keep my tegu outdoors as I do natural settings for everyone. Humidity will be an issue of course,as it is dry here. Escape is something I am good at preventing.I build my own and have 3 barriers for each enclosure. I just think the space I could give my tegu outdoors would be so much more plentiful than indoors. Again thanks so much. I am a senior lady and have wanted a tegu for 12 years. I retired so now I think it is time:)
Its simple, if you want something huge, you get this cute boi, if you want something smaller but no too much you get a blue tongue skink, anything below dat a beardie or a gecko, and if you want a snake i recommend a ball python
There are some lizards that make for objectively shitty pets, but in general, the best lizard to own is the one you gain the most from owning. Just do plenty of research before and during owning any reptile; the research never stops while being a herp owner.
HACKER COY no, but I've owned several reptiles in the past, and have done my fair share of research/discussions with others in the online community in my spare time.
I'm watching through your videos in upload order, since I've been enjoying a lot of the newer stuff so much. I love how while you obviously love and care for every animal you've shown so far on this show...Gus-Gus is your *boi*. He is your big best friend you talk to and call by name.
Awww! Lizard on a leash with a toddler!! Sweet! Great information in these videos. And I love seeing Gus Gus enjoy being patted by you too. Obviously he has had a great life raised by you.
Clint, you are my girlfriend and I's favorite channel on all of RUclips. You give the absolute best breakdowns of keeping reptiles and other animals. We have 6 snakes (from carpets, to boas, to Burmese) and 10 tarantulas. Before we take on any new adventures we ALWAYS hear what you have to say first. Thank you!!
Now I'm even more excited. Thank you for the amazing video. I'm getting a tegu. We are building a 16ft by 4,5 ft by 4,5ft enclosure die a tegu. This video helped me a little to be prepared what it will be like.

How's it going almost a year later?
the footage with your daughter was so pure omg. gus gus is such a good boy omg. definitely want a tegu when I'm ready to have one.
He even closed his eyes when you were petting him. So cool. Too bad I live in a small city condo lol (A cage like that would take up half my living room)
Charlotte Olson lizards closing their eyes doesn’t mean they like being touched!
HaarHuhn In some cases that's trtue but this lizard was leaning into it AND half closing his eyes.
lmao
HaarHuhn What's so funny?
why tyrone I'm saying I don't have space for a cage like that
I just wanted to say, we have a tegu as our class pet (high school).
"Roaches" ... "All of that stuff is available at your local grocery store"
You been going to some weird grocery stores man. ^_^
Just search under the shelf or outside at the dumper of the grocery store👍
Walmart dumpsters hold thousands of them
These replies are legendary
You just have to reach behind the groceries. Best part is that they let you have all of your groceries for free!
"Is that good stuff, Gusserton?" My heart! He loves that tegu SO much!
I love your intro, please never change it! Every time you go "Oh hi there!" I can't help but grin and go "HI THERE!" back!
That made my day!
Clint it would be awesome if you do some "tours" of your reptiles' homes.
Jared Guerra Still waiting😔
Hell yes!

I've been keeping reptiles for the better part of 15 years and I have to say you have the best reptile channel on youtube! Great job man!! I love the honesty, especially regarding the larger lizards! Keep up the great work!
So basically Gus-Gus is a Cat covered in scales, that's so cute

Oh wow hi I watch your videos I hope pissy is doing well
i live in uruguay. a couple of those show up every summer in my garden "asking" for food
@The Sun Witch a nosotros nos venían a pedir asado jajaja

What's the point of even buying a cat?
Gus gus is the best boy,, please give him a smooch from me
That dog is beautiful
No its a cat
I thought that it was a bird
I thought it was a buffalo!
No it’s a Fish
I actually burst out laughing when he tried eating the banana and it got caught on the roof of his mouth like he was eating a PB&J.
I think tegu is a really beutiful reptile, too. I'm Korean, and I really want to visit America some day to see a variety of reptile breathers!

Clint: "Gus Gus only does what he wants to do"
I have had a tegu for about 6 years now. Tegus are amazing, definitely think before you get one, but if you know what you're doing, getting one will be one of the best decisions of your life.
cant you like potty train them
@@therealtony2009I potty trained my bearded dragon so it’s probably possible.
I potty trained my iguana too@@therealtony2009
I have the deep and vital need to cuddle a Tegu. I can’t really have one but I wish I could volunteer at a rescue or something so I could at least interact with them.
I want a Tegu so badly! However, I don't have the space for one right now. Oh well... I'll still be envious of yours! LOL!
So Very Scattered Me me too. And all the local vets barely knew how to handle a bearded dragon so I don't want to push it.
i want a lizard but i live with my grandma because she can't live alone and she refuses to let me turn the spare room in our house into a lizard's room.
i keep showing her this videos to see if i can convince her at least into a bearded dragon
"You can walk him as long as you dont have a particular destination in mind" -love it.
Someone you dont know you’re awesome! ♥️
I love hearing about your OCDness about tail dropping
It's interesting to see the different personalities of various Tegus across RUclips. Ed and Emily's sweet Ally seems to love being handled. She's such a puppy lizard! Gus Gus is adorable!
Clint has such a baby face in this video omg ! i discovered him more recently so im going back through older videos now. Love how the channel has grown for him over the years
The relationship between your Tegu and you is so heartwarming!!
Hey Clint, may i suggest that you do a tour on all of your enclosures etc.? it could probably help a ton for some to know how it should look like.
We watched this video and did extensive research on B&W Argentine Tegus and we finally got our own. Gus Gus seems like an angel compared to ours, but our tegu is going through puberty right now. They are incredible creatures. We got ours as a baby and it’s so interesting to see how quickly they grow!
How's your Tegu doing?
Freaking. Priceless.
What did you get in the end if I may ask?
@@benlubbers4943 We may never know...
I love the name
Why did you name him Sephiroth? Not judging, just curious
@@wolf10alpha68 It's a Final Fantasy antagonist that is well-loved.
Is that a tegu or a child? Terrible 2's might be different.
Cloud isn't his puppet then, you are
You're amazing bud. You're the only RUclips I've found that actually gives out good information about the tegus. I'm getting a red tegu soon and this video really helped.
God Clint you massive nerd
“You’re a good lizard.”
Love to see it, you’re such a kind hearted and genuine man. Keep lovin’ them scaley boys
Just make sure you are committed permanently and have a safe stable home before getting any
That actually sounds great it is something I didn't know I wanted until now

Never thought about the uv light thing. Makes sense. That roll he does cracks me up. I could see the working if a predator got him. He's beautiful.
This is insane, my cousins have a family of Tegus living under their summer house in the countryside (we live in Argentina) and we never knew what these were or if they were dangerous for all the little kids in our family, so this was such a cool and informative find!

I love tegus for their dog-like personalities, and their just incredibly chill nature.
Hi Clint, would you ever do a tour of your reptile enclosures? I would love to see them!
We may. It is just hard to get them to our studio, and we don't have good lighting to film them.
He calls every lizard that is the best to own so
I'm just like WICH ONES THE BEST TO OWN
Its simple, if you want something huge, you get this cute boi, if you want something smaller but no too much you get a blue tongue skink, anything below dat a beardie or a gecko, and if you want a snake i recommend a ball python
DINOboy 20007 All of them 😉
THEY'RE GOOD LIZARDS, BRENT
