    I was a dental assistant so I’ve worked on my dogs since they were babies. I love rubbing there teeth and gums with a dry wash cloth in between scaling them. It keeps the plaque from building up. My dogs are so use to having there teeth messed with they lay down on there sides and go to sleep. After I’m done I swab the gums with Chlorhexidine 0.12%. I also like to start at the bottom of the tooth then from the gums downward. Your video is great. I wish more people would take care of their pets teeth. I even do my cats. I feed RAW and give them frozen raw chicken necks. 😊

    the problem with doing this is that youre not polishing after and scaling causes micro abrasions which polishing fixes so youre actually slowly weakening the teeth. One of those isn’t even a scaler. I know professional cleanings are expensive which is why brushing is important but i definitely would not recommend doing this.

    I find it hard to believe that doing this gently, once or twice a year, is going to do more harm than good. We've brushed our 19mo old pup's teeth at least a few times a week, often nearly every day, and he still has tartar building up. He's such a good boy that he just let me scrape three "practice" teeth with no fuss!

      Goat horns! I have a red heeler cattle dog and a kelpie (australian dogs), and gnawing goat horns really keeps the plaque down. I bought bulk from a wholesaler to save, as they are too expensive here buying 1 at a time. They are the best 'chew toy' for dogs. They last a very long time, vs say a pigs ear which will go in flash. and the dogs love them and keeps them busy. See if you can find them, get a box shipped in for a fraction of normal price.

      @@fredfinks I also have a Kelpie cattle mix, but goat horns and antlers are actually not good for him! Lol. It's good for some dogs but not for all. He doesn't know how to actually eat the bones properly. Well- that's the thing. He tries to literally EAT it! He bites down as hard as he can until he breaks a bit off and then swallows a chunk. If a dog knows how to just passively gnaw on the bones they can be good. I give my dog raw beef and lamb brisket bones to clean his teeth! 😊 They're much safer for him

    Thank you so much for this video. I am a very hands on dog lover from cleaning anal glands (yuk) to tooth brushing. My dogs get their teeth brushed every night when I brush my teeth. They are miniature dachshunds so I use a child’s toothbrush, blue for Banjo and pink for Mila and enzymatic dog toothpaste. Apparently I am getting everything clean but the canines, my female has tartar built up just on the upper canines so was looking into a scaling device. Thank you so much for this video, I am going to look for those descalers to try. Brushing their teeth is so much less expensive than the cost and danger of putting them under anesthesia and having the vet do it to the tune of over$300 apiece.

    I have a rattie and to do anything close up with her, I have to give her a half Benadryl/Diphenhydramine (25mg) and wait 1/2 hour.
    Then I have to straddle her between my legs and give meds, nails, brush her teeth, etc.
    You really can’t get leverage with the dog sitting in front of u on the couch.
    Also, give eye drops by opening her eyes from behind.
    Everything is quick. No problems.
    You’re welcome!!🤣🤣🤣

    My pug is almost 9 and he’s put quite a bit of weight on over the past 2 years or so. His breath fuckin honks it’s actually vile dunno why it’s like that. We’ve took him the vets about 4-5 times over it an each time they’ve said his teeth are healthy even tho his breath is smelly as fuck. I’ve tried everything. The smell went away when he was on antibiotics and the time after that we tried him on them again but the smell was still there. He went back to the vets and they told us his teeth are bad (even tho every other time we’ve went within like 4 months they’ve said he’s fine) they’ve told us they can scale his teeth but he’ll have to lose weight because if they do it on him at his current weight he will die.

    • @FurryFriendsZone
      @FurryFriendsZone  Год назад

      Hi there thanks for watching. Yikes poor thing. Small dogs definitely struggle more with the teeth. Try a probiotic sometimes that helps because it aids in gut health which is where the smell could be originating from. He may need some extractions but it’s odd that one visit they are fine and the next they aren’t.
      I hope you get it sorted out!❤️🐶❤️

    My dog used to let me but now at 10 years old she’s not having it anymore I guess she realized she doesn’t like it? My vet examines her and she has no infections or cavities. I wish they made a scaler device that goes on your finger. The only tool she does allow is one that you use for ceramics and clay it is curved and not sharp like the teeth cleaning tools. It’s flat with a curve design also dip it in coconut oil as you work

    The gums should never bleed. Have you tried just brushing his teeth everyday with enzymatic toothpaste?? It breaks down plaque and tartar, stopping it from starting in the first place. It is also less dangerous and damaging to the teeth.
