Hey dear Rhett, you just missed the two best vintage stores in rue de Douai: Vintage guitars owned by Hertz Mairon (world renowned expert for serious guitars and top player), and his very friendly neighbours Ben & Fred (so many cool vintage electric guitars and acoustic old martins and gibsons). Next time maybe. All the best, and sorry for the subway strikes.
My wife and I visited Paris back in 2013 and we stumbled across these shops when we went to visit Montmartre & Sacre Coeur. We took the metro to the Abbesses station which put us out right next to The Moulin Rouge with is just a block north of "Rue de Douai".
I was in Paris during the spring of 2000 for 2 weeks and played a few night clubs while I was there. During the day I went to a lot of different restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then to the art museums and music stores. It was a great time. Another thing about Paris is you can't have a bad meal there. The food is the best I've ever experienced. Not only is the taste and quality sensational, but the amount of food you get for the money it cost is better than in the states.
This “series” is so cool. I often go to a performance and see someone playing an incredible instrument and wonder about the story of how it got into their hands.
Woodstore is the best vintage guitar store in Rue Douai IMHO, Julien is a great guy and he takes time for everybody, talking, let you play, never hurries you, no difference if you're a broken student curious about vintage stuff or an old bum that knows exactly what he's looking for. Truly a unique place.
A while back I asked in a Q&A what was your favorite guitar you didn't own, you said the exact guitar you played here, a '61 335. It looks like it lived up to the expectations you had for it!

I used to go around these streets years ago. I got my American standard Telecaster from one of the shops, I also had hepcats pickups installed. Lovely guitar bit I traded it regrettably. I also got a Get'm Get'm black and white check guitar strap and a vox amplig AC30 which still works, that is over 12 years ago, and I still have the guitar strap which still looks like new. Those guitars that you played sounded amazing, I really loved the strat tone. You play very well, I think I will learn some of those licks.

What a great show. I especially enjoyed the bike thing it all created a wonderful anticipation to seeing the guitars. You should do a regular show on window shopping for treasures I am sure we all would look forward to it. Victory should hire you I've not heard a better demo of how rich the tone is. I noticed your lovely lady was all for getting the Gibson. My wife is my bass player with ye old Jazz and P. bass and has just added an old Music Man to her collection. She did her homework and if Leo was directly involved with the design she 'has' to have one.Mind you she is a savvy shopper the instruments are near new condition and she bought the Jazz and the P. for less then $500.00 USD. These all American made instruments too so the prices are a steal. I have to wait my turn. lol
Also, something you should point out, is that the majority of musical instruments shops, including guitar shops are located in the "Pigalle" district of Paris. "Pigalle" is also known as being the place where the ladies selling their charms used to be, including strip tease clubs, hostess bars and the like. It is still a little bit like this today, but not as much as when I was a kid. Last but not least, James Trussart, le French luthier known is Los Angeles used to have his shop right there too. But as a pioneer of his craft, he decided to move to the USA early, because the market was there. I remember entering his shop back then, Rue Duperré. I did not think much of purchasing a guitar with a rusty metal top at the time... lol...
Just saw the NAMM Mythos thing...your idea for the Lark is genius. I think other pedal makers will pick up on the idea and also do an Amp-in-a-Box like you did!

Good luck Jeremy!
Man, if I could actually play the solo to “Kid Charlemagne”, I’d play it on an ES-335 too!
i live in Paris glad to see that you enjoy the spot where you can find your dream guitar !!!
You missed a shop called Vintage Instruments. Same street. The owner is nuts but he sells super collectable guitars and basses.
Stereo- Jeremy I use a mk3 mesa boogie & mk1 - (option use my boss dd7 to go thru the 2 outputs) OR my radial bigshot aby..sounds amazing..good luck on your journey - (FUNKANAUTS)
Digging that "Kid Charlemagne" solo!
I love these videos where you go shopping
I did not think much of purchasing a guitar with a rusty metal top at the time... lol...
I saw an RD in the window of the second shop that looked pretty cool, too.
Just saw the NAMM Mythos thing...your idea for the Lark is genius. I think other pedal makers will pick up on the idea and also do an Amp-in-a-Box like you did!
You visited l’ampli à lampes, great place well known too 👌
I bought a blackface Deluxe in that very same shop (the first one) , it's now my live go-to amp. Very nice friendly personnel.
You should have gone to Guitare Village, in Domont. Place would've blown your mind.
These type of videos are AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the little Kid Charlemagne licks you snuck in there. Some day I'll get to play a 335 and do the same.
