Well not actually a mechanic he destroyed the cvc joints at the end of the axle, did you hear the popping noises when he pulled out and turned right.welded rebar straight to the transmission bolts, removed his clutch and his ability to change or even engage gears by cutting the clutch disc out.
But hey it was a cool project,he had some fun and maybe it will last a few weeks.
      I admire his ingenuity.
I think it would have been way cheaper to buy am engine.
But I still give him 10 out of 10 for being a great dad.

@@howlinwulfWhy would you need a clutch on an electric motor? I do not even need a clutch to shift once I am moving with a gas engine. Most modern cars have syncro mesh gears. Would take a bit of learning to use the throttle or put sensors on the gear shift that when you go to shift it decreases power to the motor momentarily.

Honestly super impressed by this accomplishment. I had this idea a while back (replace engine but keep gearbox) but haven't got the skills or time yet to take on such a project. This may look slow but for a 2.2kw ~3hp motor this is honestly decent. It's less power than a moped (but more tourque of course)
And it still moves the car well. And your skill with a welder to get that motor lined up so well.... honestly I hope I can achieve this skill one day!
You have renewed my ambition to explore the field of electric motors. (Regular car mechanic here)
The only negative is it sounds like this gearbox could use some fresh oil (or maybe its worn out) a smooth gearbox will maximise the potential from this motor since it isn't powerful.
But I look forward to seeing more of this kind of content

Amazing job, young man! The conversion you did reminds me that you don't have to start with perfection. Just start! You'll figure it out as you go along! The brake booster was a masterful touch. Add a simple bank of batteries, and off you go. Add more batteries as you can afford it, remembering that to get more power, wire them in series. To get more range, wire them in parallel. For highway speeds, you need at least 144 volts, but if you want a fast car, then you'll need more volts. Initially, the battery pack could be taken out to charge, but soon you'd have to charge insitu. That means an AC to DC inverter. Then you'll need a DC to DC inverter to charge the 12 volt battery from your main battery pack for lights, wipers etc. Then an electric powersteering conversion and eventually an electric a/c system, maybe from a home unit. I'm excited!

I have always wondered why dont car manufacturers use gearbox such as CVT or even a manual one like this one. Well done

    • @ulrichraymond8372
      @ulrichraymond8372 2 года назад +4

Gears are used to multiply the torque or speed at a required rpm. Electric motors can give you the same torque at any rpm so using a gear box is unnecessary.

A few electric cars have 2 gears or so. But the reason is they just don't need them.

48v with an xt-60 providing all that power, amazing. with at least a 72 volt setup you could bring out the potential of that motor. i hope you see you upgrade this in the future. i've been wanting to make something similar, but it would not be legal to drive where i live.

it is amazing to see this because 48v 2200w motor and 1300kg car with 45kmph speed wow
    you amazed me ......
from today toward my past days i thought 2.2kw motor can only 5-10kmph speed in 1000kg car
but brother dont mind i think i few it will burn because you have given too much load on motor. how i am saying this because motor is making noise in slow speed
    another i want to see
use two bldc 2.2kw motor in V-type ....

The controller is giving a maximum of 50A on the motor, 48v X 50A = 2400W it's safe on the motor even on continuous loading. Also the motor is a in-runner it's cool faster.
