I've been a metal-head for the better part of 4 decades now, and I've never really thought of my love for Tool as being associated with my love for metal generally. Tool is entirely its own sub-genre. This is one of my favorite Tool songs. The composition of harmony and melody in that bridge section are just phenomenal.
Tool's music can change your life & perspective on reality (positively) if you allow it to. Will be curious to see your future reactions, especially to songs like Right In Two.
The reason why some people are saying this may not be one of Tools. best songs is because it's not technically a Tool song. This song was written by Maynard before tool was formed. If I recall correctly, this would have been during his Green Jello days. There's an old grainy video of him singing this song in what looks like a silver vinyl onesie with high heels
I think for me this is one of the most memorable tool songs because of the lyric "I know the pieces fit" Something about that line horrifies and comforts me simultaneously.
8:45 - You're right in the broad sense but the emphasis on communication makes it social - primarily as they mentioned 'lovers' (a schism in a relationship) but it could be friendships, family relationships, etc. as well where one or both people are putting the other on silent treatment.
The Pot. I am overdosing on that song. I heard it 3 weeks ago and it has played non-stop since. LOL Good review, I would say the songs about a relationship with a woman or another person. Again, I love that the song starts at the very beginning, no talking or bull crap. Bravo to you.
Nice analysis most of what Maynard *lead singer* writes is left for interpretation just like the polyrhythms in their music. I love that you are digging into and appreciating legendary music. Don't pigeonhole yourself though into a single genre there's plenty of greatness to find. Such as Richard Cheese covering People = shit a Slipknot song. It's like nothing you have ever heard before. The original song is great too but i don't know how you feel about the louder yelling style although there is alot of great stuff to find there too!
I hit the subscribe!! Great reaction. I gotta ask what’s your favorite Metallica album? What’s your least favorite and do you have a favorite song by them? My favorite Metallica album is Justus, my least is Saint Anger. My favorite song of theirs is Bleeding Me off of their Load album. It’s my favorite because it speaks on addiction and I can relate
You now have listened a song from almost every Tool album. Next.. Pneuma from the latest. Preferably the Danny Carey drum cam? :) And after that I would suggest that you go back to the beginning and go through the albums in order so that you can hear the evolution of this great band. :)
@@metalteen. It will be a journey. And other than Pneuma drum cam, and if you choose to re-check "Sober", the live version from 1993 Reading festiva, you should stick to the audio and perhaps have the lyrics up. I suggested the drum cam because I take from your guitars that you play and wanted you to check the amazing drumming of Danny Carey so that you can appreciate more what happens with him during Tool songs. :) And also because there really is not that many GOOD live recordings. Not official ones at least.
This definitely aligns with my first reaction to Schism. It's a different vibe. Not as in your face or straightforward in the flow. I dig the determination in the music and vocals. They want to make it work, but still not quite there. Narratively, the pieces fit after listening to Parabol/a & Lateralus. It grew on me.
Are you familiar with Rage Against the Machine? I think you might like them based on your tshirts lol Their song “Know Your Enemy” features Maynard from Tool, check it out if you haven’t heard it.
It sounds like you know older matal, and probably more European bands since you are listening to US bands on this chanel. Have you heard Unlessh the Archers ? Canadian power metal. Try Awakening (the studio video is great)
Check out the live studio performance of Towers by the band Dvne. Progressive metal band from Scotland with a climate change bent. I double dog dare you. Nice reaction. Spiral out homie.
It's pronounced "SKIZ-um" 😅. If you keep listening, their songs keep getting better the more you hear them. You'll keep finding bits and pieces that you never noticed the first 50+ times you heard the song, and some songs will take on completely new meanings for you as you get older. Spiral out 🤘

It cracks me up how people listen to tool for the first time and it’s nowhere near their best song and they think it’s the best song they’ve heard
The best tool song is the last one you heard lol.
@@edrueter9 So true haha
Schism is not near my favourite song by TOOL, but imo it's the best one to listen as your first one

They do be doing those bass intros quite nicely tho! Check out their song Floods…. The bass intro on that one is 🔥
Back on Tool yes❤ every song is a journey and live is other worldly❤

If you like Tool you gotta listen to Parabola at some point.
Rediscover communication
