Make sure you get the ‘Full Appearance’ video, because Milton Berle got thousands of complaints about the ‘vulgarity’ & ‘obscenity’ of Elvis’ performance, & in future TV appearances, Elvis was often filmed from the waist up, so as not to offend viewers. Sometimes people get so famous that we take them for granted, please dont make that mistake with Elvis. He dif rock, pop, Gospel, country and often mixed these. Also his Christmas album is fire !!

This song was written to honor two men from the 1960's - Martin Luther King, Jr,. and Bobby Kennedy. King was a black man advocating for civil rights for blacks, and Bobby Kennedy was a politician, who also was strong on civil rights...he was also the brother of the assassinated President, John F. Kennedy. Both Martin and Bobby were also assassinated just months apart from each other. Their deaths hit Elvis hard, and he wanted to do a tribute to them, The writer of the song, Earl Brown, pulled some of the elements of the song out of Martin's famous 1963 speech, "I Have A Dream'

Love to see young people react to Elvis👑 hope you do more. He hit the world like an atom bomb in the 50s and was the big bang of modern music as we know it today! I was born in 72 and didn't exactly grow up on him myself, but I always liked him. The '22 Elvis movie was what really got me into the Elvis rabbit hole and I've learned so much since then. I highly recommend to start from the beginning and watch some documentaries to learn where he came from and what made him so special. One of the best about his early life I've watched recently here on RUclips is "Elvis Presley - I don't sound like nobody". I also recommend "Elvis and the black community-that ecco will never die" to see how controversial he was when he started out.

You are cute. I watched Elvis for the first time when I was 12 in 1956 on TV. He was shockingly wonderful. parents, teachers and preachers wanted him banded because he was shaking his body. He was born in poverty in 1935 in a black neighborhood, and clawed his way to the top but it wasn't easy. He was greatly influenced by black gospel and was an advocate for black singers. You see in the 50's it was segregated and white stations would not play black music. He changed that, he brought in a different culture and type of music, the teenagers had a new God.. He was beautiful and exciting to us teens. He loved his fans and invited them into his home, bought them gifts, and never turned down a autograph. He was a generous humanitarian and had a 23 year career. John Lennon said "before Elvis there was nothing". He has influenced so many people. Rober Plant of Zepplin fame said, "we were over in England, and here's this beautiful rock star and we were like knocking our heads against a wall, saying how can we top him". They tried to talk Elvis out of doing this song as the finale of his TV special. They wanted him to do a Christmas song since it was the season. He demanded to perform this song. It was shortly after MLK assassination. Elvis was deeply hurt by that and the current turmoil over civil rights. He dedicated this song to MLK, Bobby Kennedy (who had also recently been assassinated) and John F Kennedy who had been assassinated years before. The song became a huge hit. He should've had a writing credit for this song because the writer said himself that he used Elvis' words for it. Check the history of this song and where he performed it in 1968. Elvis made history, he WAS the birth of the modern era. He was inducted into 5 halls of fame. Won 3 grammies for his gospel songs. His voice cannot be autotuned. He was a stunning live performer. hey there Metal Teen, i am glad you decided to listen to Elvis. its been a long long time since he was the coolest hottest thing for teenagers. Elvis is an Icon he changed music and fashion in the 50 s and gave kids then a srnse of freedom. i wish young people today would realise how big of an influence on society Elvis was and still is. (new sub) SOME BACKGROUND INFO for this song: As per the producer-director of the '68 Comeback Special Steve Binder, Elvis, Binder & a group of others were together in the studio wrapping up the taping for the special when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, & the others sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings. Elvis was disturbed about many things that were going on in the world -- there had been other assassinations a few yrs. prior to King & Kennedy, & the Vietnam war. Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions w-Elvis. The song was composed post haste as the show’s taping was winding down. The song was not meant to be a literal dedication to any one person or persons but is notable for its similarities King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony due to what was going on in the world. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. Thank you for this.
