Mary Clayton's voice break is iconic. You can just hear Mick go "woo" afterwards. She was 20 years old and was called out of bed to sing. She showed up with curlers. She apologized for the "break" and wanted to do it over. They said "No", they loved it, as do all who hear it.

I have shared with you my favorite bands that wove the thread between heavy blues rock and heavy metal. the bands that forged heavy blues rock into metal towards the end of the 70s, with divine inspiration from Hendrix's guitar.

There is no denying that the Beatles made their mark on music and were hugely influential. But they were at least somewhat overrated. They ripped off the rooftop idea from Jefferson Airplane who did it at their NYC hotel and were arrested. In 1968. The Beatles Sgt Pepper album is considered by many the best of all time. I beg to differ. There is much good stuff on it (I was your age when it was released) but JA produced a similar "concept" album in 1967, After Bathing at Baxters, that was vastly superior musically and in terms of complexity. Listen to it in its entirety, a snapshot of the hippie era. It is good that you are digging into older music as your generation was stuck with sterile digitized emo "music". You have a lot of ground to cover but you're all over the map, from Elvis to Megadeth. That's not a criticism. We must preserve what is worth preserving. It is noble work and you do it nobly. A video of JA's rooftop gig. Poor quality but hey, it's ancient history. ruclips.net/video/ZLWhRDkJSWE/видео.html

Your overuse the word good was too much like a pimply face teen fawning over his first kiss. Please (for your own benefit and ours) develop a more extensive vocabulary besides a one word adjective that something is good. How is it good? What exactly makes it good? What are you comparing it too that this particular item has even reached the category of good. And the word WOW. What exactly about that particular reaction rises to invoke the level of being WOW? Each person has there own definition what makes them go WOW. Be unique in the sense you tell us how WOW it is by comparing it to another point of reference so we can understand what is WOW about it and how and why you consider it to be WOW. Until you can differentiate between descriptors and articulate their specific properties I cannot in all good conscience give you a like. If it were remotely possible your sophomoric commentary on a song of this magnitude that has stood the test of time fortunately cannot diminish or be degraded by your limp noodle commentary skills and has the iconic strength to remain in the musical halls of fame without you uttering a SINGLE word. It needs not one thing from you to elevate its status. It would be far better for you to just to simply sit there in utter silence, totally agape in your facial expressions, randomly uttering grunts of approval as you nod your or shake your head occasionally, letting your audience enjoy the music rather than than a Neanderthal performance of a commentary. You would have better served yourself and the Stones if you simply had said "Here is a song I really enjoy that I heard recently and I hope you like it too.

If you're open to a suggestion, your reactions may gain more traction with some observations about the lyrics, at least with a song rhis powerful. I know with great music like in this one, it's easy to overlook but theyre a part of its greatness.

there's a lot of really good hendrix songs but THE best are his "woodstock" performance from the album which fuses "the star spangled banner" with "purple haze" - also "peace in mississippi" is a kick-ass instrumental off his first album released posthumously - and lastly ALL of side 3 from "electric ladyland" is a psychedelic masterpiece. do a search for "electric ladyland nude cover" to see this albums original cover. its really cool. thanks for the video.

That is probably the most famous voice crack in recorded music history. In the last take, Merry Clayton decided to really blow it out, and her voice cracked in the process. Mick and Keith loved it, so they left it in.

There is a great joke "quote"; 'Jimmy Page wrote "Stairway to Heaven" when he as 21, I could play it at age 16!' Until you realise what 'great guitar playing ' was the standard in 1969, you have no idea how incredible Hendrix was. Also, Hendrix rarely overdubbed his vocals - he had no idea how good a singer he was.

Mark Twain, real name Samuel Clemens, was a humorist, author, essayist, the "father of American literature." He took his name from a nautical term indicating a shallow depth. He was born during an appearance of Halley's Comet and he died when it reappeared 76 years later in 1910. As he predicted. You aren't an American so I assume you read. You really should read his stuff, it is deceptively deep and brilliant. Maybe start with Tom Sawyer, that will give you some context for the Rush song. His great grandnephew, Ray Clemens, was one of my father's students. A first-rate javelin thrower. Ray, not my father. Twain on anxiety: "I have experienced many terrible things during my life most of which never happened." Start reading now. Go go go..

A live album called "In The West" is excellent with a version of his tune "Little Wing". The greatness of Jimi is immeasurable and the number of memorable songs seems endless to me. An easier to find version of "Little Wing" is on his second album "Axis Bold As Love" which is a joy to listen to end to end, as most are with him.

Hendrix plays a traditional right-handed stratocaster, but left-handed. So the guitar is upside down and restrung. Check out live performances. He had a short career because he died at the age of 27 I believe.

Keep going with Jimi Hendrix, he's legendary! 'Are You Experienced', 'Purple Haze', 'Voodoo Child' etc. He only made 3 studio albums in his short life, and a few live ones, but he created a large number of incredible songs. He wrote the songs (this song just happens to be a cover, though), wrote the lyrics & music & sings, he should get credit for his prolific song writing, too. I really appreciate that young people like yourself are learning about this great music.

  • @jenniferfoster1692

Remember that he was the first to play the guitar like this. Literally the day after he went onstage in London with Eric Clapton, with many great musicians watching, all of them changed the way they looked at & played guitar. He affected guitar music from that day in 1966. So if younger people hear his music & it sounds like a lot of music that came after, remember he was the one who created that sound & musicians are still trying to sound like Jimi to this day.

The story I read was that Hendrix was at a party in London, when someone put on the new Bob Dylan album, and Jimi was transfixed. He grapped the record, called up his band, went to the studio and recorded All along the Watchtower. In a Swedish tv recording of a live concert in Stockholm shortly thereafter it's single release, Jethro Tull (if I recall correctly), with the Jimi Hendrix Experience opening. Jimi has to turn down shouted requests for Watchtower, explaining it was too new for them to play live yet~

You should react to Machine Gun, live, from his Band of Gypsys album. The most intense antiwar song ever performed (Jimi was a US Army veteran). He does impossible things on guitar. My first concert ever, Jimi and the Experience, 1968. Amps stacked to the ceiling, loud loud loud. And brilliant

There are so many great Stones' song, too many to list. But a few to mention are two earlier songs such as "Ruby Tuesday", "Paint It Black" and "Satisfaction" and later ones such as "Wild Horses", "Dead Flower" and "Moonlight Mile" and "Angie" are a few more outstanding songs.
