Alex is playing an ES-355 Gibson. This guitar IMO is the fan favorite. Delivers the classic Rush sound in so many tracks. Closer To The Heart was one of the few songs not written by the band. And it was radio friendly because of its short duration, but Rush is known for its long epic tracks that you need to experience.
Great song, and yes one of their shorter ones. This song is from the album that got me into Rush, back in 1977. Rush was in trouble in 1975, because their third album -- "Caress of Steel" -- did not sell well. Then they had a come-back with their 1976 album called "2112", which is a Rock Opera/concept album classic. This one did sell well, and they saved their career. Then 1977 came around and they released "A Farewell to Kings", which had Closer to the Heart on it. Closer to the Heart was a legitimate hit on the Rock Radio charts (especially in England and Canada). So, the Record Label execs must have been glad they kept Rush under contract because they started to blow up, by the end of the 70's and into the 80s. You should check out their song called "Anthem", from their first live album called "All the World's a Stage". Anthem is very Prog-Metal and kicks majorass!
If you'd like to hear more of Alex's best solos, here are a few suggestions: Limelight, Exit Stage Left Freewill, Exit Stage Left Natural Science, Toronto Molson Amphitheatre, 1997 The Analog Kid, Clockwork Angels Tour 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
I know you have reacted to Working Man, but if you want to see something crazy react to Working Man Live In Cleveland. Your face will melt. Alex Lifeson is one of the greatest guitarists to ever live.
Lots mite Rush try driven ,half the world, big money, lock and key, turn the page, Animate, cut to the chase, roll the bones, dreamline, bravado, mystic rythems, vital signs, subdivisions, analog kid, digital man, the weapon, Xanadu live 81,
One of their shorter songs that is one of my favourites. If you want to a longer song I recommend La Villa Strangiato official music video Alex's playing will blow you away! Cheers 🇨🇦
Actually, a lot of Rush songs are quite long; this one is somewhat unusually short. :) Interesting that you mention Led Zeppelin, because in their early days Rush was compared to that band (and they had been an influence). Rush did eventually find their own sound, but they had many different musical styles throughout their career. For a future Rush reaction, I suggest checking out the live version of 'Secret Touch' from the Snakes & Arrows tour. Rush is amazing live!
Nice! Actually, RUSH has a fair amount of quite long songs as well. You might try "Natural Science" LIVE (Live at the Molson Amphitheater 1997), as a nice sample! ☮

Rush is a lifelong journey. Not only is the music incredible, the lyrics on a lot of songs makes you think.

Been my favorite Rush song since the mid 1970s. My only complaint is it's too short!
