    Don't be too hard on yourself about the kitchen. It's a huge job and you've had so many delays outside your control (as is always the way with any job, especially one where you are managing or doing the entire thing yourself). Like with your daughter's bedroom insulation, you have transformed rooms in your home. You are doing a wonderful thing for your family with this new kitchen space

    Haven’t watched for a few months but dropped in today and saw that you’ve also discovered Bedec Barn Paint just like I recently have. It’s the best stuff I’ve used and it goes on anything. I’ve used it on brick garage, metal work, Woden gates and fences. So I don’t have to buy different stuff for each and finally everything can be the same colour; not all matt blacks are alike. Only exterior paint I’ll ever use now.

    Sadolin superdec is a lot better than their vanishes. It’s latex based moves with the wood very good coverage and can be wiped or jet washed clean, my fathers log cabin still looks new 10yrs in and only just given it a re coat. I’ve just painted my log cabin with it too and it’s stretched and moved with the wood as it’s gone through one seasons cycle 👍

      I think I might have heard about that paint. I think you can paint plastic guttering with that paint (I might be wrong) but a painter friend told me it was great paint to use but the only problem you have with it is it dries very quickly...would I be correct?

      I didn’t notice it drying too fast, I was spraying it on to be fair, but from some of the hand applied areas it was touch dry in about 2hrs but wasn’t going off on the brush quick,even on a hot sunny day when I was putting it on.

      I used this to spray a brand new shed with the Wagner sprayer. Was dead easy to use and great coverage and opacity, time will tell how it holds up. I was going to use Superdec but the recoat time is something like 24hrs so you need a couple of days guaranteed without rain which isn't common in Britain!

      I agree. It is expensive but it lasts really well. We painted the shutters on our house in France and after 10 years I just gave them a light rub down and re oat. They still looked good and probably would have lasted a few years longer. Our two neighbours shutters, one with new shutters and the other with old ones like ours, both painted by professionals, looked terrible after a couple of years and are now ( after about 5-6 years) peeling badly. Ours still look like new.
      Only problem I had was trying to sprat it with HVLP sprayer. I had to thin it quite a lot and coverage was not good. Might be fine with airless sprayer but I haven't tried that. Maybe next time.

    Looks to be a great product Charlie. I’d have been tempted to go UPVC as I too hate painting.
    My experience of using wood filler outside like you used isn’t great Charlie, over time it shrinks and lets the moisture in again 😢. My builder recommended Dry Flex, available in different hardening speeds (30 mins, 4 hours, 16). It’s a 2 part tube, bit like epoxy resin and sets absolutely rock hard. Bit expensive but definitely worth it for outdoor wood repairs

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  5 месяцев назад +1

      The issue you've got with that system is the lack of insulation beneath (I'm guessing, given it's age). You ideally need 75-100mm otherwise the slab will be very difficult to heat, particularly with a heat pump. Maybe just check what low profile systems are available and how they insulated but they will work in a different way given the lack of thermal massing for the slab.
