@Magical Chemical Daddy - What does that even mean? "It sounds like (I am) a creature so (I) have a God regardless fuc"?! Okay, prove I have a God or that there even is one.
@Magical Chemical Daddy I AM A CREATURE BUT I WORSHIP THE SQUIRREL GOD WHICH IS ALSO A CREATURE. God is a squirrel God change my mind? Fuc, God is so much cuter with a fluffy tail. Is a fluffy tail NOT more perfect than no tail? Squirrels were created in the image of God, and their perfect, fluffy, succulent tail will attest. Have ye no faith in that which is cute? Do you really look down at your dilapidated and hairy self and think "yep, that's what God looks like"? I do not and I hope not, I hope to rest my eyes on something more pleasing for the rest of eternity. The creatures in Avatar are more beautiful for sure, but Squirrels rein supreme.
Calvin, give the creature crap a rest, retire the script. You just come off so damn ignorant. I’ve told you for months now, your troll game is sad, tired and weak AF. You really want Chris Massey and Doc Powers to get inducted into the Troll Hall of Fame before you?
@Magical Chemical Daddy - "Proof turd"?! I have to agree with @AC, you suck at trolling. What does "proof turd" even mean? I am a turd because I expect proof before I believe in something? That seems logical to me. I really do feel sorry for you child. I can't imagine being half as dumb as you are. I hope one day you get help for that.

When I was a believer I thought I was going to heaven and I believed in heaven and hell. One of the biggest teachings in every church I attended was beware of having a false salvation. I forgot the verse but it talks about there being many people in hell that cried lord lord. It left you questioning your salvation so you would constantly pray for forgiveness because you were in fear that you fooled yourself and you are going to hell. Getting out of religion I saw it is a huge mind fuck. I don't fear being dead now but I do have fears of suffering bad enough to wish I was dead.
Fear is the biggest tool used for indoctrination, hence hell, hence the first thing they go to when you tell them you don't believe is Pascal wager "what if you're wrong". Fear short cirquits logic and is imbedded into the teachings so whenever you are thinking of any religious subject your logic does not interfere, so you don't logically examine what it is that you are believing in. You just accept it.

What I've come to realize after many years of watching AE is that "silence is golden" has another meaning: silence means you got through. For example, Jonathan's silence at 15:12 - that's the sound (or not) of a person *wondering whether or not they are right.*
Jonathan from Michigan needs to be told about how Pharaohs were actual gods, and many of their pyramids from thousands of years before the times of Jesus ... are still standing.
Actually about the death bed of a loved one subject, I never officially came out to my grandad, but he found some things of mine (a copy of American atheist magazine in my car). What he said to me was that he wished I'd just been honest from the start. That cut me. I thought I was protecting him by not telling him. So, Seth, no, I'd stay genuine and open in that situation. I'd have an honest conversation with them about where I stood. I feel like they'd appreciate that more than a hollow gesture.
When I was in Seminary, one of the students opened his room for veneration of holy relics that he had collected. He had a piece of the original cross (although the white wood and rounded ends looked more like a pop cycle stick), the rubber shower shoes Jesus wore when he walked on the water, the pencil Moses used to write the Pentateuch, and the apple core from the Garden of Eden. AMAZING!!!!
I met this guy, an orthodox christian priest at the time, who was friends with at the time my room mate. One day they walked in with a old half rotten piece of wood, a bag of 2" metal crosses in chains with a hollow in the back, and a candle. They proceeded to tear splinters from the wood and with molten wax fix the splinters in the hollow of the crosses. Guess what they were going to claim the splinter of wood came from. I heard the that priest is some big shot in the orthodox church now, he must have made a nice bit of $$ for the church with his scams.
@@xelasomar4614 It is said that if you collected all the pieces of the "original cross" you could build St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome and have enough left over to build the Pope a nice summer home on the sea.
I hope Mary is doing okay. Pancreatic cancer is brutal. I lost my dad to it in November, a few months after this show. Watching him wither away and lose his strength was heartbreaking. The beginning of civilization did NOT first happen in the Levant either, Matt. It took place somewhere in subsaharan Africa, then worked its way northward.
I think the current prevailing theory is that civilization began in multiple parts of the world around roughly the same time, usually around large river systems like the Nile, Tigris and Euphrates, the Indus Valley, the Yellow River and the Mesoamerican region. There was no single Cradle of Civilization, in that case.

@@rs72098 And yet it didn't.
It sounds like Jonathan from Michigan hasn't thought about much of ANYTHING.
I can't see Jonathan so we can't be sure that he really exists. Could have been his dog calling the show, I don't know because I didn't see it but I think I'll choose to believe on faith for the purposes of conserving my faith in humanity.

I've said before that if I raised my son to believe that fairies were real, and convinced him that sneezes were a reaction to (and evidence for) pixie dust from these invisible fae, every time he or someone around him sneezed it would further cement his belief in the supernatural entities that we have no real reason to think exist.
Religions convincing believers that these very real, very natural feelings have a supernatural source is directly analogous to the sneeze/fairy example.

The beginning of civilization did NOT first happen in the Levant either, Matt. It took place somewhere in subsaharan Africa, then worked its way northward.
