When I joined the Marines in 1971 an old Man that I had delivered papers to as a boy took his flag down from his pole and expertly folded it and gave it to me. He said you can give it back when you get home. I carried it everywhere when I could and put it in a safe hands when I could not. I returned to my home town with the flag still folded. I went to give it back to the dear old Man and he had passed away. I am 70 now and I still have it. My flag and all others are precious to me.

he is telling the story of America. He is telling as to WHY we should show our flag respect. To see the positivity of it, no showing the negativity. Why we should not 'take a knee' or be disrespectful. the flag many talked about hanging in a museum is 'Old Glory'. It flew during the war of 1812 and when the Star Spangled Banner was written. Also each color has a meaning about honor, blood, and hope. If you like this song try his song 'Gods Gonna cut you down', look at all those donating time.

Your introduction to this video, before you played the, “RAGGED OLD FLAG” video clip, and your sage discussion afterward, was the most important and significant reaction I have ever seen! You are TRULY, wise, beyond your years! You renew my hopes and dreams for the future generations. I'm feeling my own mortality at age 73, and I was beginning to fear that my hopes for the future, would die with me.
--->Some people could live for a million years, and never understand what you just explained in LESS than 15 minutes. Actually, you nailed it in the first 8 minutes, before you played the Johnny Cash video clip! But, your post-video discussion, really BROKE IT DOWN, for anyone who didn't understand. It was EPIC!
---> If only the World could see through your eyes, well, let's just say, we would FIND THE WAY to trust and love people, instead of turning, FIRST, to THE WAYS OF WAR.
---> We have a lot of work ahead of us, but, If you have any doubts, please know that, the World is a better place, because of YOU.

That video and others I have watched about Johnny Cash has really gotten me to like you a lot, how your heart is, and how you are a really good man. Since then I've changed my views a lot. There's nothing like out of control liberals to make a man conservative.
Check out Johnny's cover of Sting's I Hung My Head. Not related to this song in anyway, but a great story told in the way only Johnny could tell it.

This is America...everything we are and will be forever. We are one under this flag and we should never forget it. Our flag is symbolic to who we are, what we represent, and our one unified identity. We are America. We should never forget it. We should work together to preserve it - for ourselves and one another. Much love. ❤

You got it right on what Johnnie Cash was saying. It is not about a particular flag in a small town but about the USA and what the Stars and Strips stand for throughout our history. So you got it right.

No, you're correct. The ragged flag of the title is a metaphor for America and the ideals it was founded on. It's gone through a lot, it's taken a lot of beatings, it's "sometimes hung a little low", but it's kept flying through it all.

Great choice BP. I have loved this presentation by Johnny for so many years. He speaks the truth how so many of us older folks feel towards our FLAG and out country. And BP please keep TALKING F those peeps that say you talk to much speak your mind please, it is what our founding fathers put on that piece of paper that represents the rights we all are entitled to.

Johnny was a left-leaning patriot. He knew the system and the country wasn't perfect - moreover, he knew it would never be. But, he loved that this country seeks to be perfect. That we try. That we'll fight for, and die for, our freedom, and other folks' freedom. That we have the courage to fix our own problems and put in the work. Johnny loved THAT America.

If you're interested in Johnny's collaborations check out "The Highwayman" done with Willy Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings, four of country music's legends. They formed the band The Highwaymen. Thank you for reviving some of the most historic American music ever made.

I'll do whatever it takes to give my kids and grandkids a chance in the American experiment. Hope they appreciate and uphold the American ideals. If we are to go into strife. Let it come in my time. This "song", really just spoken word poetry, does hit most of us hard I think. Not because we are Patriots, but because we do love the people around us, who are Americans, new or old. We see our parents or grandparents who have served, or who have come here because other places are worse, and we do love our people, even if we don't love the things which have been done, or which are still being done in our names. The people are America, not the politicians, so it is hard not to feel this about your home.
