I have a Stampede 4vxl converted from a brushed Stampede 4. It still has ultra shocks with aluminum shock caps. After hundreds of $$ in upgrades, it's one of my favorites in my collection.
Steel wheel hexes do prevent the plastic hex of the wheel from stripping. In the first week of owning my slash a wheel hex stripped because it came with the plastic ones, but switching to metal on the others have kept them pristine.
Neighbors be like: Honey, our neighbor is talking to his truck bed again... now hes kicking boxes LOL. Great video as always. Hope they make a new 79 Bronco High Trail and Bandit BL-2S next.
I don't know if you remember the EMaxx back around 03' or 04'? It had a 2 speed gearbox. You could change it as you drove. The selector was on the transmitter. If you put it in high and stabbed it, it would just instantly flip over. It ran 2 battery packs. So we ran through batteries 2 in the Emaxx and 1 in my Bandit and 1 in my wife's Tamiya van. Lol

To be fair, Traxxas is not the only one that has done that either (upgrade a vehicle and lower the price, or keep it the same).
Nice to have options to fit your individual wants, I love the Hoss in my stable. It is a perfect fit between the Sledge and the Rustler VXL. If I were to want a larger monster truck, I have to put my dollars toward the full size Losi LMT. Nice to have choices.
Perfect! This is what I have been waiting for ... a tough very portable RC basher. I'm getting one and keeping it in the car at all times. When they released the BL2s version recently I was like ... nearly perfect but I want VXL Torque. I don't really care about the speed ... it's the torque to do flips.
My thoughts too. I liked the BL2s but wanted the vxl power but didn’t want to rip out the electronics on a new truck right away. And it’s a good portable basher. I like 1/8 but sometimes it’s a bit much to lug around or find good spots to run them.
Finally when to my hobby shop and bought the slash ultimate they had a great deal they gave two batteries and a charger can’t wait to get back in to running it 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
was very horizon of them to discontinue it, I bought Traxxas only for years just because they didn't do that. if I had a Hoss I'd be pissed and I had it in my cart many times over the years too. just never had the extra cash. Now I'm looking for a couple monster trucks and I'm hesitant to buy this one because maybe they want to make a mini max and cancel the stampede
Very cool! My aunt gave me an og stampede 4x4 was brushed but she had the smaller vxl motor I put in it. She got me into the hobby with that truck and it’s still my favorite. Her thing is mini crawlers n now I have a few of those but nothing like taking the stampede to the skatepark lol. Love they came out with a newer one. I’ve been wanting another basher but was thinking of a mini revo for the kids.
I clean up on the consignment deals everytime Traxxas comes out with a new version of something. Everyone wants the latest and greatest. I pick up lightly used models, then add in the HD stuff myself, avoiding the high initial cost of the stock model. Keep up the great work Traxxas.
I agree, however, the cost to upgrade my stampede to this new version is more than the cost of the new version lol. Traxxas really needs to lower their parts prices and their kit prices. Sure would be nice if they would sell unassembled chassis for half the price of their RTR. They can keep their crappy ultra shocks too lol. Bleh.
I've actually had great luck with the ultra shocks. I have a brushless 2wd rustler and have beat the snot out of it. So far, no bent shock shafts and no broken shock caps.
@OBS4ever16 The Traxxas dealer in Cadillac MI says they are not that great for bashing. I already planned on upgrading. Still waiting for my aluminum shock towers before throwing the parts cannon at this car. I already have most of the parts now. Once I start, I do not want to stop until it's ready to run.
Yea except it's way way cheaper buying them already installed. No excuses. It's cool to not want or even have hundreds. Or thousands to blow on toys. Either way it's way better and cheaper to buy the vehicle in it's extreme heavy duty" version such as an ultimate. I learned that the long way too buddy.

It flies so nice and light. Looks like brakes should be turned down for proper air control. Shocks also need some stiffness, a little too bouncy on landings. I’ve always like how light this lineup jumps, this Stampede finally has an out of box setup I wouldn’t have to spend too much to upgrade. Too bad about the shocks.
I had the 2wd and 4 wheel drive vxl fun trucks sold them they seemed to flip everytime i turned unless was going slow and never cared for the hoss ive had the 1st edition maxx since the first come out did the wide kit and steel axles ,now the maxx is a beast but i guess if they are just getting into the hobby stampede would be good
I've had this truck for several years already (maybe people have)... All my 3s trucks are outfitted with MIP X-Duty CVD's and aluminum carrier/hubs, so until I need to replace the body, I'll take off the sticker. Voila, latest and greatest model.

Literally the day after I got the Extreme-HD upgrade kit for my Hoss, MSM releases this video with what is literally a Hoss with the kit. Seeing some of those landings at the skate park have removed any doubts in my mind about the strength of the kit. My stock Hoss would definitely have broken on more than one of them. That being said, I agree about the shock oil. The Hoss always chassis-slapped hard and it usually rolled over as a result. I’ve got GTR shocks with 40-weight oil and pink-rated springs on the way to remedy that. Now, to talk about the new truck itself, I think it’s great. Obviously it’s just a Hoss with the upgrade kit, but the Hoss is such a fun truck without it that I can’t imagine the new Stampede (or as I like to call it, the Hossipede) being any less fun. Now, it’s just a lot more durable, which is always a good thing. It’s also gratifying that my predictions about the Hoss came true. While it technically isn’t a Hoss, I predicted that Traxxas would update the Hoss to the Extreme HD upgrade kit when they released a promo video showing the Hoss with the kit installed, and then the Hoss went out of stock everywhere. With all that said, great video Mark, and I’m excited to see more on this truck in the future.
Different vehicles for different purposes. I have a brushed 2wd Stampede and a Maxx. The Stampede is fun in spaces the Maxx is limited in like driveways. It whips around turns. The Maxx is a boat in comparison but my servo is needing replacement. For jumps there's no comparison. My Stampede blows shock caps off when hitting a 5 foot drop. My Maxx repeatedly hits drops like that without damage. The Maxx is a bigger vehicle for bigger spaces. That said the Stampede in 2wd form is way cheaper to run. I haven't replaced anything but motors on my Stampede for years. Those are $20 each for brushed replacements. My Maxx has needed far more work, like could have purchased a second Stampede for the parts cost. To be fair the Maxx gets jumped way higher, averages speeds faster than the Stampede's top speed and goes over much worse ground than the Stampede can go on. The Maxx is far more capable but be ready to pay to play if you run 4S batteries. Also, I wouldn't dream of handing the Maxx to just anyone. No such concerns with the Stampede.
The punch that the 540XL motor gives combined with the heavy wheels and high CG make this car insanely fun. You can have a lot of fun in a small space because it has so much torque and brake.
So I'm not convinced of the Extreme HD kits. First off let me say that I love me some Traxxas and they are my go to brand. The previous version of the Rustler and Hoss already had an HD kit installed and there is really very little difference between that and the "Extreme" version. The wheel hubs are stepped preventing the use of aftermarket aluminum hexes with actual set screws on the Extreme kit. I am grateful that the prices didn't go up though. Anytime I have ever had an issue with my Rustler VXL it has been where the hinge pin engages the suspension arm. They fail there and I don't think the Extreme kit will make a difference.
I thought they were getting rid the stampede 4x4 VXL when I saw they took it off the their website and only had the bl2s stampede. Glad they didn’t get rid of it, cause I still haven’t got one lol.
For the most part, I think almost everyone agreed that the Hoss should have just been called a Stampede 4x4 V2 when it first came out. None the less, this truck looks great and I would love to get one if I could ever get another new RC
It was 30 years ago that I got my first stampede. I wish I would’ve kept it but back then I wasn’t interested in holding onto RC cars for a collector item like I do now for quite some time.
My next RC car will be American made but I tested the waters with a hbx 16890sa and it’s a lot of fun. It’s probably same as a lot of American knives , lots of parts made somewhere else
You are probably the only RC person who hasn't broken Traxxas heavy duty parts lol or lucky as there junk I've broken countless plastic Traxxas Maxx axles upgraded to there steel CvD and they lasted about 8 months and snapped so upgraded to vitivon axles now hoping for better luck
The 4x4 stampede was way lighter and did not body slam the concrete,plus being able to chose your favorite body was just as much fun. The original 4x4 stampede is a legend and should live forever.

Nah its landjng sideways far as the wheels. My maxx will also do this when jumping hard. just need some loctite if an issue or just keep conscious of that when landing hard
Funny enough i was driving my senton the other day and the wheel flew off but somehow the hex and pin were just sitting in the grass right next to the truck

The Ultra shocks 'work' but with what they're charging, it should include the GTR shocks. No excuses.

One way to keep from losing the hex pins is to magnetize them. The same way you do a screwdriver or hex driver.
I wish my felony had that much brake. Fun truck.

The Hoss was actually a Beta version of the New Stampede 4X4 VXL V2.

The pins in the wheel hex suck. I throw those out and replace them with the ones with screw to hold it in place.

Funny enough i was driving my senton the other day and the wheel flew off but somehow the hex and pin were just sitting in the grass right next to the truck
