Yo! I went patagucci this year. Got the powderbowl jacket/pants and I couldn’t be more stoked on them! Now we just need snow in Tahoe so I can use them! Thanks for the info Kevin!!
I finally got a pair of Gore Tex Pants, no more wet chair lift days, Went with Volcom L Goretex PAnts with a 2018 Volcom TD2 jacket I found online still new with tags for $200! Im stoked!
My Favorite outerwear has been *Bonfire* , Mt. Hood born and bred.... Extremely durable, designed for hard seasons at Mt. Hood... Stretchy 30k/15k outerwear without that rigid feeling of goretex. and built to last. Bonfire Bib's are legend.
I used to only rock bonfire, although I feel like they got left behind in the last 3 years. AK has some great pieces, as well as arcteryx (me supporting local being from Canada). I find the volcom gear to be on the heavier side.
@@brennanvisser depends on what you are looking for. Arcteryx new lines are sitting at $1100 CAD for their new jacket line like 700 for pants. With no tech reason for it. Nice designs but that is what you are paying for because the tech used is no diff from the other big brands. AK is burtons outerwear division.. but it's hard to get into burton outerwear after they killed forum and foursquare. Bonfires tech in their outerwear and the construction mixed with bang for buck makes them the all around winners. Specially for snowboarding. Imo.
@@dootdoot1867 I have no issue with getting into Burton since forum and four square. Multiple brands competing under one firm is company cannibalism. I admit they lost their touch for a while but I think they're back on track. My last AK jacket has been my favourite, ever, and my arcteryx jacket was 800CAD with a 3L goretex pro and it really is worth it if you're going to later or ski tour. All depends on where you ride. I will say bonfire was great for my region of boarding, however, they fell off the map in Canada.
In Japan you don't have to worry so much about water as it's so damn cold, normally around -10 and below on Hokkaido. However...., insulation is a pretty important consideration there. In Australia, you really need Goretex as it hovers around 0C in the Alpine areas so snow generally melts on you as well as facing the rain.
@@SnowboardProCamp Yep..., been slightly frost bitten a few times on my nose from the icy windchill......., love it :) Really nice jacket Kevin. 3L stretch "Guch", love the colour.
This season i really want the Solomon Huck Knife 2019 its beautiful but also a nice medium between trix and Riding. Great Job as always Kevin! Your videos are always well informed keep the good work
Just note why Kevin is not riding the Huck Knife much these days... As he had 2 of them that had De-lamination problems. If you are riding 5-20 days a year? Great board. if you ar rocking 30-100? Might be worth looking into something that stands up to that abuse more.
Perfect timing, I am due for a new jacket and pants. Trying to decide is a pain in the you know what. I live in Australia and do Japan trips every second season. What do you think I need? I'm tempted for GoreTex as we do get rain in Perisher. Thoughts everyone and Kevin? Another question, when to use pants or bib?
My vote also goes for getting light! Losing any extra weight is key! Empty out those pockets and get your layers as light and loosely comfortable as possible. Too many heavy layers and pockets full of stuff make riding much less enjoyable.
Now this is an important thing that despite my experience, i still struggle with. I try to get gear for all seasons. I like to ride snowy/stormy days so goretex is good but i like a light free moving jacket. Digging the new jacket kev!
What, if any, issues have others experienced with durability? I'm curious to hear comparisons between all the high end Gore-Tex parkas like Patagonia, Burton AK, Volcom, etc ..
Last season I picked up a Neff x Disney specialist jacket in 10k and it works perfect for Wisconsin! I also got a pair of North Face Freedom pants that are 25psi which rounds to about 17.5k and they are also good and you can find them cheap because they are discontinued!
I like to think 10 degrees for each layer. So if it's 20 out I want 5 layers for standing around and 4 if I don't want to sweat too much while on my board. If it's 40 and slushy I could get by with a flannel and hoodie for example.
Hey Kevin, was thinking of picking the Guch jacket myself but it doesn’t have a lift pass sleeve pocket, do you think it’s a deal-breaker? How’s the jacket been so far?
I Find Gore-tex can be extremely stiff fabric... You can get 30k waterproofing/20k Breathability from Bonfire outerwear with the Fabric being stretchy. Bonfire started making outwear for Mt. Hood's spring and summer conditions... Wet, Hard, icy, sandy dirty snow... with some of the sickest terrain parks around.
@@eagle___empire3175 that is a big assumption. Gore tex is stiff, non stretch..and heavier fabric. This is known. You can get higher waterproof rated stuff with fabric that stretches. That is the point being made. If you are getting a jacket? Who cares if it stretches... but pants and bibs are a complete different story.
Sweat and mittens. I have the NEFF you recommended but when my hands sweat, and I takem off putting them back in is crazy hard. And while they're thin, they're not warm once you sweat in them. What do you recommend?
Kev, you should give a high-end ski jacket and pants a go. You might find that you don't have to layer up so much and that your gear will last longer than a single season.
Can you please do a Video On 5k 10k 15k etc waterproof pants to show how well they work in certain conditions, we don’t really have a good vid out there doing that they just tell you but I wanna see it.
Volcom just needs to hook Kevin up with a sponsorship already. Currently wearing the Dakine Smyth II jacket, and Burton AK pants. Both have Gore-Tex. The east coast is really unpredictable especially in the mid-Atlantic.
I've been in bibs for years and tried pants in the spring time. Suspenders have helped w/ the transition and my pants don't sag. Amazon has these "Holdup Hidden Undergarment" ones in 1.5" or 2" wide. They also have XL versions for those taller than 6'

Nope, he buys it all. With a RUclips channel being a business it's quite literally just a small business expense. He buys the gear and the gear makes him money. Think of it this way, a general contractor spends $80k on tools, a truck, and a trailer so he can go build $300k worth of houses.
Oh, I dunno. Kevin gets lots of views. What if companies who want exposure for their merchandise provided free gear to him, for display/endorsement in his videos? Cheap advertising for them. I see it on other channels.
@@innocentbystander3798 He has brand deals just like every other big RUclipsr, but he has mentioned Volcom is not one of them. Volcom only give free gear to their Ambassadors (strictly pro riders) which are listed on their website.
Well, well, well. The only missing point is that there must be something funny in the outerware. In my case this is my jacket DC. It is yellow with fantastic colorful fishes. So these graphics makes the difference.
For what they cost ($350-$900), they really should have much higher quality zippers! Every jacket I've ever had the zippers break after a few seasons! If I spend more than $400 for a jacket it better last my whole life!
I like to be able to peel off layers, and change the look (colors) after any run-ins with whoever. And don't forget how important proper camo can be when hiding because getting your lift ticket cut by ski patrol sucks.
Not worth it unless you are doing some serious mountain/backcountry riding. It's performance gear, which doesn't mean it will be the best for everyday resort riding. The marketing is just convincing people that they need it, when the same people probably get outside 3.7 times a season. I can wait for this season to witness all the people with this stuff on who can barley get off a chairlift.
