No disrespect to Jenny but this method just doesn’t make any sense to me either.
Check out Therese Downunder: she starts with 9” blocks and makes quarter square triangles
She uses captions, which I like and I mute the music. But most importantly, I take her speed down to 25%. You’ll see why.
And the color ways she shows at the end are to die for!
She does all kinds of blocks that are interesting to me. But, as I said, I have to watch at 25%.

This looks fairly easy but I have the Accuquilt and the hunter's star die. It does all the cutting and all I have to do is see!!

I am a seasoned quilter, Janice, and have some advice for you. If you work with precision and choose your contrasting fabric carefully, this method works. But I abandoned mine mid-stream because I just didn’t like the look and am now repurposing my star blocks into table runners. I was going for a scrappy look, so I used a variety of light fabrics, instead of one light fabric as Jenny did. In doing so, I lost the secondary arrow effect. That left me with an overpowering sea of stars that wasn’t muted by the contrasting arrows, and I hated it. I don’t often pull the plug on a project, but I couldn’t bring myself to complete a quilt top I hated.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I saw this pattern and fell in love with it a few years ago. I decided that 2024 was going to be the year and I knew that I needed to see if Jenny had done a video on it. I love the way her brain thinks about patterns. This seems totally doable now!

I loved Jenny’s version of this quilt so much that I made it using her techniques but adapted to sewing by hand as I had no machine at the time. I enjoyed making the top but put it aside to quilt and - you guessed it! - never got round to it… Several years later it’s only now going off to be quilted but I still love the pattern and always enjoy Jenny’s enthusiasm and the expertise she and her team kindly share with us - keep up the good work, MSQC!

My favorite was once you were cutting and you almost cut on the wrong side of the stitching and truly I was trying to stop you from making the mistake when you realized what you had almost done and you said, "I can hear you gasping" and that was exactly what I had been doing! I just laughed and laughed! You are a delight to watch!

This is the Perfect pattern to make QOV (Quilt of Valor) and i have presently made 3 and the Awesome 3 Veterans are snuggled with all the Love that went into each of them. I am a PROUD Navy Mom and made sure that each of my QOV ( Have currently done a total of 42 since 2008 when my son went into the Navy) are proudly presented to Navy Veterans. My favorite Hunter Star QOV was done with Red instead of White as the background. Jenny just know that myself and all the other Thousands of Quilters- all ages/stages of quilting- THANK YOU and your Family for bringing us so many beautiful quilt patterns and your Love of Quilting. I m so glad for the camera angle from over top otherwise i may have gone and bought more fabric to make that 2 3/4ths measurement 🤭 i understand I've made mistakes in many quilt or instruction too but eventually it all gets done and comes out 👌 . I made a king sized quilt out of this pattern for my granddaughter for her HS graduation this past May. I worked 3 1/2 months completing this quilt. I put a design of bias strips on the wide border. I thought I was never going to get it done. Printing out the detailed blocks were essential to me. I watched this video numerous times. Whew, don’t think I will ever make another Hunter’s Star king size again! Thank you for this video, kept me going!

Hi Juba. When I square up a HST (half square triangle) I use a Bloc Loc ruler. It has a grove on the underside that sits in the seam to make sure you don't cut off more on one side than the other. I was at a a retreat where someone had one and we all tried it. It was wonderful so I went out and purchased one right away. They come in different sizes so I bought the 6" which can be used on size HSTs less than 6 inches. It might help you in the future since I know it has helped me. Have fun sewing!

I have been saving the cutest Black and White floral prints for years to make a Hunters Star. I found a pattern years ago and made a sample block, the pattern was very challenging so of course I filed the beautiful Block inside a baggy, hoping to be prompted to complete it. Thank You Jenny’s for simplifying this pattern for me.

Hi Jenny, You have made life so easy when it comes to making Quilts. I have been quilting since the 80's, I just love the so easy way you design these quilt. I have already made 6 of them. Now I' going to do this one. I've wanted to do a star quilt for years but was put off by the way they were made. Now I'm into this one. Thank you for this. I also like being able to print out the diagrams.

"I really should be setting my seams, but I just get sooo excited!" plays in my head - in your voice, Jenny - every time I go to press. So I never forget to "set my seams and roll 'em back"!

Jenny you are so easy to understand, I admire the way you do it. I'm sure I've made these blocks before in two colours only though. The blocks I made were called Annies Choice and I made them in red with a white back ground. Keep up the great work!

I have always wanted to make the Hunter 's Star quilt, but it looked so complicated, I wouldn't attempt it. Now I have ideas floating around my mind about which colorway I want to start with. Thanks, Jenny.
