There would never be a boring day in the neighborhood, that's for sure!
I totally vibe with both the parents and the kid here. I did this when I was a tween. And I do this now that I'm a parent.
You never fail to entertain, Penn. Well done!
My kids laugh when they see this. We live in Northern Wisconsin and even at negative 20, they try to leave the house without all of their gear! lol!
I live in Minnesota haha. Relatable

Same here in Saskatchewan!😁
I'm in northern Illinois and that's far enough north!

@@JYYB my sister is the same. I don’t always wear a coat if it’s cold (not freezing) while I am running errands but I always at least have it in the car just in case.

I’m autistic too 😂 that was me at his age.
YES! I am showing this to my middle school classes. The coat vs. hoodie struggle is very real.
I was thinking about showing it to my highschools students. If he had used blankets then I would for sure show it.

I'm in Ontario, Canada and we just got a TON of snow on Monday (37 cm measured in our driveway!), so of course, it was a snow day. My 11 year old happily played in the snow that evening with her friend, building a snow fort in full winter gear. The next morning for school though? Nope, she didn't want to wear her snow pants! 😳 The snow is up to our knees and the snow banks are 5 feet high!! After trying to tell her that she needed to wear her snow pants, she finally said she would "bring them with her" to school. Funny though, she didn't complain about putting them on this morning!! 🤣🤣🤣
Oh my goodness! This is every day with our 11-year-old son! "He wants to wear shorts so that his friends can see his socks!" LOL! You captured the humor of this so perfectly. Sweet auto-tune at the end, too. Thanks for bringing a smile and some laughter to my day. Love you guys! :)
😂😂😂😂
Yeah, my 20-year-old brother came to my house the other day when it was snowing and in the teens outside wearing shorts. When I asked him what he was thinking, he was like it's warm in your house.

OH MY WORD are you seeing inside my house every single stinking day? We live in Northern California, and while not super freezing, it still is 40° when we walk outside for school. You need a dang coat! That hoodie is not a jacket! If you can see your breath, you need a coat. That is actually a rule we have in our house. And yet, it gets ignored.
You guys are awesome. Thank you for these videos! They keep us sane, relatively speaking.

This is actual footage of my conversation every morning with my 11 year old son. I feel less alone now that my kid is the only one wearing just a hoodie in the freezing cold!
My 6 year old didn't want to wear his coat, we were late so I said fine keep on the hoodie we are late for school. Teachers gave him a coat out of the donations and put his name on it. He brought it home in his backpack 🤦♀️
🤣🤣🤣
Let him wear what he wants to - it’s called natural consequences- if he finally gets to cold & he doesn’t have his coat, oh well - no one to blame but himself. I’m a retired Montessori preschool teacher who had a few children who wore shorts all winter long. They actually weren’t cold in class. And to go outside for recess - all children had to wear their snow pants, which they gladly put on. This is one power struggle that isn’t worth it!!
I loved the line about you kid wearing the same hoodie every day. I have the same problem.
Same hoodie every day and yet the laundry still piles up!!
This is SpOT on!! As a teacher, we had to remind kids that their hoodies were not coats and needed to be washed!!! They were being worn every day as coats and getting NASTY!!
I just asked my 12 year old when was the last time she washed said hoodie.
@@michellemantonya9281 lol
There was a kid the same age as mine. He honestly did not get cold-ever. To my knowledge, he still wears shorts through the winter and he’s in his 30’s
This is me today. In my 30's snow outside, shorts. Sometimes even flip flops if the snow isn't deep.
The most I remember seeing my dad in is a light jacket. Usually wears a windbreaker. He's been known to wear sandals with socks and shorts in winter

My hoodie-wearing daughter does NOT like the nickname Elsa because "The cold never bothers her anyway". So we got her an extra-thick Carhartt winter hoodie and now everyone's happy.

This is so true! It's like there is something that switches on in their brains as they hit tween age. Suddenly it's no longer cool to be in a coat.... but then they walk around in their not warm hoodie, wrapped in a full sized blanket! Because that look so much cooler... right? 😂
Oh my gosh it's so funny that you said that about the blanket I've seen that. I was like what's up with that. LOL 😂
One of ours wants to walk around the house in nothing but underwear and his blanket - and complain that the house is cold...
Yes! My kids went to a school that allowed the high school kids to wear and use blankets in class. I asked why the heck they couldn’t just wear a coat and who knew what they were doing under that blanket????? We live on a farm so my kids spend a considerable amount of time outside and never argue about wearing a coat. (Well at least 95% of the time!) 🤷♀️

When being 'cool' is more important than being cold.
LOL!!! My daughter, at 30 STILL hates wearing a coat/warm clothes. In MN yesterday at 11am it was -8 but it felt like -20. At 11:30 I get a text "for the love of all that is Holy tell me you gotta pair of sweat pants I can borrow" I reply "sure, why?" "Tell ya when I get there". Here comes my daughter & Granddaughter (all of 9 months old, she's all bundled up and the dogs were crying because there were so many blankets they couldn't find her lol and there is my daughter. In a long dress. That has lasted 2 pregnancies (the oldest is 7) and she said she stopped to pump gas and jumped back in the car because "it was to freeking cold". So, parents, hang in there!!! It takes awhile, but they do eventually learn!!! 😊
I’m showing this to my son as soon as he gets up tomorrow - that’s us every morning bickering before school! 😂
Meanwhile in Canada... it was -25*C yesterday as I picked my kids from school.... junior high kids walking home in hoodies.
My favorite was the girl walking with my daughter saying she was cold, while carrying her winter parka in her arms. I ask, "Why don't you put on your coat?" ..."nah, I'm good..."
OK. But at the same time, I was also once a Canadian teenager so I get it... haha
Guessing she's not on the honor roll! 🤦♀️
And my school aged son, who only wears a hoodie, reminds me that "it's not cold out" and that he has a metabolism while I no longer do. LOL

Nooooooo after all this work Penn went to to convince you to wear a coat?!?? 😂😂
My brother always wore shorts during the winter time. He complained that it was always too hot in the buildings. To be fair, school rooms usually run between arctic and Sahara temperatures. (But given the occasional fire drill--still doesn't hurt to bring a jacket to school!)
I was subbing one day that the fire alarm went off. I told the middle school kids to pick up their jackets on the way out. It was freezing outside, and those that didn’t bring coats were shivering. I ended up getting some blankets I had stored in my car, including a space blanket. It took a while for them to cave but they finally accepted them. They didn’t look so cool then, but they were warm.
Growing up for me it was boots! I hated winter boots
Penn, your snowsuit is a flashback to the 80s
He is a true Gen X-er!!
I showed this to my 6' 1" young adult son who lives in hoodies and shorts. He giggled his way through the video then commented, "Neurotypicals do this too?"
Thank you ❤️
I’m autistic and I did this as a kid all the time too
This was 100% my experience with my kids about wearing coats during the winter. Also, I would tell them to use an umbrella or rain coat when it rains, they totally refuse and prefer to get wet.
😂😂😂😂
My hubby does this. Umbrella? Nah wet is where it is. 🤪
What's an umbrella??? Isn't that what Mary Poppins uses to fly?
My uncle has worn shorts his whole life. I’ve never seen him in pants. CRAZY 🤣

Does he work for UPS?
Does he have a job that allows that?
At some point I thought I’d stop having this conversation with my son, but nope! It sounds very much like yours, only without the beat and musicality! 😂
This is so funny. I live in Chicago, and at the school where I teach, we had a kid who wore cargo shorts to school every day, ALL FOUR YEARS, no matter how much snow there was. And, you know, with sandals.
Earlier this month, when it got warm again after a cold snap and it was over 35, someone somewhere posted, "If you don't see a Chicago dude in shorts today, it's 6 more weeks of winter." People responded with the locations in which they'd seen Chicago Dude In Shorts. It was...so us.
My "winter coat" is a heavy denim. My partner tossed it to me yesterday, calling it my "polar vortex gear."
I relate to this so much. My teen only wants to wear hoodies. All day, every day! And my neighbor, a grown man, still wears shorts all year long, including snowy January. He is out shoveling his driveway in shorts 😜
Are you in Chicago or Minnesota?
I had a FWB who did the same I told him to get a damn shirt on its -10 😂😂

Lol! I dropped my youngest off at high school the other day and saw that most kids, including her, were in hoodies or sweaters and some in shorts. I was in high school in the 90s and did the same. I chuckled, realizing that not much has changed. 😂❤ This should be up for a Grammy or American Music Award or something! 🤣❤
I feel this in my bones. This is my 14 year old's theme song. Though he has gone to sweatpants. But NEVER a coat! His reason: I'm only outside for 5 seconds getting on and off the bus. UGH.
This is the 3 year old I take care of too. They be like, we are getting in the car soon so I don’t need one. me when she’s in the car seat, do you want me to put a blanket over you?
Her: no 😂
Imagine my delight when I went to the grocery store and picked up my favorite magazine in the checkout line (Women's World) and I saw that you were featured in it not for the Amazing Race but for your blog. What a super few years you have had. First you guys blow up during lockdown for your songs about covid, a book launched, a game and then you announce the Race and now Womans World!!! What is next for you guys complete domination of the world? Love this for you guys!!!!!
My child goes to a small catholic school and I have heard the principal after morning announcements tell the kids they are to wear coats not hoodies when it is freezing cold.😆
😂😂😂
I went to private school and we would wear sweatpants under our skirts because the blue uniform pants were atrocious! The school made us take them off before entering the hallway, so every morning, there'd be a big group of us taking our sweatpants off at the entrance! 😆
Ontario here. My kids definitely choose their clothing by what is easiest to fit under snow wear and into boots. No long sweaters. No 3/4 sleeves. No bulky pants. It’s always, “I don’t like the feel of that under my ---.” Daughter doesn’t even want high pony tails. They don’t fit under her toque. 😂 And the rule at school is, “If your parents sent it… put it on!!” 😂😂😂
Right?!!? Nailed it yet again!!
We are in the depth of winter, but I just wear my sweatshirt to school. I do have a reason though, I spend exactly 2 seconds outside during school days, I don’t have a locker, and I don’t want to carry my coat all around my school. I wear my actual coat whenever I go anywhere else though.
My boys have been like this since high school. They are adults now and still wear shorts and hoodies instead of a coat every winter.
Every man ever
Oh my goodness, can I identify! Yes, it's California, yes it's not snowing, but we do have cold days and getting my grandsons to wear a genuine coat and long pants is like pulling teeth from a fighting boar! I love this video, Penn and Kim! It's funny but true!
When I met my husband, he was 21and wore shorts and a very thin jacket all winter through snowstorms that dumped feet of snow. He had done that since he was in middle school. And now that we're in our mid-40's and live somewhere with no snow, he wears long pants and coats and sits with a space heater.... LOL
I guess tweens have a thing against coats, my nephew who is 12 is "never" cold. Then later (if he managed to leave without you noticing he left it behind) you have to give him your coat, so now you are the one who is cold because while its their fault you're not gonna let a kid be cold no matter how annoyed you are at them. I think they just don't want to carry it when they are indoors, like school, a store, or the movies. When I was like 15-16 I wouldn't wear my long johns (I grew up in NYC) and would walk to school, freezing my ass off just so I wouldn't have to carry them around when inevitably it go too hot at school because of the heaters, and had to take them off, and then stuff them in my backpack were they would be in the way for the rest of the day. He also will not wear jeans, or dress pants, always wants shorts or sweats. My sister has a hard time getting him into slacks or even a pair of jeans for formal events.
I think you’ve hit on it! Of course. All the schools have to do is turn down the heating. Save the coats, save the planet!
and hats

At least he left the coat on the stairs. My son would leave his on the bus, never to be seen again. We bought multiple coats every winter. : (
A lot of kids do that! 🤦♀️
Just tell them they’ve got a winter jacket and if they want another they’ll have to get it for themselves

I laughed so hard I cried. This was my life for so many years with my kids. Only thing I would add is they will wear that hoodie when it is hot too!!!
Our son wouldn’t wear a traditional coat when he was a teen ager but he liked very thin, long sleeve ski undershirts. Thin layers work as well as bulk.

"I see you guys want to have indoor recess today. We're not going outside until everyone puts on their coats."
That is terrible! You don’t know how they feel and it is absolutely nobody’s place to tell someone else what to wear!
Poor kiddo is gonna look back on this one day and say “those socks with those shows? Did my parents hate me or something?” Lmao 🤣 in all truth tho, I absolutely LOVED this, and it was adorable that he went along everything (hopefully willingly 😛).
To look back at these vlogs later on in life will be priceless; even if it’s having a fun laugh at a sibling’s fashion choices at the time (trendy or not). I still make fun of my brother for thinking it was “cool” to wear all of the same color at once. I mean- from head to toe, he wore solid blue. A blue hat, a plain blue t-shirt, plain blue shorts- but, I’m pretty sure, in the picture, he has on white socks and black tennies. I mean, the poor kid was a total fashion disaster, but our family still mentions it every now and then as a way of remembering my brother.
My point being- it’s the silly in life that can bind us together sometimes, and I absolutely love the goofiness of the Holderness fam as a whole. No matter where life takes you as a family, looking back at something small like that and being able to find the joy in the silly will get you through the hard times in life. It’s something I take away from this channel and it’s always a nice break in my day. ♥️🤟
The argument me and my parents have every morning before school put into a song! This is so funny

This song made my top 5 most played of 2022 ;) . My girls love it!
I love that you can make anything sound cool with auto tune lol. Ps- I really wish I was your neighbor 😂
Something about becoming an adult changes your internal thermostat. Growing up in Iowa, a popular winter outfit at school was shorts and a sweatshirt. I remember feeling perfectly comfortable like that. Now, though? No way. Give me that coat or I'll freeze.
This. Is. My. Life. "put your coat on your arms!" I finally gave up. She can be cold if she wants to be. I am warm in my knee length down COAT - mom in Michigan, currently 22* and dropping....
There should be a sequel about how all my students ARE wearing hoodies inside our 90 degree classrooms with the broken AC in our Hawaii public schools. They tell me, "No, it's not hot INSIDE the hoodie!"
My daughter does that too. All those nice shirts and cute saying t shirts....Nobody sees them!!!! And because they design girls shirts ridiculously short and she is tall , she has to wear a long tank top under the actual shirt. So 3 layers...in summer in 98* heat in humid Pennsylvania (not hawaii but it gets hot here ) SIGH
I ALWAYS wear a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie over that and no it’s not hot it’s comfy I freeze to death all the time even in the middle of summer
My daughter didn't wear a coat to school because there wasn't a place to put it. In high school, the full sized lockers were replaced with half lockers to discourage guns in school. She wore jeans and hoodies all the time.
Same with my dtr. No place to put it. Wondering how a half locker replacing a full size locker discourages guns, tho!?🧐🤔How big ARE these guns they’re discouraging??🤯🤪
I had no idea how we were supposed to store books and a winter coat in our lockers. I ended up being the weird one carrying my coat with me when it was cold enough to wear. Hated having another thing to carry
I love this SO MUCH! We moved to Canada for this school year (last few years we've lived in Georgia, Ohio, the Caribbean...) And I have lost count of how many times I've had to tell the kids to PUT ON A COAT!! IT'S CANADA!! Their reply? It's fine, I'm fine. This is good enough.
OH MY GOSH. IT'S CANADA!! You need a COAT. You need MITTENS. You need AT LEAST ONE SCARF!
This is the song for me. Thanks, team!
Literally had this conversation with my daughter this morning before school! 😂
I rarely wore a coat in my tween years, and I was even more rarely sick. Kids who bundled up missed school much more often than I did. So . . .
But it's normal for parents to worry.
My daughter puts her coat on never an issue. Mind you she is out in Saskatchewan and is -30 right now.😂 you guys are too funny though.
You choose your battles with your kids. We live in a temperate climate, but it does occasionally get below freezing. One of my sons went through a phase in HS where he only wore shorts, no matter what the weather. He was a good kid, so I let that one pass and no he didn't die of pneumonia.
Literally just went through this with my teenager an hour ago. “Put on a coat.” She left with a hoodie….
🤦🏼♀️😂
I loved when Penn said "Hyperthermia" b/c I can't tell if he made a mistake at saying "Hypothermia" or just means his kid (like my own seemingly) has a super high body temp. Made me laugh.
I typically side with the kids in this area: "if they freeze, they'll learn their lesson." Still waiting for that lesson to sink in.....
I'm still waiting as well!!!
Bless you! I have been having this fight with my 7-year-old and can't wait for him to get home to watch this together!
You are 100% not alone
Love it. But "hyperthermia" is high body temperature-what they get when they WEAR a coat-while "hypothermia" is what I think you meant (low body temperature from freezing outside).
Well, hyperthermia you wouldn't get from wearing a coat- more like being trapped in a hot car. :(
Maybe hyperthermia is what he wants
Oh gosh yes!!! I’d rather be warm than score a few extra cool points. Kids! Gotta love ‘em!
THANK YOU, from parents and teachers everywhere! 🙏
Only thing I would change: mention flip flop wearing 🩴, even when there is snow 🥶
Nike or Adidas Slides with Nike Elite Basketball socks were the "must wear" in Buffalo for my son. I chuckled when I saw the back of Charles' heels walking out the door and there was a black stripe and dots there.
Had this conversation with the boys this morning. Snowing and and in the teens and they want to walk in a hoodie.
Love this video Penn is amazing at writing and everything in between for these videos. Penn Charles is growing up so quickly. It’s been a while since we have seen Lola. Let’s see something new with Lola and the whole family.
Sometimes teenagers are less interested in goofing off with their family. 🤷 So we shouldn't be surprised not to see Lola as much.
My mom showed me this and I am still convinced this is one of the coolest things someone's showed me.
2:59 If you wear a coat, you get hyperthermia. Not wearing a coat gives you hypothermia :)
Watching this week’s Amazing Race (leg5). Penn was so sweet reminding Kim that Amazing Race wouldn’t let her die. And then when he cried when she did her roadblock! So cute.
When I was a kid, I sort of wore it. I never zipped up and usually it was an off the shoulders coat. In Ohio. I don't remember being cold until my late 20's. Great video!!!😆😆😆😆😆
Watching this on my way back from school in 40 degree weather in no coat and shorts.

Somehow they never get cold
Come with your hoodie this weekend in Montreal. It's going to be -31 celsius or -24f for the American. If you don't have a coat you will be frozen.
Hilarious!!! My daughter is always telling her daughter to put a coat on. Grandma can’t say nothing. I don’t like coats they’re to hot!!!🤣🤣🤣. Love the song.
Tis true!!! Love y'all. This is a 🧥 coat.🤣😅🤣😅
As long as they do not complain that they are cold then they just need to learn the hard way. I am rarely cold enough to need more than a hoody and I wear tank tops and shorts in the winter.
Oh goodness yes! Let them find their own temperature unless it’s like, minus forty
I just don't want them getting sick dressing like it's summer and bringing home a cold ...then the whole house gets it. 😋
That is a myth. Cold does not make you sick.
The “I see london…” line is a work of art
For a second I thought you are singing about my 10 year old. 😂 This is so relatable!!!
Omg, this is spot on! I have 2 sons and they claim they are never cold! It had to be below freezing (we are talking 20 degrees) before my 15 year old agreed to wear a jacket over his hoodie, and even at 10 degrees he won’t zip it up! This morning it was -15F below zero and he agreed to zip it up-what?! We live in eastern Canada where, you know, it gets COLD in winter! 🥶 My kids also don’t turn on the heat in their rooms, even when the temperature drops to 60 degrees, whereas I need heat below 68F! Is it just a teenage boy thing? 🤷♀️
Probably! Also adult men 😂
Your songs always have me rolling

Best advice to parents fighting with kids over wearing warmer clothing. Just put warm cloths in there bag and be done with it. They have them if they want them. They don’t want to wear them then fine. Short of them getting frost bite just let them be cold, they will learn.
The 5 year old I take care of won’t wear his snow pants
His parents and I have given up. They just go in his backpack 😂
