Not for all of them especially not if you fix them correctly I've saved five cars from a flood it was hurricane Ian I just assessed the water level and what modules and wiring harnesses were affected replaced the harnesses and the modules cleaned everything of course and the cars have been problem-free since
You fellows still have the “golden touch” in my book. Although you lost money on this one, you were able to greatly minimize the loss with your tireless search for the right used parts. Well done in the end.
It's because everyone claiming transmission by VIN is full of shit in plain English, Bentley said the same during my GT rebuild, claimed the same for engine ECU'S, all BS, I have a 2010 Bentley GT Supersports engine, quick shift transmission with mechatronic inside, twin engine ECU'S, instrument cluster, all installed in my 2005 GT with a complete front to rear wiring harness from my 2006 GT parts vehicle, along with the KESSY module from the 2006 with the 2010 engine and transmission all working together, my turbos are from the 2014 Bentley GT engine I purchased before finding the Supersports engine transmission package. Don't always believe the dealership !
When you get a flooded car, first thing is to remove the battery/do not apply power to the car, you should change all the fluids, check all the computers/wires/plugs for corrosion and after that you may start it up. It may have corrosion issues come up eventually.
I bought a flood prosch panamera 4 out Florida in 22 and I strip it completely apart clean all the electrical components replaced some computers did some rewire and did and engine flush and got it running with no problem I love a flood ill do it all over again
Had a similar experience (of course not with a Maserati, but the gearboxon my car gave up and I was told the mechatronic is VIN specific and a used gearbox wont work. I asked for a picture of the nameplate my old gearbox and got a similar gearbox (matched to my nameplate) and the box worked without coding needed
Draining oil is akin to testing blood. You want to see if there are any contaminants. Also, you don't know how old is the oil. Far better value to drain and then fill with fresh oil.
Mechanic here, I’d sell that car as soon as possible. You may lose money right now but it’s only a matter of time until the next issue pops up and as you can see the issues that occur aren’t ever cheap. Remember, at the end of the day a Maserati is just a fancy Chrysler. And you know how Chrysler is with build quality.
Flood cars can be a home run depending on the water level. As you now know with it being in such beautiful condition aesthetically, it would have been a true bargain if you folks had done the “save the flood car protocol” right from the start. This car should have been stripped down almost completely depending on the water line as soon as it landed at the garage. Every wire connection tested end to end, engine and transmission stripped down to every nut and bolt, every component checked and validated for its condition, and reassembled correcting all known issues and pertinent upgrades. It is a beautiful car and it’s too bad being just a bit over zealous smacked that down. But again, that is definitely a beautiful spec. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
JR I have the same car never flooded. The transmission had E clutch stator bushing failure at 35k miles. Wouldn’t shift above 3rd gear. I had to spend a fortune to rebuild it but the dealer wanted double what I spent. On the mechatronics the ECU is on a plastic piece that’s screwed to the valve body and the circuit board is on the side that attaches to the shifter.
no...I drive a 5 generation quatroporte myself and nothing special has happened... the car has 240,000 km and drives and looks like new. In Europe, mercedes and bmw will be much more unreliable and even more expensive. in this case, when buying a car with possible defects...you have to be aware of it. the car is excellent and under no circumstances for sale💪
I bought a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte from auction, shipping and fees all in about $6,500. Wouldn't start, had to take it to the Maserati service center to decouple the rear axle to get it off the trailer. F1 pump in the transmission was the first thing to fix before further diagnostics. At the time I didn't have the money to fix it so I sold it to a guy local who was going to LS swap it. I lost $4,500 on that car.
i cant believe Maserati is charging prices like that! The transmission will cost Maserati like a 1000$ worst case, why not sell it for 5000 grand plus labor? nobody who had to pay this rippoff will ever buy a maserati again
The trick is to buy only flooded vehicles from Copart lots you can visit. Look for the water line! The employees aren't hovering over you incognito pull a panel loose ( if an SUV the cargo area and you can see ) then a front kick panel and if the hood opens or if you can get underneath the engine bay- Once you eyeball the water level you know the level versus the world who have to go by the 6 pictures online. Of course sign out the key and plug in your OBD2 reader and see what you get since your are there. 7 times I've come away OK!
Well man, one way to not lose, keep it yourself, the market may change and you really don't have to sell it so cheap. The car is desirable and somebody will want it for themselves dispite the flood title.
Sell it you guys are master minds when it comes to fixing auction car headaches. You can always get another one down the road you're not in the biz to buy and keep. You guys will make it up somewhere down the line I'm sure. Great job love the super car videos as well as the Porsche videos.
First, having worked for a Maserati dealership, I can first tell you that most Maserati dealerships are multi line. They are not high volume sellers so most of the techs spend most of their time working on the cars that sell in higher volumes. Hence there is seldom if ever a tech that only works on that particular Maserati. Next, never ever, ever buy a salvage title flood car or car that had fire damage or been next to a building that burned. The problems never end. Corrosion that you can’t see will grow under the insulation of the wires changing their resistance and also inside of the control units. Once the failures start, they never stop. If you sell it to an individual, no matter what you tell them, they will end up hating you and bad mouthing you all over the internet. Your best bet is to run it through an auto auction and take what you can get. Take your loss one time on this car, no matter how the loss is. That will end up being better than losing future business for years to come as a result of bad publicity. There will almost always be some dealer at the auction who will let the lure of the dollar outweigh his better judgment. Let the end customer hate him instead of you.
I had a 2009 GT and it had gremlins even without your flood damage. One time I hit a pothole and the air conditioning stopped working. The suspension was also pretty harsh and the steering feel was loose. I really dont miss it.
You can indeed assign a vin yourself to a new tronics unit. Look up rtos hackers or electronic hardware hackers. You can pull the flash(jtag) if its not damaged (the chip) and do a jtag image swap.
I see an LS conversion video in JR's future. Call Hoovie. You could do a collaboration, maybe develop training videos for Maserati conversions. I see a lucrative fiture for people invested in these beautiful Stellantis disasters.
To all the haters out there because you feel like that you've had your day but guess what at some point you're going to think hey I've gotten a jam of something what what your boat out of the water it cost you another $5,000 we all go through this what's interesting about this is that he being honest about how he feels he is telling us how he felt what he went through any one of us have gone through the same exact I for one respect you and thank you and appreciate you for posting this video
I’d keep the thing. Use it as a nice GT cruiser or use it as content for a real world cost of ownership and reliability study on actually daily driving an “exotic” if the maintenance is kept up correctly. I haven’t been a big fan of this car over the years. But that spec is legit beautiful for that design and really makes the car. It’s a keeper if it’s a loss now that everything seems to be buttoned up. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Have you guys tried overseas (specifically the middle east)? Lots of countries with drivers with more money than sense that like to fill up exotic car scrap yards with their oops moments.
I’m torn, the car looks sweet and I have no doubt it handles great however, with it being a flood car and you already had some high dollar repairs on, who knows what can happen in the future. But if you have someone who is willing to pay what you’re asking, it maybe a good idea and letting it go. No law says you can’t buy a NON flood car in the future.. one more thing, I see you still didn’t replace the suspension module that was missing from when you bought the car. I would’ve figured it would’ve been one of the first things you purchased besides the engine when the first one blow up of course. Love the channel guys please keep the videos coming.
I bought a flooded Honda CRV it was flooded halfway up up to the windows on the doors just replaced the body harness interior fuse box and reprogram the keys to the car because for some reason they were stored in the fuse box and she's running and driving perfect has been since hurricane ian
Don't seel right away. Drive it for atleast a 1000 miles and see how you like it. If it still runs it's solid and you make up your mind then. Also you have a bit of fun back. They should be nice to drive so keep it for a while.
Why do people comment on the parts being from a dart? The darts been discontinued since 2016, it might share a lot from Chrysler but that’s with all cars with the 8.4 and switches it’s the brand stuff not just the dart
When will you make a new flight video with the Cessna Citation? Also, what happened to the Abandoned Gulfstream GIII? Additionally, how do you make all of the money to buy these cars and even planes? I don't know how much the Cessna Citation costed, but I am curious.
Sell it immediately. Better yet, part it out. Every bit of wiring, every piece of electronics in that car that was flooded will fail. Maybe this week, maybe next year, but it will fail. See Tavarish's experience with the flooded P1. Once the corrosion starts, it works its way up the wire and compromises electronics that were above the flood.
Hell to that, id of thrown in the considerably better ZF 8HP in it, Turbo Lamik and an adapter plate and this car would finally be the car it should of been!
keep it, enjoy it. i mean wtf else you gonna do with it other than sell it and be painfully aware of how much you are losing on it. plus even if you did sell it, you can make the replaced engine and trans a selling point to the buyer, the two most important and expensive items any buyer of a used car fears the most. plus, admit it, you look good behind the wheel of this beast and hardly anyone else owns one. it is unique.
So do we keep it or sell it?? Download the FREE Upside App at upside.app.link/jrgarage to get an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank of gas.
Just sell it to Freddy
Keep it and enjoy as much as you can. This spec combo is so sick, i love red interior cars ❤😍
Keep this up lol get paid and it’s real
Keep it. It’s still more than 50% discounted from original price. You won’t be able to get anything nearly as nice or fun with $39k.
Sell it to the first person who shows up
As a retired Auto Insurance Appraiser, I'd tell you to sell it. I dealt with many flood cars. The "fun" never stops.
Not for all of them especially not if you fix them correctly I've saved five cars from a flood it was hurricane Ian I just assessed the water level and what modules and wiring harnesses were affected replaced the harnesses and the modules cleaned everything of course and the cars have been problem-free since

Alternate title: How we shopped around to turn a 35k quote into a 5k quote transmission replacement.
Ne
👏🏼
Give it to Tavarish. Tavarish eats anything

bro you are a fkin thrillseeker, mad props... how much are you in it for?

Buying a car off the lot, CHANGE OIL FIRST regardless of water damage or NOT
Draining oil is akin to testing blood. You want to see if there are any contaminants. Also, you don't know how old is the oil. Far better value to drain and then fill with fresh oil.
Keep it and injoy it , you guys worked so hard to get it running, great video and beautiful car
Mechanic here, I’d sell that car as soon as possible. Make sure you service the rear-end again if you haven't done so. It will be next if you didn't. But I do love that car.
enjoy the car , you clearly like it, you like the looks , the sound .ect just keep it

Keep it, it's a beautiful car. Also, it would be good content to see how it ages and if any more issues pop up, or if it remains running perfect.
Was that a 914 in the garage? Make a video on it. Enjoy the channel. Thanks
no...I drive a 5 generation quatroporte myself and nothing special has happened... the car has 240,000 km and drives and looks like new. Beautiful car guys. But that’s definitely a Samcrac special. Ouch. Well, live and learn. You can stick to what you know makes you money. 👍🏻
Its sorted. Sell it. Get your money. Lesson learned.✌️
Hello? I am keeping it
i cant believe Maserati is charging prices like that! The transmission will cost Maserati like a 1000$ worst case, why not sell it for 5000 grand plus labor? nobody who had to pay this rippoff will ever buy a maserati again
I'd keep it.
The only problem with selling (and insuring it) is the branded (salvage)b title.
100% keep it. The Maserati Granturismo is one of the most beautiful and best sounding cars ever made. 👍👍
flood cars sometimes have zero issues, I have a 328 wagon that was flooded and is perfect...

Beautiful spec. If you have time to drive it, keep it, if it's going to sit, I say sell it. Please keep the videos coming. Thanks
All the $$ made on the Porsches should even out with this Maserati. You win some, you lose some. Love the content guys!!
Keep it !
What a great looking ride
So sad to see such a GOOD LOOKING vehicle be a big piece of junk 😢. Can't deny its an eye candy.
tbf it wouldnt have been so bad if they werent starting/driving it without changing all fluids first
Well man, one way to not lose, keep it yourself, the market may change and you really don't have to sell it so cheap. The car is desirable and somebody will want it for themselves dispite the flood title.

I was completely dumbfounded when someone with your experience would ever even consider starting. When I saw video.
And the gods were smiling. LoL
Best channel on RUclips.
Guys keep it and enjoy it.

What a nightmare, hope you recover from this 🙏
Start watching M539 restorations. He also bought a Masserati. Auw. Cost a fortune to rebuild and lots of hours in labour.
Ask Hoovie how his Maserati went

Let’s goooooo
It's a beautiful car. One of two best looking cars featured on your channel (the other one burned down, too bad :)).
I’d keep the thing. Gotta say the price you are asking sounds an absolute steal. I think just for fun you should keep it and gamble.
Send it ASAP before the next major expense. Chalk it up as a good learning experience. Have more fun with viable cars.
Wow, great story! Sell it if you can profit or break even. Keep it if you’ll lose money.
*where to find auctions like this in Toronto Canada area, that have sports cars* ??
Your beautiful ff on the outro makes me cry 😢
Right :(
When you say Maserati you can instantly set fire to your bank account.
Do you own one, do you have any clue…let me guess…you drive a BMW/Mercedes/Audi….?
@@ChicagoItaliani drive a bmw v10 m5
So says someone who 99.999% doesn't own one 🤔 🙄
Keep it, the Spec on it looks insane!
Best of luck 🤞🏻 It certainly is a beautiful Maserati 🇮🇹👌🏻
The perfect spec! She's a beaut
Have you guys tried overseas (specifically the middle east)? Lots of countries with drivers with more money than sense that like to fill up exotic car scrap yards with their oops moments.
Definitely because of the water man I’ve had two high mileage and still do granturismos and motors and granny’s were great over 100k miles
Gran Turismo are such a great car. I’ve had a couple as well absolutely reliable.
I’m torn, the car looks sweet and I have no doubt it handles great however, with it being a flood car and you already had some high dollar repairs on, who knows what can happen in the future. I love this channel you guys have 9 lives

JR Garage, Great video!
Glad you liked it!!
Sell it asap. The diff and steering rack will fail! Be warned! Love the video.

It's a fun car to drive, stay for at least a year then sell. :) Thanks for the video I enjoyed it.
Where do you sell your vehicles?
Keep the videos coming !!!
KEEP IT! ITS A BEAUTY!

Don't seel right away. Drive it for atleast a 1000 miles and see how you like it. If it still runs it's solid and you make up your mind then. Also you have a bit of fun back. They should be nice to drive so keep it for a while.
Enjoy the car. It's gorgeous.
You win some and you lose some.. for the haters is their win.. but keep up with the good work
Why do people comment on the parts being from a dart? The darts been discontinued since 2016, it might share a lot from Chrysler but that’s with all cars with the 8.4 and switches it’s the brand stuff not just the dart
I'll probably buy a pre-owned Audi TT next summer. I need some adventure in my driving.
When will you make a new flight video with the Cessna Citation? Also, what happened to the Abandoned Gulfstream GIII? Additionally, how do you make all of the money to buy these cars and even planes? I don't know how much the Cessna Citation costed, but I am curious.
What is website to see what’s available?

Love seeing the 914s.
Did you not mark trans to engine to keep it together or lined up? I'd say scrap piece by piece
bro said nvr buy a FLOODED EXOTIC car from a SALVAGED auction 😂 phew I was abt to buy one tm thx for letting me know
Keep it its awesome and it runs
Hell to that, id of thrown in the considerably better ZF 8HP in it, Turbo Lamik and an adapter plate and this car would finally be the car it should of been!
Should have done an aftermarket manual transmission swap.
What happened to the Benz Legit Street Cars helped you with?
keep it, enjoy it. i mean wtf else you gonna do with it other than sell it and be painfully aware of how much you are losing on it. plus even if you did sell it, you can make the replaced engine and trans a selling point to the buyer, the two most important and expensive items any buyer of a used car fears the most. plus, admit it, you look good behind the wheel of this beast and hardly anyone else owns one. it is unique.
What about the place that does ls motor conversions? Couldn't they make it an ls motor and tranny?
Beautiful car....KEEP IT!!!!
The C5 Corvette had 328500 miles?
Keep it, enjoy it, you are at new value now and just get your mojo back for it.
So why you dont change fluids, cant understand
