    I attended "XP Up in Smoke", which is a three day skydiving event at Skydive Paraclete XP in Raeford, NC during the Labor Day weekend.
    The goal was to bring together really great freeflyers, and perform amazing jumps while wearing smoke grenades. However, stormy weather arrived after we had only made a few jumps on day one, and day two had very poor weather leaving us to be grounded yet again. We hoped that day three, our last possible day to jump during the event, would have fantastic weather that morning. Sadly, we sat at the dropzone staring at grey skies yet again. However, many of us sat determined to see it through to the end, and as afternoon approached, we saw the sun break free of the clouds and we could finally play in the sky.
    Although mother nature had not been kind the past few days, the past rainy weather actually provided us with a beautiful backdrop of clouds. We strapped on our colored smoke grenades and ascended above the clouds with a mission to paint the sky. And on this day I had some of the most beautiful and memorable jumps of my life, and I wanted to share my POV with you. Please enjoy!

    I watched this video before my very first jump (I went straight to AFF 1, no tandem!) in November. It inspired me and gave me the confidence to make the first jump. I'm now about to make my 100th jump this weekend and this video still continues to inspire me to push my limits and to keep striving to improve. Thank you for the inspiration that helped me find my passion, blue skies!

In the skydiving world, I'm actually pretty average skill-wise, but surround yourself with good, fun skydivers, and you'll definitely see some awesome things in the sky. Just make sure you develop a good foundation in skydiving safety once you get into it, so you can participate in the sport for years to come. Hope to see you in the sky one day as well! Take care!

    The girl seems to be holding some sort of chain at 1:54. When the other guy comes up at 1:56 to grab your hands, you two drop it. is there any meaning behind that chain? a ritual? Looking forward for "why I skydive part 2 HD" :)
    Edit: just realized the girl was holding the chain to trigger the smoke flare and she pulled it before the other guy grabbed her hand.
    Still looking forward for "why I skydive part 2 HD"

    Hey Dexter, which kind of smoke grenades are you using for this jump? Can you give me some recommendations?

    • @Dexter-zl1me
      @Dexter-zl1me  9 лет назад

      +skymawi We used the Enola Gaye EG18 smoke grenades and some military grade smoke grenades on these jumps. Military grade smoke is really thick and really showed up well on video, the Enola Gaye grenades required two to be worn because their smoke output was a lot thinner in comparison. The Enola Gaye grenades are a lot more forgiving to your gear though.

    Awesome video! I can't wait to get into freeflying. It always looks like so much fun. If I could ask, how much experience do you think a skydiver should have before looking for freefly coaching?

    • @Dexter-zl1me
      @Dexter-zl1me  9 лет назад +1

      +Patrick Arocha Make sure you are pretty good at belly, then follow the usual progress: backfly, sitfly then head down. It takes a little longer, but you'll be a much stronger flyer. Also, if you can, just learn this all in the windtunnel if possible. Learning in the sky was wasteful for me because I never really progressed up there, but the windtunnel did wonders for me and prevented bad habits from forming.

    • @aguynamedme7760
      @aguynamedme7760 9 лет назад +1

      +Dexter Marcelino Sounds good! I'm still working those belly skills, but I'm planning on going in that direction. Right now, I'm really starting to get a grip on flying my legs even off the hill. Either way, thanks for the response. Hope I get to fly with you one day.

    nice vid, but besides, what does the guy throw away at the exit at 1:27 ? looks like he liberated his main ?

    • @Dexter-zl1me
      @Dexter-zl1me  8 лет назад

      +Christian Tassler The smoke grenades are attached to our ankles using brackets, so we tied cords around the grenade pins so we could ignite the grenades as we left the plane without bending down. He's just throwing that cord away.

    • @Dexter-zl1me
      @Dexter-zl1me  9 лет назад +1

      +Jonas De Roover (JonasDR) You can probably do an AFF program that starts out with tandem progression the first few jumps. That way you can work up to jumping alone and won't feel overwhelmed by all the things you will need to keep in mind as you learn to skydive safely. Definitely ask your question to the dropzones in your area to see if they can accomodate your concern.

    • @ahemhimynameis
      @ahemhimynameis 8 лет назад

      @Dexter-zl1me  8 лет назад

      +ahemhimynameis My dropzone was only open to us on the weekends, so it was more like 10 to 11 per day on Sat/Sun during the summer. In the winter, it was a lot less per jump day.
