    Ah, finally, a PH reviewer that isn't screaming in my ear or using too many sound effects.
    Just ordered one because of your review and I'm looking forward to using it.
    Good thing I have sheets of different thermal pad thickness on hand so I will be able to cover my 970 evo plus all the way.
    Thanks and subscribed!

    Disappointed the thermal pad does not make proper contact with the enclosure. When you were sliding the top plate off and the pad still looking new and not smooshed or any kind of distortion is evidence of that.

    It's likely your NVMe is so slow because you either need a firmware update, or you need to provision the drive for TRIM support. Most enclosures support TRIM, but not out of the box. It has to be enabled.

    • @eladbari
      @eladbari 2 года назад +1

      How can TRIM be enabled on an enclosure? These have no firmware or any way of managing their "settings".
      Also, how can you even know which Chipset is inside the enclosure? This type of information is not available so easily. You gotta contact the manufacturer or ask in forums (in case you wanna know indeed this Realtek-RTL9210 is in there).

    • @liquidmobius
      @liquidmobius 2 года назад

      @@eladbari TRIM is a feature of the drive. All of that info is usually found in the description when you purchase a drive.

      It's slow because it's getting bottlenecked by the maximum speed of USB 3.2 gen 2 port + reliability of the USB cable itself

    I have nearly the same one, the system to retain the SSD to the board is just a weird knob that is very hard to install and falls off easily. I also had to upgrade the firmware to get TRIM support. My SSD has a tiny heatspreader on top as well and that made the thermal pad too tight for my liking so I instead used a blob of thermal paste, it doesn't spread but it does make contact between the heatspreader and the heatsink in the enclosure and the temperatures are absolutely incredible (when installed on my desktop I regularly saw up to 80C, on the enclosure the max I have seen is 46C)

    Well I bought one of these enclosures and found that a brand new 1TB Crucial NVMe drive was an extremely tight fit. No whether it was me having to use some force to get the drive inserted or not the drive got extremely hot when plugged into a USB3.0 port on my Ivy Bridge build an am wondering what has got so hot.

      nvme usually heats up so you need proper airflow or some sort of cooling

    • @earlmalaki

      i haven't had any heat-related problems so far. the aluminum top plate + thermal pad does enough for my use case. it varies on the SSD and use case. sustained very large read/write will generate more heat than sporadic read/write
