Regarding EV recharging costs. Just today, around noon, an EV charging station company that had over 10,000 charging stations has filed for bankruptcy. So, in the space of just a few hours, it went from a company with 10,000(+) charging stations to a company with -0- charging stations.
My Cybertruck's build quality is just fine - there are many, many more recalls on Ford, GM and Ram trucks. Maybe charging on Superchargers is equivalent to gas in some places but 99% of charging occurs at home overnight on reduced rates. I'm paying about 1/8th of what it costs an ICE truck to go a mile. That said in last weeks snow outages in Colorado I plugged some extension cords into my Cybertruck and ran them into the house to power my coffeemaker, my on demand hot water heater, my cellphone chargers, etc. Did that for 24 hours. You have an accident and the vehicle is not repairable due to materials used to manufacture it. Insurance pays out $80,000-$90,000 to total it. They salvage it and get back $20,000. Total you paid out as the insured $10,500 (incl your $500 deductible) total insurance company profited $30,500 total insurance company paid out $90,000. Insurance company loss off of that one claim -$59,500. These numbers are just an example but they give you an idea of how a total loss works.

I guess EVs are why home insurance went up too right? Not like inflation had anything to with everything costing more. Definitely only and solely a small percentage of vehicles.
When I first heard "stainless-steel EXOSKELETON" in the Cybertruck's description, I knew repairs on this vehicle would be an absolute nightmare. Liability, and serviceability were definitely kicked down the hall when this vehicle was conceived.
True story. I was having a conversation with an older couple and they told me that their son purchased a 6 figure LUCID large car. Long story short, he damaged the front bumper and the car stayed at the shop at lucid for 2 month and had a bill of $30,000.
Because Lucid is a luxury car, kind of like Rolls Royce. It was designed by the same group that designed the first Tesla vehicles. The team head decided to build a perfect EV for rich people, with every material the best available no matter the cost. He took his Tesla team with him when he left Tesla to start his dream car EV company called Lucid.
Oh god, someone is going to stretch Cybertrucks and hire them out as limousines to people going to proms, bachelor and bachelorette parties as wedding cars and so on, aren't they ?
This thing is hideous , I can’t believe people were lining up for a wait list 4 years ago ,yuk..if someone gave me this I would immediately put it up for sale and buy a real truck..
GREAT VIDEO!!! People don't realize what actually goes into repairing these modern day vehicles. Just for perspective, headlamps range from $1000-$6000 EACH, a grille can run $800-$3000 and a bumper cover $1000-$3000. Not to mention another $2500-$5000 in calibrations for the safety systems. So a low-speed fender bender can easily cost $15,000.00. Compare that to 10 years ago when that same damage would cost $2500-$3500.00.
Big auto companies as part of design & production set up accident repair procedures and inventories of parts (all freely available to all body repair shops). Tesla and other EV companies cut these steps out, which is what we are seeing insurance companies reacting to.
In most states that I am aware of; an insurance company cannot simply keep a car forever. If they cannot get it fixed within a certain amount of time then they must total it. This was a real problem for regular cars during the pandemic as well. I can't believe anybody's buying a Rivian, that company is on extremely borrowed time. And the fact that their cars are put together by amateurs is just icing on the cake. Anyway, all those totaled cars go along way towards explaining why insurance costs are what they are
@@buddahkz9980 Think if it's undrivable and taking up body shop space waiting for parts or sitting in a lot for months (real estate). That's why insurance companies would rather total it than sit and wait for parts. Tesla supply chains and other EV startups sound like complete shit (at least for replacement parts), that's why parts take so long.
@@panama_juan yeah I get you, I was wondering about why Tesla and other EVs were getting totaled out so much. Once you bring up supply chain, taking up space waiting for a part and sharp depreciation it makes sense why they do it.
Insurers are also getting tired of paying for rentals for months while repair parts trickle into bodyshops from Tesla. We had a Model X total out because the inner quarters didn't show for eight months.
EVs consist of two separate depreciating assets. One is the vehicle. Two is the battery. In a normal ICE vehicle the gas tank is not a depreciating asset. Simple math

The second company I called didn't even ask for my information after giving my name and address. She said well I can lower your rate by a couple hundred dollars. It would be a smart move for tesla to offer insurance. With a correct procedure all the wrecked vehicles can be broke down and parted out to fill the repair market
Tesla's argument is active safety, ie they don't need repairs because they are so good at avoiding them. Just like how GM said their cars were safer because they were harder to steal.
My buddy owns a landscaping business, and he bought a rivian for use in the business. I thought he was crazy. Geico has canceled policies in New York on the cybertruck, because the insurance underwriters say its to expensive which it is. Other insurance companies in NY never insured cyber trucks. Good, why should everyone else have to pick up the cost of these things. Ev’s shouldn’t be bigger than the Nissan Leaf because of the weight.
So far my 3.5 year old Tesla Model Y is still being insured as a normal car. 2 years back someone rear ended me tapped the lift gate and it cost $800 to pull the dent and paint. As far as weight the model Y is the same as small SUVs 4,400 lbs.

Another EV cost that I didn’t hear you mention is an added tax. For example Texas is now leveling an additional tax for EVs because they are not paying their share of road costs with people paying gas tax. That’s just another factor to further support what you’re saying.
I suspected as much about Tesla and the likelihood that everyone's vehicle insurance has gone up because of collision write-offs. I'm supportive of the concept of alternative ways of propelling a moving vehicle. Why do they have to reinvent body panel applications and simple storage of a battery? Doesn't make much sense. I'm glad I still have my 2012 Cadillac Sportwagon. Being retired, I only drive about 3,000 klm or 1,500 miles on it per year.
Resale value is exactly why I haven’t switch to ev; I traded in my 2016 4 runner with over 100,000 miles for a bigger sequía about 2 years ago and I got 25,000 for it when I paid 40,000; until they do something about those batteries I’m not getting an ev
Think about how bad the costs and depreciation would be, for owners, if governments weren't subsidizing and enabling EV development, production and charging at the coerced/forced expense of non-buyers.

I really don’t think that anybody who spends between 100,000 and $200,000 on a car like the cyber truck is tremendously worried about resale value. The mere fact that they were willing to spend that kind of money on an electric vehicle in the first place tells you that they probably have enough money that resale value doesn’t worry them. I don't think the weight increases the insurance cost. Out of all my vehicles, my Wrangler 4 door is the heaviest. My annual full coverage with high liability? $325 a YEAR. Tesla is famous for refusing to sell parts to anyone but Tesla repair centers and Tesla approved body shops. One reason for totals is that Tesla approved body shops are way backed up. So repair will exceed the max time the insurance company will allow, so they total it. That used to be the thing with Lotus Elise/Exige. Get a minor front or rear crash and a new "clam" was required. Lotus required full replacement. Backup for these from England was over 6 months. Then time to repair. Nope. Totaled.

Tesla parts supply chain is probably the worst in the industry.
It's because unlike your Ram, Tesla sells every car they make and thus has to divert precious parts to keep up collision parts. Every Ford, GM and Stellantis dealer has hundreds and hundreds sitting on their lots that they could easily part out because most dealers still have 2023 models on their lots.

The fact that the cyber truck isn’t sold in Europe should tell you all you need to know about

You purchase a cyber truck for $100,000, you pay premiums of $5000/yr, you own it for 2 years so you have paid insurance $10,000 in premiums. I guess EVs are why home insurance went up too right? Not like inflation had anything to with everything costing more. Definitely only and solely a small percentage of vehicles.
This entire country is a scam now. They want us to own nothing. And automation, AI and robots are coming. buckle up boys.
The cyber vehicle is so ugly 😂I wouldn’t drive one for free.

Tesla and other EV companies cut these steps out, which is what we are seeing insurance companies reacting to.

well no shit that’s like apple letting everyone jail break their iPhone and still trade it in for a new iPhone 😅

Yes it's called being in business. High risk means high premium
It is allowing capitalism to attain monopoly status, which we have just given ourselves another upcoming dose of. The end goal of any capitalist is to gain monopoly, so prices can be raised and government regulation bought. A few years back in WA State Liberty raised my rates for no reason, so I decided to check for a cheaper insurance company. The second company I called didn't even ask for my information after giving my name and address. She said well I can lower your rate by a couple hundred dollars. I asked how she could do that without knowing more about me. It turns out that 12 car insurance companies, including all major names, were all owned by the same holding company and owners. So all had my data and all knew exactly what their other named business cohorts were going to quote. Such as this is what I fear most with Trump and MAGA.

I added insurance to my CT two days ago from Geico in New York
Geico has canceled policies in New York on the cybertruck, because the insurance underwriters say its to expensive which it is. Other insurance companies in NY never insured cyber trucks. Im not an EV hater, but that's some funny shit.
Another EV cost that I didn’t hear you mention is an added tax. For example Texas is now leveling an additional tax for EVs because they are not paying their share of road costs with people paying gas tax. That’s just another factor to further support what you’re saying.
Would you say that hybrid cars are better for the environment since it would cause less waste?
Is it the same for the more established brands like Volvo, Audie, GM etc, or is it limited to the new brands?
I suspected as much about Tesla and the likelihood that everyone's vehicle insurance has gone up because of collision write-offs.
I'm supportive of the concept of alternative ways of propelling a moving vehicle. Why do they have to reinvent body panel applications and simple storage of a battery? Doesn't make much sense.
I'm glad I still have my 2012 Cadillac Sportwagon. Being retired, I only drive about 3,000 klm or 1,500 miles on it per year.
This sounds less like a problem with EVs in general, and more a problem with poorly engineered designs
So Tesla has problems. Why does this affect other electrical vehichles?
Tesla is now offering leases for CyberTruck’s, so I know the demand has gone way down.
Resale value is exactly why I haven’t switch to ev; I traded in my 2016 4 runner with over 100,000 miles for a bigger sequía about 2 years ago and I got 25,000 for it when I paid 40,000; until they do something about those batteries I’m not getting an ev

Geico stopped for sometime but started insuring again and the premium is much cheaper now!
On the upside if you were after some some large batteries with good wear levels second hand or scrapped EV's are ideal.
I would also think that in the years to come, the cyber truck may actually increase and value since I seriously doubt a vehicle like that will ever be built again.

I have a CT reservation, recently received an e-mail to configure non-foundation, however the CT is not currently listed on the IRS website (for the 7,500 credit).
At 72,500 I believe the CT is a good deal. Tesla may price drop it further to boost Q4 earnings 🤔.

Nope. Totaled.
