  • Matt's BMW 520d was starting to sag at the rear - it came down to leaking air suspension and we ended up needing a whole new set! Parts were ordered, so let's see if we can change them ourselves - If we can do it, anybody can.
    If you can see the potential, make sure to drop us a Sub! Much love!

    Hi guys, the reason why the bags didn’t inflate when you had the car in the air is the ride height sensors probably told the car the suspension was all the way up already, so lowering the car was the only way to get the pump to kick in.

    Thanks Gents, very helpful to see you work through it.
    I made a mistake and reconnected the air lines before I lowered the car and the compressor started up before I had positioned the bottom of the bag. I think the tailgate triggered it even without ignitiion switched on. Advice to people: DON'T DO THIS! This resulted in a bang (cracked hard plastic part). I recommend you disconnect power from the compressor. Fortunately I bought two bags at a good price and the left bag looks like a recent replacement so I did not change that.
    It really is tricky jacking this car and securing it on stands. If you think that brick would do anything other than tip over and explode into dust if the car fell on it, you should get extra life insurance :)

    That black bit that fell out for rear left was meant to sit on top of the new air suspension. Same happened to me when i replaced the rear left

    I have done this for my F11 twice and have Ista diagnostic tool for "proper deflating". But it is useless: There will be residual pressure even I made Ista-D deflating process 6 times. I even jacked up suspension while deflating, but not all pressure came out. Propably valve block or compressor purge valve has some resistanse.
    Only way to get all air out is to disconnect hose from valve block like in this video. Don't waste you time for deflating with diagnostic tool. But offcourse if old bag is leaking, you can deflate it drilling hole to it or using sharp knife :D Good video!

    Hi, what do you think about 2.0d 135kw ? Is it reliable after changing timing chains ? Is it better than 3.0d 150/180kw for daily use ,most in the city ? Because i heard that 530d rod bearing can fail and the engine will cost ,,millions,, ... and the 2.0d if fails to the bottom itll be like 3x cheaper to fix?

    Hiya. Thanks for the really helpful video. I have a 2013 530d F11 and it’s dragging its backside along too. Compressor is fine so I’m going to change the airbags. Like yours, my car sat around for months and months during lockdown. Quick question about the airbags - why did you pick the ones you used? You can buy them at almost any price it seems. I have found the ones you used online at about £300/pr with good reviews. Did someone recommend them to you? Cheers.

      Hi mate, worth doing the soapy water test on the bags but sounds like the same issue. Bags chosen on reviews and price really! Slightly different fit on top with the plastic casing but absolutely no issues fitting. 100% remove the wheels first otherwise it would be a pig of a job.

    • @byeck63
      @byeck63 Год назад +2

      @@RODEBLOCTV will definitely take the tyres off!. How do you do the soap test? Presumably it's with the tyres on and lowered, because if you jack it up then the level sensors switch off the compressor. Cheers.

      @@byeck63 this is a handy guide mate, effectively spray soapy water onto the inflated bag and see if you get any bubbles.

    New subscriber here. I’m from California, USA and just got my car a year ago. I am wondered what tool kit do you recommend for this kind of job? I already purchased the bags and they get here in two weeks! My left rear is pretty bad and my car does not run smooth due to that side being extremely low. Would you recommend not to drive it often until they are replaced?

    • @paulwatts1704
      @paulwatts1704 4 месяца назад

      For anyone else in this situation its definitely best not to drive the car unless to get it home. Braking / handling impacted and your insurance may not pay out if in an accident and they spot the issue..

    I have a BMW 518D ... the driver side on rear is sometimes lower. When i turn the car on and leave it on for 1 min or so it pumps itself up from the rear driver side. What could i possibly do to fix it ?

    • @RODEBLOCTV
      @RODEBLOCTV  Год назад

      Hi there! So this is how the issue started for us. Every now and again it did that on one side and then eventually both. So more than likely at this stage, it’s a small leak on the driver side rear bag. You’ll still probably get a good while out of it yet but you may be best swapping it sooner rather than later before it puts more pressure on the passenger side. If you want any more info just let us know!

    Mines showing chassi fault error and leak on one side, did yours come up with any fault message ? Thanks mate

    • @RODEBLOCTV
      @RODEBLOCTV  Год назад +1

      We didn’t get any fault messages or codes. Could be worth getting an OBD reader or taking it to a garage to double check. If not then try the bag swap and then clear the faults.

    Ive had the exact same issue as you guys and just replaced them. But when i checked my bags the left one had that black plastic adapter plate the right one didn't, just like yours i'd guess they were replaced previously? Now i don't know how yours were but my replacements both came with that adapter. In the end i left it off on the RHS and installed it on the LHS (like you did and like it came) but does anyone have an idea what those black adapter rings are for?
