"some people are saying Blackpink are the biggest band on Earth" This is arguably true. It's even more amazing because only a few years ago people were still saying that kpop girl groups could never reach such a level of success internationally. And here we are.
here’s a thought to consider: would they be as famous as they are now, if internet didn’t exist? It goes for many creatours these days, not only for them.
Hip hop is Blackpink’s core DNA. Teddy, their main producer and basically older brother figure to them, is a hardcore hip hop head and artist from back in the day. He was a member of a Korean hip hop group from the 90s to mid 2000s called 1TYM. He’s very responsible for their sound, general feeling, and attitude. The girls dont get many writing credits per se, but from what I can tell they have a lot of involvement in the collaborative process from start to finish. Like, they’re not just given songs/lyrics/outfits/choreo and told what to do. There’s a lot of input and back and forth before the final product is made.
Nah, JENNIE is dope af! She talking her isshhhhh up and down! (JENNIE is the girly with the red Chanel hat/bedazzled tank/black bathtub rapping her heart out).
The girl in black dress shirt rapping her name is jennie kim She’s the main rapper and the lead vocalist of the group She’s so talented She does write and compose songs and they are credit as creative directors in this album
It’s taken just four years for Blackpink to become one of the biggest girl bands in the world, with members Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa continuing to smash new records and forge new ground. They were the first K-pop girl group to play at Coachella and to reach 1bn RUclips views - now they’re the most-subscribed-to music group on the platform - as well as being the first girl group from any country to feature on Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list. They keep to broke the world record. Blackpink second time world tour is coming.
On the album now, they are actually Creative Directors along with their lead producers. They work a lot on their music to perfect the parts they get written for them. One thing I like about kpop is the openness about who is involved.
Jennie was initially set to be the leader of pinkpunk(what BlackPink was supposed to be named) she made the decision to step down because of what happened with their senior group 2NE1 (legal issues involving banned medication used by one member, which put the group on an indefinite hiatus and eventually they disbanded). Jennie didn’t want to make any wrong decisions and jeopardize the group’s future, so as a preventative measure, she decided to forfeit taking the group leader position. The 4 of them run the show together, however, they entrust Jennie with most of the organizational stuff and important decision making, she speaks for the group to the higher ups, and guides the girls regarding their singing, and dancing (in their trainee days) even personal matters and finances. If you’re interested to learn more about the group’s dynamic, watch their documentary on Netflix, it sheds a tiny light about how they function.
If you wanna know more about them: Light Up The Sky (Netflix). Perfect introduction into Blackpink and K-Pop. Also great Patreon content. After that Blackpink House, Blackpink Diaries and 24/365 with Blackpink. Of course there are also great fanmade guides about Blackpink but nothing comes even close to their official documentation Light Up The Sky on Netflix. Should be your highest priority
their company is known for being the one that introduced hiphop in mainstream music in korea back in the day, with groups like bigbang, so ever since they debuted they have always had an hiphop sound, they're just giving it more and more space. also no leader or main girl, they're jisoo, jennie, rose and lisa. jennie and lisa are the two that usually rap more but all four can rap and sing. they are currently the biggest girl group in the world, yes (billboar, the recording academy and rolling stones back it up.) they're continously setting new records for girl groups, for kpop acts and for artists in general (they're the most subscribed artist on youtube ever with more than 80 million subs among other things) if you want to know more about them and kpop you can watch their documentary on netflix, light up the sky, it's a great start.
In kpop terms. Jennie (the girl with red hat)= main rapper Lisa (the one with the dog) = lead rapper Rose (green mink coat) = main vocal Jisoo (Ms.Korea) = GOAT Visual, Lead vocal
The 4 of them sing with each other to form this touching song! They were born to be together to be the strongest girl group in the world 💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻🥰❗️🥰👏🏻👏🏻
I think they are coming to Atl on their world tour. Teddy is their in house producer, i know they help write on some tracks, you should check out "Typa Girl", but the album they just dropped covers multiple genres and it's fire.
Blackpink comes from a company called YG which is known in kpop to lean heavily towards hip hop/rap. Since their debut they've been working with Teddy Park as their main producer. He's grew up in California in the 90's so he's very influenced by american rap and hip hop and he certainly brought that into the group. He also had a very successful career as a kpop artist and a rapper himself. He really helped shape Blackpink into whom they are now and with time the girls have become more and more involved with the creative process of the group.
also they were the creative directors of this album, with their main producer teddy (also known as their fifth member). they do participate in the whole process of songwriting and producing, to different extents and not always credited but they do, always with their main producer and other in house producers of their company. as they do when it comes to their choreographies.
Speaking of collabs since Smokey's shirt reminded me, I cannot wait to hear the Cradle of Filth and Ed Sheeran song whenever it gets released. Blackpink is great and I'm glad you guys reacted to Pink Venom since I had never heard of them before.
They are doing a concert in Atlanta on Nov 02 at State Farm Arena. Goodluck if there are still tickets 😅 many reactors complain on not getting tickets and their company already added many days for their north america and europe tours
You are absolutely right when you talk about the inclusion of hip hop in the music of BLACKPINK, but this is a characterizing side not only for them but in general for the artists of YG.From the beginning YG wanted to give this hip hop imprint to the scene kpop bringing to life iconic groups like BIGBANG,EPIK HIGH and 2NE1 and then continuing with BLACKPINK which also had a more global impact!
Di you have the subtitles on ? This is a song for the haters. All the scenes are call backs to their old MVs but upgraded versions (e.g. the bedazzled tank in DDu Du DDU DU was a Russian tank. This one is American.) They are not only shutting down the haters and imitators, but they are shutting down their old videos and music in the garages and then going up the elevator to a new level.
Blink in the house. Please watch blackpink documentary and it will give you an insight of blackpink and how they became the biggest girl group in the world. This album is for all the heaters that keep talking smack about the girls.
Everyone needs to read the Rolling Stone article on Blackpink in the June issue. Teddy Park gives them the basic song with theme lyrics. They then fill out the lyrics, determining what's in Korean and what's in English plus the arrangements. They have done this since their trainee days. In general the rap lines are written by Jennie and Lisa. Not sure how the tasks are divided among the 4, but Rose' said on the Zach Sang interview it was Jennie and Lisa mainly on the lyrics.
BLACKPINK debuted under YG company which is a HIPHOP company so it's in their DNA, you can check another artist from YG such as G-DRAGON, TOP, MINO, BOBBY, EPIK HIGH etc and they all FIRE
TEDDY is their producer. He used to be in a hip hop group called 1TYM (“One Time”) in late the 90’s to mid 2000’s. He brings a lot of the old school influences. Check out 1TYM’s video “Hot”. Thanks
I think the only thing I know that hasn’t already been mentioned is that Jennie is in The Weeknd’s new show on HBO, The Idol 🖤 (You should do more of The Weeknd too 😊🖤)
Yg actually doesn't let them write their own lyrics much. They do have writing credits on some of the their songs but yg has been known to not credit the girls. Jennie (the first girl to rap) main rapper, lead vocal, center and face of the group - one who fits the image best. Lisa is the main dancer and lead rapper. Jisoo is lead vocal and visual (fits the Korean beauty standards the best) Rosé is the main vocalist and lead dancer
Y'all should check out Typa Girl off the new album, Born Pink. It doesn't have an m/v, so check out one of the lyric videos. Those are helpful when you're fairly new to the group because they highlight the person who is currently singing/rapping.
The biggest band.. maybe. Their main competitor is BTS. But biggest female band, YES! There are many articles such as Vogue claiming this and their views and sales only support that.
Since yall haven't seen any of their past videos, you wouldn't get it, BUT in this m/v they are paying homage to several of their older songs/m/vs. Once yall watch the others, you will get even more reason why this is such a banger!!!
You should watch “ddu du ddu du” live at Coachella.. they were the first Korean group to headline Coachella ever!!! Also “mic drop” by BTS .. who are the two biggest groups in the world and two of my favorites!!!
I don't know if y'all know, you can turn on the captions. They write a lot of the lyrics. And you will love Typq Girl!! It's all rap. If you are looking of something different from then listen to The Happiest Girl.

That being said, over the years the lines have been blurred in regard to their positions. Although Jennie's official position is Main Rapper and Lisa's is Lead Rapper, Lisa has become the more popular rapper in the last few years and Jennie has been singing more. Some suggestions for more K-Pop/hip hop leaning goodies, if you haven't checked them out: Agust D - Daechwita, BTS - Cypher 1-4, RM- Joke, Stray Kids- God's Menu and Thunderous, J-Hope -Arson, Epik High - Acceptance Speech, G-Dragon & Taeyang - Good Boy... just to start. K-Pop and K-Hip Hop is where my playlists have been living for the last year. There is so much talent and creativity... love it.
Stray kids produces their own music and many of them are rappers. They are my fave kpop group. U should def check em out. Some suggestions 😊: ”Gods menu” ”Thounderous” ”Easy” ”Freeze” ”Charmer” ”Domino” ”Muddy water” ”victory song”
I have noticed recently RUclips reactors showing such disrespect to Kpop artists by their delusional mindset of trying to "reach out" to them to collaborate on music or business projects, or to just go hang out with them at a cafe for coffee like they're best friends. WHAT???!!! These same RUclips reactors would NEVER, EVER make these same crazy statements to a Taylor Swift or Beyonce or Katy Perry or Drake or Justin Bieber. The top tier Kpop artists like BTS, Blackpink, Twice, EXO, BigBang, IU, etc. are in every ways on the same level of celebrity status as their Western counterparts. Just because they are Asian so often ignored by Western media does not mean they are more "attainable".
There is no leader of the group, although all the girls look up to Jisoo who's like the mom/older sister of the group. Jisoo is the member with the deep voice/girl with umbrella.
Title tracks Pink venom n Shut down are just Dessert bro . Main course are the B-sides . Typa girl, the happiest girl, tally n hard to love are better in my opinion which are in full English. Please please to them in one video. I did not put yeah yeah yeah cause it's mostly in Korean but it's fire too. Bornpink album is a total banger through n through.
I know some people have explained the girls names and "positions" in the group but here are the timestamps to match the faces: 6:16 Jennie 6:28 Lisa 6:41 Jisoo (like geee sue) 6:47 Rose (like the alcoholic beverage, my keyboard doesn't do an accent)
Check-out 2NE1 and CL! CL was a member in 2NE1, YGs OG girl group, also does rap! -I am the best (2NE1) -Fire (2NE1) - Hello Bitches (CL) -Baddest Female (CL) -Lifted (CL) ...just to start!
At this level, it's too big for just them to write songs. There are whole teams worldwide working on one track at a time. 4 of the girls always get involved in the productions and sometimes they influence it enough to be credited.
"some people are saying Blackpink are the biggest band on Earth" This is arguably true. It's even more amazing because only a few years ago people were still saying that kpop girl groups could never reach such a level of success internationally. And here we are.

Ok guys, here's a "mini lesson" on "positions" in a K-Pop group, the terminology is different from the West, where the best person in a group is called LEAD.
In K-Pop each member has their official "positions", which means their specific strengths in the group as assigned by their company.. Positions are ranked MAIN (most skilled), LEAD (also skilled) and SUB (skilled). Here are BLACKPINK's positions according to YG at the time of their debut:
JENNIE: MAIN RAPPER, LEAD VOCAL
JISOO: LEAD VOCAL, VISUAL
ROSÉ: MAIN VOCAL, LEAD DANCER
LISA: MAIN DANCER, LEAD RAPPER, SUB VOCAL, MAKNAE
In addition there are two other positions called VISUAL and MAKNAE.
MAKNAE means "youngest" and is assigned to the youngest member.
VISUAL is a little tricky. It is assigned to the most aesthetically pleasing member according to Korean beauty standards. Koreans value beauty greatly, and place importance on specific features that are considered beautiful in Korea. High cheekbones, skin tone, hair color and style are all important, and the position VISUAL means that the person is the closest to a "Classically Korean Beauty".
*note* There is another position called LEADER but BLACKPINK doesn't have one, which is unusual for a group. They trained together so long and treated each other like friends (sisters, really) that they felt no need to have a leader.
