Linux can be installed easily on any drive, even a thumbdrive, without having to erase any other OS you may have. When you install it, you will be presented with a Grub or Lilo bootloader. It will ask you which system you'd like to boot. If you installed Linux on a flash drive, just pull it out and everything will be back to how it was before.

Before you waste your time and energy on all of that:
      1. do a run down on all the apps and activities you currently do on Windows
      2. look for alternative apps in Linux World
      3. There's a chance that that other app's creators already make a version of that app for windows
      4. Install them on Windows and follow YT tutorial videos to master them
      5. Then find a "newbie friendly" version of Linux to reinstall those apps on
Note: Linux isn't One Thing - it's mostly made up of 6 separate lines (you could almost liken them to 6 separate religions): Redhat (Fedora is based on this one), Debian (Ubuntu is based on this one), Suse, Slackware, Arch & Gentoo. You want "Newbie Friendly" versions (distros) based on those. Those in their original "master distro" form are way too overwhelming for noobs to handle. There are also some new distinct distros that come and go - but none of them have been around as long as these 6 separate lines. Two items are what make these six separate from each other - each of them (under the hood) has the same "software repositories" and "package manager" app - with its own unique commands to get things done - in essence, six different languages.
And way high on the mountain top, above the clouds sits the great "Linux Foundation" - constantly cranking out -the next version of the core of the OS (called the "kernel"). It's raw and not ready for primetime. The distro makers (like the big 6 mentioned above) take that, make it their own thing and release that to the general public. "Take this brother and my it serve you well"

Just asking about something else. A classic rumor is to use Linux to give new life to old computers. But quite a few tech youtubers have tested and pointed out that this is false and doesn't give better performance. I wonder how.
Since Windows takes over 64 GB, I don't even know if that includes all the bloatware. And the amount of background applications running at the same time, looking at the task manager.
Then with a distro being as small as 4GB and not having nearly as many applications to run everything.
Then shouldn't a Linux distro technically run better? Since it should leave more processing and memory for your active applications?
Or is that extra processing and RAM just compensating for the lack of native support of hardware and software to Linux. Making it even with Windows in many cases.

If some entity would offer 24/7 paid support for certain Linux Distros, there would be literally millions of people moving to the platform.
If MS is smart they would offer a version TOTALLY FREE OF AI and RECALL.

@@ddduxI remember an analogy in a piece from 1999, that used tanks in this metaphor. It described OS marketshare as an intersection on which are two car dealerships... and an empty lot, with a bunch of sheds and tents erected, and people building tanks.
The author, as an observer in this situation, describes a typical day at this place. People who need a car come here to buy one. One of the dealerships sells family sedans. Not flashy but they get the job done, they look okay, and if you need a vehicle for your whole family, these are a great choice. The other dealership sells flashy sports cars. They're overpriced and unrepairable, but they look flashy and polished and manage to hit far less road obstruction than the sedans, and people see them as a status symbol and the choice of anyone who actually needs their car to do heavy driving. Most people who come here never even notice the tanks. Of these, most of them buy a sedan. A few go into the sports car dealership and buy a fancy sports car. None ever notice the lot across the street where volunteers are building tanks and giving them away for free. Every now and then, someone who clearly knows what they're doing shows up, goes straight to the tank lot, and takes a tank.
Sometimes, the tank builders try to convince someone here to buy a sedan, to take a free tank instead. It goes a little like this.
"You know, you don't have to buy that sedan. These tanks run way better, they're free, the blueprints are available as well, you can customize them however you want, and if they break, you can get the tools to fix them."
"I don't know how to maintain a tank!"
"You don't know how to maintain that sedan either, and they're harder to fix because the tools and blueprints are proprietary and not available to anyone but the dealership."
"Yes, but if it breaks I can bring it here and pay the dealership to fix it."
"If the tank breaks, if it was our fault we'll fix it, and if it was your fault we'll supply tools and documentation to fix it yourself, all free of charge and not proprietary."
"You guys are weird. No one wants to use a tank on everyday roads for daily driving. I'm just going to buy the sedan, I learned to drive in one/OK, if the sedans suck so much, I'll buy one of the fancy sports cars."

Microsoft is a corporation that listens to no one but their shareholders. *fact* They don't care one iota about how you feel. They've been scr*wing their customers since XP and earlier. They know people are addicted to some apps that are Windows only. They know people aren't aware they could have everything they need in Linux. MS and their willing or unwilling shills spread misinformation about how Linux is hard to use and buggy. They need your money. And always more money. They will never stop needing more money and doing anything necessary to get it. And people will bend over. But albeit, MS market share used to linger around 85 percent, now it's 65. The result of releasing Windows 11. Most users went Mac way, though. Shame.

This is a cycle that's been on repeat for decades now; Microsoft fucks up majorly and the Linux community swings by to take advantage of this and try to convince people into joining their ranks. No, the vast majority of users still don't give a shit about privacy, as sad as it is, and Linux is still not production ready for home users and professionals outside the realm of headless, remote servers. Stop fearmongering and trying to intimidate people into switching Linux. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. It never did and the likelihood of it happening in the near future is also slim. When you use fear and intimidation to scare people away from Windows, they're going to loathe the Linux user base and the community around it, once -not if- their experience turns sour and they inevitably become frustrated with their computer and return to Windows, vowing never to switch to Linux again.
But what do I know. Go ahead, milk it until it reaches a boiling point that either MS realizes how stupid and haphazardly put-together this whole fuckery is and calls for a 'total recall' or we'll end up witnessing heretofore unseen leaks, corporate espionage, massive scam operations, scandals and much much more. I hope, for the sake of majority of end-users, that I am wrong and people will actually start looking for alternatives to Windows, or even better, donate to & invest in free desktop and Linux, not because they are forced to evacuate Windows at the behest of Microsoft and the company's mountain of retarded decisions, but because they care about the development and philosophy of free and open source software as a whole. Let's see what we see and where this goes, shall we?

  • @xEndless11
    @xEndless11 Месяц назад

Don't hold it against me, but the drama regarding the recall is getting more than just annoying. Why do use Win 11 if your demonize it so much, but at the same time trust your Android without admin rights and more spyware as Windows? 2. recall does not send a single data packet outside and therefore works offline. In addition, the function is not compulsory and can be deactivated. For the very paranoid among us, there is Windows Anti Spyware from O&O, which puts an end to the spyware once and for all. There are a thousand ways to make Windows 11 a Windows 10 again without all the telemetry and other stuff, you should just know what you're doing and not blindly trust every device you buy with Windows pre-installed.
