Very good, solid and fun video. Totally agree with your points, there should be more diverse nostalgia throwbacks, which in time will just serve to make all the games more interconnected - which is always a good thing imo.

The interconnected thing is a very good insight! I think that’s part of what I was really trying to say the entire time, but couldn’t exactly put it into words.

Just found your channel via that newer video, and you really have something here that is top-notch. How you don't get more views is astonishing. You have a very good sense of humour hinted in the video, and that adds to the blend of the good content you make. Great videos, man.

Another nice video from you! I'm liking your content! Interesting perspectives and thoughts being thrown up; I never really realized how often Mario 1 is referenced... it's crazy! But I personally was never bothered by it, as I felt Nintendo used to keep that in check and was never intrusive. I actually always enjoyed the references, personally... well, for the most part...
In my opinion, I feel this was predominantly a problem with Early/Mid 2010's Mario, starting with NSMBWii in 2009; I don't think it's the Mario 1 references, but this very conservative and risk averse mentality with handling the Mario franchise that was dominant in that time period.
Think back, what were those games like, including most of the spin-offs? With a few exceptions (like Mario Kart), almost every game had almost the same aesthetic; comedic and light-hearted tone, bright and friendly colors, that Mario 3/World inspired look, the same types of worlds and levels, very similar bosses, the same characters/type of characters, and the many past Mario references... it was insane; what happened to the rampant experimentation with the GameCube and Late 2000s Wii era? Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy, Sunshine, Mario Kart, Luigi's Mansion! It was majorly disappointing to stop seeing that experimentation in favor of this same-ish aesthetic and feel
I feel, once the Switch came out, Nintendo started to phase out this conservative mentality for Mario; it's not all gone, if Origami King is any indication (though, not as bad as Color Splash and Sticker Star), but we are starting to get more experimentation again, with Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 being the prime tellers that Nintendo is willing to do it, even if it means taking the old stuff and doing wild and crazy things with it. Hopefully Nintendo keeps the ball rolling with more experimental ideas again

I definitely agree with this and have touched on it a few times here and there. Unfortunately, that conservative approach was selling more units which was most likely why they took it. I am very glad they are starting to shy away from it. If I had to guess, it’s for the devs’ sake. I know designing the way they used would definitely drive me insane…

@@Chipss Aw man, you did... I was listening to your video while doing something else and didn't even catch those bits... but yeah, it was insane and was disappointing at best, even if I did like those games a lot
I am cool with Mario throwbacks as long as they're paired with that experimentation and energy, like with Odyssey or Sunshine, not when it's with something like New Super Mario Bros Wii

Compared to Green Hill Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog, World 1-1 is not often used a lot.

i would have to disagree on this point. smb1 is basically the entire backbone of nintendo, and is the definitive nintendo title. in a way, it is the default, the basis in which things are built upon. whats already good you dont need to fix, just think about how forgettable smb2 is, even if thats technically not a mario game. the original games themes are alluded back to so often because those are leitmotifs. the undertale/deltarune games do the exact same thing, and theyre hailed for the amazing soundtracks. is the treatment of smb1 overkill? probably. is it worth complaining about? meh, not when theres other issues
