  • This is my first time flying during a snow storm and it was kind of scary for me. The first minutes of take off was a little shaky.
At some point, because of Turbulence, I almost drop my camera. You can see part of deicing at Philadelphia. It's been a while since I don't upload any videos. After hurricane María in Puerto Rico I lost power and internet, and still without it.
    Thanks for watching.

I can relate to this video. My wife and I were flying from philly back to houston. Very similar day like this video. Our plane got de-iced and then there was a mechanical problem with the plane. Everyone stayed on board while they fixed the problem, then we had to get de-iced again! After almost 2hr delay we finally took off. The plane seemed to be struggling to climb, we were getting tossed around. There was complete silence, you could have heard a pin drop. We were praying to GOD to get us through this flight and we would never fly again, haha. Once we broke through the clouds, the sun was shinning. Flight attendants served complimentary drinks to every one.

I always wanted to fly to Orlando during a snow storm it probably seems really cool too. Hopefully when I take another trip to Disney world it will snow.

I can relate I'm not a frequent flyer & I remember years ago taking off from Buffalo to LA on Southwest. It was the end of February & the band I was in had to fly out to LA to headline a show at the Whiskey & then we drove to Vegas to open for a band there. Our guitarist never flew in the winter. He & our drummer were sitting behind myself & our singer. We're getting ready to taxi our guitarist looks out the window, they were de-icing the plane he goes Joe what are they doing I said that's just so the plane doesn't fall out of the sky....our singer gave me a dirty look then laughed because those guys were breathing real heavy lol. Good flight though. Little bumpy at the beginning but good after that. Nice in LA & Vegas.

Much more attention was paid to deicing, after the Air Florida Flight 90 - Potomac River Disaster (13 January 1982). As many times as I've departed from PHL, I never encountered their deicing operation (MSP and DTW are different stories, though). Did they have the deicing stations set up at the ramp(s), or nearer the taxiway (I couldn't determine that from the video).
A great video, by the way, thanks!

To be honest with you, it was not a snowstorm, just regular snowy. A snowstorm means it is like a blizzard, but a blizzard really is very messy snowy weather and possible somewhat dangerous than snowstorm because a blizzard contains white out that makes you not see things just like blind, heavy and strong wind drift and snowdrift, heavy snowfall, very chilly outside with around 15 degrees or below, and lots of inches of snowfall. How do I know? Because I am from Rochester, NY. If you are from the South like Florida, Puerto Rico, or wherever, I understand that you seemed to not used to that weather like the one in PHL. I’ve lived here in Washington, DC for years and many people called that weather in PHL a snowstorm even though they mentioned a blizzard and it made me laugh so hard. I explained to them the different between regular snow, snowstorm, and blizzard. When Obama’s 2 daughters went to their school in Washington, DC during their father’s 2 term presidency, the students said that it was a snowstorm and the girls laughed because they are from Chicago where snowstorms and blizzards hit there and explained the different between them. When their school was closed because of the weather just like the one in PHL shown above, the girls told their principal that it was not s snowstorm, just regular one because they are from Chicago and their school principal felt fool out of himself. So, next time Washington, DC had the same weather, all schools across the citywide were open, while schools in Maryland and Virginia near Washington, DC were open. Many school kids in Washington, DC complained. So, the school administration from Washington, DC notified when the snow was regular in Maryland and Virginia hit, their schools had to open. Many school kids in two states complained because they wanted their schools to be closed, but they were required to attend. I thought it was funny. Oh well….

On one flight from Montreal to London it was -20 outside when we boarded the plane and the "Super DC-10" had some technical issues. Someone stated they weren't happy at the airport, well I disagree, back in 99 I flew into Detroit regional I believe, as we started descending low I was like wtf is this? The houses were run down the buildings gutted and the airport looked more like a bowling ally, only one cheap cafe store. I swear I was going back In time to the 70's in the Bronx N.Y....never flew there again, opted for the main airport and it's a shame so much potential cause they can rebuild that city, if NYC did it, so can they.

    Edit: @2:21 That's Corona cough.
@25:30 is the best time after you are at the top of the top "top of the cloud" after plane finished going through the cloud, you can hear the captain ring the bill "Ding" mean hosts get busy serve passengers. At this moment I can let go of the seat arms and relax. It's a "Autopilot" cruising time.

If done correctly yes that yellow truck you saw was spraying de-icing fluid which is a heated chemical that keeps once from forming on the control surfaces of the aircraft. The 737-700/800 that SWA used also have anti-ice protection for the wings which basically uses the hot bleed air the engines produce to heat up the wings.

    • @nobaddaystravel6855
      @nobaddaystravel6855 4 года назад

They pilots also rely heavily on their instruments which allows them to safely fly in the low visibility weather. I have pics of the instruments they use but this page won’t let me post them.

What the hell are people thinking boarding a plane sick, coughing and sniffling. Get off the plane!

    • @heatherstub

I agree. I tried to prevent my Aunt Gloria from getting on a plane while sick with bronchitis. She refused to listen to me. People just don't think of others anymore. That bothers me. I remember when I had to fly to San Francisco, and I was recovering from bronchitis, and I couldn't cancel my trip, because it would have meant having to wait for another Guide Dog, which would have set me back several months, and I'd already taken the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) time off to go to Guide Dogs for the Blind to get Rosie. Fortunately, I managed to keep from coughing much, plus I wasn't contageous. A week later, I got pneumonia! I made it through, though, and I was able to fly home with the Pneumonia under control. Thank heavens.

Nice video. Been threw this at Salt Lake City international. Nothing scary about this flight. I have had lightning hit feet from a plane I was in. Bang that was not really scary.. Planes fly where no human should be anyway so expect the worse and you will get threw it ok.. There is a danger know matter what you do driving around is just as bad well worse then flying.. Living where Hurricanes hit is scary or earthquakes not flying threw clouds..

I would rather be on a plane even in those circumstances then drive around where I live in any kind of weather. Not a week goes by where there isn't a fatality, serious injuries, etc. Horrible traffic, horrible drivers. Last week there was a car that crossed the center line, hit another car and the driver was not only killed, but his car had been ripped in half. I'd take my chances in the plane.

@Stephen Receveur When I lived out West I loved driving in the snow in my trusty Subaru. You really learn how to work those gears. Now back East it is horrendous as with so much traffic it almost prevents driving correctly.
