kematirar well you usually feel less turbulence when you sit next to the wings and at the front, because it’s more balanced near the wings I guess, but I don’t know why for the front. You’ll also feel more turbulence sitting at the back. I’ve tried all three seats many times and I can assure you that sitting next to the wings lessens the turbulence.
This is why every passenger should congratulate these pilots every time when deplaning, for their skill and ability in taking them safely to their destinations. These guys are the real superstars, and deserve to be highly paid, more so than someone who hits homeruns, throws a little white ball, makes a touchdown or score points throwing a ball through a hoop. But that's America for you.
I love how the pilots are casually updating passengers while people area getting tossed around. Just shows the confidence and training they have. Hearing pilots make updates like that during turbulence always calms my nerves.
I find having a window seat strangely helps when there’s turbulence. You can look out to see that the plane isn’t shaking as much as it feels. You can also usually see what’s causing it. (Clouds, etc.)

Once, flying from LGB to JFK on jetBlue, the pilot, I shit you not, I remember told us it would be a few bumps, but otherwise not too bad when descending/landing. He didn't tell us we were flying over, and into, a nor'easter. Holy shit, was it turbulent. I gave him a nasty look when getting off that said "if it were legal to do so, I'd fucking strangle you." That's not the kind of thing you don't forget to tell passengers. On the opposite end, flying TPA-HPN, once, we had lots of turbulence, and the pilot kept us informed - down to the fact that no matter what they did, climb or descend, it was gonna be bumpy. As I got off that flight, I offered some skittles - which he accepted - as I felt generosity 9and sugar) was in order for a pilot that kept us informed.
travelsonic I hope you didn’t really tell that JetBlue pilot that. He probably was routed by dispatchers through a storm. He got you on the ground safely and you should be thankful.

If you have seen some Boeing and Airbus wing failure testing, you would actually find it to be quite reassuring. The amount that a wing will flex before failure, is eye opening!!! Down south, in the summer months, next to the Gulf of Mexico, there are always bad storms because of the tremendous heat and humidity. They can form in minutes and go from a light wind and a little drizzle to 70 mph winds and torrential rains with hail storms. I was coming into Atlanta from Frankfurt Germany once on a Lufthansa DC-10 and there was a storm so bad they had to close the airport and we had to circle for about 45 minutes. Those were the longest 45 minutes of my life. We dropped once for what felt like 500 feet and then it felt like we hit something. I guess when the wings lost airflow we dropped and when they caught airflow again it produced the feeling that we had hit something. We were pitching nose up and nose down, going side to side, rolling left to right and right to left, the lights went out briefly but the lightning kept it lit inside as the lightning was continuous. The overhead compartments were opening and spilling onto people's heads. Hail started to hit the plane and it was deafening. We could hear the engines spooling up and down as the pilots adjusted for what they needed. Luggage in the lower compartment was bumping against the floor underneath our feet. I had to catch a little carry on bag I had in my lap as it flew over my head several times. People were screaming, praying, crying and some seemed to be in shock. I imagine some let out a little TT in their draws. I have never been so glad to get to the ground in my life. I hope i, nor anyone else, ever have to go through that again.

my worst nightmare....bad flight, noisy kids, and those same kids coughing their germs all over the place in what is essentially a small sealed metal tube.
SOME turbulence makes me feel the same. 'Some' is the key word for me. While in Peace Corps in mid70s I and another volunteer flew in an old one engine Cesna-like mail plain for over an hour in rain and turbulence with just one pilot. Just three of us. Flew in an old 737 through the monsoons from Phukhet to Bangkok in Thailand mid-80s. Horrifying is all I can say. A few years later I read a piece in the paper of a 747 crashing on takeoff and all killed from same airport. Also during monsoons. Always wondered if it was the same 737. Like I said, even when I took it it looked pretty worn.
I noticed that my wonderful JetBlue flights were consistently NOT so wonderful due to turbulence. It was strange. I flew many, many times before that and yet noticed that flights on B6 were bumpy. Living next to Boeing it was easy to find an answer when I finally mentioned it to engineers. The Boeing engineers praised the A320 as a quality, safe airplane to fly in, but they explained that Airbus builds "sturdy" planes with wings that don't move much during turbulence. This means that passengers inside tend to feel the turbulence more. Also, if you fly B6 you will notice that the heads of people rock back and forth during the entire flight. It is just an Airbus thing on the A320. Can't remember if it does that on the 19 or 21. I did NOT notice it when I flew from London to Boston on the A340 but did find my flight bumpier than when I took the 747 on the flight before it. I enjoy my B6 flights now that I tell myself that it just feels bumpier than it actually is. Boeing planes tend to have wings that flex more, especially the new 787. Airbus builds strong planes that flex less. Both are safe.
I've been on 4 A320 flights and all were a bumpy ride. I've had worse turbulence on its little brother the A319 and it actually flew smoother on a stormy descent. A321 generally handles well but a lot of pitching left and right on approach and climb. 757-200 takes the skies some of the best among ones I have flown on along with A319.
Commenting 2/1/20 at 610am EST..I know exactly as to what you mean by the jolty-turbulences as described.....I had the very same turbulences when this Pan Am 707 jet I was in when I was still at age of six....hardly much older than the noisily yapping toddler heard in the cabin off and on, heeheee, way back on WEDs 1/29/64 when severe Tstorms that were unexpected..and we all inside the jetliner having flown into....thus being way down...in Montevideo Uruguay...en route to Buenos Aires and then to NYC's JFK airport the next day...Even though this was a good 56 years ago..I still remember this very vividly even to this very day....! BTW..nice shot of the takeoff from Philly...the gorgeous deep blue skies above the clouds..and the landing at Ft Lauderdale...and I see of the dark skies off to the EAST upon landing......as it did show that severe Tstorms having been present at the airport.......which did prompt the tornado-warnings.. Nice job here on the video description...and how I do wish many other descriptions are like yours here....
I'm freaking out, Stella, you're NOT helping - you need to drop the noise down a few decibels before I stow you in the overhead. Inside voice, girl, inside voice! :)
That moment from 15:35 and on is very familiar to me. I flew from London to Newark once and it was like that for most of the 8 hour flight. The captain came on and said he'd tried to go both lower and higher but we just couldn't get out of the clouds, even at 31.000 feet. I was very tired after that flight. Good video (Y)
So we as pilots have a saying about turbulence “it’s like hitting a huge pothole in a brand new car”. Scary at first but in the end all pilots have been VERY well trained to handle these situations. These pilots also have lots of people looking out for them. Pretty sure that PIREP looks awesome 😂.
When i went on a Plane i was 13 years old we hit turbulence Unexpectedly and it made go forward and i hit my Face on the seat my Parents siting in i was between my two sisters But i got a Bloody nose but Kelly grabbed me back in the seat
Charlie Irvin yeah unfortunately sometimes things like that happen... as pilots we do our best to keep our passengers informed about the possibility for turbulence but we can’t ever tell how bad it is until we either see it on a weather report or feel it ourselves...
I know I’m gonna get replies but this would only class as light turbulence. There are 3 , light, moderate n severe. Light takes the bugs off, moderate takes the paint off n severe can cause structural damage but is extremely rare thank god.
I'm not a pilot, but it appears the rear wing flaps were not extended for extra lift. Any plane I've flown on they were extended always on take off to the max. @ 7:57 what little extension they had, were then retracted.
Flying in clouds equals turbulence....always been my experience. When cruising in those thin, high clouds, my experience has always been that the ride was more turbulent.
I was a road warrior for 2 years and I thought I was a "G". On a flight from Ontario, we hit turbulence similar to this and dealt with a crosswind on take-off. I held hands with a stranger and we cried the whole time. I stopped traveling two weeks later 😅
I was on a turbulent flight last August (AA481, I have video of takeoff/landing). Thing was dropping like a coaster and people screaming mid-flight, but perhaps enjoyable for people who love thrill rides in broad daylight.
It was intense and violent, but almost fun, and I generally hate mega-coasters. Not for the faint of heart; a full 85-ton airplane getting tossed around like a toy. Probably the record for worst turbulence for me.
No injuries, just a thrill ride in the sky. Gotta hate when one hits turbulence and people get injured because of it; those get logged in aviation safety record databases too. And we arrived on time so no complaints there.
Everything changes as soon as the Captain speaks during turbulence. I travel frequently from USA to Europe and only few airlines like British and United would talk to us. Iberia and Lufthansa are normally very silent.
Not Me when i was 13 Years old the Plane smelled like a old Taxi Cab and when i was going to Florida with my Parents and big sisters we hit Turbulence and i got thrown forward into the seat in front of me I got Bloody nose my dad took me to hospital after we got off the Plane
I’m a seasoned passenger and now fly private aircraft and I love flying the plane myself in turbulence. Glad the pilot came on to reassure passengers. I did a flight in a small turbo prop in to Chicago. Dropped so many times several feet the flight attendant said ohh shit with big eyes and a guy started crying. We didn’t know it was his first and last flight.
Sandpit to Smithers 1984 we hit bumps that occurred just after refreshments. I had Coffee all over me the side to side slams were intense. Went from bliss to terror in seconds, then smooooooth air again. Have not been on an airliner since. I love flying,, earned pilots license in 1987 have 594 hours in 150 and 172 but the big jets.... Never again.
Always remember, the airplane doesn't much care if there is turbulence. The plane is moving with the air but we tend to stay in one spot so we really feel it. Scary sometimes? Yes. Dangerous? No. Always keep that lap belt snug.
People should've clapped not an easy flight for those pilots. Turbulence from mid flight to landing, this is why I don't travel by air in winter time the warm air from the south mixing with very cold air. The summer is best, the fall season too and late spring are good.
I was on a united flight from chicago back to portland for a school trip, that was similar to this, nonstop turbulence for about 40 percent of the flight, and over 100 percent of Wyoming lol
I had a flight like that recently from philly to Los Angeles. I was so tired just wanted to sleep but no! Darn turbulance. It was so bad the pilot got on and apologized for how horrible and rough the flight was just before we were going to descend. The weird thing is the weather didnt look that bad to me.
Stacy and Keto Life Yea usually it isn’t the weather it’s more the wind patterns and stuff, apparently it was super windy over wyoming so that’s why we got a ton there
That could probably be classified as mild to moderate chop. Heavy or severe turbulence is scary to say the least, and can cause injury, even if you're seat belt is fastened.
nice video. I fly alot across the atlantic and also experienced heavy turbulence on these flights, but the worst was a flight on Delta from Orlando to Cininnati. The ideot pilot flew directly into a severe storm as soon as we left cruising altitude. It was so bad that, even though we almost touched down, started through and deverted to Loisville. In all of my time flying, I thought we never make it out of there alive. Flying can be wonderful but sometimes very scary.
Idiot pilot? Oh, I guess you are more familiar with the limitations and performance of the A320, navigating through weather systems, and flight path planning than the professional pilots up front who both have years of training and experience. I'm also sure you were equipped with a better radar and TCAS system, were fully briefed on the WX for winds aloft and the turbulence RPM charts for your flight planned route, and were in full communication with the controlling ATC agency regarding the PIREPS and air traffic situation in the KFLL terminal area. I see the problem. The pilots clearly should have consulted you prior to dispatch. You know what all of this means and are a more qualified A320 PIC rated airline transport pilot. Their bad. If I ever have you on my flight, please be sure to inform the crew so we can ensure the avoidance of any and all rough air.
Oh my gosh this reminds me of the terrifying turbulence that I encountered on a family trip to Honolulu, flying over Oregon and Washington was a nightmare, going to and coming from Honolulu omg I'll never forget it
this is why I no longer travel in the winter season from JFK to FLL, the warm weather from Florida and the cold front that mixes with northern cold air with warm creating turbulences, summer is better.
oh geez whatever they are feeding the kid they DEFINITELY can cut back on! That's a helluvalot of energy 😫 That turbulance is insane, I experienced similar on my last trip and a lot of luggages were damaged good.
imagine a 3 hr flight from Denver to Detroit with severe turbluence the whole time?! yep, that was me 2 years agom...I would have welcomed that little bit, but it still would bother me!
13 years ago, flying on an American Airlines flight from Chicago to Los Angeles, had more or less a similar experience - very moderate turbulence for most of the flight. Holy crap... the wings were showing off their flexibility. 9 years ago, on a jetBlue flight from Long Beach, California to New York/JFK, pilots told us literally a few bumps here or there, otherwise smooth during landing... we flew into a fucking nor'easter. It was absolutely bonkers.
This didn't look turbulent until descent into FLL. The shaking of the camera made it look more turbulent. When I film in flight ( which I do to keep occupied and less fearful) I jam the camera ( my cell phone) right up against the window to keep it steady. The viewer can still note the severity of the turbulence by wing movement. Going through clouds like that is always a bumpy ride. Good video despite the shakiness of the camera ☆
It's quite clearly very turbulent, and there's no "made it look more turbulent" about the camerawork - if you steady your camera completely you eliminate any bumps and actually make it look smoother than it is. The shaky camera clearly and perfectly illustrates just how bumpy the ride was, as well as the sound of the cabin rattling quite audibly, and the captain apologising the turbulence.

Both are safe.
interesting
I've been on 4 A320 flights and all were a bumpy ride. I've had worse turbulence on its little brother the A319 and it actually flew smoother on a stormy descent. A321 generally handles well but a lot of pitching left and right on approach and climb. 757-200 takes the skies some of the best among ones I have flown on along with A319.
Haha
Wow! Thank you so much
I‘m glad that strong turbulences never happend when i was flying with my family 👍🏼🙈
Thank God! Thanks for watching
Isnt it nice how you can leave the snow and in two hours be in sunshine and high temps.
You’re so right!!!!
Finally, a video with turbulence.
Yes
That's pretty bumpy ride. Thanks for sharing
Yes! Thank you for watching.
I'm freaking out, Stella, you're NOT helping - you need to drop the noise down a few decibels before I stow you in the overhead. Inside voice, girl, inside voice! :)
🤣
😂😂😂😂
That moment from 15:35 and on is very familiar to me. I flew from London to Newark once and it was like that for most of the 8 hour flight. The captain came on and said he'd tried to go both lower and higher but we just couldn't get out of the clouds, even at 31.000 feet. I was very tired after that flight. Good video (Y)
Wow nice
So we as pilots have a saying about turbulence “it’s like hitting a huge pothole in a brand new car”. Scary at first but in the end all pilots have been VERY well trained to handle these situations. These pilots also have lots of people looking out for them. Pretty sure that PIREP looks awesome 😂.
Yes, thank you so much!
I love a pilot that communicates with his passengers
When i went on a Plane i was 13 years old we hit turbulence Unexpectedly and it made go forward and i hit my Face on the seat my Parents siting in i was between my two sisters But i got a Bloody nose but Kelly grabbed me back in the seat
Charlie Irvin yeah unfortunately sometimes things like that happen... as pilots we do our best to keep our passengers informed about the possibility for turbulence but we can’t ever tell how bad it is until we either see it on a weather report or feel it ourselves...
ATodosLados Aviatio
Oh and you were in the back of the plane, too. Bless your heart.
Heather stubbs that's the safest area in case of a crash
Yes it is!
Yes
I know I’m gonna get replies but this would only class as light turbulence. There are 3 , light, moderate n severe. Light takes the bugs off, moderate takes the paint off n severe can cause structural damage but is extremely rare thank god.
Thanks!!
Mark .... I am no aviation expert, but thats an on point description! 👍
You got replies 😁
Fluffy -Fluffy lol 😂 thx
Thanks for classifying the turbulences correctly. I can tell you have aviation experience. :)
I LOVE taking off they go SO FAST..
Yes me too
I'm not a pilot, but it appears the rear wing flaps were not extended for extra lift. Any plane I've flown on they were extended always on take off to the max. @ 7:57 what little extension they had, were then retracted.
Thank you so much!
This. Is why u should say thanks to Allah for his blessings ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amen!
The kids are great! They sound so excited and fascinated lol
Lol
some good turbulence right there buddy! ;-)
Yup! Sometimes I think that maybe it wasn't a heavy turbulence. But was the strongest from 25 years flying haha! Thanks for watching!
+AviationDreams Netherlands ...i would have definitely fainted
Los Holandeses son muy simpáticos y amables y las señoritas bellisimas. Saludos desde España.
Flying in clouds equals turbulence....always been my experience. When cruising in those thin, high clouds, my experience has always been that the ride was more turbulent.
CAT is the worst cuz it's totally unexpected.
(Clear Air Turbulence)
Yes
I was a road warrior for 2 years and I thought I was a "G". On a flight from Ontario, we hit turbulence similar to this and dealt with a crosswind on take-off. I held hands with a stranger and we cried the whole time. I stopped traveling two weeks later 😅
Hahah why??? You have to fly again!
@@TodosLados No worries, I'll fly again, but I now understand why Pilots have to be grounded for a certain amount of time.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
I would need lots of vodka for that ride. That would've freaked me out!
Hahahaha you’renright
Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas to all!!
Thank you. Merry Christmas to you!
I was on a turbulent flight last August (AA481, I have video of takeoff/landing). Thing was dropping like a coaster and people screaming mid-flight, but perhaps enjoyable for people who love thrill rides in broad daylight.
That's true. Sometimes I got a little scared haha! Thanks for watching!
+ecoRfan I bet it was scary. Thank God you all landed safe!!!
Bit scary but not like we were gonna die. Flying is quite safe still. Just really bumpy summer storm conditions over the Midwestern US.
Everything changes as soon as the Captain speaks during turbulence. I travel frequently from USA to Europe and only few airlines like British and United would talk to us. Iberia and Lufthansa are normally very silent.
You’re so right!!
I love the smell of walking in a plane from the terminal
Arcadego.7 2 same
Not Me when i was 13 Years old the Plane smelled like a old Taxi Cab and when i was going to
Florida with my Parents and big sisters we hit Turbulence and i got thrown forward into the seat in front of me I got Bloody nose my dad took me to hospital after we got off the Plane
Lol gross smells like a bunch of must to me lol
bit weird
Me too. I thought I was the only one
14:49 what type of cloud is this? It's looks like a white ocean.😮
Not sure! But I appreciate your time watching the video! Please don’t forget to Subscribe
@@TodosLados I think it might be Cumulonimbus Incus or Cirrostratus cloud
My palms started sweating like I was on this flight myself 🤣🤣
Hahahaha it happens! Thank you
Scared of turbulence but its funny to seat here and watch it, like i never gonna fly again,
You're right haha
Watch this one regularly, great vid,I fly often but not seen turbulence like this, gave it👍....Good stuff
Thanks!!
Wow thank you so much for sharing this!!! And thanks for your time watching my videos !
Wow
Great vídeo. Nice camera
Thanks
,,, Actually a nice ride for what it was ,,, Not bad at all ,,, Great Job Pilots :)
Thanks
Cool shot of the moon 🌕 😊
Thanks
Calm repots all the while keeping a tight white knuckled hold on the yolks 😳
🤣🤣🤣 thank you for watching!
Great video thanks 👍👍
Thanks
Absoluttelly beautifull, very great video!😂
Thank you so much
Always remember, the airplane doesn't much care if there is turbulence. The plane is moving with the air but we tend to stay in one spot so we really feel it. Scary sometimes? Yes. Dangerous? No. Always keep that lap belt snug.
Yes
People should've clapped not an easy flight for those pilots. Turbulence from mid flight to landing, this is why I don't travel by air in winter time the warm air from the south mixing with very cold air. The summer is best, the fall season too and late spring are good.
Fernando Salas I agree with you!! The turbulence was after 30 minutes of flight!!
I was on a united flight from chicago back to portland for a school trip, that was similar to this, nonstop turbulence for about 40 percent of the flight, and over 100 percent of Wyoming lol
Hahaha wow!!
ATodosLados Aviation yea it was crazy but in a way i kinda like turbulence, it’s kinda relaxing imo
I had a flight like that recently from philly to Los Angeles. I was so tired just wanted to sleep but no! Darn turbulance. It was so bad the pilot got on and apologized for how horrible and rough the flight was just before we were going to descend. The weird thing is the weather didnt look that bad to me.
Stacy and Keto Life Yea usually it isn’t the weather it’s more the wind patterns and stuff, apparently it was super windy over wyoming so that’s why we got a ton there
How does flying at a slower speed 🤔minimize turbulence??
Good question!!!!
That could probably be classified as mild to moderate chop. Heavy or severe turbulence is scary to say the least, and can cause injury, even if you're seat belt is fastened.
Yes, you’re right! Thank you so much!
I’ve been in heavy and it traumatized me for years.
Awesome weather shots moderate turbulence can be rough
Yes!!!
Wow that’s scary hope u had a safe flight
Alexandra Wilson thank you so much!
as a student pilot you realize that wing well below you on a tighter turn is in fact - your own !
Nice
When it comes to turbulence the only thing you have to fear is fear itself
You're right! Thanks for watching
I was more concerned with the folks that had to endure the kid coughing chunks than the turberlence.
🤣🤣 true!!
Flying to Aruba we hit bad turbulence & was sitting at the very last seat so that didn’t help at all as well
Yep! You're right!! Thanks!!
Nice Video my friend!✈️
Thanks
Fabulous landing. Wow.
Thanks!
Takeoffs and landing in Miami area during thunder storm season (July-Sept) can be awfully bumpy.
Yes! You’re right!
Constanze Steegmiller It’s true! Thank you so much for watching! I invite you to qatch other videos on my channel! Hope you like it!
@@Ryan-sw4xy Lighten up, Francis
Who’s the “ideot “? Look in the mirror
Great video, great pilot
Yes! Thanks!!
Turbulence is bad when you hear the cabin creaking , really bad turbulence is when you hear the passengers screaming!
You're so right haha
Indeed, your cabin crew are the yardstick. Watch their body language. If they clutch to they seats you know it's going down.
Yep. Flying just above the cv's with just enough high altitude convergence to give a few good jolts.
Yes
Crab landing in crosswinds is scary. Plane comes down sideways a bit and straighten out just before he puts the nose down.
Yes! You’re right!
Oh my gosh this reminds me of the terrifying turbulence that I encountered on a family trip to Honolulu, flying over Oregon and Washington was a nightmare, going to and coming from Honolulu omg I'll never forget it
Yes!
I rarely encounter NO turbulence while flying over Seattle-Oregan area.
That pilot should be recognized because he wouldve calmed my nerves bout the turbulence waves
Hahaja you’re right!
How loud is it inside? Maybe it was the guy phone, but it sounded louder than I thought it did
It’s less louder than the video
this is why I no longer travel in the winter season from JFK to FLL, the warm weather from Florida and the cold front that mixes with northern cold air with warm creating turbulences, summer is better.
Yep
oh geez whatever they are feeding the kid they DEFINITELY can cut back on! That's a helluvalot of energy 😫 That turbulance is insane, I experienced similar on my last trip and a lot of luggages were damaged good.
🤣🤣🤣
That flight was experiencing turbulence while backing away from the terminal.
Hahahaha. True! Thanks dir watching!
Thank you.
Thanks
This is definitely strong turblance. let hate turblance
Ujum
imagine a 3 hr flight from Denver to Detroit with severe turbluence the whole time?! yep, that was me 2 years agom...I would have welcomed that little bit, but it still would bother me!
*ago
13 years ago, flying on an American Airlines flight from Chicago to Los Angeles, had more or less a similar experience - very moderate turbulence for most of the flight. Holy crap... the wings were showing off their flexibility.
9 years ago, on a jetBlue flight from Long Beach, California to New York/JFK, pilots told us literally a few bumps here or there, otherwise smooth during landing... we flew into a fucking nor'easter. It was absolutely bonkers.
Wow
Nice moon shot
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the tip and for your time!!!
Now that’s what I would call a bumpy, moderate to severe turbulence
Yes
