That ended up being more tools than I even own.
🤣🤣🤣
I would maybe take a Multitool and a pump 🤔😂
Same here
Same but I would also bring a backpack with some other stuff j
Add some sealant or duct tape and y ou u can climb Everest. 😂
Plus tire boot, tubes, and patch kit.
Ah, and I always have a spare quicklink.
Guys got reputation to think of work for Park
and Couldn't Fix/
MacGyver something!??
Btw forgot SwissArmyKnife
& chewing gum...
I like to have everything I need with me so I only ride around Park Tool HQ.
So basically take everything?
yeah i don't know what the point of this video was tbh. way too many tools. three screwdrivers?
I don’t take anything on 6 hour plus rides besides my bike and water. Lol
That bag is like a magicians hat. 😂😂
Ya lol
After looking I’m for sure going to start bringing extra cable s. No cable no brake
Just take the Park Tool MW-1 Mobile Work Shop and be done with it...
That might just make the most sense :)
@@parktool duh, just rent a truck with enough horse power and it can double as where you sleep also.
I'm looking up that tool like a dumbass
Yow! I'm glad that I am a road guy. For a multi-day trip, a folding tire and a tube or two. Tire levers and a patch kit. Spokes tied to your top tube and a spoke wrench. A multi-tool. A mini-ratchet, small plier and a small phillips head screwdriver. A chain tool and a couple of links. Electrical tape. All of this will fit in a carrier on top of your rear rack with plenty of room left over. Of course, having someone driving a sag wagon with all of the essentials is the best way to go.
Good video. I'd love to see one for tools to bring when you're FLYING with your bike.
Taking care of your hands might be the most important lesson a mechanic could learn!!!
I personally take my whole garage, including my bike stand. Never know what will happen
Amen on the threadlocker, Calvin! Thanks guys, keep the tech vids coming!
You guys, are awesome! You are so talented and professional. Thanks for sharing all your high quality videos.
This is a magic bag! It fits everything inside!!
Breakdown kit : Tubes , non metallic tyre levers , allen key set , chain link pliers , a selection of reuseable chain links , philips and flat bladed screwdrivers , pump .
Always like Park Tool video. Clear information and fun experience to learn. Not mastering it but should be enough to fix almost anything before give up and then go to bike shop 😎
I 2nd some form of cleaner, degreaser: and a can of spray lube. Isopropyl to clean discs, cuts, slime off things. Maybe a spare disc (CL/6 bolt). You can use the toestrap to secure bike to a branch or rail for working off the ground. I have a telescoping bar that goes into the end of one of my car roof bars with a basic clamp on the end to work as a repair stand.
I am also a bike mechanic in Cheyenne Wyoming. So things can be far between when I'm riding. So here is what I carry. Screwdriver with four bits, small pair of vice grips, box end wrenches for all the nuts and bolts, six I think. Allen wrenches, spoke wrench, small adjustable wrench, chain breaker, small pair of channel lock pliers, called ignition pliers. pump, patch kit, spare inner tubes. All in all I think my tool kit weights in at about 3 pounds. I carry this all the time when I'm riding. So weight is not an issue. Oh, small container of spare nuts and bolts. Three tire irons. Tire pressure gauge.
Just always carrying it in a backpack?!
@@jmvldz Nope, cant wear a backpack on a recumbent bike, which is what I ride.
James Hart I think you guys are missing the point. The video is about tools for after the ride not what to bring on a ride. Make a small repair at night at camp or hotel as not to ruin a weekend of riding. 😀
Mtb Plumber Thank goodness you’re here to explain it to us! 😛
Who wouldnt want to go on Epic rides with you guys :D
Lot's good tips park tool ! Thank you
On my 2-3+ month bicycle trips it would be good to ride with someone carrying all those tools... On the other hand, when my son suffered collision damage in the Rockies, when I had a headset fail in NC, and when a stick drove my rear derailleur into the spokes in the Hudson Valley, there were places called bicycle shops that were better equipped for those catastrophic failures. Rule of thumb on the road, or trail, is you suck it up and make it work until you can find a shop. ;~)
Glad I only need a 6mm hex key and 17mm spanner for my BMX, even got a little chain tool/ spoke key with some spare links on it for when I travel
Ya'll should make that a set. I would buy it.
They have sets
@@njrivetelite they should have more
Love this list! Thank you for that!
Love Park tools love the videos. Helped me so many times!!
Bottle opener was a good laugh. Thank you for videos like these!
black tshirt man is an inspiration reguarding bike fixing ... congrats for the work !
I made my own screw driver that uses the hex little bits. Altoid tin full of bits and the handle. Also can be used as a T handle and can get into tighter places than the L Allen wrenches
Bring the Beer is a must.
flpirate45 and you have a bottle ope... i mean a pedal
Good suggestion. We have a small problem returned home, sort those tools from the bag back to each original place.
Multitool, chaincutter, pliers, patch kit, pump and extra tube is all I need.
Nice video guys, I would take some cone wrenchs as well as copious amounts of beer.
3:34 when you miss that butterfly knife that you had on cs go
What’s the best multi tool to keep in saddle bag along side tube, tyre lever and patch kit? Thanks
I would totally bring the TW-5.2 instead of the ATD. I love my ATD but there are a bunch of places (on my bikes at least) where 6N-m isn't enough. Like seatpost collars, seat clamps, stem pinch bolts, etc. I agree on not needing the BIG ONE for cranks and whatnot so IMO the 2-14N-m range of the TW5.2 has the winning bang-for-buck game.
I learned the hard way how important it is to have an extra cable and a chain tool out on the trail.
For camping rides I bring:
Tubes, pump, multi, rags, 15m wrench, adj wrench, shock pump, chain tool, couple of master links, tire levers, spoke wrench, needle nose and a patch kit.
Fun educational film!
These guys are great should be a million plus subscribers good job like the entertainment energy
Nice video. I was looking for some tips on what tools to take in my saddle bag. But this seems like an exhaustive list.
The trip I am planning is 180 miles or so, 2 days, on paved roads mostly.
I have the following at the moment.
1. Multi tool kit (do you think individual T handle Allen keys are better?)
2. Chain tool
3. Tire levers, 3 pcs
4. Spare tube- 1
5. Tube patches- 5 (with adhesive and emery paper for sanding the tube)
6. Mini pump- 1
7. Derailleur hanger- 1 (is this important??)
8. What about spare chain ?? maybe some links ?? are they really needed?
9. Zip ties ?? Adhesive tape??
Large wet wipes are always worth having, for cleaning bikes and bodies.
One of the best things to bring along on a trip!
I bring a shovel and some lime for burying the bodies. Use the wet wipes to clean up afterwards.
@@KGMyuR3w remember to plant an endangered species on top so they aren't allowed to be dug up
Very good advices!
What to pack when bikepacking from Alaska to Argentina. Lol. I’m going camping with you guys.
9:23 Yessss, the toothbrush.
Just flew with bike for first time. Had to reassemble before 400 mile rail trail. Thought the tri Allen / torqx wrench plus multi tool was enough. Many times just wanted plain allens with ball end. Live and learn.
The amount of times I've seen my friends mangle there derailleur and make it turn inside out I would definitely bring a spare
I almost totally agree with parts, I’ll make a Multitool instead of so much tools, add a pump, and totally take the rear derailleur, and hanger this are one of the parts most damaged in every trip.
Thanks guys
I disagree about the brake bleed kit, hoses are easily damaged when falling off. I've had *single days* at the bike park, let alone a whole weekend camping, saved by having a bleed kit in the car (including a spare hose, olive/insert and mineral oil of course).
Question will there ever be a parktool toolbox for every tool, as in like a stationary toolbox
Bike rack repair stand, it’s what I use all the time in my garage
I need friends like you in my life...overhaul my bike at the trail. haha
I would take some patches, a multi tool, quick link, and a hand pump. What are you gonna true every spoke size on one trip?
It would be so good it there was an adjustable hanger so it would be able to fit on any bike or a universal hanger
lol the interaction around the master link pliers
sooo i would bring
multi tool with everything
pump
tubes
tire
and the spare bits and bobs thing
I would like this bike tools in blue bag 🤔This is my dream 😉I like Park Tool.Best regards from Mosina near Poznań in Poland.
Spare seat post bolt? I may have missed them bring that one up, but if it breaks, it's miserable (speaking from experience)
So sad that you didn't put more work in to the mechanics table wheel kit. The pneumatic tyres are a bit dicey, tubes hard to get. Would have been fine with some 7" foam tyre trolley wheels. I use mine all the time at events to get my tools over to the other side of the pits or back to the car. Can you revisit it?
The bottle opener is crucial if your buddy wears out his cassette out there.
I own 1/10 th of that gear even in my house and never have had any problems.
same here
@SPAZE PARANOIDS !!!! ! there was a lot of tools that can be doubled down for multiple uses. Imo they could've took way less and still performed the same repairs.
Who makes the large tool bag and the small bag you used for spoke wrenches?
I like the choices. This should be most people's home mechanic kit, because most people are not qualified to use any of the tools that got left out.
I only saw about 3 tools that they didmt take from the back wall
Maybe a tv tray table to set things on. They fold flat for easy storage.
Such a magnificent mustache! 🙌
Chainring bolt tool. Takes no space, but it’s hard to replace it with any other tool.
One for the saved vids section 👍
I see this man and push like button automatically!
Great content
You pair should be on Television and make everyone smile
Depending on how remote you are camping... a pick nick table makes a good repair stand, or flip the bike upside down.
The Park Tool portable work bench makes a good picnic table! 😂
Is there not a Park Tool cooler with a built in bottle opener? CLR-1?
Beer is a crucial tool. Especially for those pesky repairs and lost bolts
Hi. not only seat posts but even bigger frame or seat posts sizes
Truing stand? Has someone already mentioned that? Big and heavy I know but it would be a must-have I think.
A zip tie and your bike is all the truing stand you need on a trip.
I feel like I need a loan to get everything in that campfire bag 😅
I legit have a whole tool kit from tape to cable ties to a massive wrench
Can you make one for long distance bike touring where you don't want to bring the kitchen sink?
Same philosophy as a trail ride - just take what you think need to get to the next bike shop & be prepared to get creative. Ask yourself - What's really likely to go wrong, and what can you actually fix on the road/trail?? Also, give your bike a complete check up & service by a great mechanic before leaving - preventative maintenance reduces the likelihood of needing repairs.
I did a 5000km (sry for non american measurement) tour around the Baltic sea in Europe) I just carried a small multitool (with chain-tool and Spokewrenches) the L-Keys I need for my bike (screws wich are hard to reach with the multi-tool), some spare inner-cables, spare brakepads, a Leatherman, Gloves and two spare Chainlinks.
I forgot tire leavers, cableties, two spare tubes and patches (not the selfadhesive ones)
@@mraffifpv1685 I did 16000km around Australia pretty much with the same (except I didn't forget the patches or tubes).
I forgot fire making supplies!! Pepper spray for bears is another must have in places big predators live. Carry bells, a whistle even firecrackers where theyre safe! Carrying a large weapon makes lots sense sometimes!!
Multi tool
Tire levers
CO2
Tube
Chain link
Done
SporK went in bag early
But later mentioned hygiene,
no sinks,
Have tweezers, med kit,
Wipes etc as after wrench 🔧🛠️
Eating
How far out and portable tools, vs. at campsite,
long hike back with a broken bike,
so what to carry???
I usually bring main tools, spare tube, patch kit, small first aid. Idk about 20 lbs of tools.
I love this channel
Them: bring 5 grand worth of stuff
Us: brings 1 screwdriver and a set of allen keys. Value: $16
Difference is, if Calvin comes on my spin I expect him to be able to rebuild my bike including welding a broken TI chain stay. If I go on his spin he can’t rely on me to change a tube.
I always take a toolbox everywhere I take my bike.
Half the stuff I don’t even have at my house😂
How about a tire jack to get that tire back on the rim after a flat fix
All tools to fit my bike and everyone elses come to that lol
bike hack: just bring seth from seth's bike hacks he as a hack for everything
Still waiting for a reply to my last question i have two park bike stands, when we clamp the bike in the jaws it’s a new one but it moves in the jaws
Hello Ron, Are you clamping a smaller diameter seatpost by chance?
As an experienced mechanic, for trail repairs I would not bother with the derailleur alignment gauge. I can get it close enough with a 5mm (or 6mm on older models) hex key into the derailleur mounting bolt and bending until the hanger is straight.
We like the luxuries ;)
Did you bring any grease?
Just bring a chain lube, link and tool, spare tubes zip ties and Allen keys maybe a spare set of rims. Don't forget the shock pump and tire pump. If all fails go drinking!! That's all I bring because that's almost all I have . I need more tools. Park Tools makes me so jealous I want it all.
Was a masterlink included?
A hitch rack makes a great repair stand
Ok how do I strap the bag to my seat or bottom tube?
Lots of tape of course ;)
If I were to buy a Park Tool kit.. and I wanted to build bikes..
Which kit would give me pretty much everything I need?
I've seen a vast range well up to a $5000 kit which Im not getting lol.
The PK-3 is a great kit for building bikes, but is on the more inclusive side to cover many bikes. The AK-3 is also a great choice for building bikes.
Not sure if you made a video yet but what about people that are on a long distance road trip that are traveling? Someone who is biking cross country? Bike backpack travel. What tools should one carry with them at all times when no access to getting back to your car or base came is an option? Weight is always a concern when carrying clothing, food, camera and video gear etc. If you have not made a video yet, I would like to see one on what are the basic minimalist tools one should carry as well as what minimalist parts due to weight that one should carry when traveling on a week long, month long, six month long trip, etc.
Thanks for putting out such great videos to help me learn how to maintain my bike equipment. Peace, Mo
chain checker would be nice tool
Can someone please tell me what the tool on the left of the park tools sine is
Possibly that would be the tangent, yes? Or perhaps you are seeing the FFG--2 which align and check the open dropout alignment?
Discbrake rotor?
My bike repair thing is just a pair of pliers and a cheap bell multitool case thing I got at walmart and my favorite wrench. I use the easy links made by wipperman which are infinitely usable. Idk why you need all of this stuff when I doubt very seriously that much will or can go wrong. This sort of bag they packed I would only do if I was moving away for 6 months.
I would ad a small tube of grease and a 13mm and 14 mm cone wrench.
