Come on a 4 handicap, not in his wildest dreams. Every time I have seen him play he is at least 7 over. 4 handicappers don't hit shanks in any regularity. He is more like a 10 handicap, Rick is at best although he is a pro and therefore scratch probably is at least 6 over
Rick's videos can sometimes have a surreal quality to them. I'm thinking in particular when the video scans towards him & Rick says, "coconut chips, for those wondering" whilst he looks straight into the camera for a couple of seconds. All done with a dead straight poker face. Made me chuckle.

Great round guys. Loved it. Think everyone played nice golf. I would argue Rick feels the need to shape more golf shots than nessasary. Play it straight makes mishits come up short rather than a cut becoming a slice. Espcially when the rough grass will punish you as much as today

His golf swing and that "tour caliber" sound at impact makes me so jealous! Haha. I'm jealous of all three of you guys for getting to play such incredible courses right before tour events, too! Rick has been playing some really good golf here lately, but he's got to find a way to get out of his own way! Play the shot in front of you and then forget about it, especially if it's a mistake.
Rick, the production quality on these videos is astronomical. Those first few drone shots at 0:26 made me stop and pause the video. Hope I'm in for some good golf and laughs! Cheers from Canada.
Great watch. Seriously impressed, Rick. One of your best rounds. That 11th (The Railway) is a brutal hole. I went to see the Open with my dad in 1973, the year Tom Weiskopf (RIP) won. We watched the leaders in the stand behind the 11th green. We heard cheers getting nearer and nearer as Nicklaus was making his way round the course. He came to the 11th and hit his second to about 10 ft and holed the putt. In those days, it was a par 5 but still, epic from the master. He was too far back, ended with a 65 in 4th place. Great memories.

I've been a teacher for 15+ years (history, not golf), and I can't get over how great the moment is on the 5th tee when Rick is pondering his options and James is like, "What are you going to do?" The result doesn't even matter--it's a wonderful lesson in how to be a supportive playing partner and friend, and just one of the many reasons I love this channel. Great stuff, guys--thank you
What I love about these videos is listening to Rick and all the golfers on how they approach shots, their thoughts, how they recover and of course the excitement...thanks for sharing..
Dunno why but even though Guy seems unphased, I'm disappointed for him that he didn't record a score, even though I couldn't dream of playing Troon, no matter how bad I would be playing I'd really want to actually record a score. I know filming probably made him feel like it was slowing things down, but I love watching his round regardless of the score.

This what i want more of Rick! You and the boys having a fun round. Being in the USA seeing any course that in your part of the world is always a great watch but even better when you're having a great time, having a laugh and enjoying a rounc even on a tough course! Play well!
Most famous last words were always, "Hey y'all - WATCH THIS!!"... but they have been replaced by, "Would a mouse do THIS?!?!?". Absolutely killed me. Looks like a beautiful course that would be a blast to play, although I do agree with James that blind tee shots aren't charming or quaint, they are an annoying remnant of a bygone age and they really should be eliminated whenever possible. Great rounds from Rick and James, playing Troon off the VERY back tees is a tough test, for them to both shoot 74 is quite impressive. Definitely different ways to get there (I think Rick had 4 birdies, 3 bogeys, and 2 doubles with only 9 pars; James I believe had 1 birdie, 1 bogey, 1 triple and 15 pars). I do wish Guy had kept playing and recorded a score, just so we could see what a very good recreational player might shoot on an off day... but I imagine once he got up around +11 or +12 he was probably starting to feel a bit embarrassed and didn't want to post a score in the 90s. Great content here, can't wait to see the pros tackle it this week. 🙂
Well done at breaking 75 Rick! And Guy, you say we watch these to see Rick and the pro, but as someone 1.5 years into their golf hobby I really do enjoy watching you plot your way round.

There were quite a few times he's thinking "now I must get up and down to save par." Super focused on the scorecard. I think tee box honors has a lot to do with it. Great round of golf, few things on my mind after this: best golf I’ve seen Rick play, despite a rocky finish. Guy was a bit wordy, which is not nice to contend with during a round. Golf is definitely social but there’s a job to finish on the course. It’s all about a tidy balance of seriousness and banter. Guy’s final nail in the coffin was abandoning his round! One thing I’ll always treasure about Rick is whatever he shoots, he cards a score and remains hopeful until the very last putt. As a mid handicapper myself, I don’t expect to get out there and play like Tiger Woods, but Rick has taught me to always TAKE WHAT YOU GET. That’s why we love this game! Very disappointed by Guy throwing in the towel like that, really poor. Hats off to Jim for playing his golf and staying focused as well, and Rick’s shirt is the grooviest I think I’ve ever seen him wear!
Love the shows with James - one bad hole from a level par round on a bloody tough course, played so solid. That was a top round from Rick, too - some of those approach shots from the rough on the front nine were dreamy. Great vid!
@@nickthebold He need to stay in the game, his poor concentration - just playing around - might destroy the other players game too. (Love Guy, but to me, this was a clear fail on his part.)
Rick, I’m a huge fan of you. Been watching you for years! Tip: you talked yourself into “everything changing on hole 8”. You said everything could change and I think mentally that shifted your energy to being passive/nervous. Best 7 holes I’ve seen you play in a while. I struggle with negative thinking in golf and I would think if you said “little par 3 postage stamp, let’s stick on close and throw a little dart in there.” Almost self fulfilling prophecy based on our self talk? Food for thought! Love you pal!
Would love to have a hype man like Guy for every round I play "Gorgeous, great shot, beauty that, well done mate, players will bite your hand off for that in the open". The man knows where his bread is buttered

Saw Rick on Live on the Range. He did well. Seemed to fall into the role quite naturally. Well done mate. Oh, and don't listen to the comments in there. You are NOT a chubby, talentless hack. :))
Love seeing James and Guy (guy is my dude! Love his vibe. I honestly have a "post crappy shot" swing thought and it's " da fook (am Canadian, that's my best attempt at mimicking Guy's accent) would Guy do.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
Hopefully the course gets a bit faster. Love a huge run out at The Open
The only two barstool golfers I care to watch with one of the best videos of the year. Couldn't get any better!
I'm confused. I thought this was the Rick Shiels Golf channel. Not the Guy Dingleberry Golf channel.
Love Rick’s outlook on life: “even without any golf, you could just sit and the stands in the sun and enjoy the view”
That’s the stuff 30:00
I absolutely love it when guy bigs himself up details exactly how to play the shot..... Then shanks it or smashes it out of bounds, this game bites back guy😂
Great video - superstar golf from Rick, 74 on an open course he hadn't played that week, absolutely amazing
Rick has that Ping putter rolling pure!
His original review wasn't THAT glowing...but his putting has been top notch
The trick is to double tap the 10 sec button whenever Guy is swinging or talking.
I love this suggestion. Makes the videos much more bearable
Love the shows with James - one bad hole from a level par round on a bloody tough course, played so solid. That was a top round from Rick, too - some of those approach shots from the rough on the front nine were dreamy. Great vid!
Great video but Guy was way too much with the talking. I think James even mentioned on the 18th green what I’ve mentioned above.
the dude won't shut up!
Heavy use of the skip button when he starts talking. He talks over people's shots too so can't even avoid it half the time!
@@drvanhalen1 thanks for the skip button idea - without it, i would have pressed the off button
I love guy but I really feel like he was drunk during this.
17th Tee - Guy, "Ah that could be in the hole', not even on the green. Talks way to much crap.
Guy’s a melt. It’s Troon just finish your round instead of quitting
Fun first. If keeping score is preventing you from having fun, then don't keep score. Nothing wrong with it
@@nickthebold He need to stay in the game, his poor concentration - just playing around - might destroy the other players game too. (Love Guy, but to me, this was a clear fail on his part.)
@@nicktheboldridiculous comment imo you’re now a content creator and are there to play 18 not ‘just have fun’ very poor form to not finish
i agree - he has as much charisma as a wet brick.
You have to finish, to quit is totally wrong.
Great video, but Guyannoys the life out of me.
Me too, he's definitely someone who likes the sound of their own voice
Yep
@irishmarc struggling with the podcast because of Jim.
Beautiful course! Been one of my favorite ones to watch all year
Can you upload a version where we have the option to mute/skip Guy? 🤦♂️😂
Some of the best golf Rick’s played in a long time. Love to see it
I didn’t think Guy could get any more annoying, then I watched this video…
What a round Rick! James and Guy were good company as well, those OB tee shots and Guy's reaction had me rolling 🤣
Would love to have a hype man like Guy for every round I play "Gorgeous, great shot, beauty that, well done mate, players will bite your hand off for that in the open". The man
knows where his bread is buttered
BRILLIANT video Rick ! So good to see how tough Troon is and will be for the field this week , some fantastic shots between you all.
So it's Guy with Producer Rick now
guy mate I come to watch you play, most charisma in the group, always love seeing you feature, bloody legend, Rick played damn well best ive seen from him, great to see it
I get that guy is not top notch but it's almost like he's scared to take it serious so instead he acts like a court jester and tries to act like it doesn't matter. Maybe less talking would help. Otherwise, great stuff out of Rick!
Hi Rick, Guy n James….watched this when it came out and now watching the Open Championship…great insight to the dangers facing the pros….seem to struggle on the same holes as you guys…especially 11 😮…will watch your video again later for more comparisons…cheers folks
Guy can be unbearable, puts me off watching.. Talk less waffle / cringe!
Fantastic video, great shots, rollercoaster ride for everyone, superb , well done , course looks beautiful, looking forward to to the open 2024
Guy has to be one of THE most annoying people of all time. A close 1st ahead of Rick. James FTW!
This was awesome! Some of the best golf I've seen from all three and Royal Troon is definitely a tough course!
The guy with the most screen time talking about his shots doesn't even finish scoring... We are here for Rick and JR...
Great to see you playing like this again. Great to see the enjoyment in playing golf has returned. Hope you can keep this going. Great video!
Have to be honest, would love to be able to mute Guy. Sorry Guy.
I lost all respect for him when he stopped keeping score. I hope his wife watches this video and does the right thing.
How is he still getting a gig with Rick here?! Easily the worst part of this channel. Gobby, rubbish banter, reckons he can take on pros, excuse merchant…
Get him back behind the camera ffs
@@MosesMal0n3 I don't think he bats for the other team. He just needs to man-up when he's not playing well. We all need to suck it up, no pun intended, when we're not striking it well.
@@yourenchantedgiftssimply put! Take what you get, easy as.
This was a really interesting watch. Im new to golf and listening to an experienced group just play and talk was very helpful.
I've always had Rick down as a bit of a prat but then along comes Guy and says 'Hold my pint'
Thanks for that lads. It's always nice to get an in depth view of an Open venue
I typically like Guy’s banter to keep things light, but this was a bit much, especially at this kind of venue
Break 80, 75, 70 are the best videos you make! The pre-major and fairly recent pre Ryder cup content is unmatched.
