Don't RUN OUT and buy this metal detector. 😂 This is the Minelab X-Terra Voyager, a strange detector that is for sure. At a price of $150 USD on Amazon.. is it worth the money or should you save up for something a little better or look elsewhere?
My two cheapos should be enough for me. One was about $60-$80 and the second one was a fraction over $100. At the rate I’m going with falling etc…, I really don’t get out that much. This is the second year in a row that I’ve suffered an injury to my chest wall. It puts you out of commission for quite a while. I was supposed to see my doc TWO days after my initial ER visit, BUT I live quite a distance from the doc so I made the appointment knowing I had to give my driver a week or two in advance. This pain hasn’t gone anywhere. I still can’t breathe in deep enough to use my inhalers and I most certainly can’t sleep on my right side. I’ve let it all out today and 😭😭 my eyes out at my mother. Poor mom. She’s 84 with her own cross to bear and I 😭😭😭. 😂😂😂 Sorry to dump it on you and everyone else that reads this. Btw. Your video was perfect. 👍🏻 ✌🏼
Hey I got the sunpow black 11 ..Not sure if that’s the model but that’s how Amazon has it and it looks very similar to the voyager and we’ve been killing with it but we also don’t speed sweep.. So ya this one for the price would be fine for a person or a teenager starting out…Think they should drop it to 99.00 bucks like the sunpow…I mean if you want to up your game there’s the new score 1 2 & 3 or Minelab vanquish starting at 199 or just move on up to the legend…So starting out this thing could be a lot of fun for somebody Or try the new updated Sunpow black 11…At 99.00
Thanks for the video. Grabbed this for my son on primeday for $120 feels like a toy when arrived but seeing you use it gives me hope. lol at least as a starter detector. We will upgrade if the kids enjoy the hobby enough.
i didnt have any problems with the vanquish 340. me 6' 2". sold that snd trying to sell my nox 700. ,found some one that gave up (how i got the 340 off craigslist for $60) its a nox 900. had it a month now. came with 2 coils 6" ,11". got the 15" off ebay. for $160. learning a lot. got like $.11 today. gotta learn. cant be like the people that give up. had it out looking for gold. in the desert. twice. be at the beach this weekend. have a good day. .
It seems to be a descent starter machine for an adult of small stature or a child. A turn on and go, simple easy machine. Sufficient enough to get to know if you like it and if you want to pursue the hobby before spending more on a better machine. Good enough to get "the bug" without breaking the bank. I'd get one as a loaner for a friend who wants to tag along on a first hunt. Thanks for the great video and the nature shots. Love It!
Great review Austin! I found during my review that the minelab voyager did better then the nokta find x pro. Only downfall i thought was the shaft length short and the 9v batteries.
I used my friends and it’s okay if you want to dog to about 3 to 4 inches on nearly all coins more than that it struggles pretty badly better off with a quest x5 with the free quest pointer which is a brilliant machine for the money. Appreciate your reviews after seeing this I left well alone lol Happy Hunting bro
I find most metal detectorists these days are spoilt. They want their machine to tell them EXACTLY what they are digging and EXACTLY how deep it is and EXACTLY how much it is worth. All you need is something that goes “beep” when it passes over metal. To find the real treasure you need to dig a LOT of junk.
I started with the voyager. Lots and lots of coins and a few stainless and junker rings and pendants. I did return it and get the xterra elite. The voyager is fine at the park and in the dry sand but doesn’t like the wet sand/surf very much. This machine is really simple to use but is basic. If you think this is a hobby you’re going to get into, maybe save up for one with more features.
I greatly appreciate this review, been looking at one for awhile for my son. I think it'll work well for him, thanks for the awesome real world review.
I'd say for the price it would be a good starter machine for say a child or adult that's wanting to give the hobby a try but doesn't want to invest much up front, but for others that really have a strong interest and want to dropped a bit more down the X-Terra Pro is hard to beat and still won't break the bank. I owned and used the Whites MX-Sport and the XP-Deus but unfortunately had to sell both of them some time back do to unforeseen financial circumstances. but good news is I was able to grab a XTP at Bass Pro Shops for a great price a few days ago and I'm back in the game again. I actually think I like it more than my whites and XP. Great little review for sure though, I just came across your channel about a week ago and do enjoy your content very much so
Looks like the shaft extends a little farther. When you put the first part of the shaft in you pushed it all the way in. That lever you pages down should help adjusting it. Pull the lever up and pull out a little more
Thanks, Austin, for another review on the latest equipment out there that doesn't break the bank. You ever see the video where a guy walks up and smacks the top of the surface in a brackish looking pool of water and all of a sudden this huge tidal wave of a gator comes plowing towards him to grab ahold of chunk of meat the guy has in his hand?!?! Hey, how many ducks were in that pond when you first started the video?!?!
Yes I buy these with my own money I think you have to in order to get a true feel of "is it worth it?" It's easy to say nice stuff about a free detector. Hope to see ya soon!
Its minelabs first detector made in china. No info on khz its running as far as I know. I'd prefer the find X over the voyager which is pretty much a simplex and the simplex is a beast.
This detector reminds me of my Dr Otek. It’s adept at finding coins as well. Only costed me about $80. The voyager is probably worth buying while it’s on sale right now for $120. Definitely not worth $150. If you’re spending that much, add extra funds and get the xterra pro, just my opinion. The coil probably makes a difference on the voyager? Thanks for the demo video!
Anyone know where to buy a lanyard/strechy thingy for a pinpointer so that it doesn't get lost? I have the garret carrot. Tried looking at Home Depot but didn't find much. Thanks Austin for investing in some new detectors and trying them out. Very interesting to see how they compare to more expensive options.
An old telephone receiver cord works good . Just snip the cord off. Or the old phone chargers that plugged into cigarette lighters in cars sometimes had the same type of springy cord that old phones had
Serious Detecting sells 2 different black Lanyards. I would purchased the larger of the two. I purchased several. One has a Velcro strap for attaching it to your Pouch or detecting Belt. The smaller one they sell is cheap trash, and has a cheap plastic clasp. I attach my Lanyard to my Pinpointer with a large Brass fishing swivel, which makes it very easy to get back in my Sheath, plus after I stand back up I can just pull it up with the Lanyard instead of having to bend back down to pick it up. Serious sells them on eBay and on their Web site.

My girlfriend and I would like to get into this hobby, I was considering buying this metal detector for us. You didn't seem to like it too much, so which one would you recommend around the same price? I don't want to spend a lot just in case we don't end up using it as much as we think we will, but I also don't want to buy junk. Between 100 and 200 bucks would be ideal I think.
There are quite a few good budget options out there, I think some depends on preference. A few pretty good starter ones I've used are the FindX, Vanquish & maybe even an X-Terra Pro if you can save up a bit more or find one second hand.
I saw quest has a new one as well a cheap detector the x1 you know ….. if its in the budget lol had a great experience with the x10 its the cheapest detector i could find with full tones
For me personally, I want the trash. Metal detecting to me isn’t to just find “the loot”, but it’s about making the environment cleaner and less littered. So if it picks up trash, then that’s a good thing for me
@@TreasureOutdoors it’s £119 in the uk 🇬🇧. So I’m thinking about getting one to start me off. I don’t wanna spend big money to find out I don’t enjoy it.
Is it worth spending your hard earned money on this or should you save up for a better metal detector? In my modest opinion as seasoned metal detectorist ANSWER.. NO! For me is garbage. Thanks for the Ducks !
Wanted to see and show how the Voyager compares to the FindX since they are probably top contenders around the $150 range right now. I was going to get a Nokta Score but decided to pass and try two cheapies instead.

That "guest obsessed" pin had something to do with Checkers/Rally restaurants and a survey they had.
Thank you, for showing the Ducks.

I paid $79 for my Bounty Hunter Prospector from Big 5 and it's found everything. The coil not the detector is what's important.

I think for a little more I'd get the nokta simplex lite instead of this "toyish" detector.
It will be a good introduction for newbies.
Great job showing this detector i enjoyed it thankyou
Thanks for taking the time to leave some love, appreciate you.
Last hunt was a ripper as well x5 mobile phones . One had 450.00 IN NOTES tucked away in it .
I bought two sets of rechargeable 9 volts and they work about 6 hrs on a full charge so I can definitely get a full days use on full charges !
Seems great for price. Need to see on wet sand beach tho'.
Just bought one thanks for revie.
Seems to be a good starter machine.
Your photos were pretty amazing, gotta good eye.
I think it will depend on how long the batteries last if I would consider this as a beginner machine because it seems to do OK. Thanks for the video!
Yep it might be worth seeing if some rechargeable batteries would work in it to save some money over time.
Thanks for stopping by. (:
That detector reminds me of the BH Quick Draw Pro that I bought at a pawn shop, for a friend, who was on a budget. It worked really well though.
Is it fun and worth getting, does it really how you what your getting on the screen like it says.
