Three Years with a Modded Switch: How the System Keeps Getting Better

  • I've had my modded Nintendo Switch for over three years now. During that time, my opinion on the system has continually changed.
    If you are interested in checking if your system is moddable, you can view a list of moddable serial numbers here:
    gbatemp.net/th...
    Is it worth buying an already modded Switch? I don't think so... but if you already have a Switch that you bought for MSRP, I recommend it.

    I've been making videos on this channel since 2013. A lot has changed since then, but today I make videos for the same reason someone may keep a diary.
    It's to track and chronicle the things I am interested in at various points of my life. These videos are something for me to be able to look back on.
    So why are you here? Because video games are fun and worth sharing! If that's a journey you want to be a part of, like the video and subscribe to the channel.

    You dont even need a second switch to go online. You can do something called a partition in your storage which turns one SD card, into two. One half holds the modded operating system and the other half hold the regular switch with access to online. None of the custom firmware is available when using the regular switch to go online so it is undetectable and unless you are pirating games, which is illegal, and then playing them online or using cheats online then you are not likely to get banned.

      if i dumped my own switch game as a backup, and tried to play the backup online can i get banned? im hoping maybe the server reads a serial number of my copy and sees it as one i used before so it doesnt ban me?

      @@pickledtesticles Yes i know, but you’ve got your hacked side of the console, where your backups and all that are, and then there’s the stock (not hacked) side that is basically a normal switch. Long story short i think they could tell your not using a normal switch

    Thanks, I didn’t consider the bad aspect of modding a switch before this video. I had a modded 3ds back in the days and it was such a full time jobs just to keep track of releases, you get a cfw and then a few months later you realize it’s outdated and you need to do another process to install the new one. Nothing better than just playing on vanilla switch and just focus on games themselves

    Great video, really gives me insight into the current homebrew space when it comes to the Switch. I've tried to keep up with the scene considering my history with previous Nintendo consoles (homebrewed the original Wii as a kid and own a modded Wii U and 3DS currently) especially considering that I've kept my year 1 Switch so I can have the option of homebrewing relatively easily available. I've thought long and hard about if it would even make sense to mod my Switch at this point in it's life cycle considering I've gone clean with the current generation and buy all my games (even including the fact that most if not all the benefits of homebrew can't even be used online). I think I'll wait for Nintendo's next generation console, and pray that it's backwards compatible so I can just use all my legit stuff on that new console and keep my current one for whatever else I decide to use it for.

    Yo, should i buy a switch that's not modded (around 150-200$) or should i buy already modded switch (Around 250-350$). An RCM isn't much, i can buy one for 10$, but i'm worried i won't be able to do it. I was also thinking about buying a hardware modded switch. What do you think?

    • @m40s
      @m40s 5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! I modded my switch last night and it’s extremely easy from my experience. If you purchase a RCM jig (around 7 dollars), theres virtually zero risk of bricking / harming your console. I followed a tutorial from Jonny Troche, I would reccomend watching his video so you know what you’re getting into. If you do decide to mod it, make sure to backup your boot record. The only reason I would reccomend buying an already modded switch is if you want the OLED version, which requires a soldering a modchip to the board.
