I really like how the situation is caused by the nanogenes that don't know what humans are. The child gets his powers because of how the Chula warship equips its soldiers, and Jack's ship is also Chula, so they can do similar things. Also like how Jamie wants his mother, while the nanogenes need the parent DNA.
"I can't imagine watching this if you're an actual parent". I would've been 18 when I first saw this episode, way back in 2005. I was really impressed with it, maybe had a little lump in my throat by the end, but that was it. On rewatches over the years I always admired the writing and performances but didn't get that emotional, as I knew what was coming. But now? Now I'm a father to a beautiful four year old boy, and every time I see that ending in a reaction video, even if the reactor isn't that affected by it, I'm instantly in floods of tears. Every. Time. Hopefully in a few more years I'll be sitting down to watch this one with my boy, and I am absolutely certain I'll be a wreck by the end of it.

I have a show that I used to watch with my dad as a child and it will forever hold a special place in my heart because of sharing it with him. I'm sure it will be the same for your boy.

The ‘end of the tape’ bit was good, but when they basically did it again with the typewriter it really got me on my first watch. Glad to see you got tissues at hand now for future episodes.
I think the end of the tape part scared me more, but the typewriter part was definitely more chilling. It brought another level of creepy to it. And, yes, I'm stocked up on tissues at all times now. lol
@@BritanyBinges Apparently, the typewriter scene was a very late piece of filler that Moffat was asked to write after the episode's run time came up too short for broadcast. He had to create something that could be shot without any of the principal cast (who were now shooting another episode), any of the story's locations or sets, because the crew had moved on, and without making any changes to the rest of the story, which was already done.
Teenage Single Mother in 1941.... I didn't see that coming me neither and that's when I officially became a DW Fan =) For me it was 2015 alreay back then as I started.
Yeah, Dalek was a special episode that really helped me know I could be fully invested in the show, but I think this two-parter sealed the deal that I would be continuing with it.
I was a young kid just getting into Doctor Who when the classic series was cancelled. This story really made it feel like Doctor Who was back and it was good!
Well, two episodes into the 11th Doctor and three series of Torchwood later, I definitely care a lot more for Captain Jack than I did in his first appearance here.
I love these, but when they end they just make me sad about Eccleston. The whole time filming he was struggling anorexia and depression, and after he left he got blacklisted from the entire BBC and affiliates for years until some executive left his job. The experience poisoned Doctor Who for him, and he didn't come back for the 50th anniversary special, even though the ban was lifted by then.
Loved your reaction…interesting how had it not been for Jack, none of this would’ve happened. Although Jack would never have anticipated this…unique how it’s not your usual alien invasion story, it’s one of the best and scariest

I realize this is an old reaction, but - how in the world could you have these episodes _without_ Jack? He's literally the impetus for the entire story. As a time traveler himself, and seeing the TARDIS in the time vortex and thinking it's someone from the time agency, he takes what he thinks is harmless space junk and throws it through the path to get their attention; where it crashes during World War II and sets everything else in motion. Without Jack, Rose and the Doctor know nothing about the med ship or the nanogenes, and for that matter, there'd be no altered Jamie to drive the two episode's plot.
I definitely think it could have just been space junk that crashed into the Earth without us knowing where it came from. Sure, other things would have to be tweaked but I still would've worked.
I know Doctor Who has never been 100% on top of explaining everything that happens in the episodes, but more often than not they usually give at least some kind of explanation for the major things. However, unless I’m just not remembering, I don’t think they ever even hinted at how the kid was able to make phones ring, control or influence certain objects, or do any of the other supernatural shit that he does throughout the episodes.
Man I feel your ending comments about not wanting to lose Eccleston. I'm honestly not sure if it's better or worse to know it's coming. I had no idea it was coming when I first watched and it was such a crushing blindside for me at the time
I honestly think it was better for me with it being my first go with the show and with how much I liked him. He was a big part of what made me fall in love with the show to begin with so I think it would've really made me pretty upset to lose him without knowing it was going to happen and being able to prepare myself for it. Now, though, I'm used to the idea of losing of the Doctor and definitely prefer to be surprised. :)

Kind of glad I at least got through a few that were complete surprises when I first binged it all lol. And just YES on all of that about Eccleston! Just saw that the newest audio stuff with him as the 9th Doctor is out on Big Finish actually so I'm off to listen to some new adventures of his and it's got me so excited 🥰

I'm so excited to have him back for a brief period of time, even if it is only in audio form. :)

So I see you are on the second Doctor era in classic, I personally really like him. And it's a shocking coincidence you managed to get to his era and the 11ths nearly at the same time because funfact (unless you don't want to read it going in completely without anything) Matt Smith based his performance on Troughton, so it'd be interesting to see if you can compare the two in some ways as you go through them
The writer of this story, Steven Moffat, was more of a comedy writer at this point. It's one of reasons there's a lot of humour in it. That, and the fact that Richard Wilson (Dr Constantine) was best known prior to this as the curmudgeonly Victor Meldrew in the UK sitcom One Foot in the Grave. John Barrowman cut his teeth in musical theatre, but I'm old enough to remember him as a co-host on the Saturday morning children's programme Live and Kicking. A couple of years ago, the fact that he would get his willy out for a bit of a laugh - a result of the uninhibited world of theatre, most likely - became common knowledge. While it did shock a number of fans, it was known and joked about for years, frequently being referenced on DVD commentaries, magazine articles and even Barrowman's own autobiography. Should he have done it at all? Probably not, but it certainly wasn't what it was later portrayed as being. I can't remember if you've already said, but will you reacting to Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures in the future? There's a degree of cross-over between all three shows at various points, so it may be worth doing. It's not essential, though.

Over the years a lot of missing episodes have been animated with the original surviving audio. Including the tenth planet episode 4. Episodes have been found around the world over the decades. Moat recently in 2013 where 9 episodes from the second doctor were discovered in nigeria

Been looking at your Patreon as I may join in the new year (one of the other Who reactors I subscribe to is coming to the end of the series so far) What is the difference between the full edits and the watch alongs please?
The full edits are edited in the style of the RUclips videos, except that nothing is cut out/deleted from the episode. So, it's still the full reaction, some parts of the show footage are silenced, or the video is removed leaving just the audio, or the video is blurred, etc. However, I just stopped the full edits last week in order to free up time to work on the RUclips versions now that the channel is back from hiatus. So, the last full edit for Doctor Who (NuWho) is series 4 episode 2 (Fires of Pompeii) and the last full edit for Classic Who is season 2 episode 35. I also had only released one full edit each week for each show. With the watch-along versions, the show footage plays for the first 30 seconds and then it's removed. I've tested a few different ways of doing this over the past few months based on feedback from Patreon members. Currently, after the first 30 seconds, the video is silenced and blurred for the remainder of the episode. It is still the full reaction with nothing being cut/deleted. All of the information above is also outlined/explained in the tier descriptions over on Patreon as well. I'm able to release two of watch-along style reactions each week for each show since they don't take as long to edit. So, this style is the furthest ahead. Episode 5x3 and 5x4 of NuWho were released yesterday, and episodes 4x8 and 4x9 of Classic Who were released earlier this week.

Great reaction to a fantastic episode. The doctor working it out and hoping always gets me. And the absolute joy in "everybody lives" is perfect.
Yeah, I love how we went from devastating to ecstatic in such a short period of time.

I do mean series five. I just released the first two episodes with the 11th Doctor.
