London to Cardiff back then was about a 3 hour trip on the train. That's how far Mickey had to travel. London is in East England, Cardiff is in Wales to the west of England. Basically a cross country trip. The train takes about 5-6 hours today because there are no more direct lines from London so you have to change once or twice on the way.
I really like that rose is flawed, she’s a teenager essentially and she’s got an amazing life with a wonderful guy in the TARDIS or her family life and a man she used to fancy back home, she wants the best of both worlds she’s scared to commit or reject either side she wants all her cake and to eat it too, Mickeys similarly flawed for letting himself get treated like that at the same time. But I do really like the plot element of her being pulled this way and then the other way and her really learning which one she wants more than the other as her story progresses
This episode was a budget saving one, but it’s one of the better ones. It took the slitheen and stripped away all the joke-y stuff and just kept the essential motives of the character. Great directing, great acting and great music. Great reaction too😃
I've always seen this as quite an underrated episode, especially the scenes with Margret and The Doctor. Also yes I agree instantly proves that Jack is a way better fit then Adam could have ever been. Also always nice to see someone appreciate the music of the show too, The Doctors Theme is so fitting for the character and always gives me chills :) Really excited to see your reaction to the next two for obvious reasons lol
Boom Town is honestly an episode I really enjoy. I'm fond of dialogue heavy episodes, and I did enjoy the dynamic between Blon and the Doctor. I don't think her lack of honesty is what matters, but how she challenges the Doctor and his morality. The ending with The Heart of the TARDIS is better justified than I remember, but I kind of like the message of the ending even if it is a bit Deus Ex Machina.
I think I liked this one a lot better on re-watch, when I could pay a lot more attention to the dialogue and really appreciate it. That scene with Margaret in the diner is beautifully filmed and acted and scored.
No kidding. She keeps stringing him along. I've always wanted to think that she just never noticed, but he blatantly tells her he will wait forever if he has to, and she still doesn't just cut off the relationship so he can be happy. Its the only problem I have with this season.
I think this is my favorite of the Slitheen stories, because it feels smaller scale, more focused, and less campy... I guess as little campy as you can get with the Slitheen.
I agree even though Rose doesn't do it intentionally i never liked the way she treats Mickey if she's going to continue travelling with The Doctor she should just flat out tell Mickey don't wait for her move on with your life atleast it would put Mickey's mind at ease and he wouldn't have to wait for her anymore because the relationship is clearly declining and Rose is losing interest in him that was always my main issue with Rose is she's just not being honest with him. I love the scene with the explanation about the TARDIS and the little call back to the very first William Hartnell episode "An Unearthly Child" (1963). I always thought of Captain Jack as the Han Solo of the companions.
Brilliant episode I think, very funny and very dramatic at the same time :) Cardiff in Whales is where they film the show, especially the episodes that take place on Earth, even the London episodes are filmed in Cardiff, so it's nice to write stories that properly takes place in Cardiff
That Roald Dahl' s place that's the big square we see them based at in this episode. It a nice and pretty irl to. I felt hype when I actually the chance to visit that place in person, see the sites the red church and all that.
Great reaction. Looking back its a deceptively important episode - and i ve just realised its why we have eps 4&5 in order to get to this and from here you get the heart of the tardis (re)introduced and from here .... That threw me on broadcast so i went back to Edge of Destruction - and the tardis being a living thing is indeed referenced there.
Fun fact: the line about the very patch is pretty much lifted wholesale from an edition of the 1960s BBC radio comedy programme Round the Horne. I believe you're far enough into Torchwood now that I can say the actor playing the ill-fated Mr Cleaver would go on to play Geraint Cooper, Gwen's dad. He also appeared in a 1988 Doctor Who story, making him the first actor to have appeared in botj the original run of the show and the 21st century relaunch. While Boom Town is perhaps not as exciting as other stories in this first series, it actually sets up a lot of things going forward. I'd also say that Annette Badland absolutely steals the show from under Eccleston's nose. It's also interesting that this episode is very exposition-heavy, but unlike future eras - from certain fans' perspectives - it doesn't seem to be a problem here; I wonder why not.
I figure someone has probably mentioned it but if not, I will. Despite Doctor Who being mostly set in London when they are on Earth, modern Doctor Who is actually filmed in Cardiff. Even many of the scenes in London are actually filmed in Cardiff so it makes sense that they would have two episodes set in the City. Just a little bit of Doctor Who/UK lore for you. Edit: I scrolled down and saw that someone else has already wrote pretty much exactly what I said. Oh well.
This was the good episode of the green aliens (no idea how to spell it). I love it, its funny and has the whole squad, rose, jack, micky and the doctor. Theyre all so funny together
I feel like Mickey and Rose's relationship is widely misunderstood. It's more than just a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship where they've been going out for a while... we meet young Mickey in '87 when Rose is a baby, so they practically grew up together. With that in mind it makes some sense why she would be quick to assume that he'd always be there for her, because he's always been a constant in her life. I get the vibe that the romantic relationship came about mostly out of convenience, and Rose had grown to accept it as normal because the rest of her life was so monotonous. I really appreciate that they continue to care deeply for each other as friends, though, and I appreciate this episode for being such a turning point in Rose's character arc. Really love the theme of facing the consequences and shedding the romanticized idea of flying around the universe so carefree and paying no mind to the aftermath of the chaos it causes.
I really enjoyed this episode in particular because it’s central theme is dealing with the morality of the death penalty. I’m anti-death penalty myself but I find the topic endlessly fascinating because it tends to divide opinions.
I think this episode is a little bit underrated because it’s the most forgettable one in series 1. But Russell T Davies has a really good knack of writing episodes that are dialogue heavy but without being boring, there’s this one and a couple more where it’s low budget, nothing much really happens and yet I still enjoy it. There’s some really nice moments with Margaret and Nine as well discussing morality in the restaurant and how he’s not that much better than her
@@Jim_The_Fish definitely, eccleston is brilliant enough to make it watchable alone. By this point his doctor has become softer and more playful like he used to be. Major character development in one series, more than some chibnall characters got in years
John Barrowman (Jack) is the only man id consider experimenting with man love haha. Erm you will find out more later maybe about the behind-the-scenes stuff.
I'm glad you're starting to like Jack a little more. Interested to see how you feel as things go. I know you're well ahead - have you considered watching Torchwood (Spin off series starring Jack)
I have reacted to all of Torchwood over on Patreon. Eventually, I'll put the first episode out here on RUclips to see how it performs and whether or not it will be worth bringing the entire show over here. I've also reacted to all of The Sarah Jane Adventures and will be starting Class in March.
@@BritanyBinges I did see that in the next episode that you were watching Torchwood haha (comment you must have put on the video later). I'm seriously considering patreon to do watch along, we'll see how I go haha
I mean yes fair to say Mickey deserves better but he still had only just got into a new relationship and then he goes and ditches this new girl for a day for Rose and is happy to 'spend the night in a hotel' with rose so fair to say he's not exactly perfect or innocent either
Nice episode, nothing amazing but it is a very good one with a lot of very interesting concepts and ideas. I am very excited to see your reaction to the finale

You can still get a train directly to Paddington?
She's climbing out of the window isn't she ? Makes me laugh every time. Plus the dinner scene is so good. Great reaction as always.
Thank you!! 💙
I love this actress. She is now the coroner for Midsommer Murders and it just cracks me up to see her.

Last minute replacement script, so they use the city they are in, the standing Tardis set, the Slitheen suit & an actress they really like.

Agreed. The first time or two I watched it, I never really cared for it. Now I truly appreciate all of the dialogue and little character moments.
I feel so bad for Mickey!!! Looooove Christopher Eccleston as the doctor ! The chemistry with Rose and Jack and The doctor is amazing!!!
No kidding. She keeps stringing him along. I've always wanted to think that she just never noticed, but he blatantly tells her he will wait forever if he has to, and she still doesn't just cut off the relationship so he can be happy. Its the only problem I have with this season.

Yeah, it definitely had a good mix of funny and dramatic moments (which seems fairly standard with this show lol).
An underrated story, most disasters in the uk 🇬🇧 on screen take place in London near Buckingham palace and Big Ben. Thank you
That Roald Dahl' s place that's the big square we see them based at in this episode. It a nice and pretty irl to. I felt hype when I actually the chance to visit that place in person, see the sites the red church and all that.
This is an episode that ends up a lot better than it starts out.
I definitely agree with you there! The restaurant scene (and the one inside the TARDIS before that actually) made this episode for me.
Great reaction.

Cardiff is only a couple of hours from London.
I love this episode for what it is, a small budget story. Great to go back this far with you again , what memories!
Pls more doctor who reactions! Just found your channel, will be here throughout the whole rest of the show!

This episode is usually not that well liked among the fandom. But the scenes with the doctor and the slitheen in the restaurant are great stuff!
Initially most fans don’t care for it the first time, but it’s definitely one of those episodes that gets more appreciated upon rewatch.

Oooh a guy that showed up in TORCHWOOD
Ooh, a guy who showed up in "Remembrance of the Daleks" in 1988.
For the nuclear plant you should look up Pickering Nuclear power plant in Toronto Canada. Lol.
I keep commenting I know
But what does the W from John mean?
The W sign that Jack makes with his hands was popular back in the 90's. It stands for "whatever". It's a way of being dismissive.
mummy........mummy are you my mummy? still creeps me out lol
It will never not creep me out. lol

I'm not sure who that is, but not to my knowledge. Lol

Never saw this one.
First
I know it's annoying but I have always wanted to say it
HAHA! I don't mind. Comments help boost the video in the YT algorithm, so feel free to do it on every video. lol
Most Doctor Who bottle episodes are known for being bad.
This and Don't Blink are the obvious exceptions.
This one has on moments but honestly more on the boring side for me
Yeah, there were a few scenes that were great but, overall, it's not one of my favorites from this series.
