    When you do this, there is a tolerance, it's normally around 2 or 3 thou. Aim for about the lower one third, the gauge should slip in with smooth resistance. If you do this, it helps with a overly tight setting, or equally a slightly slack one. You want them on the lower side of middle for longevity, but never under minimum recommendation. Slightly slack would be better than over tight.
    I'm loving all this engine stuff, sorry if I'm jumping all over the place, but the mechanics of it all, I just love to see. Real things that happen, important things that you have to do to get this ship in shape. You do more than I thought you might, so hats off Captain, I'm enjoying all this boat stuff. Love your productions Cyndi, sound is very clear, and because I'm gettin old, it makes a difference. Shots are top class as well.
    Again lovin it.

    Just wanted to take the time to thank you VERY much for your videos! I've been binge watching them over the last few weeks, living vicariously through you. I have the dream of some day getting my own trawler or cruiser and doing the very thing you're doing, but a few things have to fall in to place before I can make the leap. Til then, I'll happily continue watching to see where you end up next. Also, I'm so glad Shel has been given the all-clear on his heart. I've had similar episodes that were extremely scary and nerve wracking, but thankfully nothing too serious. Anyway, again, thank you so much and look forward to seeing the C-Shel II get back under way!

    I was going to say you’re a braver man than I, wearing a white shirt while working on an engine. But then I kept watching.

      @SearchingforCShels  3 года назад +5

      Nothing like an old white t-shirt in the engine room to make it look like you are into something big. The more dirt Cyndi sees when I come out of the engine room the more pity she has on me. 😉

    Great video guys. You both look so happy and healthy. I have a question regarding diesel engines. I know you cant give me a definitive answer, but how many hours should you get out of your diesel engines if they have been maintained properly as per specifications? Are marine diesels different from truck diesels (other than the cooling systems). I keep hearing people having to rebuild their engines after 4,000 and 5,000 hours! Thank you.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Mark! I'm thinking 6k to 10k out of the engines we have. Diesel engines rarely just die of old age, there is usually something that happens to them like loss of water and overheat. If rebuilding at 4 or 5k, then something happened to them. That said some higher powered diesel engines will not last as long. The rule for longevity is not to have any more than 1hp per cubic inch of engine displacement. For example, the Cummins 6BTA is 360 cubic inches and has 330 hp. That is a good ratio, and that engine has a good reputation.

    Just some first hand knowledge about sea tow and Tow boat US, not sure how accurate the information is about sea tow covering the entire Bahamas,, that mite be true but I can tell you from my first hand account with being towed back from Bimini a couple of years ago that sea tow which I had a policy with as well as tow boat US , would have sent a second party tow boat to come out there to tow us back and as to when that would have happened depended entirely on when they could have found a independent tow boat to come out to get us. I was told that could be as much as a day or two. Where as Tow boat US was called and scheduled a pick up the next morning at 7:30-8:00 am👍, and it was an actual Tow Boat US boat. But by all means I can agree completely that having a tow service is a must no matter what the company for sure👍

    My latest weekend project of putting a metal rack system in our garage went somewhat like your mail opening.
    Wife : Maybe lets read the instructions.
    Me : Nah, I got it. Just let me get my tool belt and cordless drill.
    😔
    45 minutes later it became obvious I should've read the instructions. Lol. I can laugh now but my wife was hot! Why do we males have to just dive right in? 🤷‍♂️
    And there should be a vacuum release somewhere on that suction cup.
