anything that makes you release dopamine could be addictive, video games are easy to get to and release a lot of dopamine, so it tends to be a easy choice. finishing a tough job also releases a lot of dopamine, and some people get addicted to that, but working tends to be a lot tougher than playing games, and is therefore not the most obvious choice ;P
No, unfortunately you are very wrong. Some substances are more potent and more immersive than other like video games, tv, RUclips than lower on the spectrum would be books, comics, chess
It's supposed to disturb the viewer, like whenever you read books for a while your sub eye starts to wander away from what your dominant eye is looking at.
This was an excellent story that really touched home. I played them for years but I grew out of them. I look at those kids doing the e-sports and while it's great to have a new sport out there to choose from, it's sad to see the bastardization of gaming. Communication, people skills and self development become impacted and like the brother in this story, gaming is entertainment but it's also distraction that can lead to missed opportunities to develop mentally.
Gaming can also sprout new addictions. I know several people in RuneScape, Alcoholics, Stoners, all type of drug addicts, etc, litteraly most clan chats are full of people talking about drugs, NOTHING ELSE. it's honestly so depressing to look at, that's what made me quit gaming, I'm gonna focus on school, I wanna be an engineer and build stuff in the future.
No offense man, but you are grasping at straws here. There is no correlation between being an alcoholic or drug user from playing video games. I am an engineer, and guess what! I still play video games.
As the phrases go "all sunshine and no rain make a desert" and "all work and no play make Jack a dull boy". I recall my boys gave me a 3ds as a Xmas present, I said to them "all I want from you is good grades, not this", they replied "we r just trying to help you pa". I hope I'm less lame now.
I think harvesting a passion in real life is the opposite of harvesting a passion for a video game. Let me explain: (I've been addicted to many things in my life, like drugs, gambling, video games, and the simple process of learning. - So everything below is my point of view according my own experience) So let's say you start to learn, for example, guitar At the beginning it will be boring, you will have to force yourself to play, your fingers will hurt, you will want to give-up because it seems too hard or complicated , and you barely see any progress. But the more you do it, the more you enjoy it. It becomes easier, and fulfilling. After a few years, you become better, and you get even more pleasure from it. And by playing at parties, or going out and play in a park, by the lake, the beach, you start to meet and make new friends (it's crazy how people will talk way more easily to you if you are doing something artistic outside). You will share your music with them, and people around you will enjoy you and what you do. At the end: You are happier, and this specific happiness will be available at any time, and growing on the long term. Now let's say you start a new video game: (Or a new drug, haha) At the beginning it will be really exciting, you will feel like forced to play, your fingers will hurry you to get back on your keyboard, you will want to discover this new world, and if there are some challenges, it's even better. But the more you play it, the more it loses its magic, it becomes a routine. After a long period, it feels like you didn't achieve anything or progressed a lot compared to the first few weeks/months in that game. You realize didn't really made long term/fulfilling relationships, you didn't really share anything, you mainly did it for yourself, and don't feel accomplished. Even people around you are sad to see you like that, or even annoyed, and you feel it. At the end: You feel a bit sad and lonelier, and if you stay stuck longer in that game, this feeling will grow. That's how I felt after playing various games Like: Runescape: 5 Years / League of legends: 3 Years / And many other games here and there. (sometime 18 hours a day, or even more if I didn't sleep) And also playing guitar for 8 years (I'm only getting more pleasure by playing more, that's crazy), juggling for 3 years, (same here), skateboarding for 10 years (it hurts, but feels so good to learn new tricks), painting, dancing ... Of course I still play video games from time to time, but in a really healthier way. If you want to see what I've learned in term of passion over the last few years, when I was not playing video games, you can check my RUclips Channel, I made a few video, maybe it will inspire you. Cheers my friends!
Sorry mate but you are so wrong that might just be u but me and my online clan have helped a lot of gamers I love my online brothers more then real people in the real world you have pain hate and everything is falling apart in the online world for us we are the brotherhood that fights to be the best if not for the online world more kids would be killing themselves as lot of us that don't like Sports or outdoors we are hated and seen as outsiders so you may be right for you but I have been playing for honor for over a year and I have never got bored your mind might not get the gaming would but it is better then the real world

After a good 2-3 hours of gaming my eyes and my head start to hurt and I know I have to turn it off. I used to be almost addicted over 15 years ago but then I started another hobby: listening to music. I still enjoy videogames a lot but I can easily differ reality from virtual.
To be honest.. I played video games for years, and when I was 17 and got a girlfriend, I stopped.. I'm 20 now, and I am not with my ex anymore; I still don't play video games.. Almost never, I believe you eventually get to an age where the real world is more interesting... A lot of things contributed to me feeling this; Pscadelics, sex, getting over anxiety, and social improvement; these thigns are some of the cures to video game addiction, or maybe, addiction to video games is the lack of things like this.
Actually, we don't talk about it because we know for a fact that everything can be addictive if you are feeling engaged into it that you are too lazy to do other activities. Not stereotyping or anything but from what I've seen, people these days hate video games for the most braindead reason I've ever seen and they blame violence such as shooting, murder, etc., On video games, when the truth is, it's not. Plus, we all know back then, a lot of people blame violence on Sci-Fi books or comics without any understandable reason.
The most dangerous it is that it is temporary escape that can last for hours. Interesting and balanced film though. It does bring intereting question if you turn an addiction into a career then is it healthy?
A career doesn't automatically mean it's not bringing a negative impact to your life. Addiction is more nuanced than just whether you make money with it or not. :)
There's people that make a career out of working in the porn industry as well, but does that mean they can't be extremely negatively impacted? Hell no....
I have overcome this "addiction" at age 18. but, sometimes I have desire to play with my friends some new games. So... it can be controlled/Supervised, I mean your level of addiction. You just need to see better things around you, all sorts of things like: Sports, friends, relationships, adventures, books - then, addiciton will loose effect on you. Good luck,
My 8 year old is going through withdrawal. Last year we stopped letting him play because he would get violent, irratted and just mean. This year being home all the time from covid kinda relaxed game times. I go to work, he plays 10hrs / day. I get home tell him to turn it off for a break. He talks about killing himself and actually briefly ran away. So games are cut off again. Sucks, because I like to play about a hour a week of games myself.

This channel is incredibly fascinating and the comments are compelling, especially when I cross examine myaddiction with the thoughts people have in the comments. I was addicted to heroin and fentanyl for Years, opiates/ other drugs were an escape . They were my “tool” used to cope with life and multiple traumatic events and situations I wasn’t equipped to deal with. They were also my social circle, and the constant ripping and running around made me feel like I was accomplishing a lot, in reality it was distracting me from reality. I’m 25 now, I was addicted for 7ish years. Ill share my biggest insights. Addiction is NOT about the activities/ substances. It’s the individual’s relationship with them. I would detox and gain 90 days or more just to head right back to the trap house, KNOWING this is going to lead to me being in excruciating pain and sickness. I did it anyways because even though I had abstained, I wasn’t DEALING with the things that caused me to look at heroin as a solution to begin with. It took me multiple relapses and very humbling experiences to finally accept and believe the problem wasn’t the drug. It was my lack of coping mechanisms and my brain’s inability to moderate my intake of this substance. As an addict, I liked to make excuses though, and that’s why I avoided reality for so long. Acceptance meant I had to deal with these issues and begin to put in the work required to change. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. And my experience with addiction was such that I would CHOOSE insanity and SELF deceit.. today my life is very different. I still have plenty of issues and things I’m working through, but taking responsibility for my mental health, my situation, and my life-and not continuing to blame my behavior /drug use on my trauma - is what SAVED me and my life.. to those struggling with an active addiction, and those who have clean time, y’all are fucking amazing. Idc what the addiction is, we are some of the strongest people alive. You deserve freedom, and the ability to wake up every day and make decisions based on what’s best for YOU. Bc we are all worthy of great love. Stay safe 🖤
Well yeah, deprive yourself of satisfaction for 8 hours straight and come home to that sweet, sweet dopamine binge 😩 who needs alcohol when you can fantasize for a lot less money. Or maybe drop a healthy chunk of your check on lootboxes so you might experience the feeling of being a "WINNER!" 😏
Played Dota2 on steam more than 2000+ hours. Like deleted it million times and make an excuse to reinstall it again. Everytime I tell myself only one game today, and boom already 10+ hours wasted and feels so bad at the end of the day. Last friday I messed up few big projects and missed all my classes and played dota2 12straight hours. I knew I shouldnt be playing and still kept going. Took a massive streak of losses due to bad attitude and tiredness. Felt so bad about myself and deleted fcukin game again. havent touched it like a week now. another thing to do is asking God's help, find a sport (sport helps a lot) to do and a friend to encourage you in that sport (in my case i love cyclism). i know its hard but its possible
To be honest, I know the cure is just to leave it, just force your self, it will be very painful in the first day, but later on, it will just become easy because your mind will stop bugging you about playing. Trust me. And yes, never watch anything that reminds you of gaming.
I'm the elusive gaming female that didnt exsist 20 yrs ago. I've gone round with gaming addiction and I am dealing with a son in law that cant see his own addiction... when the girl said I played 20hrs straight I was like I can top that... I played W.O.W. 36HRS STRAIGHT NO SLEEP no real food and a 12 pack of my dew... and paid for it with a kidney infection... soooo I understand the gaming addiction pull.... it's a hard one to fight, but the effects of the addiction are just as painful as other addictions.... sigh
I'm 24 now. Started with sega. Still play video games every single day. Not a day goes by where I dont think of playing. I'm at work and find myself thinking of when I go home how i am going to play. I dont go out. I dont drink. I sit at home and play. And I'm super happy.
I was addicted and played a game for two years. Very hard to quit at first even just the thought pains me but I know you can do it. I'm back in the real world now and It's never too late.
I feel like they are confusing e-sports with gaming addiction. When I watched e-sports, it was awesome! I think similar if not better than watching a normal sport, you're just excited for the night's battle or what ever. But at the end of the day, you go to sleep just fine, it's like ESPN, not so much an addiction. On the other hand, actually playing the game, being totally immersed, that's where it's hard to sleep sometimes or go to work/school the next day. I think e-sports is awesome but personally immersing yourself in the game is where a problem can really develop. When I watched sc2 e-sports, i wasn't really interested in trying to be a pro sc2 player, i just really enjoyed the esport rather than play the game sun up to sun down myself. If I had a chance to go to the live tournament, well that's real, a true sociable environment, the real world, what is wrong with that even if there are costumes involved at times? Everyone's having fun. It's not the same as being in a room yourself in your own video game world totally immersed all by yourself.
''Look at his eyes he doesn't blink'' Only 8 seconds shot, but okay. I'm addicted to games as well, but I at least know there's still a real world. I take breaks from gaming, but instead I watch other people gaming then LOL. I'm still scoring good grades for school and my addiction kinda helped me trough school and shit. So I'm proud and happy to be addicted to games and that I met a lot of friends online and IRL! I'm social, I'm addicted to games and I'm good at school. Why would being addicted to games be bad then?
@@Arceus948 how? Simple. Diversity of content. TV addiction has the same problem. But RUclips is far worse, because you can jump at will to some other kind of content. Do you get it? You can overcome game addiction just because you get tired of the game you are addicted to. This happens with games and with everything actually. Oh yeah, and the fact that RUclips is free. It is like game addiction is being addicted to weed, and RUclips addiction is being addicted to drugs. When you start getting tired of weed, you go with cocaine, get tired of cocaine, go with heroine, get tired, go with weed, etc. If you want to overcome addiction, you have to understand why you have that addiction and find something else to do. RUclips addiction usually have somehing to do with shitty people the person has to deal with, depression, lack of opportunities for good conversations, etc. Maybe it is not your case. Probably it is. Good luck.
It’s addictive when you neglect when you forget to shower and forget your job. That’s why I live on my own it teaches me valuable of money and time. I thank my mom for forcing me to move out I was without gaming for 6 months and taught me a lot. Alchohol and gaming addiction and gambling is the same. I love gaming due to the social aspect 2,000 hours wow player
A good point that was made: the "why" they are gaming. I'm 26 and started playing videogames by 5. At 12, I used to play 9 to 10 hours per day. I never stopped but right now... I can't handle more than 2 hours straight (only if there are) some friends to play online). When young, my "why" was just to have fun. But eventually, gaming lead me to live without purpose... feeling that playing, was the most that I could get from life. Right now thanks God I have purpose. I'm and still playing, but it's a secondary task; doesn't compromise my real life. (Sorry for my English guys hehehe)
@Horshu Do you even understand how condescending that sounds?Sorry,I don't give a darn if some Ahmed from 2 mileniums ago lived entirety of human kind.
I love gaming but recent years made me limit how much. I have my days where I play for like 5 hours but i had to stop to get my life in track before I rewarded myself with gaming. I cope with my addiction by treating it like a reward so if I didn't do shit I don't play. Keeps me productive but like I said I still have days where I get lost in immersion. I've had a great life tho. I just wasn't popular in school so games took in where parties didn't. I also have good friends and all. Gaming just came in at a time where I needed em. I am glad to say tho I am not as bad as I used to be. Got a college degree. Great girlfriend and my own place. Two years ago was completely different. Just gaming.
I used to be somewhat addicted to games (Played everyday for 10+ hours) until I decided to try programming. Helped with my "addiction" and I'll be real I don't like video games that much anymore. Would rather go out and walk around my community.

The biggest issue is adults now don't understand that video games aren't the same now, YOU HAVE TO PLAY FOR LONG PERIODS in order to even have a chance against the competition. Its not Mario where you jump on a turtle and die and restart... it is super complicated competition with thousands of variations of movement and shooting and strategy
12:30 people don’t pay for the privilege, they can watch for free. People pay so they can support the streamer and so that there name appears on the screen to other people. JSYN
One more comment to gamers to help them in time management. I’m not an expert but in my quest to defy and understand gaming to step off the ship, I learned a massive amount. How to moderate gaming and short the 16 hours a day. Take my steps read them all before deciding if you need to be skeptical ASAP. You need a day activity that takes a good chunk of your day, this is for gaming to not be a priority and it’s a perfect step to make gaming even more fun but no have total control. Listen to Batman, Bdobbins i think ir another streamer. They on here tell you, 1-3 hours your brain is fresh, 3-5 your measurement change and you see that you are failing, needing to keep going to have a good match to make you think different and feel it was worth it, problem is you’ll find that match and actually think it’s worth it, and time management fails here. 5-9 you noticed the game failing you, and that’s why you go down, teammates aren’t putting in the work; it’s their fault. You may even raise your voice, if you’re calm, scream if you aren’t the calm gamer (I never threw a controller). Watch your self go through these stages and decide to fit 1-3 and make it really fun everyday. Do yourself a pro favor and use the training at the beginning to warm up. After 3 hours if you had a good game, hit power and turn off!! This will end your session on a positive note, ultimately, after a bad game, turn it off, use autopilot if to can’t do it on your own, or talk to yourself and remind yourself why you are doing it, what you are trying to, and what it gaming is like when you actually do the 1-3. Set a timer! If yo can’t moderate it (like me) quit cold turkey. Throw your HDMI away and take a picture of the system, put it in your closet and immediately put it up on Facebook marketplace.
Anything good = Dopamine Soooo, anything good = addiction? Are you that dumb? The NoFap fools use the same reasoning. This crazy thinking is really everywhere, huh?

It's the 2nd documentary that i watch today about gaming addiction. Am playing a full year now a specific game that consumes so much of my time. Make me feel trapped. I started to get sick of this and try to find ways to inform about this. Like were is the limit? I speak with others game user's of this game and seemed to be so attached on this that am feeling so alienated when i try to say to other's, game user's, relax is just a game and nothing else and in some point must ends.
I play video games for minimum 6-7 hours a day. I can go a day or two without it, I can temporarily “stop my addiction for a week or so, but I ultimately end up shutting myself off from the world so I can get my joy from a tv screen. I know how unhealthy it is, and I can’t count how many hours of sleep, college lectures and assignments I missed because I hide away in them. But I just otherwise feel lonely without it.
What's sad is that platforms like twitch are pretty much rewarding video game addiction. I know of people that "quit" gaming but they spend as many hours watching streams and giving streamers as much money as they (quitters) would spend on games. They are just as addicted as before.
I stream and I am part of a semi pro esports team with tournaments under their belt but I still have a life doing gaming for extended periods of time isn’t an addiction
I have several thousands of hours played on video games but I was never really addicted and never classed myself as addicted. I enjoyed playing games, I didn’t have “weene” or “detox” myself of gaming… but as I got older I just lost interest in them and did other stuff. Gaming for me is a hobby
I was addicted with video games since my youngest age, but manage to maintain a work, exercices, social lifes, girlfriends, and descent amount of sleep . So none of the symptomes they are talking about was happening. ...Until my first kid born and that's when shit started to hit the fan. Stopped go outsided with friends, no more gym, and if i wanted to still play, i had to sleep less and less (and the baby was crying during the night). The symptomes appeared immediatly, always irritated, no energy at all, didn't want to do anything but gaming. I was depressed as fuck and a terrible person to live with. I was even yelling at my baby for stupid reasons. Sometimes didn't have enough energy to stay up in transport. I realised that it was an habit for me to go to the computer when i was bored. I was just playing game without passion. Last month i stopped gaming, without even trying, i just removed all the videogames video from my youtube page and replaces them with bodyweight training and motivation video (Joe Rogan is very good). I started play guitare again and organize things for my wife and my kids. It's been a month now that i'm going 3 time a week to the gym to do some 20 minutes HIIT. I'm so tired at the end of the day and i sleep so well i can wake up everymorning around 6:30. I no longer play video games or twitching or look at stupid things on social media until 1am. I feel better now. I don't think that going cold turkey is the best way to go. I can still play a little bit of game sometimes, but i'm very disciplined and my session are very organized (1h max long). To sum it up, you can still play video games if you are disciplined and if you are priotizing the following things in order : Sleep, Healthy Food ,Family, Exercice, Social interaction, Gaming.. I don't know why i wrote all of this. Hope it will help some of you.
Please know that I feel what you've written here. Your life changes, happening unpredicted. You baby, person in your life is worth far more than a game played on PC. The game can be stopped, the PC turned off. But life doesn't stop because you wanted to achieve that next level, gain another loot box for that special weapon, etc.

Thanks for sharing I also had the same experience and I'm glad I'm not alone. ADDICTION is complicated. When it comes to explaining addiction to those who haven’t experienced it first-hand, many people still look at it as nothing more than a lack of willpower. The fact is, people don’t choose addiction. It's true, even myself I have to admit I got ADDICTED with a Chinese mobile game for TWO years!! First few months I was able to managed it, I played out of boredom (very unproductive). Made a friend in the game and unfortunately we got competitive til I can no longer discipline and control myself. One day we were just like, " Oh hey why don't we make few accounts?" Til we ended up making 25 for two years!! then worst I ended up spending money upgrading my main.. smh crazy! Instead of sleeping I'm all awake playing the entire night, it even affected my work it led to tardiness and i couldn't focus anymore. It's like being zombie at work.. i know it's so freakin stupid right?! I stopped meeting friends in real life, missed some big family gatherings and worst even work. Anyway after playing since 2017 i got all the signs and symptoms of depression my family was very worried. Then I got constant migraine, it was so so so bad like legit everyday even my eye sight deteriorated. So last January i decided to give access of my main account to a friend then took a rest for a week. Honestly it was hard at first, like an addict I got pretty bad withdrawals. Thankfully for a couple of weeks without the game I felt well and I'd say I think I finally got my SANITY back I appreciated the real world. I decided to help myself so I deleted and uninstalled the game! Hallelujah! Took me two years for my realization!!! Oh guess what..did I sell the account? NO I didn't, I gave it to a friend. Haters gonna say "oh you're dumb biss what a waste!!" but I guess it was my way of punishing myself, a closure to end the chapter of my insanity. Actually It's not just the money but its the TIME I wasted..that was my biggest regret. I know most people will be judgmental and will say, "Biss your fault!! IF only you weren't stupid and tried to discipline/control yourself. Unfortunately for me I can't defend myself, it wasn't easy i just felt stuck and trapped in a deep hole I can't get out. I actually missed the warning signs, the red flag of addiction and depression. I know I made friends in the game and it was sad to say goodbye after two years. But I realized we have common denominator and that's "DEPRESSION", different stories but the game was used to escape the negative emotion in real life. It's either the Addiction put ourselves at risk for depression or it's the depression that leads to behaviors that resulted to the addiction. It's so complicated there is no denying that. The fact is, people don’t choose addiction and depression. Before you can even begin to hope that you can explain the complexities, it’s important that you understand it yourself. The decision to try and get help for yourself or someone you care about who has an addiction and depression is never easy but with your support, they have a greater chance of overcoming this issue. Each situation is unique, but there are some general guidelines that will help. This people don't need criticism they need support. I know I can't have my two years back but at least I was able to overcome it and I'm proud I did.
All addictions become problems when lifestyle choices, circumstances, lack of discipline etc. are all factors. TV, Movies, board games, habits, sports, exercise, eating, drinking, smoking, talking (almost anything) can become an addiction. Not everyone loses control, but some do and become slaves to their addiction. Bad parenting can allow children to become so self-centered and undisciplined, they become a victim of addiction. Choice is always a factor and the addict has to want to change if they reach a state of addiction that is seriously unhealthy for themselves and others.

Addiction is bad when you are causing discomfort to yourself such as less to no hygiene or you neglect you work or even the family that is physically around you. It is also bad if you are causing discomfort to others such as playing loud as fuck at nights and you don’t care anymore about your neighbors or what surrounds you. We all have an addiction. Something or someone. We just have to balance it
Knowing friends who got serious drug addiction, gaming addiction sounds funny. Life is boring sometimes, there is no perfect person. Real sport is probably the only good addiction.
It's very hard to turn your addiction into money, bec. it looses the fun of being an easy thing to do, and you can't wean yourself long enough to commit to learn how it works. I would love if it was possible though. Anyone can share their story?
i wish i have to play video games everyday. interacting with fake people outside makes my heart ache than being addicted. the concept of it is the same as reality you strive you lose. in video games you strive you lose or win. its actually the same nothings wrong about it.

†Đean† really? Why be rude towards ones with problems like that? They don't mean to fucking be like that and I'm also mentally weak along with gaming way too much but I hate all that.
This was a good watch. Showing the progress of gaming yet evil side of industry wanting to take over productivity now sports. They can care less about health life of gamers only seek dollars and hours.
The companies that develop & sell games are in the business of making as much money as possible. They don't care about the abuse the games might cause, nor do they care if they drain your bank account.
youngstert its a gaming company not a drug factory. Game developers aren't responsible for people their stupid behaviour. They just make the stuff. If you think its a problem, regulate the stuff your fucking self but don't blame developers becouse indeed they want money for their work becouse making games costs shit tons of money. Its larger then the fucking film industry.
I was skeptical at first but I think that was a pretty level-headed analysis. Like all things, gaming can get out control but it might be less apparent if your favorite vice is gaming because you're tucked away from society with other gamers. It's a bit unpopular but I don't think pro gaming should be banned like others may think, but to reach that gaming status is pretty intense if you see how pro-LoL players do it.
For sure. I've spoken of this before, but I think part of the backlash against "gaming is an addiction" is due to the stigma and shame society has perpetuated against gamers, so they are naturally more defensive. Talked more about that here: ruclips.net/video/X-s_Co_tTKI/видео.html
Why would you assume society is something you should be spending alot of time with? Are not rich people building themselves safehavens and enclaves to separate themselves from you raving lunatics? There is no such thing as gaming addiction. The research shows there isn't. Why, I'm in my early senior years, i play a lot of video games, mainly puzzles, to help keep my mind sharp, i believe it helps me perform my job a solve problems better, a couple years ago i picked on botw, now doing totk. it is so fing enjoyable, beats the heck of watching tv and carrying on boring conversations, keeps the mind engaged, it is rejuvenating. Dont neglect my job as db architect or my physical activity, feel better at problem solving. I suppose its bad when you neglect the rest of your life, for me its been nothing but great.
For me, an enthusiastic gamer especially survival game, he will try to play the game (mostly) from the medium or normal level not from the easiest level. where in the normal mode the difficulty level will increase from the easy level and will increase the level of stress and curiosity to pass or complete the game at that level and continue to a higher level. for example devil may cry (dante) game in this game level and difficulty level is broken into many (maybe even up to a level that for me is very difficult to play (enemy 1 hit player dies)) the problem is not the difficulty level of the game or try to keep challenging or completing the game (because enthusiastic game players not only make the level a challenge but sometimes the short completion time of the game is often used as a benchmark), the real problem is when the game produces stress and curiosity to solve it. become addicted. just like shooting games for example PUBG games, an enthusiastic player will make how many kill your opponent as a benchmark (mostly) or when using inefficient weapons as a mainstay weapon and able to survive in the game. another example is the game DOTA, how a player uses heroes from various types of heroes based on strength, agility, intelligence. his curiosity arises from when the player completes each of the hero items but does not use core items instead speculates with other items that might support that hero. in the world of games many cause curiosity, anger, stress when they fail to finish the game or when friends in the team make mistakes. this feeling is the main problem that makes a game player become a game addict.
I found something in this video that I didn’t find very agreeable, the statement is basically saying all videogames start out fun and end boring or in other words fun to unfilling. Now compare this to a game like dark souls a game known for having a very big skill curve so taking from what is said this game was hard/boring to unfilling. Clearly that would not be the case for a game like dark souls and many other games.Overall addiction varys between games, to target games as a whole for addiction is other main stream trends to blame the nasty habits of gamers if you agree with me like this comment and let’s stop bull💩
I can stop playing VG for a month or more, but the problem is when I start playing I can't stop it easily and stay playing for +3 hours. Is this an addiction?
I have to admit, the media do spin really weird observations on this kind of stuff sometimes. Like, the whole "omg, look, he isn't blinking" thing. He's playing a competitive shooter. Of course he's not blinking. You don't blink playing tennis either.
I work, pay my wa, go for trips out to visit interesting places on a regular basis and have been playing video games since the early 80s (not non stop of course) never been addicted, in fact Id go through fazes of getting fed up of games and just not playing for weeks, just a stress relief now and then really.
i used to be addicted. Just the thought of quitting pains me. I was in denial and ashamed of it. Thankfully i was able to helped myself by acknowledging and accepting the truth. I couldn't get back the years i wasted but better late than never.
dude, im a professional gamer and a game developer. its not about the rush, i find it like a grind, meaning i do it even when i dont want to. thats what athletes do. they grind to get better until they are the best. thats what makes a sport in my opinion, the grind. its my job and i love it. i get people take it to far but its not a addiction its a job if you make it one. my schoolwork is straight a's and i play 4-7 hours a day, its called multitasking.
Everything is addictive. When you weigh things out, at the end of 20 years of playing video games what are you left with? Does anything pay off?? Or do you lose money?? I think that is the difference between a good and a bad addiction .
the more videos I watch about addiction, the more i realize that everything is addictive... Choose wisely?
"choose wisely" -J. Cole
Things in moderation, food, drink, sleep, exercise, TV, movies, etc. Being accountable to a daily schedule, deadlines, etc.
anything that makes you release dopamine could be addictive, video games are easy to get to and release a lot of dopamine, so it tends to be a easy choice.
finishing a tough job also releases a lot of dopamine, and some people get addicted to that, but working tends to be a lot tougher than playing games, and is therefore not the most obvious choice ;P
something tells me that i’d much rather be a workaholic than a video game addict
No, unfortunately you are very wrong. Some substances are more potent and more immersive than other like video games, tv, RUclips than lower on the spectrum would be books, comics, chess
Not blinking doesn’t mean you have an addiction FFS like what the hell

This was an excellent story that really touched home. I played them for years but I grew out of them. I look at those kids doing the e-sports and while it's great to have a new sport out there to choose from, it's sad to see the bastardization of gaming. Communication, people skills and self development become impacted and like the brother in this story, gaming is entertainment but it's also distraction that can lead to missed opportunities to develop mentally.
thanks for watching
Gaming can also sprout new addictions.
I know several people in RuneScape, Alcoholics, Stoners, all type of drug addicts, etc, litteraly most clan chats are full of people talking about drugs, NOTHING ELSE.
it's honestly so depressing to look at, that's what made me quit gaming, I'm gonna focus on school, I wanna be an engineer and build stuff in the future.
No offense man, but you are grasping at straws here. There is no correlation between being an alcoholic or drug user from playing video games. I am an engineer, and guess what! I still play video games.
Maybe people who are sensitive to dopamine are like that.
- So everything below is my point of view according my own experience)
So let's say you start to learn, for example, guitar
At the beginning it will be boring, you will have to force yourself to play, your fingers will hurt, you will want to give-up because it seems too hard or complicated , and you barely see any progress.
Now let's say you start a new video game: (Or a new drug, haha)
At the beginning it will be really exciting, you will feel like forced to play, your fingers will hurry you to get back on your keyboard, you will want to discover this new world, and if there are some challenges, it's even better.
(sometime 18 hours a day, or even more if I didn't sleep)
And also playing guitar for 8 years (I'm only getting more pleasure by playing more, that's crazy), juggling for 3 years, (same here), skateboarding for 10 years (it hurts, but feels so good to learn new tricks), painting, dancing ...
Of course I still play video games from time to time, but in a really healthier way.
If you want to see what I've learned in term of passion over the last few years, when I was not playing video games, you can check my RUclips Channel, I made a few video, maybe it will inspire you.
Cheers my friends!

You had more things to do other than playing video games when you got your girlfriend :)
Excellent...good luck in the future....
Yeah you are right, but still...sometimes video games are just so fucking great. I think its best consumed in moderation.
A lot of gamers don't want to talk ab out this issue but it is real. It's affecting me and my life is a mess partially because of it
Actually, we don't talk about it because we know for a fact that everything can be addictive if you are feeling engaged into it that you are too lazy to do other activities.

Hell no....
i would say no
I have overcome this "addiction" at age 18. but, sometimes I have desire to play with my friends some new games. So... it can be controlled/Supervised, I mean your level of addiction.

Stay safe 🖤

I agree with you :)

A good point that was made: the "why" they are gaming. I'm 26 and started playing videogames by 5. At 12, I used to play 9 to 10 hours per day. I never stopped but right now... I can't handle more than 2 hours straight (only if there are)

I cope with my addiction by treating it like a reward so if I didn't do shit I don't play. Keeps me productive but like I said I still have days where I get lost in immersion.

Anything good = Dopamine
Soooo, anything good = addiction? Are you that dumb? The NoFap fools use the same reasoning. This crazy thinking is really everywhere, huh?
@@ga35am So antagonizing...
It only applies to artificial sources of dopamine.
@@DivineLogos oh right. But the NoFap argument that masturbation is a source of dopamine is still wrong, right? Or you want to say mastubration is an "artificial source"?

Me too
Update? How are you now? I don’t think I’ll be able to ever permanently stop gaming
I see a future of millions of 30-year-olds, unemployed, out of shape and living with their parents, sitting on the couch playing video games.
yep 100%
@@Tiano0 oh shit you tell him
And you count yourself as one of those "unemployed 30 year olds"?
And also reality is that people only care about teens spending time playing videogames, but not adults watching tv all day. People need to wake up.
Ok Boomer
When they said he doesn’t even blink, he’s playing halo. Concentration is key. Parents don’t get it.
Uhh you’re not a smart one aren’t you? What parents do get is that its an addiction
Addicts always come up with ways to justify their addiction.
Say anything you want just don't get violent to your parents.
My dad told me stay home play games dont go outside cause bad guys will kidnapped me and i get stab by strangers or stuck in bus traffic
ur dad live in fear, but dont worry u can level up your social skills and unlock to dialog lines to persuade ur father to go outside
What's sad is that platforms like twitch are pretty much rewarding video game addiction. I know of people that "quit" gaming but they spend as many hours watching streams and giving streamers as much money as they (quitters) would spend on games. They are just as addicted as before.
Lol battlepasses with their "mandatory addiction or miss out" promote addiction too
when the Modern Warfare Beta came out earlier this year before final release, me and a friend played for a total of 24 hours in 3 days
and now?
If I had a twin, I would not be addicted to video games.
It’s always great to see a problem I DON’T have. I just play a little Rock Band and sometimes Tetris. That’s it.
Great to hear it's not a problem for you!
6:37 spot the snake
Hope it will help some of you.
hi Julien, glad you're doing better :)
@@kathrynsmith3417 Well said, the baby does matter infinitely more than excelling at a videogame. There can't be a decent upbringing if all that energy for raising the baby is transferred into something that doesn't ROI (Return on investment)
@@stopsignbooty4103 Truth! A baby, soon to be a child, is huge investment worth lifetime of work & caring. And its learning how to balance life, work with child care.

Most engineers are addicted to inventing stuff, that's also a good addiction

It's very hard to turn your addiction into money, bec. it looses the fun of being an easy thing to do, and you can't wean yourself long enough to commit to learn how it works. I would love if it was possible though. Anyone can share their story?

i wish i have to play video games everyday. interacting with fake people outside makes my heart ache than being addicted. the concept of it is the same as reality you strive you lose. in video games you strive you lose or win. its actually the same nothings wrong about it.
Different people are addicted to different things. Some are addicted to online gaming, smoking, alcohol, gambling, drugs and coffee. I am addicted to movies. What's wrong??
I'm turning 29 this February. I'm still gaming til' this day.

i think story based games are not additive as online games , story games is like reading a novel but online games you play to win then repeat

I appreciate the balance it showed. :)
Agree. The video, online gaming companies want to make as much $ as possible. They want their products to be as attractive, desirable as possible.
W.H.O. is corrupt and most recent DSM includes gaming addiction among addictions IN SPITE OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDIES THAT DEBUNK IT. "psychologists" that want to provide treatment to this condition are vultures manipulating the worried parents into paying him money for ABUSING THEIR CHILDREN.
Did that guy just quote hotel California? You can check out any time you like...but you can never leave?
i am addicted to heavy metal music, but computer games are fun.
though its been a while since the last day i listened to heavy metal.

Good on ya man! Nice to hear someone from NZ watching this.

Don't blame all gamers for that one person who plays videosgames instead of eating, sleeping or working.
