  • The new Volkswagen ID.3 is the company's third generation of people's car, and the first full, ground-up EV it has engineered and built, but is it a worthy follow-up to the Beetle and the Golf? Bryan subjects the car to the full AutoEV road test to find out.....

    All reviews have journos going wild with the rear window control. I must admit I think I control the rear window from the front seat about once a year so I don't see the issue.

    I've now watched several of your videos and have enjoyed them on the whole and find them informative. One picky point about the edit - you often comment about buttons and switches and say things like "you see" or "look at that", but we can't because of the camera position. It would be nice if you could edit in close ups of what you're talking about afterwards. Other than that, good job, thank you.

    Great video and at last! ......... someone demonstrated the boot space using actual luggage sizes!!! 😁
    Like most reviewers, you're not smitten with the touch interface and I'm wondering if VW may have made a mistake with this. The designers were obviously given the freedom to make their completely new segment vehicle different. Perhaps they were trying to mimic what Tesla have done?
    I must say though that in this area, (which seems to have been met with almost universal disappointment from all the reviews I've seen so far), they may have gone a step too far? I can see an argument about it being frustrating, or even too much of a distraction for some customers. My Lexus RC300h has touch slider controls for the A/C and they are frustratingly poor.
    The big software update you mentioned that's due in 2021 may address some of the issues, so we'll have to wait and see.

    Just wondering how this car might perform on icy/snowy conditions given the fact it is rear wheel drive. Traditional rear wheel drive automatics in this type of weather are usually best left in the driveway on these days. So will the ID3 be any different?

    Great review but I find it very frustrating when the most important thing that we wanna know is the realistic range… instead you tell us for 10 seconds that you are not convinced about its reliability. Surely this should be an in-depth analysis of the range of a battery; this is the most important part of the vehicle!

    Its a mixture of likes and not likes for me. I like the individual armrests on the front seats. I don't like much else about the interior. Its very nice to drive (yes I've done that) but I wouldn't buy one with that interior at the price. From a company that can do such nice seats in the past how can they present these ones? I'll bet Seat and Skoda make a better job with the platform. I'll wait for that but in the meantime I'm spending my money on a South Korean option.

    Disappointed at lack of comment on quality of interior which would be ok in a Dacia not a £35k car. The well publicised software problems also not mentioned. Over 100 cancelled 1st edition orders (including mine) on Autotrader with huge price drops there and on Carwow. I hope Skoda will produce a more finished product with an interior like an Enyaq and I’ll get that to replace my i3. Great car to drive but as a test driver not an owner.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  3 года назад

      Interesting comment. I didn't find the quality too bad on the test car, but as you say, we only have them for a few days, so perhaps its not fair for us to pass judgement on the longer term. We are definitely looking forward to the Enyaq though, and I prefer the looks of that over the ID.4.

    • @dfclips461
      @dfclips461 3 года назад

      The ID.3 demonstrates how poor and overpriced the i3 is. The drive in the ID.3 is far better with a much better chassis and suspension setup and the tech is much better - the i3 tech is previous generation BMW (everything being touch in the ID.3 is a bit marmite, but hardly the only car that’s done this). You have to spend a ton of money on i3’s to get any decent extras and the overall price is more for the i3 based on what you get in return. The fit and finish in the ID.3 is very good and indeed there are more hard plastics than the i3. Add in more room and a far superior range then the ID.3 wins hands down. Happy to sacrifice some squishy plastics.

      I was commenting on the interior quality of the car. You must go to the same opticians as Cummings if you think the ID3 is in the same league. The i3 is 7 year old tech so you can’t compare the two obviously. As for price I’m glad I cancelled my ID3 1st edition and not hit with a loss for a car that was launched 6 months before it is ready. My i3 is worth close to what I bought it for 3 years ago used. Look at Carwow or Autogefuhl and take your blinkers off. The Enyaq shows what VAG should have done with the ID3 interior.

    • @dfclips461
      @dfclips461 3 года назад

      @@funkyfin3023 I used to be a fan of the i3, have almost bought one a few times, most recently about 3 months ago (was looking at a new one). The interior just feels like any other last gen BMW, of which I’ve owned a few and are not worth the money they go for (especially with the poor range, the old tech and the far too stiff ride). Yeah, the quality is good, just aged. I find the interior on the ID.3 good too. Like I say, I don’t get passionate about squidgy soft touch material and bits of wood. I’m sure you’ll disagree with my opinion and entirely fine with that. I probably wouldn’t be able to read any further responses from you anyway, not until my new glasses arrive at least.

      There is one problem and it is with the battery. That is it! They will fix it. The software problems are small and people keep driving. On top of that, VW promise to solve those with some updates, because the car, as far as i know, has OTAU.

    The car is not close to being a reliable e-car yet. Too many issues with battery, body styling is more like a golf so not really a new design. One point all these manf keep making that their cars will be carbon neutral is sales talk, its never going to happen, the same amount of energy used to produce an e-car is the same as any other motor vehicle & that uses 70% + of fossil fuels. So much single use plastic, the interior is awful, seen better interiors in a 1960's. The best e-car I've seen so far is the jaguar i-pace.
