Your not going to be able to fit a big block v8 into a miata. My 69 deville has a 472 V8 iron block/heads That would never fit and would weigh so much it would be just stupid to do. Now like an aluminum small block v8 sure, it’s been done before.

@@JohnyRapidCarrot yes I’ve seen that and it’s pretty sweet. But the number of pistons don’t equate to overall size usually. That v12 could be like 4 liters. Where as a 472 v8 is almost double that at 7.7 liters. Dry, with out trans connected this motor weighs at a hefty 600lbs

Im from Malaysia. My definition of a “muscle car” is : the first quadrant + American car maker = Muscle Car.
Not exactly true. Muscle cars can come from other countries too, like Australia and Germany. Look at the Holden Monaro. And the C63 AMG coupe. Powerful V8’s, very practical, and look like coke bottles.

I would like to add this: To be an AUTHENTIC Muscle Car it needs to be produced in America.
Designers and producers from other countries never really used the title
"Muscle Car" or "Pony Car".
And it needs that long hood that was such a staple of a muscle car look, but Nolan purposely left these specifics out because it would've ruled out crossovers as "muscle cars".

I was kinda surprised that the RX-8, the 350Z, and the Eight-Six/BRZ weren't anywhere on the chart. I would also say that a muscle car needs to be able to be modified fairly easily. Something that can be tinkered with and tuned in your spare time.
Muscle cars should be manual too tbh, but the BRZ is way too slow to be muscle, same with the rx8. Now the 370z is a true thicc example of Japanese Muscle
“Coke bottle” comes from the 68-70 dodge chargers where there body style actually looked like a coke bottle
I thought it was from the Corvettes.
I thought it was a reference to aeronautical designs like jets with wasp-waists or flared bodies to cut drag but allow tumbling maneuvers. This was applied to car designs in the form of flared wheel-wells and sloped or sweeping rooflines... Around a time where soda fountains were popular and cars started getting sharkfins. No source, it just makes sense to me.

what i loved about these classic muscle car was the soft as hell suspension. i loved cruising hoping i just dont roll and spin out due to the sloppy weight distribution and late responding gas pedal 😊

It surprises me that noone ever mentions the chrysler 300c when talking about muscle cars. Basically a charger with a nicer interior
Being the same as a Charger in almost everything, the Chrysler Model 300 has been positioned historically next to the luxury car. That's the reason, I believe, the chart in the video doesn't cover all expensive and powerful cars that basically do not fit definition.

I have a 2008 Lexus ISF. Which I feel is a true under the radar muscle car. It has the exact formula Nolan is talking about. A 5.0 V8, 417 BHP with a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. Very quick for its time. And easy not be thought about because its such a rare and niche car. I absolutely love mine. It puts a lot of the modern stuff to shame including all wheel drive powerful crossovers. Its never gets old baffling other motorists who have no idea what it is or why they can't beat it haha. It puts the power down incredibly well.
What about the Ford falcon or Holden Commedore?
America never got the falcon/commodore experience. I'm sure Monaros would be would be in Nolan's traditional muscle car quadrant
