- We flew from Oslo to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to begin our tour of Southeast Asia. After a much needed break in KL, we rode south along the coast toward Singapore. Malaysia is a fascinating, multi-cultural country with significant Chinese and Indian populations as well as Malay. There is so much variety in the food due to these influences, and we were all too happy to sample as many dishes as we could.
While the traffic conditions in Malaysia were harrowing at times, we could occasionally find nice back roads to cycle. The people we met were extremely friendly and welcoming, and we had a wonderful start to the next phase of our world bicycle tour.

Apa perasaan kita bila melihat sebahagian daripada rakaman perjalanan mereka tergambar dengan jelas sampah dibuang merata2 walaupun kita mampu untuk elakkan keadaan sedemikian.
Sampai bila mentaliti kita akan berterusan sebegini rupa2.
Perkara mudah yang mampu untuk kita ubah.
Sayangi lah MALAYSIA Ku. 😍✌🏼👌🏼🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Komen terbaik. Memang mesej ni khusus kepada mereka yang faham bahasa kita.
Setiap minggu saya kutip sampah tepi jalan dekat rumah kampung saya. Ia dibuang dari kenderaan yg lalu lalang...
Nature’s beauty destroyed by mankind.
Susah nak ubah.Tapi negeri2 utara kurang sikit.Perlis terbaik.
Amat memalukan
From Oslo to KL must have been a culture shock! I recognised so much from KL and Melaka, a lot has changed, but also a lot has stayed the same. The street food culture is big in Malaysia (and most of Asia). Enjoying moving along with you, many thanks!
its amazing, for non-Muslims who do not understand the meaning of Adzan. You take the Adzan (Call for Prayer) part on a very accurate sentence. That is not a coincidence. welcome to Malaysia, hope both of you enjoy your moment in malaysia & safe travels
WELCOME TO MALAYSIA 🇲🇾
BE HEALTHY 💚
BE HAPPY 💖
FROM KUALA LUMPUR WITH LOVE 💖
the last time i saw ur video couple months ago, u guys in UK. now u in Malaysia. well, traffic in Asia in general is busier than in Europe, and way too many motorcycle/scooter on the road, primarily in SE Asia. i hope u guys stay healthy and doing fine. greetings from Indonesia! 👋
Welcome to Malaysia again hope both of you have amazing days ahead
A nice introduction to Malyasia Guys👍I'm looking forward to the next episode!
Welcome to Malaysia.
As a Malaysian myself I have a respect for bikepackers like you two. It is not easy to do it you will certainly face lots of obstacles and hardships throughout your journey, but it's totally worth it. I know the feeling because I had experienced it while I was bicycle touring around Tromso, Norway. And I will return to do it this coming September through October in Iceland. This kind of video is inspiring.
Ride safely and enjoy Malaysia. Thank you for wanting to go to our country. Take care!
Have a successful trip. Greetings to you, heroes. I wish I had a bicycle to travel with
Don't worry about palm plantations, it is the best oil-to-area covered ratio. Not only that, it has large canopies to cool us here compared to other oil-plant options. The thing about huge deforestation is that we are supplying it worldwide, thus with a small country like us, you can see palm plantations everywhere. The orang-utan that others are so concerned about is actually being taken care of very very neat, good. There are many sanctuaries and huge reserved forests just for them. we are a developing country, so EIA is just part of our practice. Good video recording, very happy to have you guys here though not really met you. You always looked fresh, and sweatless. I will get sunburned immediately if ride like you. (Smile)
This is so cool. Like to see your travels.
Great video and awesome adventure! Thanks for sharing
wow what a crazy difference this experience is, wishing you safe travels in se asia
Loving the content...cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hej. Just stumbled across your channel and I’m glad I did. I think what you guys are going is amazing. You both exude positivity. Playing catch up on your journey prior to Malaysia. Really enjoyed Jenny’s video on your equipment. Stay safe out there.
Thanks so much! Glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos 😊
You guys must be very very fit to do that. Bravo.
Nice post.use to drive this route in 1980's along Sandy plantations roads so to cycle this is very bold
All the best for both of your. Enjoy your journey.
16:40 BATU PAHAT is my home town but im working at Pulau Pinang.
welcome to Malaysia.hope you enjoy it and stay safe 🙏
Excellent footage. Brief, interesting narration. Cool music. Really gives viewers a good sense of what touring Malaysia on bikes is like. Really liked the way you produced this video. Must have been a lot of work, but the final product is impressive!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Welcome to Malaysia.. Safe ride guys..
First time I see this channel. Hope you guys can continue the trip to all South East Asian Countries especially to Indonesia. Greetings and Welcome ..waiting for the next video ..
Just happened to be attracted by your channel because you two were riding on a very familiar country road which I knew well to Lukut. Welcome to Malaysia. Will be glad to be your host if you happen to be in Seremban again. BTW, Pls don't link oil palm plantation to unscrupulous deforestation activities in Malaysia. There are many positive articles about palm oil industry and forest management in Malaysia. Ride safe and enjoy your stays here.
nice ride. good luck to you
Sweet ride! ❤
Nice relaxed video of a actual touring ride..

Great video! I've never been to Asia at all, so this is really interesting. Looks like the terrain is mostly flat where you went. I've been cycling in Latin America a lot and there are definitely some similarities. I'll be following you guys.
Much2 love for ur journey
Beautiful Malaysia and Riders

I think I was seeing you at johor bahru yesterday, quite tough riding under the hot sun...
We had the same experience cycling in Malaysia. Heavy traffic even on small roads and a lot of trucks.
So difficult to escape the cars 😬
nice trip..... 👍👍👍👍
very nice, always healthy
welcome to our city Johor Bahru. enjoy your stay!
Thank you! We had a great time 😊
Just incredible cycling world tour...just saw yr riding in M'sia & subscribe to give you both the support.👍✌️🙏
Keep focus on the road, safe ride.
Most fascinating cycling tour in Malaysia would be from the east coast from Kota Bharu right down south to Johor Bharu with a must stop in Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Kemaman, Kuantan, Kuala Rompin, Mersing and Pengerang. 😁👍
That's very similar to the route in our next video! ruclips.net/video/k3cZdlBSMs4/видео.html
welcome to Malaysia.
wah lepak ayza kajang makan nasi hardcore tuh... true kajang harcore kids..
Good👍
I am new to your channel and love your style of cycle touring. As an Ecology graduate of the early 2000's we were discussing palm oil and its impact back then. Palm oil is in absolutely everything and I'm only half joking about that, lipstick to vegetable stock and everywhere in between contains palm oil. Unless humanity changes drastically then palm oil is here to stay, the key is to buy sustainably if you can't avoid it. The flip side, like you mentioned is that it is big business and provides a lot of employment and income for local communities. Monocultures are everywhere, that's modern farming, that's what we humans do! Only knowledge can change it.
We rode this section south to north as part of our tour in 2014. Agree. Roads pretty busy. But lovely towns to stop at and delicious food.
The towns and food definitely made up for the traffic 👌
Dm me if you need any route tips for wherever you are now in Asia Got some great routes in japan and Taiwan.
a secret, bicycle is ban in highways in malaysia, so use federal road instead okay
Awesome ride from KL to Johor. I plan on doing a ride to Singapore from Bangkok in the next few years and cannot wait to take that journey. Did you all camp or do hotels and air b&b?
We only camped once in Malaysia, and that was in a pretty remote stretch of mountains where there weren't any hotels or towns. Hotels are generally frequent and cheap, and a shower and AC were hard to turn down after a long day. Hope you have a fantastic tour!
@@RollingExistence Thanks, you all enjoy the rest of yours and be safe!
just following your jouney in europe, welkam to malaysia.
Thank you! 😊
Welcome to Asia...
will waiting u at kota bharu Kelantan, welcome
Welcome to Malaysia
welcome to Malaysia
nice!
I really like content like this, traveling by bike, when there is content like this, I will continue to watch, in Malaysia there are cycling RUclipsrs like you, they are, Amir Arsad and Zahariz, maybe you know them.
We have heard of Amir Arsad and are following his journey, we will check out Zahariz too!
Welcome to Thailand
Wow 😮
Welcome to Malaysia my friend cyclist. I thing i saw you at Beranang last sunday morning
Welcome to malaysia
Welcome to Malaysia 👍
Thank you! 😊
Excellent!
Hi, I'm from Kuantan, Malaysia.Welcome to Malaysia. I hope you both enjoy cycling here. The roads are always full of vehicles unless you go through village streets. You should try a variety of Malaysian food and the prices are cheap compared to US dollars.
What a great experience for me to watch you guys traveling around the world
+ enjoy your stay in Johor Bahru 🙂👌🏼
Thank you, we really enjoyed our time there!
You going to have a wonderful experience. Most of West Malaysia are still green and beautiful with small towns and villages here and there to resupply for your journey. If you are a nature lover, this journey going to be memorable.
However, for security reasons, you should avoid backroads as we still have a lot of illegal immigrants and some shaddy characters in Malaysia (often using the backroads to avoid authorities). Stick to the highways (the motorcycle lanes are best and safer route especially at night).
Pontian. Welcome to my hometown.
Welcome to JOHOR
Thank you! We enjoyed visiting Johor.
KL to Johor will give you one kind of scenery. If you cycle north from KL to Penang for example, your experience shall be different. Same goes for a trip from KL to Kuantan in Pahang then to Terengganu along the beach. There are mountains and paddy fields and beautiful beaches. It will be sad if you end your trip until you reach Singapore 😢
From Singapore we rode up the east coast to Terengganu and then over the mountains to Penang, then up to Thailand through Kedah and Perlis. We really enjoyed the cycling further north in Malaysia - the mountains and paddy fields were wonderful!
Penang is overrated. Perlis and Kedah i think more beautiful
Cools
You must try Malay Food (muar satay the best, Asam pedas and Ikan bakar at Umbai Melaka, Nasi Brani at Batu Pahat)
Please come to Jeju, Jeje circular bike road is ready for you.
After the spiders in the water, I would have packed it up and went home! Stay safe out there cuz!
Haha it was pretty horrifying, not gonna lie 😱
Peace
Welcome to my hometown ,Pontian.
Culture shock and so many colours! What do you think of the food?
We absolutely loved the food! There is so much variety due to the different cultural influences. We especially enjoyed trying all the snacks at the night markets 😋
I was so engrossed in this video, that towards the end of the video, from 19:08 to 19:25, I was getting the smell of the sea wind. Very well made. Do you have other countries after Singapore on the list? What about Bhutan, India, Nepal?
Glad you enjoyed it! After Singapore and Malaysia we rode up to Thailand and are currently in Laos. Next we'll head to Vietnam. We've visited India and Nepal in the past (not on bicycles though). Maybe one day we'll make it to Bhutan!
You both are doing awesome work. Any Strava? I just finished SG to KL in 18 hours and had terrible saddle sores/blisters.
Any tips? How did you manage saddle sores?
Ride safe and continue to inspire.
Welcome To Malaysia,I'm from Ipoh Town,State Of Perak.
Please tell me more about the Ed Pratt style sun protection on your helmets? Thanks!
They are from a company called Da Brim. We highly recommend them!
Hi guys good luck for your journey i noticed you got a cool looking bicycle helmets... may i know which models are they
We both have Da Brim sun visors that can attach to most helmets. They work really well!
If not culture shock, certainly a culture transition.
👍
Great vid!
What navigation did you use?
Komoot, Garmin head unit, .....?
We use OSMand for cycling navigation, it's great at finding small roads and there are tons of POIs that you can view as well. We also have a Garmin Edge 830 but we don't use it for navigation, we mainly use it to keep track of our mileage and record our route each day.
I did the central route all the way to vieTNAM
hello thank you nice adventure as you travel and enjoy life...I love your episodes.which application do you use for navigation around the globe ?
Thank you, glad you enjoy them! We use OSMand for cycling navigation.
@@RollingExistence Thank you and safe ride i cant wait for the next episode
You should try ride from KL to Perlis. alot more beautiful scenery
Our third video from Malaysia will have video of our ride through Perlis, it was our favorite scenery in Malaysia!
@@RollingExistence Great! can't wait for the next video :)
Great video! Btw may i ask do u guys park your bike and roam around by foot at certain places? Are your bags safe?
In this video we were staying in hotels every night, so we were walking around with the bicycles safely locked up in the hotel. When we are camping like in our videos from Europe it's much harder to explore on foot. Sometimes we will take turns, one of us will stay with the bikes while the other walks around. If we want to go on a hike we will find a place to hide the bicycles in some trees and lock them up.
Oh GOD! The spider horror movie water bladder situation! Throw it in a fire! 😆
Can appreciate the being sweaty all the time part too.... After touring round Australia we settled in the Far North Tropics. You sort of acclimatize a bit, but never fully - If you pass this way you can come round and use our air con! 😅
How do you guys go about booking hotels? Do you use an app or website or just turn up to the first one you find?
Jenny was pretty close to utilizing the fire approach 😂 And we would usually search for hotels on Agoda around midday when we had a good idea of how far we'd be going. In bigger cities it was just easier to decide on a hotel online, but in smaller towns we'd sometimes just show up and that worked out fine too.
@8:13:It was not a walking Fish. It was a Malaysian river Crocodile you spotted. A very rare sighting indeed.
Any closer it would snap its jaws onto you at lighting speed.
There is actually a walking fish just above the text. A mudskipper crawling to the river.
this is my ambition to cycle around the world since last year, but how the preparation....?bring me some ideas,tq
Giving Thaipusam and the Johor Bahru Procession on the 21st night a miss?
How do you plan to make up with Eid?
Welcome to Malaysia, Will you guys be travelling to the East coast new all the way up to Thailand next?
In the next episodes we will cycle up to Terennganu, and then over the mountains to Penang and up to Thailand 👍
On top of everything else, you’re a very likeable and good looking couple.
