Great video as always! I have a doubt regarding ironbreakers. The main reason for not using them is that they can't deal enough damage, but you also say that dwarf units are mostly delivery elements for your heroes. So, in that context, wouldn't it make sense to place a killy hero in a unit of ironbreakers so you have the best of both worlds? I guess it's just a matter of priorities but my impression is that they could be pretty good competitively. I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
For me with them it’s what do you do with your core points as you can’t spread the heros out too thin into those units , breakers are an amazing unit , but they take points away from stuff we need to compete annoyingly and then leave your core vulnerable , that’s just my thoughts
Great video, my personal favourites are rangers. I put a runesmith and BSB with rune of hesitation in it. It worked really well, because people want to get rid of the rangers … but I might over committed xD. Did I get this right: If my unit of irondrakes falls back and runs into the unit behind it, it just pops out on the other side?! Don’t even need to make a leadership test? That’s neat.
I like your videos this is a very random question but could you do a deep dive video of using dwarf rangers unit. How to keep their formation, how to use different loadouts with pros and cons. Strategies on deploying the unit etc as a new dwarf player using them as skirmishers gives me a bit of headache but I understand they are a really strong core choice not to be underestimated :)
@@HZ5SW thank you :) I can definitely do that :) a super quick thing to say now is that you keep them in scout to give yourself less drops , I would normally have them in open order in a line so they can all shoot and all fight if they get charged , I would give them sheilds , I’d only give big units of them great Weopons , the only time I’d have them in skirmish is blocking off woods from the green knight :) skirmish is damgerous for us after the faq so I prefer open order :)
@@Dawiafterdark hey appreciate your tips here! Im quite a new player and don't yet know what is treated common knowledge on the topic. I thought skirmish is good as you get shot with -1 so a really helpful insight :)
@ it’s good but because we have such short legs it’s dangerous for us to be in skirmish and also with t4 and sheilds it’s hard for shooters to pick them off unless your against hi str shooting
Great channel and great content for dawi beginners like me :) I was wondering what advice you would suggest against sylvan elves? Specially versus harassing msu lists, who outrange us with their longbows…
Thank you ! Honestly they are a hard game for us , you need to be hyper aggressive , fireball thane is really good too with a crossbow works the best against elves ! Scouting a larger unit of rangers works too hyper agressively
Thanks ! I have two other questions 😅 Why a Thane for the « fireball » instead of an engineer ? 75 pts of magic item vs 50, but the engineer has CT5 (so rune of Accuracy less needed). The engineer is also cheaper and can buff a war machine for instance. Regarding the combo Anvil + marching column + drilled, for getting 18 inch move (or more with the cart!): how do you deal with the fact that if you get charged the next turn, in marching column you lose the rank bonus ? Is there something I missed here ? Thanks a lot :)
@@vincentbonnivard1214 right so the reason for run of accuracy is to shoot at things that stack minus to hit , if your playing against armies with skirmish and other rules with minus to hit suddenly your engineer is hitting on 5s , so that’s worth the extra 25 points imo , and you want to plonk your unit in front of something that either isn’t going to charge you or if it does it won’t do too much damage , like writhing 3 inch’s of a chariot don’t doesn’t get impacts or in front of a hero that wants to charge you so your lord can challenge them out and archers then start killing stuff
Thanks for the video. I love the dwarves and as a new player it is really helpful to figure out how to make them work. @15:10 you mentioned that when the gyro's Fire & Flee they would Fall back in good order. I had thought that they would be fleeing and would not automatically rally so you would need to rally them next turn or they could continue fleeing. Did I miss something? Thanks again
@@Steve-bc5vf no problem at all ! Sorry I always say that with fire and flee thanks for picking it up it’s because you only move back one d6 rather than a normal flee so my brain just goes fbigo 🤣 but yes you do have to rally after but that shouldn’t be a problem with the dawi leadership !

It’s the back row being obscured which is annoying with that , and making sure your 6 inch’s away from each end just incase they just disappear if they are charged haha
@@Dawiafterdarkthe back row can shoot fine as you have tiny gaps between the front row, and each row is half a base size offset. Also with the getting into combat when charged, if 3" gets them to behind the fighting rank are they safe?
So unfortunately as the rules are at the moment the second row is obscured so minus one to hit , but I heard on the grape vine that might be changing :) it’s 6 inches luckily as they can travel double move to snap in :)
@@Dawiafterdarkah the front row give the enemy cover from the second, lol I hadn't considered that. Where does the double move come from? I can't see reference to that, cheers

@@Dawiafterdark could they be used solely as a “reserve”. As in leave them behind a line at the back and move in when the line gets charged? That sounds kinda lame… I’m just obsessed with them taking on a DE dragon haha The imagery alone…
on the subject of rune of courage from what my group interpret the oathstone is 15 pts and dose the same thing as the rune of of courage as rules as written means you cant choose to flee as a reaction and the terror test says the unit that fails the test must choose to flee as a reaction which cancels each other out?
So this is a bit of a weird rules interaction but unfortunately a terror test would force you to flee if you failed it , and oathstone also doesn’t negate fear so I definitely think rune of courage is worth it :)
Ritchy what do you think of this strat to protect your bsb, and would it even work? You have a big unit with drilled and deploy it 5 wide, then put a King on shieldbearers in it, then put a bsb on foot in it and I believe they would have to be placed in the 2nd rank as there's no room for them in the front as he can't displace a command model, but you'll still get access to all his abilities. Then when you use drilled to redress you can go into a wider formation but elect not to move the bsb from the 2nd rank, making him untouchable.
So the only problem is as soon as your in combat you lose all the abilities he gives if your not in the front rank , how are you kitting your bsb out as you can make them ridiculously tanky , it definitely works untill you get into combat mind .
@@Dawiafterdark I could defo be wrong here but I think you only lose your abilities when you retire from declining a challenge, unless there's somewhere that says you have to be in the fighting rank to benefit from abilities. It's one of those that's bending the rules to the extreme but us dwarf players need all the help we can get!
@@MirelurkCakes so I’ve been involved in a discussion at an event about this , and it got ruled that as soon as you hit combat you cease to influence to fight but I will do some digging and see if you’ve just come up with a super play ! Let’s hope you have , by grimnir that would make runesmith bsbs viable
@@Dawiafterdark Bretonnia handmaidens have a similar rule where they can move out of the fighting rank and still confer all their benefits which might be an arguement for as well.
I recently got into old world and got my butt kicked quite a bit playing the Dawi which killed my motivation a bit. I felt part of it was our gunlines weren't as strong or everyone would just avoid getting into combat and drop me down with magic and deny the anvil of its buff. I really like the faction, but I find the lack of movement really punishing, do you have any recommendations to kind of get me back into the dawi game?
Have you tried yeeting your units ? So stollas runes on the banners to get a 3 inch vangaurd on them before the game starts , then have them drilled so they can pop into marching collum then you can move three times a turn in marching collum , if you have a cart within 6 inch’s one unit can move 27inchs turn on and another could be up next to it on turn two if you get the double move spells off , it’s a gamble but we can be really speedy
Giving irondrakes the vangaurd banner catches people out aswell because you can get in range turn one if they deploy on the line :) as you can move and shoot with no penalty , if you put burlock in the irondrakes they don’t suffer long range penalties either
@@Imperialguardftw it’s a trick that really catchs people out especially if your drilled and don’t start in marching collum , then switch into it in your turn
Interesting that you didn't rate Longbeards very high when you did the Heavy Infantry teir list with Close Order but now you love them. Has something changed your opinion or was there another reason?
So ed said I had to be objective in the ratings video , thinking about when you have to be taken in special rather than core and unbuffed, but these in royal clans buffed up with banners and a good hero in are amazing !
@Dawiafterdark hmm, I swear in the early part of the video, he said, rate them in the best way they can be taken. That may have been in one of the other teir videos he did, though. I agree though, longbeards in core are great, maybe a little expensive, but still great.
@@Xanatosaus hahaha potentially but behind the scenes I had to be objective or I would have put a lot more dwarf stuff higher 🤣🤣 I think in core with the plus one str in the flow up and charge they are a much better choice than the rc warriors , I do still rate the normal warriors some of the best infantry in the game mind point for point
@@Dawiafterdarksorry I meant, How many champions can we create with torpedos from iron drakes / breaker box? A 4+1 torpedo champion is an annoying attack target, mobile, and can be moved to areas where there is no action for the opponent.
PS I do have one suggestion....You need to say " Thats absolutely Crazy at least once per post" :) Ty :) Dont think you said it once in the last few videos :(
So wood elves are always a really hard game for us , and you have to be hyper agressive so I would yeet and get as close as possible to them as they don’t play fair gaha

Love your videos Rich.
@@JamesRutherford-c7x thanks so much mate !!
Really glad you like them mate :)
@@nonquisquan so you need to take a panic test for the unit behind but your dwarfs , you can’t fail panics hahah
@ my plan is to try and make everything common knowledge :)
Such great videos
Thank you so much !
Thanks ! I have two other questions 😅
Why a Thane for the « fireball » instead of an engineer ?
Also losing that first round of combat isn’t that much of a big deal as dwarfs are amazing in the grind

Ironbreakers with a runesmith for the AB -2 are fun but they are in the same bath as the hammerers, they are too pricy!
I love ironbreakers just can never take them competitively which is crazy because they are great
I find units of ten Rangers in skirmish formation works fine. I just have two rows of five with tiny gaps between each one
But I know if I was doing it I’d be really annoying with myself my line went 7 inch’s long haha
@@Dawiafterdarkah the front row give the enemy cover from the second, lol I hadn't considered that.
Where does the double move come from? I can't see reference to that, cheers
Damn you, Richy! I want to collect dwarves now! 😂❤
Do it !
Every unit can the the stromni redbread rune the comand rangw would be the leadership so still 9
In grand army only the hammeres can take it but in the royal clan every unit can the it
Dont thinks its a bad pick if you want 2 or 3 big bricks with big combat res
So units don’t have a command range only heros do so only bsbs can take it which is super annoying
@@Dawiafterdark i thought comandrange is leadership but if only heros then youre right the rune isnt good
What about Slayers? I know they suck but is there a way to create a monster killer that survives..?🤷
@@Spandau-Filet so ,,,, I’m actually working on a slayer army to use at events right now so il keep you posted but short answer is I think we can !
@@Dawiafterdark dusting off the orange-haired champs then!
Yeah I have a plan ! My last plan with them didn’t go well into the new chaos aj armies so back to the drawing board haha
@@Dawiafterdark could they be used solely as a “reserve”. As in leave them behind a line at the back and move in when the line gets charged? That sounds kinda lame…
I’m just obsessed with them taking on a DE dragon haha
The imagery alone…
So I lost against double DE dragon list the other day so definitely have a grudge there !!
on the subject of rune of courage
from what my group interpret the oathstone is 15 pts and dose the same thing as the rune of of courage as rules as written means you cant choose to flee as a reaction and the terror test says the unit that fails the test must choose to flee as a reaction which cancels each other out?
So this is a bit of a weird rules interaction but unfortunately a terror test would force you to flee if you failed it , and oathstone also doesn’t negate fear so I definitely think rune of courage is worth it :)
Do you have an army list including all of your favorite units here that you'd be willing to share?
Il confer it with some TO’s and see what we can come up with :)
@Dawiafterdark honestly, never knew that you can yet them that far. Seems oddly reminiscent of Gimli saying you'll have to toss me to Aragorn 😂
@@Imperialguardftw it’s a trick that really catchs people out especially if your drilled and don’t start in marching collum , then switch into it in your turn
Nobody tosses a dwarf! Hahaha
How many torpedos come with the iron drakes, would be awesome if they come with 3+ so you can make mini mobile cannons.
So you can only have one per model but they do hit orettt well so the unit is basically a mini cannon which is great !
@@Dawiafterdarksorry I meant, How many champions can we create with torpedos from iron drakes / breaker box? A 4+1 torpedo champion is an annoying attack target, mobile, and can be moved to areas where there is no action for the opponent.
PS I do have one suggestion....You need to say " Thats absolutely Crazy at least once per post" :) Ty :) Dont think you said it once in the last few videos :(
Right , for you it will be in the next one 🤣🤣
@@Dawiafterdark 🤣
4:20 how aboit wood elfs? Or thay will just run away to the side?
So wood elves are always a really hard game for us , and you have to be hyper agressive so I would yeet and get as close as possible to them as they don’t play fair gaha

@@H4b0s yeah they can but they are wounding them on 5s or 6s depending on the gyro
Iron Draaaaaakes!
Hell yeah !!
I need someone to explain this move 3 times thing he discussed under the warriors
Hi it’s called marching collum , if your unit is longer than it is wide your in marching collum and you can move three times :) and then if you strike the anvil you can do it again :) so move 6 times in one turn
They have a 3" move normally and marching column triples your movement, plus the Rune of haste and urgency from the anvil lets them move again, once more at triple their movement characteristic (because marching column). The vanguard move from Strollaz' Rune is a 3" move at the start of the game. Bugman's cart gives "During the Command sub-phase of their turn, any Dwarf unit that is not fleeing or engaged in combat and that is within 6" of a friendly Bugman's Cart (that is itself not fleeing or engaged) gains a +1 modifier to its Movement characteristic until the end of the turn." so in total:
3" vanguard move before game starts.
In command sub phase - Bugman's cart adds +1 inch movement until end of turn if they are within 6" of it
12" move in marching column.
12" move from the anvil casting Rune of Haste & Urgency.
27" total move :)
4:05 - 21" but who's counting *cough* this miscalculation goes into the book *cough*
That leaves them (in most setups) 3" away from enemy - just enough for impacts to work ;)
@@Amdor with the cart you get plus one move so plus one to each march move so you can go 27 inch’s turn one with the vangaurd banner :)
You can't march in Vanguard move, I'm afraid.
@@tranchienbinh you move 3 inches in vangaurd , then in actual move you march
