@@miniwargaming I'm not sure if Dave remembers but he called out our group, "The Court of Manlaw" in one of his old QA videos and we still talk about it today haha. We are all lifetime vault members now. We hope to be with you always! God bless!
The way i see break tests is simple: Both natural and modified roll would pass = Give Ground Both natural and modified roll would fail = Flee Mix of the two = Fall back in good order
Still dont get it. Or, to be more precise, why do we do it? Whats the differnce between give ground (you Go Back 2 Inches, the other one follows or Not, done) and Run in good Order? You run more Inches ? Seems and feels underwhelming - the chariots devastated the barbs...
56:10 an important detail to know for all veteran WFB players, overrun counts as a pursue move, thus at the end of the pursue move, you may test LD to reform. This wasn't in 8th edition, but the FAQ and Errata says that it's a pursue move and as pp 129 and 157, it allows Frenzy units to reform after overruning. If somebody else finds something against this, please inform us but this is how we understood it in our LGS
I have watched a few old world reports hoping to get back into fantasy Warhammer and this was one of my favorite. Best explanation of the rules with two great guys sharing a fun game. Thanks!
This is some fantastic quality! I am getting into The Old World a little later here, but I found this very helpful, learning the rules, and entertaining. I've watched another "How to Play" and I didn't learn much from it at all... but this video was just great! Thanks guys for putting this out!
20 years later: "I'm here today with...a random guy, I don't remember his name. Dave, I think? Anyway, we're trying out Warhammer 40k 33rd edition with standard 20,000 point starter armies-"
"Expert...with a single game" and "as long as I can Khorne forward" 😂 I like these guys so much! Very good explanation how the game works. Great video!!!
The multicamera switching between the 3 static positions, one overhead and then dynamic close ups works really well. Coupled with the lighting...if this is the new style going forward it's going to be great!
This is like the 4th time MWG make a video where they try to explain combat resolution and they make a simple thing sound SO FRIGGING COMPLICATED. Seriously guys. Three tiers of success: Roll is *over* leadership = worst result. You break. Roll is *equal* *or* *under* your leadership minus the margin you lost by = best result, you give 2 inches. Roll is *between* your leadership and your leadership minus the margin you lost by = fall back in good order. That's it. Takes 20 seconds to explain and I'm yet to meet a single person who didn't reply with ``gotcha, no problem".
"Hey you remember normal leadership checks?" "Yeah?" "First you look at it unmodified to see if you break and flee. Then if you succeed modify it and if you still succeed you give ground and if you fail you fall back."
This was a really good walkthrough/tutorial! Having real questions from someone who knows gaming but not these specific rules made it much more helpful for those of us trying to pick up the flow of the game, and it's intricacies. Two people who both understand it all makes it much easier for them to skip over little fiddly bits without explanation.
Just started watching the vid and paused after like two minutes to say the new camera angles are fantastic! Ive been a fan of MWG for a longish time, and its great to see the faces of the voices more frequently, alongside the lovely rolling screens of warriors!
Very entertaining How to Play, good job! One note to the attacks of the chaos warriors at 48:46 : Ensorcelled Weapons only applies for models with a singular hand weapon. There is a note underneath the special rules text clarifying this. The same goes for some other special rules like the beastmen Foe Render.
I think Mat forgot that Tomb Kings (and all Undead for that matter) have Regeneration saves. And I also think you have to maximise the amount of models in base to base contact. So when those Chaos Warriors charged the Chariots they should have scooted over a bit and likely would have all 5 guys in btb.
Regeneration they definitely forgot. They got teh charge right though, there's no scoot over. If Dave had more movement for the charge, he should wheel further then move forward to get more in contact, but with the 8 he had they did it correctly.
This was another step to get back into warhammer. Thank you for this it answered so many questions. Biggest request. Subtitles for people without a mic. I would love to see fancy text pop up as THE VOICE OF STEVE!
lol... great video! When I looked up from my painting at the point of "your cultist equivalent"..."eeeerr"..."I I I don't know what i'm saying!" with the head shake made me put down my paint brush and just watch the oncoming entertainment :-).
I played a few games since TOW was released and will have a gaming weekend with my old friends and player from 10-20 years ago ;) As some of them are new, I shared this video, because 1. I simply like you guys but more important 2. this is a really good introduction! Thanks :)
Great learning game guys! As a note, unless the Tomb Kings have a special rule of some kind, a wizard can only ever replace one single spell with either the lore signature spell, or a signature spell from their own army lore. I think the Liche Priest had two spells from the lore of Nehakara here? That would not be possible.
Really loved this style of Battle Report. Much prefer this style than the previous hand held style thinks it feels better when you can see both people at the same time no idea why but it does. Keep up the fantastic job you guys.
Dave dosent care about the rules and shennanigans, all he wants is to charge and collect skulls! Its fun to see every time!!! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!!
You two are MWG, everyone else is fun. but watching you two play is the core of what you guys have had going for years. It's refreshing to see it again
So...not that anyone cares.... but finished the game. Was against Wood Elves...Tomb Kings with Archers are a surprisingly hard counter against the unarmoured pointy ears... as no negatives to shooting...easy access to reroll 1s ... mean Tomb King Archers are better than Wood Elves. Chariots are brutal aswell. Love this game
I love the new multiple camera format. That being said, I wouldn't hate for there to be a miniwar gaming "retro" episode filmed on handcams in the future
Did I see those chariot spearmen negate Marauder saves without activating armor bane? Around the 30-minute mark. Either way really fun to watch! Huge nostalgia for the early days of MWG on YT, seeing Matt and Dave battle.
Shooting in first round, skelly archers have volley fire so instead of only 1st rank (5) should have been 1st and half of each rank behind (3 round up) to give a total of 8 not 5.
With regard to wheeling, I can't see anything that indicates you use the arc length for distance traveled rather than the chord length (the latter being significantly easier to measure).
Brilliant video! Have a good weekend. How have the new chaos warriors ranked up on your trays? Love the std models but have heard ranking up is a problem.
Smaller games with Tomb Kings are really a struggle to build a list. Technically, you need a Prince and a Priest, so the list played is not legal... but in low point ranges, that really becomes a lot of points in characters
It was a good tutorial but you might want to do one where both armies can break to show that. As it was fairly one sided, that aspect of the game wasn't showcased much.
I feel like this is a boxing match... And the rules and everything are being explained in the beginning... But dave is just bouncing on his toes thinking "man... i CANT WAIT TO PUNCH SOMONE"
Quick reminder: You can pivot up to 90° at the cost of 1/4 of your movement. This means a unit that moves 6 inches would move 4" forward and can then pivot 90°. This way the unit can turn way more than it could by wheeling. If it were to try the same by wheeling it would have to try and make a 90° wheel with only 2" of movement (which is likely impossible). HOWEVER! If I read the rules right you may only use wheeling as part of a march. So no marching and then pivoting 90°. You have to "pay" for the movement by wheeling AND you may only wheel ONCE during a march.
@@jolamber Ah yes, my bad. I was indeed talking about a "turn". Quote from the rulebook: " To execute a turn, all the models remain in place but are turned through 90° or 180° to face their side or rear. For every 90° it turns, a unit uses a quarter of its Movementcharacteristic."
I have a question for dispel the rule book says that it has to exceed the casting value but the quick reference says that it has to equal it. Which one is correct? Also fantastic as always been watching since I was a teen now am almost 40 keep it up :)!
Also, spoilers Matt really learned the hard way that sending a damage dealer like the tomb scorpion into an ongoing combat with a skelly blob is mostly a bad idea - they just arent build to deal with that kind of combat resolution. It would have been fine if it was on its own. Thats something relly counterintuitive about undead.

Are you allowed to park a unit within 1 inch of an impassable?

The People's Scoprion - The most electrifying construct in tabletop entertainment.
