It's probably been lost through the years, but when the Beatles were leading the British Invasion, the group that most of us thought was #2 behind the Beatles was not the Rolling Stones, but the Dave Clark Five. There's quite a little rabbit hole you could go down and discover some more great DC5 songs. Like these:
    Do You Love Me
    Glad All Over
    Bits and Pieces
Can't You See that She's Mine
    Because
    Any Way You Want It
    Reelin' and Rockin'
    I Like It Like That
    Catch Us If You Can
    Over and Over
    You Got What It Takes
    Everybody Knows

And the flip sides of some of their singles were also stellar-Hurtin Inside, Doctor Rhythm, On The Move, I'll Be Yours (My Love), Don't Let Me Down and I Miss You just to name a few.

I was influenced by Dave Clark. Played drums in various bands for 50 years, and every time I did a rim-shot roll I thought of Dave.

In 1964 this band was part of the British Invasion. Their song Glad All Over was number one . This type of music was part if our teen age years. No over the top screaming. Just good lyrics and harmonies. We only had AM radio and heard these songs so much, everyone knew the words.

One of the prettiest songs of the era. Unfortunately Dave took credit for writing it when Ron Ryan did. He also wrote Bits & Pieces & Any Way You Want It and about 10 other songs without credit. Also Dave never played drums on his records. Bobby Graham did.He told Bobby to keep it simple so he could play them live Just so you all know.

I remember when they would have request run-offs between them and the Beatles, on AM radio. If you asked most people today is this the Beatles they would say yes, the sound is that close.
Also check out the "The Lovin' Spoonful - Do You Believe in Magic", from about the same period.

Entirely different from Bits & Pieces, Glad all Over, Over and Over, Catch us if you Can. I loved this beautiful song back then still do. Actually were inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, that's how good they were.

Much of 1964-65 became divided into two camps of AM transistor radio listeners in our demographic. You could love both the Beatles and the DC5, but you had to pledge allegiance to a favorite. The Dave Clark 5 went head to head with the Fab 4 putting out irresistible dance music, pop classics, and romantic ballads. I was an enthusiastic fan, but over time, no one could match the creativity and versatility of the Beatles.
Your viewers should check out Tom Hanks’ induction speech honoring the Dave Clark 5 into the R&R Hall of Fame. He says it much better than I can.

Sarah thanks for bringing back the care free times of the 60's. Life was so much simpler then. Also the memory of my 3 older sisters going to their concert and i was so angry that i couldnt go. Dave Clark wrote some music that Freddie Mercury sang and they became great friends.

They were as big as the Beatles in the early 60's. There were the Beatles vs DC5 fans around the world. There are related videos from the musical giants talking about that era. The Beatles quit touring, lived in the studio and changed the world.

I was 12 when this song came out. On Friday nights in the winter, we would go to the ice skating rink and skate with girls from our class (what we did until we were old enough to date), and this song, and songs by The Beatles would be playing over the PA.

Thank you, Sarah, for reacting to one of my favourite songs of the British Invasion and absolutely my favourite from the DC5. Lead singer Mike Smith had one of the best and most versatile voices of the time and, between his vocals and keyboard work, he was the main reason the band sounded so good. On guitar for this song, but normally playing sax, was Denis Payton, also one of the main reasons for the great DC5 sound. Payton's growling sax provided a bottom end that few bands could match. Drummer Dave Clark played drums and was the group's weakest link, musically. He doubled as the band's manager and made some early strong decisions that brought them to the top, but also some bad ones that cost them. He wasn't a very good drummer and always used a studio musician to play on their recordings, with instructions that the drumming be kept really simple so he could then learn it. Clark was also not a very good man, paying the band as little as possible and keeping most of the money for himself. He was also known for not keeping his word.
Band politics aside, Because was written by the same man who wrote, and co-wrote, all of the DC5's biggest hits. On a handshake deal with Clark, Ron Ryan crafted some of his finest songwriting and but never got credit for his genius. When Ron found out Clark would never pay him for all those hits, he left to form his own group. After Ron left, the DC5 never reached the top of the charts again. I've spoken with Ron many times and he's one of the nicest guys you could meet. Humble and talented, he's still writing and performing today, even graciously giving me tips on my own songwriting for my band.

Another great British rock band from the 60's. "Glad All Over" was their first big hit. I had their greatest hits album. Other songs were "Over & Over", "Everybody Get Together", "I Knew It All the Time"; "Do You Love Me", "Bits & Pieces", "Stay", "Can't You See That She's Mine", "Any Way You Want It", "The Red Balloon", "Everybody Knows", "I Like It Like That", "Catch Us If You Can" etc.

Back in the early days of the British Mudic invasion The Dave Clark 5 was the only group to rival the Beatles heard to head in popularity. Unfortunately their style stayed the same and did not grow as other bands like The Beatles, The Stones, and The WHZo’s music did get to that next level of complexity in rock!

Auto Tune just means that their is no incentive to improve. Instead you are 'corrected' by a PROGRAM. That means there is no real creativity or control. What we are MISSING is LEARNING how WE do it. That's what I think, anyway.

They were the FIRST band to follow the Beatles across the bog pond to the USA and appear on the Ed Sullivan Show in March 1964. However for me today, this is one of the few songs I still like by them, most of their songs had what became to my adult ears this boring pattern of thump thump thump, and a ridiculous echo chamber. They only lasted 4 years or so, where the Beatles' music has endured like forever...because of their great writing and variety of style. And Dave Clark, the leader and drummer, was the smartest man of the bunch of most bands from that era. He would up owning al the songs and recordings and TV appearance tapes, and British reruns of music shows for years making money off them after they broke up. However I have nothing against the Dave Clark five at all, was part of my child hood. they're harmonies were great but often lost in the "echo chamber."

Pitch correction is the worst thing that has happened to music, it sucks the life out of a song.
