I just love your story telling when you show us locations such as a barrack or a mess hall! Gosh the coal bunker was a great sight. This has been such a great location with the tunnels and gun positions and in this episode the area where they lived when not on duty. With those beautiful artifacts such as wine bottles, mugs and plates the whole human side of what happens behind the scenes of search lights and guns blazing, becomes a reality. As you say, WW2 history is so much more than guns, bombs, shrapnel and cartridges. Fathers, husband's, sons and brothers were involved. Thank you HH and EE for a great adventure. A great end to a fantastic 4 parter. The quality of workmanship in those barrack foundations is just superb, even after 80 years. I don't know what it is about sight of rolls and rolls of barbed wire, it just fascinates me every time. Good job guys 👏

I appreciate you bringing the human element to this location. Mentioning that they had no choice but to go and fight is a grim reminder of the way things were over there in Deutschland at that time. Real people fought and many never returned home from every country that was involved. Hopefully we don’t have to experience war on this level again but things are getting a little tense right now in Europe. May we never forget. Thanks again
The pure vastness of this site is something to behold. It was obviously an important installation for the Germans. I wouldn't have liked to have been the soldier that had to sit in that machine gun position in the side of the cliff. It looked quite precarious. Thank you for another amazing video. OK here we are at part VIER not funf. FANTASTIC tunnels and bunkers there! 15:55 The mess hall where Bruno, Kurt, Walter and Freiderich would sit together and eat dunkelbrod mit bratwurst OR sauerkraut (very tasty) maybe strudel for desert on a special day. Chicken mit mayo a glass of Bier or wine. Then relax with their pipes, pass the tobacco around and sit and think of home for a brief time. Sharing pictures of their kinder or their wife or girlfriend Gertrude or Bette. Maybe sing a few verses of Lili Marlene? I can picture what it was like. We did this in the Falklands we had no mess hall only mess tents and we would sit around or skylarking about mock fights. Smoking a roll up cigarette comparing stories about our home towns. ANOTHER superb explore from the HH team with EE bringing history to those who cannot go there - they do an amazing job I say this many times but this IS the best organised site and channel on You Tube. Many copy this channel but NONE come close.👍👍🤏👋👋👋👋👋👋
Certainly a very fascinating site, with a whole lot of effort put into those bunkers and tunnels. I can imagine being the crew of that mg position right at the waters edge, looking out over the water, on a winters day, wondering about home, and family, and wondering who's brilliant idea was it to stick a position right here, on the waters edge, in the cold wind, with spray being kicked up by every wave, landing in your lap. Worth waiting to see this last episode from this amazing and large German fortress, they really did decide to make a fight here, must have been a very busy place during the 40's, hundreds of troops and support staff. The fighting positions and bunkers are fantastic, and the possible underground aid station or hospital, everything they needed in one place. Another fantastic adventure! You make my imagination run wild when you share you ideas about what may have happened in these areas. I love how they built the foundation of the barracks, the uniformity of placing the rocks in the base of the foundations. It's amazing how much thought and insight went into all of this. What a fantastic area. I haven't seen one of the coal bunkers before, presumably there was a wooden lid on the top. The machine gun post looked liked a great position to be in that day you were there. Must have been a rough place to be in the middle of winter though.

Simply amazing site that gives much insight into what went on here, it has to be very rewarding being able to visit places like this. Yeah not everybody agrees but we all have different interests or experience, doesn't make what you find interesting wrong. Very happy the HH team gives us an exploration of places a lot of us will never see in person.

Amazing barracks and finds I've always wondered and imagined what it was like in the events of the 1940s and the areas of constant movement maintenance on the guns keeping the fire burning for the soldiers so the they keep warm while off from there shift got too be a busy time for them
Am trying to imagine in my mind the troops at locations such as this. Seeing the soldiers around the guns checking them and doing maintenance. Going through drills to be as efficient as they can be to protect the homeland. Soldiers stocking the bunkers with ammunition and supplies needed to defend the location. And let’s not forget the soldiers laughing,singing and talking around the barracks and mess hall trying to forget for a few minutes that they are not at war. Your walking in there footsteps and showing us not only the military aspect of the location but also the human side of it.

Seeing that barbed wire still sends a cold yellow streak down my spine, I told what happened to me when I was a kid falling into my grandma's award winning rose bush. Then in the army, we had that stainless steel razor wire, man I ruined some leather gloves on that evil stuff.
Well P4 didn't let us down HH. Yes, the full content isn't just about the war machines/fortifications as interesting as they are and they are extremely interesting, but most importantly the human aspect of war. They were human beings like you and I, who felt pain, had fears, dreams, loved ones, and hope. They did not have the luxury of choosing whether to go off to war and fight for their Fatherland. We see that very thing going on today with the Russian/Ukraine war. If we had the media back then as we have today some of us would have not been so judgemental. A feeling of sadness also comes over me for a fleeting moment when seeing the Mess Halls, but is quickly replaced with the realization that it was a was a place the German soldiers did find some creature comforts, talk about their lives back home, play music, play cards, enjoy hot meals, drink beer, giving them a temporary break from war. Yes, would I ever like to go back in time and maybe even dance with some of the soldiers and listen to their tales of war and their life back in the Fatherland. Thank you HH and EE for taking us there yet again. Stay safe.
Well thank you for you and eagle I sharing this with us I'm really glad I got to see all of this but there's one thing I'm curious about when you were by the coal band I knew what that was you mentioned the name Wilhelm Reinhardt can I ask why is that who designed the call Ben or did that name just come to mind just to let you know my grandfather's name was Wilhelm Reinhardt it brought back a lot of memories for me with my grandfather dressed in his military attire you guys keep safe and keep smiling I can't wait till the next adventure and by the way I had to watch this one four times I wasn't sure of the name proud to be German
oh i see , i think i said : Wilhelm , Reinhardt etc as separate names , just as example names of soldiers names of who could have been there. What i incredible coincidence that was then. Thank you Kenneth and greetings from us.
Boy is there ever a lot to research and see there. What better place for a machine gun than right on the ocean coastline. Boy did the Germans ever dig in with all the intricate and well designed fortifications. There sure is a lot of German combat barbed wire there. Yes wonder if that mount was for a 150 cm or 69 cm searchlight or anti-aircraft gun? The soldier's Barrack was a good size. Impressed with the sewer/drainage system and the coal station for heat. They thought of everything. Germans technology never ceases to amaze me. Yes, wonder if the underground tunnel system and bunkers were maybe used as a field hospital for the wounded soldiers. They also thought of a veggie/fruit storage area. It looks like they thought of everything to make it as comfortable as possible for the soldiers. Thoroughly enjoyed that HH & EE. Thanks for going out there and doing all the footwork and researching for us.

Well P4 didn't let us down HH. Yes, the full content isn't just about the war machines/fortifications as interesting as they are and they are extremely interesting, but most importantly the human aspect of war. They were human beings like you and I, who felt pain, had fears, dreams, loved ones, and hope. They did not have the luxury of choosing whether to go off to war and fight for their Fatherland. We see that very thing going on today with the Russian/Ukraine war. If we had the media back then as we have today some of us would have not been so judgemental. A feeling of sadness also comes over me for a fleeting moment when seeing the Mess Halls, but is quickly replaced with the realization that it was a was a place the German soldiers did find some creature comforts, talk about their lives back home, play music, play cards, enjoy hot meals, drink beer, giving them a temporary break from war. Yes, would I ever like to go back in time and maybe even dance with some of the soldiers and listen to their tales of war and their life back in the Fatherland. Thank you HH and EE for taking us there yet again. Stay safe.

Well thank you for you and eagle I sharing this with us I'm really glad I got to see all of this but there's one thing I'm curious about when you were by the coal band I knew what that was you mentioned the name Wilhelm Reinhardt can I ask why is that who designed the call Ben or did that name just come to mind just to let you know my grandfather's name was Wilhelm Reinhardt it brought back a lot of memories for me with my grandfather dressed in his military attire you guys keep safe and keep smiling I can't wait till the next adventure and by the way I had to watch this one four times I wasn't sure of the name proud to be German

Boy is there ever a lot to research and see there. What better place for a machine gun than right on the ocean coastline. Boy did the Germans ever dig in with all the intricate and well designed fortifications. There sure is a lot of German combat barbed wire there. Yes wonder if that mount was for a 150 cm or 69 cm searchlight or anti-aircraft gun? The soldier's Barrack was a good size. Impressed with the sewer/drainage system and the coal station for heat. They thought of everything. Germans technology never ceases to amaze me. Yes, wonder if the underground tunnel system and bunkers were maybe used as a field hospital for the wounded soldiers. They also thought of a veggie/fruit storage area. It looks like they thought of everything to make it as comfortable as possible for the soldiers. Thoroughly enjoyed that HH & EE. Thanks for going out there and doing all the footwork and researching for us.
