I have a 2015 Thanks for the information It also works to damage your rear sensor like I did Removing my rear wheel for a Tire Replacement. I got to buy a new rear sensor.
Hi! Thanks for the hack, it worked almost well. Almost, because when ABS turned off, the check engine light turned on and FI error displayed. Did you experienced something like this? May I did something wrong? I have a 2018 DL 650 XT.
I dont recall but since my off road excursions on the 650 I learned the hard way that the rake is incorrect and nose dives the bike in dirt. so if you do a lot of off road look elsewhere.
TC and ABS are totally unnecessary if you learn to ride properly on these bikes. The 650 strom doesn't have enough power to warrant either. Nice video. If love to switch off abs totally do I can put a proper rear disc on it.
On the '16 and earlier 650 Stroms there's an Orange/Yellow wire to the ABS unit that signals the unit that the ignition has been turned on. If you splice a switch into this wire the ABS can be turned on and off on-the-fly. That way the bike doesn't have to be restarted to re-enable the ABS. The wire is a different color for the 1000's. I'm not sure if this can be done with the 3rd gen 650's though and I don't have access to a 3rd gen wiring diagram to check. I've heard it works with the 3rd gen bikes but you lose the speedometer and odometer with the ABS off. www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,8792.0.html The Eastern Beaver harness is plug and play for the older bikes, but it interrupts the main power to the ABS unit, requires a switch rated at 20A because of that, and the bike has to be turned off and back on to re-enable the ABS.
That's a clever and neat little trick that I did not know about .Well done 👏 ✔ 👍 👌 😀.
Well if I release the video of the desert road, in the video it doesn’t look bad but I was stressed out. I need to use the rear brake more.
Using the rear brake keeps the bike upright and stable 😎 👌.
Thanks for the hack...almost went off trail out in Colorado ..with Abs on while off-road...& You don't have to pull fuses AWESOME 👍
I've also read that there is a fuse for this in the fuse box so you could potentially either pull the fuse or wire in your own switch

It’s an option. Once you stall it will revert back. I need to learn to use my rear brake more.
LoL at first I read this as you damaged your sensor by following this video.. but I read it again and sounds like you damaged the sensor yourself

Does it disable abs on both weels or rear only ?
Thanks, great video
did you find the answer bruh?
I have a 2019 as well. However my question is about your mirrors? Are those stock? If no who makes them?
I'm kind of disappointed a simple on/off switch for abs wouldn't be standard on the vstrom, especially in its third generation...
Will also work on my 2018 XT.
Man!!! Thanks!!!! That’s great!!!
info about mirrors? :)
I think they are from an African Twin
How turn on ABS again?
Restart the bike
Is it will harm the bike using this method?
Gonna have to try this on my 2012.....
did it work on your 2012? thats what I have, curious
@@kevinmoore1376 not one bit. tried every which way, no dice.

You don't need a high rated switch if you use the switch to control a relay to interrupt the power to the ABS. Just get a small form factor relay.
