I'm 6' 2". I added lower pegs and a "higher high seat" to my V-Strom and am very happy with the difference, after 15,000 km. I rode a standard V-Strom 650 when mine was being serviced and I was very uncomfortable. Good video, thanks.
Adventuretech makes the best option for lowering the peg, it's a plate that retains the stock pegs/controls, etc. Rick is a V-Strom genius and makes all kinds of goodies.
Great review. I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam. I have lowered the foot pegs (required a modified brake linkage because I dropped the pegs 2 inches. But the new metal peg platforms I bought have an outer end that angles upward, so the outer end is only one inch lower than factory. or stand with bent knees
Perfect, I'm around your height at 195cm, thanks. Raise seat, lower pegs, increase bar height, loner windshield and I should be very comfy on this bike.
Good presentation but first of all - it is not so important how tall you are. What is important is what is your inseam. In my case I'm 5.11" tall with about 32" inseam. When I got my 2017 650 few months ago I installed bar risers. It was important for me for off road riding and not so much for paved roads. Second I transferred Rick's lowering kit (perhaps 3/4 of inch lower) from my 2015 650 together with off road SW Motech adjustable pegs (perhaps additional 1/2" with removed rubber inserts). For the windshield I used adjustable windshield lip/wind deflector instead of going for aftermarket windshield. And no - not MRA. Cheap Chinese copy. It works. Finally I pulled the trigger on OEM tall seat. Used one in my case. More comfortable than stock, not pushing me towards gas tank as much as the stock one and perhaps 3/4 of inch taller. I'm pretty happy with improvements but in warmer months I will also use Seat & Fly mesh seat cover. Additional 1/4 " or so higher and great air flow under your butt. No sitting in a water any more (when raining) as well.
I am 6'5, riding a 2006 VStrom 650. She has a tall windscreen and bigger off-road footpegs. I thought about modifying the seat, footpegs and steering, but I got used to the regular seating position and now I don't really need or want to modify her anymore
Hi Cosmo Accessories (Greece) have some great stuff for the VStrom including a reasonably priced (35 Euro) foot peg lowering kit. I have it on my 2015 650xt, easy to fit and drops the pegs by an inch. I also got their fork brace, radiator guard and handlebar shelf, all well made stuff
Even with the tall seat, I was no comfy. I bought an Alaskan sheepskin with a one inch pad insert, and it was a huge improvement. I could ride all day.
6’4” 260# here. Getting back into riding at 44. Haven’t ridden since I was 16 when I rode quite a bit. Riding Mtn bikes is about as close as I have been to riding in many years. I’m looking at the 650 and 80% sure about it. Your comment about the 1000 is intriguing as for the ergonomics. Thoughts for getting g back into riding with the bigger bike? I am taking a two day riding course also btw. Thanks and enjoyed the video!
I'm tall and I have a 2015 Vee. It's workable, but I do think about investing in bar risers, footpeg relocators, and a tall seat. It has a tall windshield, which I appreciate.
I've done all that to mine, made a HUGE difference. I went with the seat concepts tall, cheap bar risers and the adventure tech lowering pegs. For windscreen I went with Puig.
Oh, I’m 193 too and I’m still searching for a bike. I tried tenere 700 - it’s perfect for me however I need something less “off road”. Maybe tracer 700 or v strom…
Why am I watching this, I'm 5'7 with 29"" inseam, do have to be mindful that it is, for me, on the tall side but I get on fine with my 2012 with stock seat. Great video though... Caw!
EVERYONE raves about the 650. But if it's me and gear....maybe. But me and gear and a passenger? Nope. Now the reality is it will be mostly me riding on the street, bopping around. Some trail/gravel/dirt roads. The 650 does give almost a 10-mpg+ benefeit over the 1000.
In case Bicycle (Road bike frames) we can choose from 49 to 65 or more. Its Obvious Manufacturer have to prepare at least 3 or 4 sizes and also prepare a (Order Made Option) for tall or short people/
TBH I have bad RA and let my local shop do it for me. It’s a bitch for any size but loosen and undo all of the cable guides and go from there. It may require some adjustments or simply skipping a guide and rerouting. The other tip is to adjust your brake and clutch levers pitch, which you should do anyway, more often than not you will be rotating the switchgear forward which will provide minor cable slack.

I ordered the kit and it works great. That extra inch lower makes a bigger difference than one would think. Good advice.

Very informative! Thank you very much, i just purchased the bike last week! Such a fun bike! Hello from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Hope you enjoy it!

Thank for this! I'm the same size and scaling on what model should be my first and not too pricy bike: a used dl650 vs. an xl700v.

Thanks for the amazing video boss!!!
Any time!
Good video & edits
Keep them coming
Good morning,
I am considering getting a 650 and I am 6.4. Do you have trouble with your right foot resting on the exhaust? I have size 13 feet.
yes slightly. but you should nix the 650 and get the 800 which is a little bigger.
Why am I watching this, I'm 5'7 with 29"" inseam, do have to be mindful that it is, for me, on the tall side but I get on fine with my 2012 with stock seat. Great video though... Caw!

why are all these bikes always so clean, when mine is always dirty?
these are for video, plus keeping bike clean is overrated and boring, noone cares, bikes look rough when not washed every day
Can you do a similar video with the mt-10‽ I'm 6'4" as well and it's one of the bikes I'm interested in
I did but the camera angle is poor. But I can say the MT10 has great ergos for tall riders. No worries there.
Hi! I don't understand very welll (i'm italian!): for install the risers, is it necessary to lengthen all the cables? Thank's for your answer!

It's better to install longer brake lines. Too tight, but still works, won't work as long.
Is the tall seat as comfortable as the stock seat?
It's even better!
great review thanks
Glad you liked it!
hehe "Abby Normal".... thats a Young Frankenstein reference. classic
Has anyone ever told you you look like David Morse? :D
Remember...it's not tall you are. It's how long you are. As long as your feet reach the ground? Your OK!
I'm 5.6 it would be little bigger for me 😊
CAW
OMG 193 cm, I am 178cm , you should by yamaha tenere 700.
Im 6.2. It looks like This Bike is too small for me. You look like sitting on the toy
Yes I dont recommend the 650 if you are over 6 feet tall. Get a DL1000 or new 1050.
