    Thanks...... Richard was a complete an utter unique human with an emmense talent that humanity doesn't have the pleasure to witness but once or twice in 1 or 2 generations.... One of probably 2 or 3 regrets I have in my life ... One is that I never got to partake of this man live in performance..... the other 2 regrets.... well,.... they don't come close to the Burton............. Amen!................. Christian

    Richard Burton was so incredible. Such a distinctively brilliant performer. And fascinating personality.

    Richard Burton was a great stage presence - accountable to his physical body, good liooks, voice, Welsh accent & resonant voice. You can't judge him on the basis of this video. You had to be there - experiencing the performance, theater, etc.

    Something about his voice is perfect for Shakespeare. The tone and the diction. You can’t ignore that voice. It cuts thru you! Powerful!
    I’m thankful that someone filmed this so I can see it for myself and experience one of the greatest Shakespearean Actors ever.
    RIP

    On the contrary, I think one CAN judge him on the basis of this video--his work is riveting here, and I can only imagine it was even MORE so live.

    I concede u are right. I guess what I really meant - mean - is, precisely, that the viewer's or spectator's appreciation, Burton's, impact - would be fuller live..

      He was highly famous in his time. he chose not to be famous, FOR ALL TIME, like Elizabeth Taylor. He wanted her to have the spot light during that time. But I am putting an end to that and will have him famous, posthumously. 😊Hi, I’m Brittney Hill :D . I really enjoyed your upload! I’m living in Los Angeles county, where Hollywood is! I am homeless and currently looking for a overnight, only, shelter or a place to live… Yay, me ! My whole life, I’ve always done everything by myself, literally, so that’s why I’m super proud that I figured out my, Destiny. My Destiny is to get married to, Thomas John Ellis (he is a, famous, British, actor, on a T.V. show, in America, called, Lucifer.). I will become his Wife and a Mother (for the first time), to his 3 daughters. Then, I am also going to, finally, become a, famous, American, method, actress. The second thing in my Destiny is to be a real, live, Princess, for the United Kingdom. I was born to do all of these things :D, so it is in my blood. I’m Middle class, and I AM social climbing so I will marry the first rich man I come in to contact with, of course. HAHA! Either way my story plays out, I will end up married to, Tom Ellis. That is a promise. I’m 31 years old, I’m not just any Millennial, I’m, THAT, Millennial! You can join me wherever you see me in person :D ! See you on the big screen :D ! Family. Love. Love. Love.

    Gielgud was the best Ghost of the King since Shakespeare himself. The only role Shakespeare every played was the ghost if you didn’t know.

    Does anyone know if they are wearing microphones?

    • @routeman680
      @routeman680 8 лет назад +2

      Four years on from your question, Emily! In the 1960s even in New York I don't think they would have had radio mikes, which actors use now. There were probably mikes hanging above the stage. But classical actors in this era were trained to project their voice fully to the back of the auditorium, and would have to do this in theatres which were not equipped with sound systems.

      routeman680 No sound systems in theaters in the 60s.

    @MrRobertJameson I see. So when he read "Fern Hill" & other poems by Dylan Thomas even then he adopted the English accent? One would think he deliberately reverted to his Welsh accent in homage to Dylan.

    It's a beautiful idea for a ghost - I just wish there were more energy between the Ghost & Hamlet.... too many Ghosts enjoy talking & talking.... & poor Hamlet has nothing to do....
