Frank!!! This song speaks the exact opposite of hatred, they are being extremely ironic, playing with words and characters, with speech. The essential thing about music talks about love, that we are all the same. It is one of the most beautiful songs and contains a deep criticism sovre prejudice, discrimination, religious differences. And all this with a great mood. They marked a generation in Brazil. My generation. They are music geniuses who left abruptly, all!!

you got it all wrong! the only thing they disrespect is the hypocrisy of who hide their sexuality behind masculine, religious and all other stereotypes.
This song means, be yourself, they are not being desrespectful. They were comedians and great musicians!
In reality, they were not homophobic nor were they making fun of gays. This song was actually one of the first protests against homophobia, made by heterosexuals defending gays, showing that there are homosexuals everywhere and that being gay is natural. A family member gave a TV interview talking about the subject. Just pay attention to the things said. Thanks for your attention.
Man, the "Mamonas Assassinas" were a group of young people with a dream of making music. His lyrics were "chaotic poetry" with a great deal of comedy. They were discredited by several Brazilian music producers, until one of them (one of the biggest in Brazil) entered his studio and found all his partners laughing and having fun. There he realized the potential of boys who clown, but in a serious way, with complex music. They released few records, all hits. They had an anthological presentation on open TV, with a record audience. They caused controversy, divided opinion. Many said the music was "politically incorrect" and inappropriate for young audiences. One day, the plane where all the members were crashed. Brazil still misses the boys who dreamed big and conquered, made everyone happy with their simple and captivating way, playing with everything, showing that the important thing was to be happy.
They arent unrespecful. We love him. All of those lyrincs has a meaning. Not by chance! Hahaha
They were doing the complete opposite of fomenting homophobia, actually. The line where the singer sings "abra sua mente, gay também é gente" means literally "open your mind, gays are people too".
In Brazil, they are loved and missed. There's no bad feelings, or hatred or even homophobia, on the contraire, people all around started singing that "it was good to be gay, and gay were people just like us"... thanks for the memory.

Eles apenas brincavam com as coisas da vida não era questão de desrespeitar pessoas ou religiões. Eles apenas tentavam ser divertidos e conseguiram. Fizeram história no Brasil. Dificilmente alguém no Brasil não gostava deles. Eles eram originais e altamente divertidos.
Essa letra é incrível, eles rimaram a música toda utilizando proparoxítonas, os caras são geniais!
