This song is a joke to our friends from Portugal, for Brazilians we have a joke that Portugueses are slow to capture the meaning of what we say.
Some parts of the song are a parody of Roberto Leal Fado songs like "Bate o pé" and "Roda roda vira".
Raios(lightning, is something old Portugueses said like "dammit it" )
Fui convidado pra uma tal de suruba (I was invited to something called "suruba", it is like an orgy/gang bang in brazil, but this word does not exist in Portugal.)
Não pude ir, Maria foi no meu lugar (I was unable to go, so I send Maria in my place. Maria is a common Portuguese name)
Depois de uma semana ela voltou pra casa
Toda arregaçada não podia nem sentar
    Quando vi aquilo fiquei assustado
Maria chorando começou a me explicar (After a week, she got back to home,
she was very, very hurt, she couldn't even sit. When I saw her I got scared and crying she starts to explain)
    Dai então eu fiquei aliviado
E dei graças a Deus porque ela foi no meu lugar (Then I gave thanks to God that she has gone in my place )
Roda, roda e vira, solta a roda e vem (turn around, turn around and turn, release the wheel and come. "Solta a roda" is like a porn slang for "Make your ass easier ")
Me passaram a mão na bunda e ainda não comi ninguém (Someone has already grabbed me in the ass, and still, I didn't get laid )
Roda, roda e vira, solta a roda e vem
Neste raio de suruba, já me passaram a mão na bunda
E ainda não comi ninguém! (In this fucking "suruba", someone has already grabbed me in the ass, and still, I didn't get laid)
Oh Manoel olha só como eu estou (Hey Manuel, take a very good look at my condition, Manoel is the name of the husband and a very common Portuguese name)
Tu não imaginas como eu estou sofrendo (You can't even imagine how bad I'm suffering )
Uma teta minha um negão 'arancou' (One of my tits a black guy has "has ripped off")
E a outra que sobrou está doendo (And the other one is hurting like hell)
Oh Maria vê se larga de frescura (Hey Maria stop to make a fuss about it )
Que eu te levo no hospital pela manhã (I'll get you to the hospital by the early morning )
Tu ficaste tão bonita monoteta (You looked so pretty with just one tit)
Mais vale um na mão do que dois no sutiã (Is better just one "tit" in the hand, than two in the bra. There is a saying from France that "Better a bird in the hand than two in the bush")
Roda, roda e vira, solta a roda e vem
Me passaram a mão na bunda e ainda não comi ninguém
Roda, roda e vira, solta a roda e vem
Neste raio de suruba, já me passaram a mão na bunda
    E ainda não comi ninguém!
    Bate o pé
Hmm, bate o pé(Another Portuguese song, where you stamp your feet in the rhythm of the music.)
Oh Maria essa suruba me excita (Oh Maria, that "Suruba" makes me horny)
Arrebita, arrebita, arrebita (Turn up, turn up, turn up. In the meaning of getting hard)
Então vai fazer amor com uma cabrita (So, go and make love with a little goat. A joke where Portuguese are too many rural and men get satisfied themselves with farm animals because Portuguese women are not attractive or not available.)
    Arrebita, arrebita, arrebita
Mas Maria isto é bom que te exercita (But Maria, this is good that you get exercised)
Bate o pé, arrebita, arrebita(Stamp your feet, turn up, turn up)
Manoel tu na cabeça tem titica (Manuel, all you have in your head is bullshit)
Larga de putaria e vá cuidar da padaria (stop with your whorings, and go back to the bakery. A joke where almost all Portuguese own a bakery)
Roda, roda e vira, solta a roda e vem
Me passaram a mão na bunda e ainda não comi ninguém
Roda, roda e vira, solta a roda e vem
Neste raio de suruba, já me passaram a mão na bunda
    E ainda não comi ninguém!
Vamos lá, todo mundo dançando raios, todo mundo comigo!(C'mon, every body funking dancing, every budy with me)
Uou, uou, uou, oh Maria si deu mal vamo lá! (Hey hey hey, c'mon maria "has got badly out" / "paid the price")
Ai, como dói(Ouch, how does this hurt / it hurts)

    • @henriquekieckbusch3121
      @henriquekieckbusch3121 3 года назад +24

The explanation was perfect! "uou, uou, uou, oh Maria si deu mal" is also a joke. in the rhyme you expect a mutch stronger word like "se ferrou" (took it in the ass). but he use another word that doesn't rhyme at all.. "se deu mal" (things didn't go well).. so we laugh a lot with this "unexpected" end of phrasse.

Amazing translation even that I could see some errors in the English. like mixing past tense with participle in the translation of "E dei graças a Deus porque ela foi no meu lugar (Then I gave thanks to God that she has gone in my place )". A more accurate translation, even with the slang in mind, could be "And I thanks god that she went instead of me", using past tense and a more formal and religious way of "thanking" god, thank with the s at the end. "She has gone" is the act of leaving a place and this have happened in the past, she is already gone.
The "solta a roda" I've always have the feeling that a good translation to "porteño" could be "entrega el marron" or "afloje la cola".

  • @CanaldoVoid

There's another undelying joke in this song, it's sung with a portuguese accent, from portugal, Brasil traditionally tells "portuguese jokes" making the guy from portugal often do something stupid, so the character in this song is also being portrayed as stupid.
tl;dr he's invited to an orgy, he couldn't go, so he sends his wife instead, then she tells him what happened and says she lost one boob, the one left is hurting, and the guy uses his wisdom to tell her it's better to have one boob in hands than both under a bra.

This music is a kind of joke. They are satirical with people from Portugal and their accent. Suruba means a kind of orgia. This music is really hard to translate because there are a lot of quibble and useful phrases that just make sense to Brazilian people. This band has other songs that are amazing and understandable when translated to other languages.

This song was from a great band of 90's. They have a flash ascension but died before start the job for the second album on airplane accident. They are greater musicians (less the keyboard guy) and its a comic songs wich goes from metal to brazilian typical styles (like Forró and samba), this song is a joke with a song of Roberto Leal ( famous singer from portugal at that time). This accent of the singer is trying to copy accent of portugal (its diferent accent from brasil, like usa and england, same language, different accent).

Good morning Frank, my name is Jorge, "I speak" from Brazil and I will explain a little about this song. The killer Mamonas were a band that broke out in the mid-90s throughout Brazil, it was a stupendous success, even among children. They were originally from the city of Osasco, one of the largest cities in the state of São Paulo.
Although they spoke in their lyrics about controversial topics, such as homosexuality, religion and regional differences, they did not incite prejudice or any kind of discrimination, they only did a type of humor that until recently was accepted in Brazil.
The song is a satire on a Portuguese folk music genre (remember that Brazil was "discovered" by Portuguese) and tells the story of a bakery owner, an activity traditionally exercised by Portuguese and their descendants here in Brazil, called Manuel , traditional Portuguese name, who is invited to a suruba (a ménage), but not being able to go, sent Maria, his wife in his place. After one she returns home, all "destroyed", she couldn't even sit and he thanks God that she went in his place.
When he sings "What the hell, they passed my hand over my ass and I didn't eat anyone" means the following: The verb eat here is used not to eat some kind of food, but to be active in a relationship sexual, that is, they passed his hand on his ass and he was unable to have sex with anyone, having been at a loss. "What the hell" would be What a hell of menage. Music develops in that sense.
It is also possible to observe in the video clip the traditional Portuguese dance called "vira", and the traditional mustache worn by Portuguese people. In short, that's it. A big hug.

They were a comedy rock band. This song is a mix between portuguese Vira genre and 90's rock, about a portuguese woman that by mistake goes to a swinger/gangbang party ("suruba") in the place of her husband.

Those guys were on top of brazilians parades when they were alive, and they made something unbelievable, EVERY SINGLE PERSON LOVED THEM, NO HATERS at all! They sold 2.000.000 CD`s back in a time that it was very expensive here in Brazil. All weeks performing in a diferent TV channel with more than 40 milion spectators, and then, they died. In their top. It felt for Brazil the same feeling as 09/11 for USA!

Lol, that was hilarious! Some notes from your comments, Frank:
    - When he says "Scratch my ass", its like the closest he were from getting laid, because "Eat someone" means "fk someone"., and he "yet ate nobody" os something like that.
    - Regarding to the say "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", they sing: "One in the hand is worth two in the bra", because she lost one tit during the suruba.
    - Suruba - You guessed right! Your interpretation magic is on point, good job!
    - The band has actually really good musicians. They used to be Dream Teather covers and got tired of "serious music". You can see that on "Money" or "Débil Metal".
    - My suggestion for sometime in the future, when you fulfill all the thousands requests per day:

Oh that's so very nostalgic! They were a young super fun band in the 90s. Unfortunately they all passed away in a plane crash. I was very young and I remember every Sunday (?) we watched them on TV and kids copied and played their songs in costumes.
I know it might sound weird that kids sang songs about orgys but 1: we had no idea what it meant 2: if you look for Brazilian TV in the 90s you might be shocked with everything that was allowed and what was considered family friendly.

This song is a parody of a song by Portuguese singer Roberto Leal. Which is sung to the rhythm of Fado (traditional music from Portugal).
Once, the band 'Mamonas assassinas' met singer Roberto Leal at an airport and everyone in the band knelt around the singer and apologized for the parody. The singer was surprised, but laughed and faced the situation with good humor.

Hahaha Dude, I can't stop laughing watching your reaction. This is a band that I was a fan of when I was 5 years old. I loved it. I speak Spanish, but also Portuguese because I lived my childhood on the border of my country with the brother country of Brazil. This band played a kind of playful rock, or some kind of joke played like rock. I loved it, and a lot of people as well. You have to understand the language and expressions that are particular to Brazilian Portuguese to fully understand the humor of the lyrics. But it is great. Regards 🤘

One interesting band to react would be "O terno". Thats the band of the most talentfull singer in Brazil at this times, "Tim Bernades". React to "O Terno - Culpa", you probably wil remember of The Beatles and so much others references. (And one RAP sugestion would be Baco Exu do Blues. In his album "Blues Man" Tim Bernades made a magnific chorus with him at the music "Queima minha pele" (Burn my skin))

the most curious thing about it is that I won the Mamonas tape from my parents when I was a child, and it was common for most of the children to sing these dirty lyrics full of double meaning (or, in many cases, totally explicit hahahah)
I remember exactly how I was when I heard the news of the plane crash that killed them. And I'm sure that almost everyone who was already able to understand the world at that time remembers it too.

They say the past is a foreign country. I had this tape too (I was 9 when they died) and I remember how we (not only the children) loved this band, they brought us so much joy. It was a difficult time at the time, inflation and such and theses young people just brought joy and we sang and danced in children's parties without even realizing their meaning. Just enjoying the song. And to think that we could watch them perform on TV at afternoons, in "family oriented" TV shows. The past is indeed a strange country.

Hi Frank. The lyrics and music of this song are satirical to popular Portuguese music, a rhythm called Fado. remembering that they (mamonas) mainly made jokes with Brazilian rhythms from different states or regions. it's a play that sounds light and fun. this song in question refers to the successes songs of the Portuguese naturalized Brazilian singer Roberto Leal, who has passed away but was a great success and was even well liked by Brazilians, being considered here as an ambassador of Portuguese culture in Brazil. Roberto himself stated that despite a first fear, he considered the play very positive. healthy jokes about portugueses are common in brazil. about the lyrics, it is not the most politically correct, but we are talking about "mamonas" hehehe

    Great reaction :P
FrankValchiria, I just want to put a little more of context on what they were doing.
Mamonas Assassinas was a comedy rock band from 90's. They'd mock on everything you can imagine. Here in Brazil, there's lots of jokes about portuguese people and their culture (because historical problems we had with each other on past).
On this music, they made joke from potuguese culture (Portugal), rebuilding the lyrics of a song from a famous portuguese singer called Roberto Leal, who lived in Brazil. The original song is know as "Arrebita". Even the accent they used to sing is from portuguese culture. Even Roberto Leal had sang this version too, because it's a lot funnnier. xD
At the beginning they say "suruba", it's a gang bang. So this is the whole context of this song.
The verse that you couldn't tanslate is:
"já me passaram a mão na bunda e eu ainda não comi ninguém"
This part can be translated as:
"They already groped my ass, and I even f*cked no one"
    Or
"They'd felt up/touched on my ass,-..."
So, Manuel sent his wife, Maria, to some sort of gangbang, because he doens't knew what it was. Kind of sad actually xD
Still, there's lots of implicit language, beside of those very explicit parts
