As expressões artísticas são menores do que a vida. Não se deveria matar por causa da arte, mas eles matavam. A juventude carrega uma rebeldia que é inerente a ela e isso tb não era algo visto com bons olhos pela ditadura. Mas ele faz uma crítica às pessoas tb, com certeza.

When you put the lyrics into context everything makes sense. Belchior is talking about loss of freedom, censorship, oppression and coward people! Latin America has unstable democracies and we have problems every few decades. So Belchior is talking how things repete and we are still living like our parents!

I believe that the lyrics are a criticism of the youth of the 60s-70s who, like their parents, watched their freedom be taken by the dictatorship, doing nothing. Referring to the Vargas dictatorship of 1930-45 compared to the military dictatorship of 1964-85. it is a bitter song that questions accommodation.

Eli's died under "mysterious circumstances" of a toxic combination of drugs /overdose.

Alguns enxergam esquerdismos nas obras de Elis e Belchior. Nao poderiam estar mais errados. Elis inclusive chamava esse pessoal da esquerda pejorativamente de "patota".
Afora uma ou duas canções de cunho politico (por tendência do autor, não dela), Elis focou sua carreira em cantar os grandes Adoniran, Ivan Libs, Tom e Belchior, que também nao eram esquerdistas.
Belchior por exemplo não foi um "resistente do regime militar". Ao contrario, ele foi um critico daquela classe artistica que usava a pseudo "resistência" pra ganhar dinheiro. Suas letras criticaram fortemente o mercenarismo de Caetano, Gil e Chico, que de fato se tornaram milionários. Belchior morreu pobre, em uma casas emprestadas no Uruguai e no RS.

Belchior was a great stoic, a philosopher, an artist.
This song has been written by a songwriter called Belchior. The record is from the final of the 70’s, begining of the 80’s. The song is not literal. It is a protest against military regime, and for this reason real meaning should be hidden in order to avoid repression, torture, prison. I really don’t understand why you try to comment on a music which you don’t understand the context, the situation, the period in history. Elis is one of our most admired and respected performer. Sorry, but I thought your analysis a little bit silly.

Evelyn, apesar do contexto ditatorial, o sentido geral da letra não é esse - com exceção en passant da estrofe “Por isso cuidado meu bem/Há perigo na esquina/Eles venceram(...).
A letra expressaria, essencialmente, o desencanto de Belchior com sua própria geração, que, embalada por vários ídolos e extensa produção artística - Beatles, Stones, rock’n roll, o Flower Power californiano, Hair, Tropicália etc - se considerava no alvorecer de uma nova consciência mas que, na prática, apenas acabava repetindo o modo de vida de “nossos pais”.
Quantos aos ídolos, estes teriam se rendido à indústria do espetáculo.
(A canção SAN FRANCISCO, de autoria do John Philips e tornada um mega sucesso na voz de Scott McKenzie, traduz perfeitamente o auge da ilusão.)
Tal desilusão e a crítica à chamada vida burguesa perpassam não somente a obra de Belchior como também sua própria vida. Seu voluntário afastamento dos palcos seria a melhor evidência.

Alguns aqui comentando como se Elis fosse uma "desconhecida" nos EUA. Nada mais enganoso, ela é famosa mundialmente. Sempre foi. Se alguns youtubers fazem vídeos sobre ela, isso é porque ela já era famosa. Uma das fãs de Elis é a antiga soprano de Elvis, Kathy Westmoreland, com quem conversei certa vez e contou-me como achou incrível a sua voz. Passou a ouvi-la diariamente. Na verdade eu não acho que o pessoal creia que ela é desconhecida. Pode ser também, mas é que no início desse ano surgiram muitos reviews dela por parte de americanos. Se você pesquisar "reagindo elis regina" dá pra dar uma confirmada nisso. E não que ela não fosse conhecida, mas essas pessoas que analisam ela cantando aparentam não conhecê-la. E é legal ver nossa cultura impactando outras pessoas. Pelo menos assim eu enxerguei a situação.

A mídia esquece. As músicas não tocam mais como antes... com raras exceções. Se não fosse a interner tudo cairia no esquecimento.
@@mozartweb , ela nunca precisou cantar em ingles, ja estava muito além das divas quando elas aparecerem, as firulas e melismas que estas cantoras de hoje fazem é tecnica vocal, quero ver cantar no gogó como é o caso de trem azul, cai dentro, etc. Veja os programas de musica de hoje em dias os the voices da vida, todo mundo usa a mesma tecnica, cantando ingles é a coisa mais linda, bota pra cantar um resposta ao tempo, ou alguma coisa que clara gravou, muita gente vai bugar no primeiro acorde de dó.

you have to take in consideration the historical period: there was a strong censorship in brazil. the lyrics is full of political metaphors, basically saying that the future will come and override the past (ie dictatorship).
