    This backpack now comes with your choice of hip belt sizes, as well as pack lengths, and they have a sizing chart on their website that uses your height and inseam measurements for a more accurate fit for this backpack. Just bought mine, October 2023. Most comfy pack ever.

    I’ve done about 130 miles with my Shadowlight pack the first day on the trail it was so uncomfortable I adjusted it better and no problems at all. 4 days worth of food and water I was sitting right at 30lbs. I was also one of the unlucky ones that had the terrible squeaking noise from the frame fixed that with tape. Also have 2 holes in the mesh. One I have no Idea how it happened It is in the back mesh Lower corner by the sit pad. The second is in the front mesh completely my fault, I shoved my tent poles in to hard and it tore. Overall I am happy with the pack and like you said you really can’t get a pack for that price and weight. Happy Hiking!

    Really like all of Outdoor Vitals gear, and the company itself. Right now I am waiting for my KotaUL pack to arrive, but I am also considering picking up a Shadowlight Pack. Great review and video thank you.

    I've had this pack for about the same amount of time and totally agree with your assessment. It is the most bang for your buck you are going to get in the ultralight category for sure. There are a couple things I am not happy with though. You mentioned the water tube hole. I never use bladders so didn't have the hose issue, but I DO find myself in rainy conditions quite often and I am baffled as to why they didn't even TRY to make this hole water resistant. Just simply overlapping the fabric would've been fine but they totally blew it on that score. Also not a huge fan of having the chest strap connect in the middle. It makes any hope of doing a one-handed clip completely out of the question and takes longer to buckle. Micro seconds sure, but it gets annoying. This is the pack that I will likely be taking out on my CDT2022 thruhike so I am making mods as needed and desired to make it as near perfect as I can; which includes addressing the "bear can" strapping issue.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  3 года назад

      Ah I hadn’t even thought of the chest strap as being an issue but I can see that now. Yea the tube hole is quite big and without a pack cover I would worry about rain getting my gear wet.

    Nice review, thanks. Can you strap tent or trekking poles vertically on either side ? Or are the upper pouches in the way ?
    Your point on Belt sizing is the main reason I had to give up my beloved 2017 Exos 58 and go with the ULA ohm…..I only have a 28” waist 😕

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  3 года назад

      If you don’t put something in the upper pouch you could totally strap longer items to the side.

    Love the design of this pack. Being that it is meant for ultralight backpacking which you need to have your weight down I would agree on the 30lb weight limit if you want to be comfortable.

    How high does the frame come up to on you? I just received my 60L regular size and the frame is up to my head. If I unrolled the top it would be like a foot above my head.

    I am moving away from the heavy Osprey Aether 60l and was going to go with the Zpacks Arc Haul 62L pack but also checking this one out. I’m leaning Arc Haul over the 60 Shadow light but which one do you like better and why? I didn’t think I would like this not having the space ark between the back and pack too. Last time I was on the trial I was carrying around 35 lbs trial weight.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  3 года назад +2

      35 is a little heavy for this pack. I don’t own the Arc Haul, my friend does. If you’re not worried about money and you have a heavier base weight, I’d go with the Arc Haul.

    I’ve been waiting for a woman’s review. Not sure if my complaints were because this pack is designed for men? I do believe I selected my hip belt separate. A small pack with a medium hip belt. I agree this doesn’t carry as well crossing 30 lb. I felt like it was sagging as I hiked.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  2 года назад

      Yes thank god now you can choose the hip belt size separately from pack size. That is a must. When I carry my bear canister it throws me over that 30 pound mark with 4 days of food, so I carry my Osprey Aura when I have to carry the bear canister. Otherwise this pack is my go-to. I love it.

    Did you ever end up using the foam back for a sitting pad? I am wondering if it is a hassle to get it in and out. (Not a game changer..just wondering if I can leave my Zseat at home)

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  2 года назад +1

      I tried it. It’s not a hassle at all to get in and out but this foam is not as durable as the zseat so if there are rocks I would bring the zseat.

    Good video. Good information. As a content creator I suggest you get a good mic, perhaps a wireless lav mic. It will greatly increase the audio quality and that is more important than many people realize.

      Maybe poor mic placement or poor quality.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  2 года назад

      Rode mics are excellent quality and the mic is sitting on top of the phone that this was filmed with. I’m not really sure what the problem with the sound quality is that y’all are having. In my Mac speakers and iPhone speakers it sounds fine. The room can be a little echoey because I have hardwood floors and a huge sliding glass window/door that bounces sound around but I think it still sounds ok.

    • @TheBigBlueMarble
      @TheBigBlueMarble 2 года назад

      @@HikeOregon it's almost certainly a matter of how far away from the microphone you are. If possible you need to suspend the microphone just above you and out of camera shot.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  2 года назад +1

      Hahhaha ok. Can’t really do that. The Rode mic chord isn’t very long. When RUclips starts paying the bills I can invest in some better equipment. For now my iPhone and my canon G7x mark ii (no external mic possible on that one) will have to do for now.

    • @HikeOregon

      I drink through a hose so I can’t speak to reaching the water bottles. Your back will sweat regardless of the pack. But I will say it’s not any better or worse sweet than my Osprey Aura. I hiked in 90+ degrees with this pack.

    Great honest review. All good points. Am searching for my perfect UL pack, but honestly, I feel they are only made for young men.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  3 года назад

      Why do you say that? Do you find it's because of the cut or the fit of the pack? I am not a young man, and this one fits me very well. The shoulder straps are in a great location and the chest strap is adjustable up and down.

    • @nadiaalamo1896
      @nadiaalamo1896 2 года назад +1

      @@HikeOregon I agree with Kristy. I have a unisex Gossamer Gear UL pack and no matter how I adjust it, the hip belt rides up my hips every ten steps. I basically have to walk with my hands holding the hip belt in place. It's just made for someone with no hips (I otherwise love the pack). Did you have any problems with the hip belt riding up on the Shadowlight? As far as I can see, you're the only female reviewing the Shadowlight. I really prefer a UL pack, but a women's bag may be the only way to solve my problem, given my curvy build.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  2 года назад +1

      @@nadiaalamo1896 It sounds like the torso length on your pack might be a tad bit too short, causing the hip belt to ride up. I don't have any issues with that on the Shadowlight. The padding of the hip belt sits right on on my hip bones (iliac crest) and I tighten it before tightening my shoulder straps, making most of the weight sit on the hips. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  23 дня назад +1

      I haven't used it since my back surgery. I am unsure if I will be able to continue using it because I can feel the hardware in my back just with my hands so the lack of squishy padding in the back could irritate my hardware site. We will see. I got surgery in mid-April so I wasn't able to go backpacking this summer due to not being allowed to carry that extra weight so soon after surgery. But if I hadn't had surgery I would have used it a ton this summer for sure. I love the pack.

    You are incorrect on the sizing. You can order any size frame and mix it with any size waist belt. And the Small is 31" and under. That fits down to a child-size waist

    • @HikeOregon
      @HikeOregon  3 года назад

      The Small hip belt size would never fit a child. I have 32 inch hips and like I showed in the video I have maybe a quarter of an inch to tighten.
