The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, Ford Bronco Raptor, Lexus GX 550 Overtrail, Toyota Landcruiser First Edition, and the new Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro are all awesome vehicles.
I think the Land Cruiser also gives you a more on road and more high tech power train in terms of the full time 4x4 system. In the 4Runner there are very few trims that can be configured to have the full time system and of them I don’t believe any of them also have the rear locker. It’s a big difference in a lot of ways because you kind of get the best of both worlds. I do think it was a massive mistake to not offer the third row however
Regardless of what you buy, you’re always going to replace the tires, tune the suspension, and add sliders. For extra credit, you’re going to add metal bumpers, winch, and light kit.
I don't understand why all these people are saying the new Land Cruiser is smaller than the last 200 series. They are almost identical in their physical dimensions. It may drive "smaller" (that should be a good thing) but it isn't a smaller vehicle.
I think the actual body width is a good bit narrower than the 200 series. Looking at interior dimensions like shoulder room, hip room (and even head and leg room), and it's apparent this new US 250 is narrower in the cabin, though pushes out the fender arches for a wider track width.
In terms of overall width then yes. The new LC250 has the same width as the LC300, but slightly shorter in overall length (25mm difference) and lower body (35mm difference)
It sounds like for off-road that the 2025 4Runner will be the choice for the higher ground clearance alone. I don’t like to monkey with a vehicle in stock form that costs north of 50k
Have been thinking about this - the difference is only a half inch? If you put the same tires on both vehicles, it'd be nearly the same. Though the approach/departure is better on the 4Runner slightly
Great episode and the comparisons are awesome. Way better than other channels that just say everything is 'great' 'good' 'nice!'. I'm going LC premium. Compared to GX - far better fuel economy, easier to lift/modify without E-KDSS, more physical controls vs touch screen based, better aftermarket support in the future, no need for bigger towing capacity. Compared to new 4Runner - has full time 4wd (this alone is the deal maker), more headroom, better exterior and interior styling, less off road goodies that can/could be added to the LC.
Waiting for my GX 550 overtrail + to arrive in June . Looking forward to some beach camping, the ability to tow a decent size trailer for when I’m with my glamping style wife .
I think the price structure makes sense if you look at 4R, LC and GX more like different trim levels of the same platform with prices ranging from $44-85+. The crossover is going to be the mid 60s where you can get max off road capability in the Trailhunter/TRD Pro 4R, Max on road luxury with a GX premium, and the LC LC as a middle ground between on and off road capability.
I'm taking the GX. On a long road trip I want comfort and the ability to pass slow traffic. I know my tundra I have no second thoughts about passing on a 2 lane. My canyon AT4X i need to make sure there is no on coming traffic at all. The difference between 2 cylinders and another turbo
@mnyhomie it's the high output but a 4 cylinder doesn't perform like a 6. Also because the bigger tires on the AT4X max speed is set at 99. Seems ever time I pass a Honda, they want to try and race instead of letting you pass.
Toyota and Lexus should offer more off road options (lift kits, wheels, tires, steel bumpers, light bars, skid plates, etc.) from the factory and dealership installs.
In my opinion this vehicle is the outcome of people that requested they bring back the FJ Cruiser. It has almost all the same features + more and added space. It was a way to bring back both vehicles. Their game plan hasn't changed much since the previous 4Runner, GX460/470, and FJ Cruiser were already sharing the platform with the previous Landcruiser Prado as well. I am definitely going to look into the landcruiser once my used WK2 ecodiesel gives out.
Roman and Tommy, The caption to introduce the video says "Land Cruiser vs The World." For decades the 'world' has been offered the Prado as their mid-size Land Cruiser while the USA and Canada have had the 4Runner fulfilling the same role. Finally seeing the two side by side has really underlined an anomaly, why have the people of Kuala Lumpur and Qatar been getting a 4X4 with far more generous headroom than the Plus-Sized people of Kansas and Calgary? The latest versions just continue this contradiction with the Land Cruiser 250 offering much more space for big-boned North Americans to 'park' their baseball caps than the 4Runner. At 6'2", I know which model is top of my wish/daydream list. The next shoe to drop in Toyota's 4X4 lineup is the compact Land Cruiser FJ. Its debut is expected within a few months. We just don't know if it is coming here or not. 🤔

For me, given that there will be no 6MT available in any of the 4Runners or LC250, I would have to go for the LC250. For me it comes down to seating position; having sat in the new Tacoma it is still a lowish seating position albeit much improved compared to the previous Tacoma generation. Same engine, so I forecast a comparable MPG on both 4Runner and LC250. Same towing. And since the 4Runner Trailhunter trim is the one I like on the 4Runner side, we are already in the pricing realm of the LC250 LandCruiser trim. BTW, I 100% agree with you on the poor color choices for the base LC250!
The only reason the Heritage Edition sold well and above MSRP was due to the spectre of discontinuation in 2021. 2020 HEs were easy and cheap to come by.. But when Toyota filled everyone but saying it was done... Demand went up as did prices.
Lower demand, allows them to ramp up production and flush out initial manufacturing issues, and more attention will be given to these first models than the rest, so the higher price helps pay for that on the manufacturing side.
Having experienced this the 55,000 after the shipping fees and then random add-ons that every dealer is putting on them even if you get him an MSRP they're usually about 60
LandCruiser equals road and overlanding, Bronco equals off road rock climbing. Two totally differnt vehicles. The upcoming 4Runner looks great as well as the Landcruiser/GX and if I was flush with money I would get the GX and have a Bronco for rock climbing. I have a RAV4 Limited Hybrid and it is the noiest vehicle I have ever owned so I hope the sound levels in the trucks discussd have better sound proofing.
100% agree with Tommy on the fact that for 57k I expect a nicer interior. I’ll be holding out for the new 4runner as will the majority of normal folks. I don’t even know who the 1958 appeals to tbh.
Too many options and everything going “off road”. I’d love to take a poll of Jeep and Bronco owners and see how often or how many times they actually go off road. I went with the Pathfinder Rock Creek edition. I know it’s not in the same class but I’m also realistic with myself. Am I doing hardcore off-roading? No. Do I go camping and dirt roads, yes. Do I commute to work on a concrete jungle? Yes! And I got a regular V6 for $39,000. The SUV and Truck market is insane and has been since Covid and nothing had adjusted it’s just getting worse and my salary hasn’t gone up to match that market 😂
At this point LC doesn’t need to do much because the competition is so lousy. If they can keep mark ups to a minimum they have a winner based off reliability alone even though it’s a brand new vehicle. The Wrangler especially is hot trash
Can't wait for TFL🤙🏽 guys do the drive on the 4runner especially the trailhunter for me 4runner the way to gooo💯... just feel like @Toyotausa didn't do enough for the LC like suspension and front locker😪 shoud of came with the Twin turbo V6🤤🤤😢... 4runner getting the legendary rear window and the side rear window take it back to the classic🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
is there a reason you would want to have the 2 wheel drive of the 4-Runner vs. the full time 4 wheel drive of the Land Cruiser? I think the 4-Runner has more than enough off road capability but am thinking I might prefer to avoid the 2 wheel drive. (why: personal history, in a very very sudden bad weather situation in a prior 4-Runner - slid into some damage that I think would have been avoided if the vehicle was all time 4 wheel drive) Having an all time 4 wheel drive seems like a best option due to personal negative experience. Thinking the Land Cruiser is the choice other than of course the price difference and they hybrid power. *would prefer not to have the worry of hybrid battery future costs but seems like no choice there... Like the Land Rover Defender as well but quite concerned about the quality/dependability and costs with repairs long term. *occasional off road and some high altitude mountain roads, etc but primarily fair weather general road usage.
The idea of removable tops and doors is great until you realize you have to deal with noise and squeaks all year round whilst utilizing the actual features infrequently.
@@sunchaser999 Exactly. Ford compromised the whole vehicle just to please less than 10% of buyers. Yes, over 90% of Bronco buyers dont want a convertible top or even a removable top.
This is a horrible comment. There are tons of jeeps that are strictly mall crawlers. Bronco kills Jeep on and off road, and the tops have been reengineered and improved. What was your experience with your Bronco and what trim did you have?
Love the channel. Can anyone and I mean anyone, please give me the boot dimensions for the iForce 2.4L hybrid, length, width and height? No where is that information available. You guys in States have the model, we have zero information here in Europe. Thank you.
The grand Cherokee trailhawk seems like a great option until you get inside. The interior looks like muppet fur…. Which leaves you wanting for the interior of the summit or summit reserve interior.. did not have the same experience with the plus in hybrid. Drives quite well on road, and the 30 mile real range with regen braking on battery is quite nice…. But having owned defender / wrangler 392 / summit 4xe and bronco w/ squatch…. Defender is BY FAR the best to daily and for normal non rock crawl off road…. New Defender SE with V8 is the king…
Hybrid model power: only exists while battery is full charged. After that you revert to gas engine power. That is what you need to test drive. That is the power level you will be at most of the time.
Seems I'm in the minority but I'm my opinion the regular headlights and painted front end looks 100% better. The round headlights and black plastic front end stand econobox to me. And for that kind of money I shouldn't feel like that. And I'm glad to hear journalist saying that 50k is a lot of money. For Soo long I felt I was poverty strickin watching videos when it seemed no one batted an eye at these wallet scorching car prices
Slapping a Land Cruiser badge on a vehicle doesn't make it any better or worse than any other Toyota model with the same parts that's built in Japan. As I understand it, both the LC and 4Runner are built in the same Tahara plant... by the same people... with the same key mechanical parts. From a reliability, durability, longevity point of view they should both last just as long as each other. I just can't see the LC being more reliable or tougher. For me I'm leaning toward the non-hybrid options so it would be between the 4Runner or GX550 and that comes down to use-case and price at the time I'll be in the market.
A few thoughts… First, Roman can be disappointed with Toyota’s promo course, but 90% of owners will NEVER come anywhere close to driving anything like that course, let’s be honest. Second, the pricing on these are insane, maybe one of the biggest examples of the current “scamflation” plaguing the US market. $55k for a 1958 which is essentially a 4Runner with a different exterior and the interior of a 1987 Corolla is just kinda ridiculous. A dealer here in the Twin Cities is listing a First Edition at $82k, so much for “cheaper” or “more affordable”.
For the shopping mall factor, since the land cruiser doesn't have a third row now, would it be fair to say 4Runner and Pilot are the only real JDM options for "I have a mile long dirt road" and "I need to take four kids with me"?
Roman: I don’t care about the other world’s prado, the new Land Cruiser is the prado without the prado name😂😂😂 Don’t fool yourself, it’s a prado without diesel engine
no toyota prado anywhere in the world , there are toyota land cruiser prado which is originated from luxury version of toyota land cruiser 70 series wagon. There were many version of toyota land cruiser in the world, they were all called land cruiser.
The hybrid drivetrain on the LC results in the bed being higher. Don’t like that or the cheap interior. Both the 4Runner and GX are more off road worthy. But I like the motor in the GX more, so for me GX Overtrail.
I hate hearing journalists complain about soft material in anything that will be used off road or by a family. Heavy forbidden, we like something easy to maintain and keep clean. When they talk money, you're paying for the name? The hybrid system? The locker. Go get a Lexus if you're after that soft stuff.
America's "Land Cruiser" IS the Prado. It is the diet Coke of a sugar-free lemon LaCroix Fanta of a Land Cruiser. So talk all you want about the "Land Cruiser" 250 Prado because that's what we're getting in this "Land Cruiser". And for the record, it's no competitor to the Wrangler or the Bronco. Not even close.
Sway bar disconnect doesn't come with the 1958 model. Does it have room for 33s or 35s without a lift? As a long term Element owner, I like the boxy design of the Land Cruiser over the curvy 4 Runner. Me, Land Rover lack of quality makes it a non-starter, ditto Jeep.Having a career in manufacturing (not cars), the accountants would cheap stuff out using the term "value engineering". The "perfect" choice for me is something that can tow my small camper to Alaska, set the trailer up in Fairbanks, then head up the Dawson to Deadhorse, and over to top of the world road. Definitely RIGHT on color choice. C'mon Toyota, put some fun colors! Styling wise, Toyota nailed it with the LC 1958. Lexus grills are hideous.
Well the reason the new LC has not so premium materials, it’s bc it is what the new 4 Runner should have been. Same vehicle with a 4 Runner SR5, you would not find it odd. Since 2003 the 4 Runner was Prado based, what this vehicle is. The new 4 Runner is just a Tacoma with a cab. Just compare the weight of the doors and tell us. Toyota just took the Prado and slapped $15k and a LC badge
Not sure why you guys repeating that it is cheaper. Majority crowd looking for LC will go for mid trim which is going to cost 70K. Again comparing to previous gen does not make sense, as that one was larger with V8. This one runs on 4 cyclinder and cheaper NI battery. In terms of manufacturing cost, this is lot cheaper to make. Also LC with not so good offroad tire in this trim as well. So 70K for Toyota is not cheap.

Great episode guys
Jeep and Ford do an excellent job offering off road options and accessories.
The At4x is the highest output tune of that engine too correct?
@mnyhomie it's the high output but a 4 cylinder doesn't perform like a 6. Also because the bigger tires on the AT4X max speed is set at 99. Seems ever time I pass a Honda, they want to try and race instead of letting you pass.
More expensive doesn’t mean more comfortable my junky beater Ridgeline is comfier than any Lexus
@@RN-fx3zl is it unibody "car" vs body on frame though? Or what type of Lexus
@RN-fx3zl I used to have an RX 450H. It was super comfy because it was unibody like your Ridgeline. Body on frame is never as comfy...
If money was no object, even if it cost millions(LOL) what would you pick Roman !?! Thank you!
He'd pick the G-Wagon
GX 550 Overtrail all day every day over the LC and 4Runner
But then everyone thinks you’re a stuck up ass.
Said it before but I agree with Tommy. The 1958 should have some more nice features for 55+
Roman and Tommy, The caption to introduce the video says "Land Cruiser vs The World." For decades the 'world' has been offered the Prado as their mid-size Land Cruiser while the USA and Canada have had the 4Runner fulfilling the same role. 🤔
Asians are smaller and shorter on average than European-ancestry types.
U.S. Government regulations are the reason why you will not see the LC 300 series in the USA. Who you vote for matters.
@@adamweber1545 reason there is no 300 series here because the sequoia and LX600 already here. Stop blaming the Damm government and stop talking politics in a car video.🤫

you had 13 years to buy an LC200 yet none of you did
Roman, what happened to the long term review of the Grenadier? You all were so excited about it and made a small series about it. I am one of the Grenadier patreons that followed along. Now, it's just gone! Could you explain why you made or had to make the decision to let it go? I enjoy your content Roman - thank you...
We moved it on because we felt we had done everything we could with it. Unfortunately the views on the videos also tanked which means it’s hard to justify holding onto it. Perhaps we could feature you and your truck after you’ve had it a year😉
@@TFLtalk Makes total sense, perhaps viewer ship of such a new vehicle is a year early. It may be something to pick up again in a year or so. Yes, If I'm in your neck of the woods I would defiantly participate in a "Love or Hate my ride" episode. Thank you for the follow-up (I was one of those watching). Keep up the good work>
Loved the GX over trail. And agree with your assessment
I tow a boat all the time. The LC hitch cover is not elegant at all. Is there a trim set to make it look right?
Loved your review. 100% agree about the color options. I like the blue a lot but we already have an Area 51 Bronco. No other good choices.
The only reason the Heritage Edition sold well and above MSRP was due to the spectre of discontinuation in 2021. 2020 HEs were easy and cheap to come by.. But when Toyota filled everyone but saying it was done... Demand went up as did prices.
I think you need to compare the price to others in the same category with similar features.
They are, as the prices overlap each other.
You left off base GX. Also why not 2024 4runner trd offroad.
Because they both think the gx is too premium! 😂
Again why , why do they bring the most expensive one out first?! Dam! Let’s have the 1958 first and the Land Cruiser together .
Lower demand, allows them to ramp up production and flush out initial manufacturing issues, and more attention will be given to these first models than the rest, so the higher price helps pay for that on the manufacturing side.
Having experienced this the 55,000 after the shipping fees and then random add-ons that every dealer is putting on them even if you get him an MSRP they're usually about 60
Love the crosseed arms. Relax. Good God.
Hey! Stop making fun of 'bougie'!!!! 😄
It also bottomed out when throttle house hit that soft sand and bashed in the radiator.
The 2024 wrangler 392 arguably has the best road manners of any wrangler ever. Easily a daily driver.
Too bad JD Powers rated Ford 28th for reliability…their data comes from Ford owners. Look it up.
I would love to have the Tundra orange offered for the Land Cruiser
13:40 love the honesty of what OEM junkets are for. Say goodbye to Land Cruiser ethos…it is a mall crawler.
This land cruiser is a excellent off roader and full Majority of people never go off road Anyway.
100% agree with Tommy on the fact that for 57k I expect a nicer interior. I’ll be holding out for the new 4runner as will the majority of normal folks. I don’t even know who the 1958 appeals to tbh.
It will be cool in 15 years to see these out on the trail. Some current 3 year old kid will be out crushing it in moms old SUV.
That is the point with the LC. Meant to be customized 👍
How long is the battery going to last and how many features will you lose when the battery goes dead
At this point LC doesn’t need to do much because the competition is so lousy. If they can keep mark ups to a minimum they have a winner based off reliability alone even though it’s a brand new vehicle. The Wrangler especially is hot trash
I’d rather have hot trash on a serious trail than a 4runner on a dirt trail.
The correct answer is current 4Runner ORP with KDSS. Get it while you can.
Coming soon!
@@TFLtalk can't wait TFL got me excited with thise 4runner reviews💯💯🤙🏽
I think most people should wait and see how long these new Land Cruiser/gx 550’s last for. When they get to 200k without issues they will be vetted
is there a reason you would want to have the 2 wheel drive of the 4-Runner vs. the full time 4 wheel drive of the Land Cruiser?
17:21 Dad has it right and. Speaks truth to reality.
The Bronco is very loud and the tops are trash. Most people use the Bronco as a mallcrawler and daily driver and are quickly annoyed and disappointed.
Which means they will hopefully devalue quickly so we can buy them and properly wheel them :-)
The idea of removable tops and doors is great until you realize you have to deal with noise and squeaks all year round whilst utilizing the actual features infrequently.
@@sunchaser999 Exactly. Ford compromised the whole vehicle just to please less than 10% of buyers. Yes, over 90% of Bronco buyers dont want a convertible top or even a removable top.
Well if you get the bronco sport fully equipped it probably be under the starting price of the new Toyota 😮
This is a horrible comment. There are tons of jeeps that are strictly mall crawlers. Bronco kills Jeep on and off road, and the tops have been reengineered and improved. What was your experience with your Bronco and what trim did you have?
Would have to drive for hours to take the Defender to a dealership..... The Toyota and Lexus can be serviced by the Toyota dealer down the street.
All the same vehicles different bodies the way I see it the 4Runner and Tacomas are also land cruisers
Yeah, only really competes with bronco and wrangler just because it’s 4 x 4, but really competes with defender, forerunner internally, Gx and inos
A few thoughts…
First, Roman can be disappointed with Toyota’s promo course, but 90% of owners will NEVER come anywhere close to driving anything like that course, let’s be honest.
My wife just got a 2024 4runner. I think I have to get a Land Cruiser just so we have two different cars in the driveway 😅
For the shopping mall factor, since the land cruiser doesn't have a third row now, would it be fair to say 4Runner and Pilot are the only real JDM options for "I have a mile long dirt road" and "I need to take four kids with me"?
In Spain you get the land cruiser with a 3rd row
22:19 they will last longer after the dozen recalls that are gonna happen in the next five years for all of these new redesign vehicles.
I think that was toyota told roman , so dont blame him😂😂
I am praying that Toyota brings back the FJ name in a hardcore offroader that competes with the Wrangler Rubicon and Ford Bronco Raptor
They forgot to mention e-KDSS on the GX
they should have included 6 or 8 Aux switches and a rolling down rear window...then I would consider it
Look at the 6th gen 4Runner
Hey guys the LC 250 has 33 inch tires. Not sure why you say it has 31 inch
I think it has sizes ranging from 31.5" to 32.5"
How about a convertible FJ Cruiser? Come on Toyota! You would own the market!
The hybrid drivetrain on the LC results in the bed being higher. Don’t like that or the cheap interior. Both the 4Runner and GX are more off road worthy. But I like the motor in the GX more, so for me GX Overtrail.
The important question is whether or not you can get a widdle wadder as an option. Or widdle wights in your gwill so people think you're a waptor.
Seems like Toyota has made so many of them on the same platform that they're competing against themselves.
Thats because toyotards would never consider any other option.
The dealer’s add on is outrageous $30k so it’s not cheap
Is a 200 Series Land Cruiser, last year made, a bad investment?
Not sure why you guys repeating that it is cheaper. Majority crowd looking for LC will go for mid trim which is going to cost 70K. Again comparing to previous gen does not make sense, as that one was larger with V8. This one runs on 4 cyclinder and cheaper NI battery. In terms of manufacturing cost, this is lot cheaper to make. Also LC with not so good offroad tire in this trim as well. So 70K for Toyota is not cheap.
I want one!
The off road top tier. The better the off road capability the worse the road handling;
Jeep
Bronco
FJ
4Runner
Land Cruiser
Defender
Luxury; all good on road
Rivian
G Wagon
Lexus GX
Grand Cherokee
GREAT show gentlemen
In 2 yrs my plans:
2024-2025 Land Cruiser (should be proven by then
LC200 if new ver isn’t proven out
2021-2024 4Runner TRD Pro cuz I know it’s proven
One of these should take me into retirement
I agree iam waiting until the Toyota dealers have enough stock on hand to buy one..
In my opinion, people including myself buy Toyota for the reliability that you just aren't going to find in anything Jeep or Land Rover.
So this (Land Cruiser lite) or the LC300 that the rest of the world can get? (Or a LX600).
The "cheap" one... $70k us 😅
I dont think theres any need to apologize for calling it like it is.... with Toyota picking ( and building ) courses that it KNOWS wont have any issues getting through. Its the cheap & easy way out... We all Know it.... as do many other manufacturers whom do the same. God forbid their products should Fail in front of the whole world.... Hats off to Jeep who puts their money where their mouth is.
