I've watched Tommy grow in his professional skills so much over the years. Good job Tommy! Enjoy watching!
It’s truly amazing to see him get stronger. And confident.
He's going to catch-up to Roman at the rate he's going. Hell be 40 in the next five years
Lol: Timmy should dye his hair silver
It’s crazy watching him form into his father, they look so alike now.
I remember when Tommy first started…he was terrible. But he is obviously a fast learner as his skill set is much more refined and he is entertaining and informative. Roman should be a proud dad!
I’m beginning to think these podcasts are more therapeutic for Roman with his rants. 😂
True that
Haha
I skip past Roman when he’s on these podcasts.
@@shiftymcgee9359 Cool story

Tommy is such a pro, such a natural at doing interviews. Great job Tommy! Thanks TFL!
A few thoughts I have..
1: Glad they brought it back. Never made sense to me on why they’d discontinue an off roader when theyre so popular.
2: When you asked if it was a 55K interior is one of the reasons why the old one got so expensive. Us Americans wanted a nicer this and that and it got priced out.
3: I really can’t help but think that Nissan really need to bring back the Xterra.
4: I also am excited for the price. They’ll hold their value but I’d pick one up used.
Where do I want my money to go into? Just give me the nice hardware and comfy seats. It's a Toyota. I'll reserve the luxury stuff for my Lexus around town.
...and no fake vents. For the love of .. no fake vents.
All I want is a Frontier based Xterra. Same V6, front end, interior, but shorter wheel base and SUV format. Give me an Xterra Pro4x with skid plates and a locker.
The name "Prado" is derived from the Spanish word for "meadow" or "pasture." It was chosen by Toyota as a way to suggest the vehicle's capability for off-road driving, which often requires traversing rugged terrain and crossing wide-open spaces.
That doesn't sound very off road capable.
@Robert-cu9bm it sounds beautiful In Spanish, but we speak English here I think that's why it's called just Land Cruiser now. MERICA 🇺🇸
Toyota is not the best with name branding….. have you ever been to Tacoma?
Nor Mitsubishi, Pajero, wich means jerking off@@paulramsay6589

I 100% agree with Tommy on the 4Runner. It will be a Tacoma without a bed. Tommy offers up many reasons for this and I will throw in 1 more. The 100s of accessories Toyota has developed for the Taco, winches, bumpers, racks, snorkels. It makes economic and marketing sense for those accessories to fit both models.
They should bring back the removable top on the new 4runner.
Toyota actually has announced an estimated 27mpg combined.
I haven't seen any reviewers talking about this, but it's on the official Land Cruiser upcoming vehicles page, all the way down, under the performance tab, and there's a little plus sign for the powertrain.
Thats beyond my expectations for fuel economy and much higher than what most journalists have suggested. I hope it has a 20 gallon+ fuel tank. That would give it an impressive 500+ mile range, awesome on a long trek on the trails
I wonder what the taco will get then.
Where are you getting that figure? It's not listed anywhere on Toyota's website. It's official press release states, "Fuel economy estimates will be announced closer to Land Cruiser’s on-sale date."
I read that this is the estimate for the Toyota Grand Highlander and people are extrapolating this estimate since it is the same engine. You will be lucky to get 21-23mpg in my opinion combined.
@@DCuerpoJr Are any of my replies reaching you? I've tried a few times, but they seem to keep disappearing.
I got the number from the upcoming Landruiser page though. It's hidden in the very last picture overlooking a canyon, in the performance button for the picture.
Removable top not wanted, 3rd row not wanted. COULD use front lockers but not needed. Stay with BASIC and therefore MORE RELIABLE.
Good work guys. Your podcasts with Tommy have come a long way. They are very good now. Tommy use to just yell at Roman for an hr. 🤣
Also, if Toyota wants tothey should have every trim come standard with the round headlight, but have 50-100 dollar option to switch any trim that isn’t the launch edition to square head lights, since I think more people are likely to want the round lights even though they are single beam and not triple beam like the square lights.
It’s the new Land Cruiser Prado! It’s the same Lexus GX !! The Landcruiser is the 300 series and it’s the same as de Lexus LX.
Toyota says it's a Land Cruiser so it's a Land Cruiser. And there are 3 lines of LCs, many would say the only "real" one is the 70 Series (they are also wrong like you).
@@mechmat12345 yes 70 troopy is what id want... the car camper overland adventure rig one can build ,the LC300 like see the base models not the 3row luxury top top trim models maybe move 4runner down more basic base models tacoma base is where it started needs the 109" wb maybe 190" overall loose a lot of wt we all dont want a luxury car to go off-road
@@mechmat12345If Toyota said a turd wrapped in a candy wrapper is a delicious candy, would you believe that too?
The chemistry with these two together is great! Love it 👌
Not a toyota fan boy...never owned one. This thing is fantastic.
It seems like a good prepper vechile it has the ability to work as a power generator in a pinch, it's an overlanding/camping dream vechile too.

Tommy is absolutely spot on with the gearing in manual.
Hybrid 4Runner with a center diff.
Best looking Prado so far.👍
I think that the coffee break light is related to the time spent driving rather than the actual condition of the driver!
Roman, there is a big difference between what Ford is doing with the Bronco and what the RAV4 is. The RAV4 is the replacement for the Camry in these days of Crossover mania. The Bronco is not a replacement for the Taurus. Many people will still continue to buy the RAV4 and 4Runner respectively, they have little overlap regardless if they’re at similar price points. To put it in Truck terms, you have Raptor buyers and King Ranch buyers with little overlap like you have Denali and AT4X buyers with little overlap. Now imagine two entirely different models.
Tommy you did the best show ever! You are so awesome with your knowledge!
reckon what the land cruiser version costs. if the 1958 has heated steering wheel and heated seats, that's the one I want. they all have lockers and such I believe. this imho seems nicer than a trd pro 4r.
AGREED
4runner all the way before getting the trash of bronco… it’s gonna fall apart any time!!! Roman don’t be stubborn!!!
Crazy to think the Toyota iForceMax regular hybrid system makes 465lb ft of torque which is more than Jeeps plug in hybrid system which makes 460lb ft with their 2.0l turbo. Imagine how powerful an actual PHEV Landcruiser would be 🤔
The only thing that maybe an issue is that a top trim new 4Runner and the 1958 Land Cruiser, since they are going to be around the same price I think a lot of normal people will go with the top trim 4Runner since it would probably offer a nicer interior then the 1958 Land Cruiser and the same powertrain so I am wondering if that will in a few years cause 1958 Land Cruisers to not sell but I guess we will see what happens
My issue is that I would have to shoehorn myself into a 4runner to fit. Im 6’1 250lbs and long torso. I can fit into all previous LC models including the 80 series that I currently own. LC’s have more interior room which is more accommodating for us clydesdales. Thats why I will go with a LC over a 4R. I have no choice if I dont want to look like a circus bear.
@@chakaman6361 the 2024 Tacoma, supposedly fixed the seating position issue I haven’t sat in it yet but if that’s the case, they’ll probably fix the seating position in the 4Runner since I forget who did it but someone did a video at the Tacoma reveal and had someone who is like 6 foot three sit in it, and he sat in and got in and out of the 2024 Tacoma, no issues, and he wasn’t eating his knees, since that’s how I feel like in the current Tacomas/ 4runners
Loving the Roman Rants. Tommy playing the good cop. Love it.
Is there any advantage the square headlights have on the Landcruiser over the round headlights on the 1958 model? Also is there a sunroof of any kind offered on the 1958 model?
All over the Caribbean, lightly honking the horn a few times is expected. Drivers do it going around blind corners, when passing pedestrians, and for other scenarios. It's considered safe and courteous.
I remember that from a vacation to the Bahamas in the 90s. The taxi driver just had his hand hovering over the horn the whole time. It was hilarious.
I don't know about mark ups. The new CEO is not going to tolerate the LC launch going sideways due to greed. That said I placed a deposit on a LC 1st edition at MSRP (last week). You can find dealers who are not looking to gouge or be shortsighted. I also was lucky to get an 1794 Tundra at MSRP as well. It took time but those dealers are out there.
It depends where you live. I live in Nevada and am confident there will be $5-10k markups at every dealer within 200 miles. Toyota has little power to stop price gouging.
Caveat- I generally like the new LC- style, features, price. I think it’s interesting how many commenters seem to hate it but car reviewers who’ve seen it in person love it.
Everyone in the comment sections love the new land cruiser .only ones who post some negative comments are hardcore enthusiasts and people who dont live in the reality
@@ISHANTth1lq- we wanted a/the LC 200 and now LC 300 more utilitarian like other markets, than overpriced {sequoia TRD PRO } with 3 rows of leather ,2 sunroofs and 2nd row ent screens and luxury car bits a S.U.V . Utility is its middle name just saying. think when we see new LC in person most will like it or move up to GX550 overtrail
@@youtubecarspottersguide1 👍
@@ISHANTth1lq- Not sure. I think what LC is offering in capability over 4Runner? At a far cheaper price 4Runner offers similar capability and features which includes AT tyre which is available only in top trim of LC which is supposed to be ultimate offroader
@@ISHANTth1lq- The USP of LC is offroad capability, it is not luxury car. No one buys LC for its luxury.
Great job, Tommy! Your coverage was so informative and interesting! I really liked the interview with the museum staff member who shared interesting stories. If the Toyota 4Runner was based on the Lexus GX, which is the Prado in other countries, and now the new Land Cruiser Prado is a trim version of the Lexus GX, then what will the new 4Runner be? If the wheelbase of the Land Cruiser Prado is considered to be ideal for on and off-road driving, then will the 4Runner have the same wheelbase?
Maybe Lexus GX is based on the Prado which has been around much longer.
4runner needs to keep the 109"wheel base ,the best trail rig we have 2nd is same wb 109" GX 460 ( prado )v8 gas hog 3 row luxury car, change the grille,no 3rd row,lot of us could live with 10mpg off road, new 4runner maybe it will go to the tacoma line ,but will it not be built at the tahara factory in Japan if it becomes part of the tacoma line ?? wait and see my choice is the new GX550 overtrial but the base 1958 if it had. rack and a white top grey steelies
I don't think Toyota will give you a removable top without bringing the FJ back.
I’m really thinking of trading in my 2023 Bronco Badlands that I got 4 months ago for the 1958 Land Cruiser but will hope they come out with some old throwback paint colors
That's the American way, piss away your money to trading and depreciation. Smart money move. Not.
Loving the est 27mpg on the Toyota site!!
Tommy, I didn't catch Jarards RUclips channel, I found the others that you spoke to at the beginning of the Land Cruiser showing before you walked in. thank you .. awesome video by the way!
It was refreshing to see you two, this felt very natural. Continue with the rants.
How refreshing..... Americans getting geeked out at a truck that is smaller and cheaper than the outgoing model. What's going on?🤔
Not everyone is geeking out over it. I find it incredibly disappointing.
Well, considering this is the first vehicle I can think of that was huge and overpriced, and was replaced by something reasonably sized and less expensive. As a truck owner I would welcome a 1/2 ton that wasn’t 8ft wide and and so tall you can’t reach in the bed. If it was also sub 45k it wouldn’t break my heart either.
@winstonjunior .you are right and i agree
Great job on the coverage, Tommy!
Not sure if I have seen it mentioned, but who is the stock suspension vendor for the Land Cruiser and first edition trims?
I think Tommy's right-on. We'll see.
That's pretty cool running into the people behind other youtube channels.
Agree with Stephen about the round headlight.
I was so happy to see the whole RUclips crew
Great Video (as you always do ) - and loving the Father/Son counter point. Tommy's take on the next gen 4 Runner is interesting - and in keeping with nuthin' but retro thinking going on in the industry. I wonder if Ford had/has this debate with the long term Aussie Everest... Last thought - is Bronco really a competitor with 4Runner? isn't it more of a Wrangler fighter?
There are 3 mid sized body in frame SUVs in the USA: Wrangler, bronco, and 4runner (and technically GX but that are luxury so not the same). Plenty of people cross shop them and they all sell well.
@@mechmat12345 I agree that these are cross shopped. I guess I’m still amazed by the Wrangler aftermarket and it seems the Ford has attempted some targeted solutions straight at that focused customer. And yup - 4Runner has a large aftermarket too…but not as intense ; at least from what I see on the streets. 4 Runners are currently cross shopped by unibody SUV buyers (like Explorer or even Highlander buyers) - that don’t happen with Wrangler buyers…
jump seats are a silly gimmick, not useful for anything and take up valuable cargo space
Early morning rants…..get Roman a donut….hangry
Safe driving methods state that you should "leave yourself an out". "Leave yourself an out" means at a stop sign or a traffic light you should leave enough space between you and the car ahead of you so that if the car ahead of you can't move you would be able to turn left or right and get around them. If you expect them to move so you can get into the turn lane and cause them to be too close to the car ahead of them, you are expecting them to be unsafe so you could turn right.
I really enjoyed Tommy talking to all the other youtubers
Tommy thinking " God how long is he gonna go on for?"lol
I think you are right Tommy about the new 4runner being a taco with a top and it be removable like the bronco
Thank goodness Tommy went on this launch. Of course Roman had to put in his “squirrel“ 🐕.
I have a 4runner and I can tell it is not a thirsty engine like you say. It makes 21 on highways and 18 on daily drive. I don’t see the point of hybrid if it does the same mileage
TFL should do more collabs
Tommy bringing me back. Well done and keep up the great work.
Absolutely Tommy! I've got a 97 Daihatsu Mira TR-XX that's a blast because I shift through all 5 gears to get to 45 mph 😂😂
My wife usually just yells, "It's grrreeeeen. You can gooo."
I don't wait to help inattentive driver know they need to or could move to help those behind them. I do quick, short horn taps that are not rude to get attention and is usually works. I repeat frequency by double quick tap the horn until I am finished with being polite and go to longer horn bumps and then to full time horn just to say "you're a crap and inattentive dork that shouldn't be on the road"
I've had a bunch of 2l turbos... this with the hybrid backup will be just fine as the electric will fill in the low end nicely. Besides, with a few mods, the turbos can really crank out the power. (I also have quad cam v8s and still think the turbo hybrid will be better on and off road). I've got the 1958 in the Meteor Shower color on order. I'd like some 17" alloys that look like steelies lol.
That rant is informative as I always thought you could turn right on red as long as the road is clear but never quite understood why there were the random, do not turn right on red. Now I know it is for where the road is clear
Only thing they forgot is the split tailgate
Glad you didnt shoot this video outside or Roman would be yelling at clouds
The headlights are swapable between trims BTW
YES this new Toyota is great. Like the name and also the. Hoaxes of bare bones or loaded, and it’s shape is fantastic love the boxy shape. This is going to be a home run as one person said. I love the Defender but and big BUT will it last which one will probably never have an issue , yeah the Toyota . Ta Ta motors needs to continue to get the quality up and prices down , in this day and age we shouldn’t be having electrical issue . If their suppliers can’t make a good harness then buy from the manufacture that Toyota gets it’s supplies.
No one is doubting the new power,
we are doubting is maintenance and longevity.
Tommy does a great job. Smart coherent and knowledgeable. The best on your staff.
Having a horn designed so you can 'bip' it is really nice, don't usually lay into it just need a quick sound to get someone's attention. Sounds like Roman could use this feature to just get the driver's attention then point towards the turn lane, basically asking if you could get around them. Also, multiple 'bips' are VERY good for scaring deer/animals from the shoulder of the road, where a long single honk seems to only confuse them.
I agree with the rant but also appreciate when someone notices your situation and scoots over. Give that driver a wave.
Will this car have selectable 2wd and 4wd or is it all time/auto 4wd?
Let's hope Toyota gives us the V6 Twin Turbo in the future for a possible GR version.
Going down from the V8 200-series to a four banger 250-series is to big of a downgrade for me.
My rant is people who are making a turn from a turn lane that let the car in front of them make it all the way through before they start to go.
Land Cruiser convo starts at 14:42
Thank you
I like Telsa’s green light alert! Every car should have that
I always said that the FJ Cruiser needed 4 doors and and better vision and now they have done it.
We may still get a 2 door or smaller 4 door
You are paying for the hitch, the brake control, the locking diffs, etc. so where the price point is high considering the interior materials it is offset by the extras.
I hope TFL buys a basic one
What heavy duty roof rack can be added?
Wow ….. great job !!!!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Tommy, Toyota built Gas paddle touch the floor not make the leg so tired❤❤
I wonder if the new 4Runner might be more like an FJ Cruiser with convertible bits?!
In Montréal , Québec,Canada, the only town in north america where turn right on red light in not aloud 😤
Very reliable source from Toyota NA said at the reveal that the headlights will be interchangeable. You can get the round headlights on the Land Cruiser trim. Game changer!
According to the toyota website, fuel economy will be 27 averaged.
Toyota built Gas paddle touch the floor not make the leg so tired❤❤
Tommy's theory makes sense to me.
Exactly Hybrid vehicles are ok on road but for off-road twine turbo V6 is essential
No you are wrong and outdated .
If you can't see the pavement under the tires of the car in front of you you're too close. Hell with the people behind you they can be patient like every other adult.
I was taught this so if you get rear ended you don't slide into the person in front of you. Also you can still change lanes or escape if you leave that room.
1st gen GX 470 was the Prado everywhere else. Volvo 740 Turbo eggcrate grille.
4R will have the same exact drivetrain as the Tacoma. So it will have a part-time 4WD and so it won’t have a locking center differential.
It will
So we're just going to ignore the turbo v6 that's in the gx550?
Awesome review! I love the new LC!
I love the rant. Keeping it real.
So wets my appetite for the the next Gen 4Runner which I expect to be even more ruggedly functional….
Dave Christ, VP of Toyota NA said it.
Great job interacting with the other youtubers great to see positive interactions like this. On another note, I think the squared off headlights look better🙂
I had a T100 that thing was a monster over 230,000 mi that thing was solid but I rather have a Toyota over any ford any day anytime that's just me.
Agreed
I drive toyota tacoma and ram truck s both are great had fords E vans as government vehicles never had issues with V8s
I think the new 4Runner will be a complete departure from the current style, and I include the new Land Cruiser in that mold. It may be based on the Tacoma but, it will have a shortened wheel base with removeable roof and side panels and doors.
The new 4runner will be a volume seller with the options for offroad items. A lower starting price with a wider peice band up to thr TRD pro
Where is this place? You said Salt Lake City, UT?
Yes Roman. buttons, knobs, on-off, no haptics and on and on.
I agree with the tiredness warning. My mom got a new Madza CX9 with that feature and it will beep at you when it comes on while she is just on a 30 minute highway drive, during the day, not swerving, not dosing off at all, just normal driving. It shouldn't be allowed to go off unless the lane departure warning goes off 3 times within 10 miles.
Stoked for the new Cruiser! So glad they are marketing it towards off-roaders instead of Lexus owners!
Hearing you say that tells me you haven't spent much time on mud.
@timothyriley 8995. ,you are right and i agree .
@@ISHANTth1lq- Wait.. I'll use your logic... go buy a 4Runner trd pro if you want a basic off-roader.
@@TheNormalUkrainian my logic is buy the new land cruiser and dont buy the current dinosaur 4 runner .😂
@@ISHANTth1lq- The new Land Cruiser is still at minimum 6-9 months away from hitting showroom floors. Not to mention, some may actually favor the "dinosaur" drivetrain in 4Runner for its simplicity, if nothing else.
