They’re already making Byron Leftwich the new Eric Bienemy. It sounded like he was the frontrunner until he started making demands about the GM. Not defending Baalke but if you’re a young coordinator interviewing for a HC job and say that you’re not going to try to work with the GM, it’s going to leave a bad taste in people’s mouths. If I interview for a job and the CEO asks if I can work with one of the VPs I better say yes if I want the job.

Honestly if it was any other gm, your probably right, Baalke is notoriously difficult to work with, and has a bad reputation around the league. He will throw anyone and everyone under the bus and accepts no accountability for the poor decisions he’s made as a gm. Players hate him, coaches hate him, and other executives hate him. This doesn’t damage leftwich’s credibility at all. He’s better off not taking this job and waiting for the next one.

I hear all these people saying "You hire someone who is similar to you" and every time I hear that, I think it proves the point even further. Yes, quite often employers DO hire someone similar to themselves, and quite often, their race and color are a factor, whether subconsciously or consciously, it is a factor. And that is the issue. They can't look past their color or race and hire someone that has EVERYTHING they are looking for besides the skin tone... That being said, the hiring of Doug Pederson breaks that mold as Khan and Pederson are not the same race.

You know Byron Leftwich is a SB Champ coach as well. All be it he was an assistant coordinator for the Buccaneers. But he does have a SB victory underneath his belt as well. Yes he was not the head coach but he's a super bowl championship coach as well.
With that being said I would have made this higher too. The way he won his ring is way more impressive than what Byron did. This is a great hire. I'm a black man, I would have hired this coach too if I had the opportunity.

I would disagree......all because he played QB for them doesn't automatically make him right for the HC job. Nor does the discrepancy between he and Baalke. If it were his first time,I don't think he has the power to ask for such a request.....that has to be earned. I also don't see him as HC material--you either have it or you don't. It's no shame if you don't. He is safer at the co-ordinator level.

I don't like the NFL interview rules. Why does everything have to be so public? Here is an example of why it's stupid. Say the Vikings become interested in Byron Leftwich since Jacksonville didn't fall through as expected. They cannot talk to him discreetly under NFL Rules. So, it could be an obvious issue with Kevin O'Connell if Byron or the Vikings were not interested. So, they probably wouldn't even bother making contact and there is no chance of another Black Coach getting a job. The Rooney rule is a joke as we saw this week.
