      Yeah I’m glad she put that Modern Day Version of Joseph Smith in prison. Because when I look at Warren Jeffs he’s like a Modern Day Version of Joseph Smith.

    How is this not illegal? After all this and this all is still allowed. Also, how can any state allow a 14yr to be abused and be married away - institutionally?!

      It is illegal, but the FLDS infiltrated law enforcement in the area and the age of consent in Utah is sketchy.

      There are only about 8 states in the USA that unconditionally prohibit minors from marrying. Many states allow underage marriage if the parents 'consent'. That leaves it open for the parents to 'compel' too. Bad laws!

    Addendum: your commitment to changing the area you were captive in to a place of promise and hope for the people is just....beautiful. Not every survivor can march back in and start rebuilding what their abusers tore down. ⚡

    Thank you for sharing. I grew up in the Jehovah’s Witnesses cult. I have been cut off from my parents since July who are wonderful but brainwashed. There is indeed life on the other side.

      I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the JW’s! My mother has t spoken to me in over 11 yrs due to her belief in the JW’s! It has broken my heart over and over. I cry everyday at the loss of her and my younger brother. What people don’t understand is once you become a jw you are supposed to give up your family for this new family. We even call each other brothers and sisters. They are all great until you have a question or you do something wrong then you are cut off so you are left completely alone!! I hope you are doing ok!! I feel your pain to my core!!

      Jw’s they seemed normal. They talked about god sometimes but I just ignored it and was friendly then after about four years I think they realized I didn’t care about their religion and I don’t hear from them anymore. I’m one of those people who can’t be brainwashed I never even once fell for the Covid nonsense. I didn’t even know they were considered a cult. The Covid cult was way too obvious though.

      That ain’t a cult. My aunt is a JW and she shared information with me about the religion. I’ve seen cults…and that’s not it.
      I don’t belong to any religion today, as I do t believe in religion…but I know JWs ain’t a cult. They might be very strict…but it’s not a cult. I love my aunt very much.

    I grew up in the regular LDS church. I have felt like a prisoner of my father and then husband. I'm scared all the time. I'm so inspired by your bravery. I'm so happy for you from the bottom of my heart. I'm glad things have worked out well for you. I'm happy you have a child with a man you love. God bless you.       this is not what the LDS Church teaches I never felt like a prisoner to my dad or my husband. The FLDS is very different from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

      As a member of the satanic church I have to tell you that this has nothing to do with satan. You may believe me or not but not all evil comes from satan but also from members of other religions. Imagen how many people think they are a true believer of your god and have killed people for it, punished people because they believe they are no true believers or even raped people because they think they deserve to get what they want because they are on the right path and others are not. And as far as I know Mormons have nothing to do with Satanic Cults.

      No one has to “escape” from being a Jehovah’s Witness. Unlike Scientologists and Mormons, Witnesses are free to disassociate without being shunned for that personal decision.

I never had to “escape” from any group, nor would I associate with any group that infringed on my freedom. I feel sad for anyone held emotionally or physically against their will to a fringe group or ideology that makes them literally have to escape to survive.

      @@logicrealitytruth That was not my experience with a friend who was a witness. She studied hard to become a witness, like her family. It just didn't work for her. I'll never forget being in the supermarket and running into an old classmate who happened to be her sister.( I never knew that) She ignored her sister like she wasn't even there, while greeting me with a smile and hug. It was awkward for me, and I was so hurt for my friend. So, don't tell me former Witnesses aren't shunned, unless times have changed. This was many years ago!

      @@juliacannon9682 I left for about ten years, and Witnesses were kind to me during that time, unlike my family (all Catholics) who shunned me when I became a Witness. When I chose to follow Jehovah again, I was warmly welcomed back. Even disfellowshipped ones are welcome to attend meetings at the hall; we just don’t socialize with those who choose to egregiously break Jehovah’s laws. I don’t know what transpired between your friend and her sister, but I’m sorry there was not even a greeting exchanged between them. My family does that to me because I left the Catholic Church and am now a Witness. Please don’t judge an entire group of people by one person’s perception. 💞✌🏽🥰

    You can hear the fear and anxiety in your voice. You can see the determination and resolve in your eyes and in your body language. When you were speaking of staring down that coward from the witness stand I just wanted to put you on my shoulders to show the world what a hero looks like. You had great courage, faith in the true God, love for your family and yourself despite your probably not feeling that way at the time. Thank you for helping SO many people around the world by speaking the truth.

    I had never heard the term “domestic refugee” before, but I remember being one. This is such a powerful concept, and we need to be there for others in this situation. You are so brave and intelligent! Ultimately, a true hero.

    Thank you for sharing! It was through FLDS survivors stories that I began to take a hard look at the fundamentalist cult I had grown up in (a similar cult to that of the Duggars in # Kids and Counting).     I am so impressed by the strength you were able to find at such a young age and after so much abuse. I have listened to a lot of these stories and find it appalling that one or two men can control an entire community and abuse not only the children, but the fathers and mothers who have children taken and are pushed out of the community in the name of religion. I am so glad it is becoming more widely known and the tide is turning. All of those wasted lives - it's heartbreaking.

    1.) Sounds like they lifted a lot of verbiage from the Jewish faith (gentiles, God's Chosen People, Zion)
    2.) I'm so sorry you went through this. It's my literal nightmare as a woman. The fact that this place had its own law enforcement system that protected them from legal consequences is vile. America's "religious freedom" laws are being abused every day in this way to allow cults to get away with things individuals acting alone never could. Nevada needs to change their marriage laws ASAP!

      The legal age to be able to marry in Nevada is 18. These folks are breaking the law

      I know there are still states that allow children to be married if their parents approve. No parent in their right mind would approve....but there are plenty that aren't in their right mind.

      It’s illegal to get married under 18 in all states unless you have parental permission, but they aren’t getting legally married anyway. It’s a celestial marriage type thing, where they get married in the eyes of God, but not in the eyes of the law.

      @@bexxa4837 parental permission leads to parents legally getting their kids married off in somes states. I believe 12 years old is legal. I don't know about this case but yes, it occurs legally.
